Nothing too crazy going on here. Just a good ol Asian cafe/restaurant with a nice vibe. Drinks are hit or miss and food is good but not mind blowing. Will try to come again and see how their desserts are.

They secretly charge you 15% service fee on the bill without notifying you and ask you for another 15% -30% tip on the receipt that you will sign. If you dont pay attention like I did, you might overpay your dinner. Last time I ordered $55 food but ended up paying $75 in total.This is not acceptable considering the restaurant does not offer you any fine dining experience.

I made a simple order to go at 9:06pm. However, I was waiting inside for almost 30 minutes. When I checked up the status of my order, the cashier grabbed the bag and placed it on the counter. It was ready all this time and she never announced it once...even when she made eye contact with me. She brushed me off when I confronted her about it. Worst customer service ever.

Mediocre food for the price point. Portion size was not very large and the tea was bland. Not the best Oakland could offer.

Use to come here all the time a few years back. But now the price has gone up so much and the quality of the food is just not there anymore. It is edible, and dont make fun of that statement because a lots and lots of restaurant cafe around there is just garbage. So if you want some decent food late at night this might be a good choice.

I love this place. The food is super delicious and not too pricey. The only problem is that theyre always busy and maybe a bit understaffed but if you go knowing this beforehand and are patient i feel its worth the wait 😊

Always a good time with great food. I love their astrology drinks. I never get my own so I can taste what other people are like.My favorite is the baked pork chop over spaghetti. Really good chef cooked food. Nothing tastes microwaved. Which is great considering how many people they served.

Im not sure what this place is really trying to accomplish. I think it might be something Im just not familiar with. I had some disappointing food but other people had food that looked good so maybe I just didnt order well.I think you go here because its open, and because you are hungry, but maybe not so much because its gormet. If the owner gives me a recommendation Ill try again

The service was reasonable. We didnt have to wait too long considering about 80% of the tables were full during the lunch hour. The price is average, leaning a bit on the high side.Presentation is pretty nice. Although we ordered pineapple fried rice and they said they ran out of pineapple rinds so they had to put it on a plate.Their beef/egg noodle was ok, but we got mostly cartilage and noodles, and not much meat.

Absolutely loved this restaurant! The menu selections seemed endless! Great milk tea! The atmosphere was peaceful and I really enjoyed looking around at the pretty LED lights. I cant wait to come back.

Came for breakfast with a group of 5, the food was pretty good but not amazing, with some Chinese breakfast classics like onion pancake (葱油饼) and you tiao (油条). We picked it because it was one of the few places open in the area as early as we were looking (9 am on a Monday), and theyre open pretty late into the night too. Wish we could have tried the dessert!

Very cute inside! Just got an Egg Puff dessert (super tasty) and a Hong Kong Milk Tea (which was exceptionally strong).

The food was delicious. Very accommodating with my food allergy. Cant wait to try something else next time.

Nice restaurant. The food was pretty good. I got baked pork chop rice with grass jelly milk tea and Mongolian beef spaghetti with milk tea. The milk tea was so strong I couldn’t sleep that night. I stayed up till 5am. The grass jelly isn’t the type of soft jelly you would get at typical boba shops. It’s harder but chewable. I also got the peanut butter waffle. It was sweet. A lot of condensed milk.

Avocado milkshake was more milk and cream than avocado. The broccoli baked rice was ok, but not great.

First time here. Place was very busy with a great crowd. Menu had a huge selection with plenty of pictures, which I really enjoy especially if I go to a restaurant I’ve never been to nor know what the dishes are. The steak was cooked medium rare and was delicious. Portions are generous.

Good Chinese/Cantonese food options

Ordered the pineapple fried rice and got a dish that looked nothing like the menu. When the waiter was confronted about this to make sure they delivered the right dish, the waiter just mumbled that thats the dish. The taste was meh and the slivers of canned pineapple pieces made it even more unimpressive. Not coming back for more...

Open late and great food. Sucks that its usually so busy because of that. I have had issues with some rude staff, but they have had some staff that I interacted with that were awesome. The wait is definitely worth it if youre looking for good food late at night.

Try it at your own risk. Passed by the Cafe late night seen huge rats going in and out of the place.

Waffle was awful ... tasted burnt. There are lots of choices of food but its really hit or miss. Congee was good.

The food here has been better. But if your looking for great late night sweets thia is your spot. The such a wide range of of things to choose from. Definitely get the egg puffs. All and all good spot for late night eats if you in the oakland area.

I like the food here so I have come here few times. I ordered few entrees to go today, but they wouldnt allow me to use bathroom. They were giving me some funny excuse for only allowing dine in customers to use bathroom. They told me to go to a shopping mall for bathroom. I went all the way there just to find that the bathrooms needs access cards to enter...Update: reduced stars down to one star... I waited outside where I am visible by cashier, however the lady didnt call for me even though food was ready. Really disappointing experience. I need to find another Chinese restaurant in Oakland now.

We stopped by here for some late night Chinese food after driving up all night from SoCal to the Bay Area! It was one of the top spots recommended, and we weren’t disappointed!Arrived just before midnight, and it was surprisingly still pretty crowded inside. The street outside was very empty, and it was probably the only place on the block that was still open at the time.We ordered some of the colorful tea drinks, as well as chow mein and fried rice. The prices were reasonable, and the service was very speedy! They had the food out to us in no time! Which is good, because we were very tired and ready to get to my family’s home for the night!The teas were incredible! One of them was a sparkling, carbonated type of drink that was purple and red. Both visually pleasing and very delicious to drink! The other drink was a mango slush, and I really enjoyed it as well. The food itself was delicious, no complaints to be made. Large portions that we couldn’t even finish and so had for lunch the next day as well. I was very impressed with the quality and taste.A great spot in the Oakland area that we just happened upon while traveling up to the area, but I’m glad that we found it, and we’ll definitely be back the next time we are up in the Bay Area!

The great place to get Chinese food they have an incredibly large menu. There are even some home-cooked style Foods, like pork chops. It is very festive inside . Its not very big on the inside. So if you go during the busy time, you may have to wait. The food is good. Once you figure out what to order from the menu. I went during Chinese New Year. And they have lots of decorations for the new year and giving away candies in golden coin wrappers. Parking is terrible. So you either have to walk or take Lyft

But need combos kind of pricey if you want multiple items

Great service nice food.

Depending on what you order, the food varies. Its quite Americanized but still an acceptable Hong Kong styled eatery. They have great lunch/dinner combos and desserts, like macaron ice cream sandwiches. The coconut ube was ok although it wouldve benefited from a stronger ube flavor.

Love this place for late night munchies with my bestie! They have a big menu ranging from American snacks like wings and fries to more Asian like fried rice and salt and pepper pork. They have delicious drinks and desserts too, so whatever youre craving, they will likely have it.

Prawn fried rice was outstanding. Their pot stickers were nice and crispy. I love their lemon iced tea -- super refreshing. Overall, always a good experience when I stop by late night.

Food is great, but service is really fake!I ordered a lunch combo, it comes with a drink. The person didn’t ask for what I wanted to drink and just gave me the food without the drink because I didn’t ask for it.Second time, I ordered the same thing. I purposely didn’t ask for a drink to see if they would ask. They did not! So when my food came out, I asked for my drink, and they gave me an iced drink and charged me extra. Again, they assumed it was iced just to charge me more.I stopped going for 6 months. I came back today, and it’s the same thing. This store takes advantage of their customers. Not so great.

Quite tasty! I always get their Portuguese baked chicken over rice, and it was really creamy and flavorful. It could have used more vegetables and more chicken for the amount of sauce served, but the amount of food was quite satisfactory. I tried my friends mango sago dessert drink, and it was pretty tasty as well (though pricey). Their egg puffs are also pretty good (although again expensive)! The ambiance is nice, lots of seating but fills up during peak hours. Service is pretty non-existent and its actually quite difficult to flag down a waiter/waitress. Ill be back to try their other dishes! Super extensive menu, and good price for the amount of food.

Its our new discovery. We went back more than three times in two weeks. Food is amazing as well as dessert. The person who helped us was amazingly nice, had a smile on his face at all times, took the time to explain dishes to us and was super patient. We will always go back.

Love the beef curry and the baked spaghetti! Parking is hard since this is in Oakland Chinatown but there is a parking lot across the street from it.The wait to be seated wasnt too long and neither was the wait for the food.Nice & busy restaurant with quick service!Will definitely return!

The service and food can improve. I recall an incident when a server gave me attitude because I took a while to figure out what to order.

Super extremely slow service. I went into the restaurant and ordered to go. After I paid, I stand there and waited for like 20 minutes. I only ordered one item!!! Horrible! I will never come to this place again. I was so amazed that I been standing there for so long but none of the staff follow up my order or even talk to me.

I have been there 4Xs now, and they ALWAYS have a line. I would say the line moves pretty quickly and the time they take to bring out your food is relatively quick. The food is amazing, a bit pricey but the food is pretty good. I really enjoy the food there and there are so many options to choose from. This includes drinks and desserts!! There is parking on the street, but theres also garage parking right across the street. Very convenient. I would not recommend sitting on the tables that are near the register at night or during cold times, because the door is always opening and closing and the cold wind gets right in there. Other customers do not properly close the door sometimes as well.

I ordered Singaporean noodles and wonton noodle soup to go.. was told the order will take 15 to 20 min.. 45 min later!! The order is still not ready. They told me soon.. never coming here again!!!!!!

Its made for Asian crowd especially at night. They close at 0130am. Food is good, atmosphere is decent. They even have another room for parties.

This place is one of favorite places to go because of the variety of deserts they have. The food there is more like snacks. Service there could be better. Overall prices is decent. If your like me and my girlfriend, and love to take pics of food! Shooting star is the place for you.

Their breakfast has very good congee and stir fried noodles, they come in a good portion and easily can feed 2 persons. Their breakfast menu is very reasonable and each meal comes with coffee or tea for free. Usually during lunch time the place can be very crowded.

Love this place. Was packed at 11:30 on a Thurs night. Lots of Asians. Which is always a good sign of a great restaurant.

Delightful and always surprising menu. Food is always fresh and marvelous. The fruit drinks and jelly drinks are very very tasty. Service staff really knows how to listen. Fun atmosphere and decor

Terrific value on $1.99 bubble-like drinks. The avocado shake is my favorite. Although being in Chinatown, its not the place to go for Chinese food. Their strong suit is western-type meals. They do have $6 meal specials. Most interesting decor. Popular Asian youth hangout in the evenings. Service is so-so to less than so-so, which is typical Chinese restaurant level of service.

This place is pretty open to non-traditional Asians, meaning the staff speaks English well and all the food should accommodate to palates of different cultures. Shooting Star is popular among 20 to 30 somethings and for good reason. Solid Hong Kong style food which is a Cantonese interpretation of Western food or just Cantonese food. Wester food like sandwiches are a miss but meat over baked rice or spaghetti is a hit. Given the variety of really good for you greens, tofu, noodles, drinks and crepes, you cant go wrong. Service is better than in the past. No frills. Great late night food that is prepared with the care of a well crafted Cantonese restaurant .

Ordered baked chicken over rice with black pepper sauce. It was horrible. The black pepper sauce tasted like soy sauce and it was not on top of the plate but at the bottom. The rice plate was topped with cheese, which I have never seen for this dish in other cafes...There was even a $1 surcharge for changing it to black pepper sauce without notifying me beforehand.
