What Dr. Mertins and her staff have built at their practice is nothing short of magical. They are my absolute favorite medical place Ive been to for either myself or my kids. They listen to our concerns, are always available to talk things through, and are flexible no matter what our needs are. They truly prioritize their patients experience. My family just moved to Fayetteville and was need of a new eye doctor. This labor day I had a bad scratch on my eye which felt terrible and extremely painfull. Being a holiday, Dr. Mertin was the only doctor who returned my call out of 10 plus other doctors. My only option if she did not return my call was to go to the ER. Dr. Mertin was able to meet us at her office and immediately reduced the pain. After two more visits, my eye was back to 100%. The staff and Dr. Mertin were unreal, and my family now has a new eye doctor. I highly recommend Mertins Eye & Optical. You will not be disappointed!

Mertins is hands-down the best high-end eyewear shop in Northwest Arkansas! Having gone through a few pairs of so-called “affordable” online frames (terrible experience), I finally discovered Mertins and their extensive (yet masterfully curated) selection. I love my handcrafted German engineered Mykita frames so much that I’m thinking about buying a second pair of the same style, just in case it’s ever discontinued! But the satisfaction doesn’t stop there: Dr. Mertins is also hands-down the nicest and most thorough eye doctor I’ve ever been to. She genuinely cares about her patients’ long-term eye health, and her practice has clearly invested in all of the tools needed to ensure it. The staff is friendly, the service impeccable. Highly recommend!

Mertins’ is fantastic. The staff are always friendly. Dr. Mertins is friendly and explains everything thoroughly. I’d also like to note they also treat my daughter (9) very well. When discussing treatment, glasses, etc they speak to her as well as me and are cognizant of her feelings.

Disclaimer: 2-star rating based on office policies/practices - not on the care given (would give it 5 stars):Ive been going to Dr. Mertins for many years, ever since she moved to the Garland address exclusively. I only go once a year for a checkup and any prescription adjustment needed (I only need plain reading glasses). So, it was never anything that could get complicated or warrant the time to write a review.However, the front staff have always been extremely high-pressure sales on their [expensive] products while I wait for my appointment and afterwards. I dont mind that but what prompted me to write this review is that I missed one appointment without calling them (first and only I ever missed) and today, when I tried to schedule a new slot, I was told I could never again schedule an appointment and could only be on their wait list, i.e. if someone else cancels, they call patients in that list.I was never called to check if I was OK (something my doctor does if I miss a scheduled appointment; just in case I died) nor was I asked what had happened.

I went today for my first ever eye appointment due to having double vision. The staff was friendly, but I was told that my glasses were going to be just under $800. Not knowing how much glasses typically cost, I called my mom about the pricing and she was in shock. She immediately told me to leave and being that she has worn glasses since her 20s, I believed her and didnt purchase glasses. After inputting my subscription into multiple websites to find a pair that do what I need, Im ending today with two new pairs of glasses (with my Prism lenses) for $60 total, after shipping. Again, I think the staff is friendly, but I do think they charge a lot and had I not had my mom to tell me otherwise, I wouldve paid that much. Not saying dont go here, but do your research on pricing before choosing to buy from them or not. Im sure the quality is great, but at the end of the day, glasses shouldnt cost $800 unless they match my Louis Vuitton purse, which they didnt.

Dr. Mertins is great! She took the time to explain all of the issues with my eyes, much more in depth than previous experiences I’ve had with other optometrists. The frames sold in store are definitely pricey, but I felt that they were very transparent about the cost before I paid, so I knew what to expect. And they were very helpful in helping me find my perfect pair. I had a great experience at Mertins!

I love the office of Mertins Eye & Optical! They are professional, organized, kind, and thorough. I greatly appreciate that they are great stewards of our family budget, considering the vision needs of all six of us in a way that allows each family member to maximize their situation. I have never waited for an appointment - they operate with great regard for the clients time commitments. Yet, they dont move you through the office like a number not a person. I always have the full attention of Allyson Mertins. She asks after family members, is interested in the individual patient, and takes the time to assess exactly what I need - keeping both vision and budget issues in mind. Plus I always love visiting with Dr. Mertins and feel a better person for it each and every time. My praise is lavish but I dont levy it lightly - Mertins Eye & Optical excels in every aspect of the business.

While the glasses they offer can be pricey, I believe it really is a you get what you pay for circumstance, as they really do have an array of fantastic, top notch quality lenses to pick from. I love this place. They have the most advanced eye examination technology. The doctor did testing that I had never had at another optometrist so I really felt like I was getting specialized care. I left with contacts that fit perfectly and are a more accurate prescription than my last. Im 100% satisfied. I have been going to Dr Mertins for years and totally trust her for my vision care. She takes time to go over your results and in my case Ive had very little change in my vision over years. I love going here! Its very quiet and I always get in and out in a timely manner. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I dont ever feel rushed. Dr. Mertins always takes time to answer any questions I may have.

The people are friendly and the service is good but be prepared for extra charges that aren’t covered by insurance.For instance, when you first enter you’ll be asked to sign a form acknowledging “Today’s treatment will include” an eye scan by a fancy new machine. The scan costs $45 and isn’t covered by insurance. Later the staff will admit the scan is optional, but the form initially presents it as mandatory. It’s an old trick of high-pressure sales: present the sale as inevitable. Having said that, I opted for the scan and I’m glad I did because it showed conclusively that I don’t have a genetic eye disease that my father has. I’m not complaining about the scan itself or the price, just the way it was sold to me.Also, if you wear contact lenses they will charge a $40 “fitting fee” that isn’t covered by insurance. This fee wasnt mentioned when I asked about the cost when I first walked in.On the other hand, Dr. Mertins worked with me to make sure I got my contact lenses as quickly as possible before my insurance runs out at the end of the month.Overall, Mertins Eye & Optical is a higher-end establishment and you’ll get what you pay for.P.S. They asked me to sign a medical release form that was digitally shrunk down to the point that it was pixelated and illegible, which is shady if not illegal. They did, however, give me the original, legible form when I asked them for it.-----EDITED AFTER REPLY: Thank you for your thoughtful reply. Ill see you at the next appointment.

I had a great experience! Really thorough care. Dr. Mertins made me so comfortable to ask questions and gave great, thoughtful advice and recommendations.The one thing worth noting is that if you plan to get your eyes dilated (I have to get dilated eye exams yearly) they will give you a paper to sign for an alternate method (retinal imaging) that is more effective without dilating your eyes. They didnt tell me that it costs $45 extra when they handed me the paper so make sure you read it! (Also, the extra $45 is sooo worth it for not having to dilate your eyes and the retinal imaging only takes a few minutes.)Overall, GREAT experience!

I would not trust anyone except Dr. Mertins with my eye care. She is hands down the best and is always up to date on the top options for your eye care. She is caring and you will leave your appointment knowing for certain you received a thorough, comprehensive exam. Everyone there is like family and will always treat you with kindness and respect. When I scheduled my appointment, every question I had regarding insurance, pricing, and contact fitting was answered (I believe Emily answered all my initial questions, and Tina helped with projected prices for my contact order). This was one of the most professional and thorough eye exams I have ever had. I have worn glasses and contacts since the 80’s so I’ve been to many a vision appointment! I liked the option of having a scan done rather than the normal dilation which always caused blurred vision on the drive home. I could vividly see all parts of my eye on the screen, which is so important to me since I had to have retinal surgery last year. It was comforting to know everything was looking good. The whole staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Mertins to everyone!

Went to Mertins as a new patient and just needed a quick check-up to get a new contact prescription. Was pleased to be in-and-out in 30 minutes as I was on my lunch break from work. The full exam was quick and well-explained and will definitely be buying some new glasses from there in the future. Also, as an employee of the university, having them located on campus made it even easier for me to get in and out.

A wonderful friendly professional staff. The technician that did the initial tests was very friendly and accommodating. When I met with Dr Mertin she was equally friendly, and more importantly, knowledge. She provided me with some information about how my RA can affect eye health. Ive been treated for RA by a GP and a rheumatologist for fifteen years and neither mentioned the effect RA can have.

Nice but small place and very nice doctor. One of the best optometrist Ive seen. They have nice selections to choose from but the exam it self was very very expensive. My trip was over $500 for the entire process but I also dont have insurance. I would recommend this place if you have insurance to cover you but if not, go somewhere else.

Ive also used them since then to upgrade sunglasses. Despite walking in near closing time, their staff took the time to hand pick out their recommendations and I was in and out with a new pair of SALT glasses. A little goes a long way!

A very pleasant office visit and examination. everyone is courteous, the facility is neat and clean and all of the equipment appears to be up to date. They compare images of the back and interior of my eyes to track any changes. And last but not least their prices seem comparable for quality frames and lens.

Each step was clearly explained from the free parking to my first walk in the door, throughout each individual eye test, and the summary and overview of my tests reported by Dr. Mertins. The folks at Mertins will take good care of you. Im impressed by the technology they use - seems to be state of the art, and improved every time I go in. Plus, theyre not pushy about getting new glasses if you dont need them. They explain what theyre doing at each part of the exam, and are happy to answer questions.

I just finished my first visit to Mertins Eye & Optical and I can hands-down say that this was THE BEST experience Ive had at an eye clinic since I moved to AR in 1996! Dr. Mertin gave a thorough and informative exam - and she gave me support and solutions for an ongoing eye issue that no other optometrist has ever offered. The Mertin’s staff was also incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, patient and attentive. I left my appointment feeling happy...and hopeful about my vision for the first time in a long time. I will be referring all my friends to Mertins!

Very thorough check up. I asked Dr. Mertins several questions and she has done her best to answer them. Compare to another eye clinic I have been, Mertins eye and optical does charge you for the trial contact lenses.

I have dry eyes and she went above and beyond trying to help with ideas to help it. She even took the time to put in plugs when I wasn’t scheduled for it.
