Met a friend for coffee before visiting the Old Oakland farmers market. Adorable spot with indoor and outdoor seating. Didnt try any food this time but the coffee was excellent.

I came here with a friend this morning for breakfast thinking theyd have a full menu but they must be in some limited pandemic-induced operations mode.I ended up getting a quiche, which was actually quite good.Still, came away a tad disappointed not being able to get any of the tasty-looking dishes I was anticipating being able to order (as seen on here). Just an FYI. Including a picture of the menu.

Cute vibes. Super mellow cafe with a nice patio, good coffee, and classic cafe food.I would definitely recommend this place to hangout, do work, meet with friends, or even to get something for the road.The area directly surrounding cafe 817 is good too, so you can walk around before/after as well.

Great place to have coffee tea croissants scones basically thats all Ive ever tried for reasonable prices try it out for yourself and its a nice place to sit outside in the early morning sun take care God bless and enjoy your cafes

So tasty!! I had the polenta with blue cheddar and poached egg while my companion had the hash. We both adored our nourishment. The polenta had quite recently the correct consistency - delicate and somewhat thicker on top - and the blue cheddar and poached egg gave it a scrumptious kick of flavor. In addition, they make a bomb hot cocoa, rich, thick, and beat with a sprinkling of powdered cocoa. To finish everything off, the staff was extremely benevolent and charming, giving us a delicate prod when they were going to close. Will take more companions there ;)

Food is good, and they defiantly know how to poach an egg. The place is a bit small, but nice and clean. They also have tables outside. Overall, Ill come back!

These guys have the best espresso in Oakland.Also please to find locally roasted (just this week) mr. espresso whole beans to take home.Thanks for being there and the great service.

Have I mentioned how much I love this place? Come for the coffee, but stay for the baked goods. And the food hits the spot! Try to snag a soft outside, if you can.

The setting is nice with seating inside and outside. Theres a bit of a line that forms up to the counter where you order, but it appears that the turnover to get find a seat isnt all that bad.We had a sandwich and eggs baked in Polenta. The sandwich was simple and easy to eat. The Polenta, however, came out piping hot. They warned the dish was hot and not to touch it, but the food was much hotter than youd ever expect to be ready to eat. Youd have to let it cool down before you could even taste it. Wait much longer, if you want to eat it. It was almost as if it was microwaved, and not oven-baked.We left a tip when we ordered at the counter, but I think were expected to bus our own tables, as everyone around us was doing.

Food quality is good, but wait times for food on Sunday brunch is a little ridiculous. We waited 45 mins for two simple dishes. Hopefully less crowded during other timesUpdate (2020) - went for Saturday brunch and got my food much faster. Staff was super helpful and accommodating as well. Loved it, will return!

I think its a very good place for you to get a nice coffee and eat a delicious breakfast/brunch. The attention is excellent and also its location. The prices are a bit expensive but it is worth trying the place. They have wi-fi and if you go in less crowded hours, you can work or read a book with a lot of tranquility. I give it 4 stars for the price, not for the quality.

The avocado toast in AMAZING. Happy they have a vegan option. Also, giant lattes!

Enjoyed a healthy portion of steel cut oatmeal and fresh strawberries with a dark coffee. The vibe in here is chill. The music upbeat and volumed just right you can hear yourself think or eat or work. Friendly staff. I was the 7❤️. Did I mention how good the coffee tastes?

Good food. We had the house cured corned beef for saint patricks day and it hit the spot. Lines can get a little long and the space is a little small, but there’s some outdoor seating if the weather is nice. Really indie looking spot - expect a little hoity-artsy attitude from the staff. (Even though I’m in that demo of 20s something artist, lol). Not a bubbly friendly place, but just know what you’re getting when you want this kind of vibe. They wouldn’t let me sub out eggs for extra potatoes which was kind of a bummer and the portions weren’t as large as I was hoping for the cost. Probably won’t come back, but mostly just because I know better brunch places for my preference.

A cute cafe, with a nice atmosphere and super good toast dishes. Don’t be fooled, their toast packs a lot of flavor, one I ordered had a lot of garlic flavor and mixed with my prosciutto and egg was delicious. The staff is always prompt and nice too.

A co-worker and I stopped in for breakfast and were amazed at how much we liked this cafe. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful, ultimately suggesting Eggs Benedict as a highly requested meal. I hate the taste of eggs but eat them for the protein. Despite this hatred, this meal was delicious. The fruit was fresh and tasted great. I will absolutely visit Cafe 817 again and highly suggest it for others to try.

Good food coffee is smooth staff were a lil cold but not rude

I was invited by my best friend to this cafeteria last weekend because she is celebrating her birthday. As I got here, I saw the foods in the corner, and by looking at it, it makes my stomach rumble. So the first thing I get is their Fried Chicken, and it was so delicious! You can even taste while looking at it.

Solid caffe and coffee shop, with some delicious sandwiches. Service is solid and if you have allergies they will try to make dishes to your needs.

Awesome local cafe serving up French and Italian faves. Excellent quality foods at a great price! The building is also fully accessible, with automatic doors and nice gentle slope to the restaurant. Come during the week for chill vibes and absolutely delightful tea and coffee 😍

The food was pretty good. the hot chocolate and the coffee was amazing. the space is pretty tight so its definitely good for 2 people but if your party is larger its a little tough to find seating and eat comfortably. other than that its a nice hang out spot for coffee and conversation, with a nice atmosphere. This place has a great atmosphere with the jazz music and small Cafe feel. Moreover, the food and coffee were excellent! I had pouched eggs and Polenta with Parmesan cheese. The brown eggs were perfectly cooked with a velvety texture and the Polenta was smooth and creamy.

My go to place to meet friends when Im downtown - love the coffee drinks, and especially the whole leaf tea brewed properly in a pot. The polenta is extraordinary. Anything with a poached egg is wonderful because they have a special machine that makes them perfectly every time.

Great coffee ☕️ shop in Oakland downtown area with reasonable price. We ordered espresso latte and chai tea latte. Both were amazing. They have good food options as well but couldn’t get a chance to taste those. Definitely we will come back again when weWill be in the area.

Wonderful place! I had the pleasure and good fortune of experiencing Anne Hedleys watercolours. Marvelous paintings of flowers and was lucky enough to purchase one to hang on my wall. I will go there again.

Great casual place for a decadent breakfast if you get there before 11:30. Food was off the chain.... Highly recommended.

Reliably good breakfast with a solid and creative if small menu and good coffee drinks. The space is a bit small and cramped but it has a nice vibe. On warm days, its nice to sit at one of the outdoor tables.

I went there this morning with my daughter for breakfast. She knew about it as she is young and hip and well whatever. Definitely a place for young hip people. An old man like me is not warmly received but then that is the world we are living in. I actually heard a 30 something guy say yeah Tahoe is cool if you like old people. I though wow I pity his parents. Anyway back to cafe 318. Food was okay but not spectacular. The cappuccino was cool when it arrived. The service at the counter seemed warm and friendly for people before me and after me but when I ordered I might as well have been in a walk in freezer. My daughter says not to take it so personally so I will let you decide for yourself.

We had brunch here and it was great. We had chorizo toast and avocado toast. The food was delicious and affordable. The service was great and fast. Definitely coming back.

Very nice and comfortable place with outside seating for you to enjoy a nice breakfast any day of the week. Their poached eggs are delicious and their home-made jam is a must, you probably will want to buy one to bring home. Their service is efficient and friendly staff. Definitely coming back.

We’ve been going here for years. Though the owners have changed, the menu and the coffee have maintained consistency. In fact, the polenta and egg has never been better. Love the mixed clientele - from retired police detectives to hipster makers to middle aged couples.

Excellent coffee! Amazing breakfast. Their cornbeef hash is unbelievably good- be careful the food and plate are piping hot! Like it will burn you if you touch the plate but man o man it is sooo good. Im looking forward to trying other dishes. It is a perfect spot because it doesnt get super busy. It can be a bit ackward because you order first and then sit but honestly who cares. The food is high quality. A bit on the expensive side but it is so worth it. Their portions are perfect size. The staff is friendly. The place is always clean. It is small but on a sunny day you can sit outside and it is beautiful. Their lattes are good and strong. This is a little hidden gem. They do ask that to pay with card, your purchase must be over $5.00, FYI.

This place was amazing. Quietly tucked in the heart of Oakland this place made me a wonderful creation for breakfast heres the picture and it tasted delightful.

Pretty cute café with lots of options. They have a grilled ham, gruyere, and marinated artichokes panini that is amazing. I also had one of the best cheesecake of my life. It was just phenomenal. The home made Italian soda was good, I had the Hibiscus flavor one. I am not a lover of sodas, but that was pretty good as well.

We went to this restaurant twice and the food is awesome!!! I had the eggs Benedict and a chorizo dish. My eggs Benedict had real delicious slices of ham. The staff was very friendly, loved their food!!!

Great little cafe, artsy ambiance, small but delicious menu. This cafe features ordering at counter with a great staff bringing you your selection. The building and surrounding neighbor- hood are part of the oldest section of the downtown shopping district. I had the OLIVETA it was delicious.

Great little cafe! Sat here and watched a half marathon run by the open doorway. Seating is limited and we sat back to back with the table next to us, but the food was above par and the staff was quick and friendly.

3/27/16We met a friend here after the recent Oakland Running Festival, which started and ended in Snow Park. My husband had driven me to Oakland that morning for the run, so he was excited to get breakfast too.I ordered the olive and egg and toast breakfast. Egg was cooked perfectly. Toast was crunchy and delicious. Loved my olives, and also the chunky fruit jam served with the toast. The house hot coffee was great, service was friendly, and they even had a house hot sauce that I very much enjoyed.Everything about this café was warm and inviting - its a lucky neighborhood that gets a place like this nearby!

One of the best spots to have a light breakfast, a coffee and do some reading. They do perfect poached eggs (unless you like poached eggs to be rock hard and tasteless, in that case these aren’t for you).

Amazing!! I was in town for a short time and needed a yummy breakfast before a pretty full day. I got the yogurt with granola, honey, and fruit. The yogurt came with pomegranate, oranges, and pears, which hasn’t been my typical yogurt bowl experience, but it was so delicious. The homemade granola was fantastic. I loved this place so much that I had to come back later in the afternoon and get one of the chocolate chip cookies from the counter and a chai with almond milk (also SO good) and in such a cute Old Oakland location!

Went here for brunch. The staff was courteous and quick, but I just couldnt get behind paying $10 for a burnt piece of toast with a thin piece (one piece) of prosciutto and a poached egg on top. I know rent has got to be obscene and hopefully they pay their employees a living wage, but paying that much hurt a little. If Id been a little less hungry, Id have left. Also, the lighting is pretty bad for reading. There are quite a few burnt out bulbs.

The weekday and weekend menus are different! I love small businesses. Food is good although I thought the poached egg was a little overcooked. Their latte is served in a huge bowl. Most people seem have gotten the cappuccino which is served in a regular cup.

The hot coco is the best. The croque-monsieur I was not too happy with. I wish it had a little more ham for the price I felt like I was just eating a fig Jam sandwich for 13 bucks that was a ripped.

Ive been coming here for the last 3 years as my go to brunch spot, and I always bring guests who are visiting in town. The food is always great but lately staff has been a bit on the angry side. If I ask for an extra utensils or honey for my tea Ive gotten eyerolls. Im sorry?

Wow, what a great cafe! The menu is exactly everything that I like....polenta, eggs, croque monsieur, homemade chai, toast, etc. The ambiance is relaxed and the chairs are beautiful. If Im going to Old Oakland and need cafe time, this is the place to be!

I used to come to this place when i lived in oakland and i am happy that this place is better than ever. The wine, coffee, foods and the atmosphere is a wonderful mix to enjoy by yourself or with friends
