I’ve been going to Sight Improvement Center for about 40 years and has been receiving EXCELLENT care ever since. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND Sight Improvement Center for all your eye care needs. Dr. Charles Hollander has been my doctor and has always answered my question about my eye concerns. Dr. Hollander and his staff exemplifies caring and compassionate care to all.

Dr. Hollander is a 4 star - he is efficient and nice. Not the most thorough eye doctor I’ve seen but does the job quickly when you need a routine eye exam. However, the lady at the front desk is rude and unprofessional. Her attitude is really bad and condescending. She got my insurance coverage wrong and argued with me for 30 mins over it with a bad temper. I had to call my insurance on the spot to confirm my coverage and also the Dr. chimed in when he walked by. They also charge extra (not covered by insurance) for your contact lens exam without asking you for consent. The matter was resolved but the experience was unpleasant.

This is probably the best office in New York City for a thorough eye exam and whatever glasses one might need. The selection of glasses is awesome and care is taken with the choice that one makes that they will be very happy with and will be well served as regards their vision needs. The glasses are of best long lasting quality. A persons eyes will thank them for choosing the Sight Improvement Center. There is no better choice.

I’m a MD, Hollander totally missed that an early cataract was responsible for his inability to correct the vision in my right eye. He did lots of tests but missed a simple diagnosis. I went to NYU vision center and they saw their suboptimal tests but diagnosed a early cataract. Problem solved. I don’t recommend this practice.

I have to note that Dr. Hollander was extremely patient and took time to thoroughly examine and explain various aspects of how my eyes function as well as visual accommodations needed to support my daily life. Over the years, this level of patient attentiveness has been lacking across the health profession as care became more about cost/money and less inclusive of that much need personal bed side (for lack of a better term) approach. It was inspiring as well as heart warming to be the recipient of such care that Dr. Hollander showed me. While there was a little wait to see him, it was well worth it. From the reception team to Dr. Hollander as well as the eyewear techs everyone was so nice and courteous. Very positive experience with Dr. Hollander and his team. Dr. Hollander is an excellent listener and along with the results of your exam, he cares about how your eyes actually feel to YOU by asking about your concerns (if any). My tests were quite thorough and carried out in a very relaxed environment. The office doesn’t have a cold “medical” feel to it. Will definitely return.

The first doctors visit was fine. Then after that they are too busy to talk to you. Dr became very impatient and short with me. She snapped at me over the phone when trying to explain how my contact lenses fit. They dont have an organized system and they cant tell the difference between two prescriptions. I decided not to go there anymore.

I was extremely satisfied with my most recent eye exam on Thursday 5/28/2020 amid the COVID19 epidemic. The Sight Improvement Center team has taken numerous safety precautions including floor markings to maintain social distance, room between seats in the waiting area, all staff wearing face masks at all times, available hand sanitizer, etc.Prior to my appointment, Dr. Hollander informed me he would be taking a few minutes to disinfect his patient areas from his previous appointment. This was reassuring.During the exam, I was impressed by the plexiglass barrier installed on the vision test machine to minimize any potential contact. Dr. Hollander explained that physical contact with office equipment would be minimal.While we live in uncertain times, I was pleased that Sight Improvement Center is doing their best to make patients feel safe and still provide the quality optical services which they give so well.

It may be a little bit of a wait (like 15-20 minutes after the appointment)... it is in Manhattan after all, and when you have the best doctor around, you expect everyone lining up. The DR is very well qualified, extremely patient and takes good care of his clients. You have to remember, that if you are seen straight away, it means 1) the doctor is not busy or 2) the doctor is treating patients like cattle pushing them out the door. The queue works as expected, no one is getting priority over the other and everyone is treated equitably and fairly. The equipment they have is modern, the place is tidy and there are processes in place to increase the efficiency of the environment giving a good indication of the maturity model and experience of the person running the show. Very impressed!

When I was searching for a new eye doctor, a neighbor recommended the Sight Improvement Center. I had my first appointment with Dr. Charles Hollander on 2/7/19. Dr. Hollander is friendly, thorough and I immediately felt at ease. He addressed all my issues and answered all my questions. I had LASIK in 2005 and shared with him that I was disappointed I now needed to use glasses for distance - at a concert, at the theater etc. Because I started a new job, I realized I should probably use them during meetings and events. When I asked Dr. Hollander for his opinion he gave me a fantastic solution. Because I do not need reading glasses he suggested using one contact lens on those special occasions at work. One eye would handle the reading and the eye with the lens would correct the distance issue. He placed a contact in my eye to demonstrate and I was amazed that it worked! I am thrilled to have a better option that had not been offered by my former doctor which has also improved my quality of life. I definitely recommend Dr. Hollander and all of the staff at the Sight Improvement Center.

The staff (the technician and doctor) who did the eye exam were friendly, prompt, and competent. The problem is both (not one, but both) of them werent the most honest with the services they provided so beware: make sure you ask if every single service youre receiving is covered by insurance because they will NOT tell you.The technician didnt allow me to opt out of this extra service (retinal imaging), thus I was charged for an unnecessary service. Typically optometrists dilate your eyes for free for the same result, but instead she just went ahead with the service without my permission. The ironic thing is it was the receptionist who told me I could have had my eyes dilated for free instead of paying for the retinal imagining, but she only told me this afterwards. After reviewing other reviews, it looks like its very common for this office to not tell the patient that its not covered by insurance and you have to pay out of pocket.The eye doctor Dr. Thomas charged me for a contact lens fitting, despite how we discussed that wed continue the same contact lenses Ive been using for years. Literally, she pulled out the same brand and didnt bother to try other brands. A trustworthy doctor whos there for your best interest would have waived this step, but she knew she could get away with it.Unfortunately I found this all out afterwards when I was settling up the invoice. When I expressed my surprise about the additional charges (I only went in for an eye exam and an order of contact lens), the receptionist with the bob haircut was very rude and cold. She said I wasnt there in the room when you got those services, so how could I tell you that they would cost extra? It was condescending, especially when I wasnt being aggressive, I was just genuinely confused why I had to pay an extra $90+ when Im used to paying just the copay. That was just icing on the cake.It ruined the initial positive experience I had with this office. Itll be hard for me to come back to this office when I cant even trust them or get fair treatment.

Just a really positive experience. The doctor was much more friendly and informative than any eye doctor I have ever seen. Picking out my new frames was also a great experience because the saleswomen gave great advice on what frames would look best with my face shape, etc. I was indecisive so they helped me a lot, and I had the feeling if I had been more sure of what I wanted then they would have known how to handle that too. Just a great place to get this taken care of. Very convenient to Grand Central too.

All of my experiences at Sight improvement Center have been positive. I have been coming there since the late 1970s. The ladies at the front desk are efficient and courteous, Dr. Thomas is professional and knowledgeable and Diane is a delight and takes her time to help one pick out frames, etc. Sherri is great, too. It is rare in this hurried lifestyle to receive such good service. Those with negative reviews, well, the glass must always be half empty.

The on sight optical is also very convenient and have provided me excellent service. I have referred my family and friends and will continue to do so.

Recently, I had the pleasure of being treated by Dr. Hollander at his wonderful midtown office. His team is incredibly lovely and courteous, and made the visit a truly seamless experience. During my consultation, Dr. Hollander recommenced I try the recently released Acuvue Oasys Transition contacts, and was kind enough to provide me samples. Needless to say, they’re probably the most comfortable contacts I’ve ever owned. I love how they adjust to sunlight. Thankful to have such a wonderful doctor keep my best interest top of mind!

I only take the time to leave a negative review when I feel something needs deep correction. This is one of those cases. Here are a few of my thoughts:1. The first question I was asked by the Doctor was affectively do you have money to pay for todays appointment?. She provided no explanation, just wanted to know if I had sufficient funds. I have never been asked this by a Medical Professional before. It felt like my skin color or my down dress made her question my ability to be a responsible adult. And she could not have been more incorrect.2. This was the least consultative medical experience I have had in recent memory. You let me, the client, make all the decisions with no guidance. You let me chose the most difficult-to-place contact lenses without telling me until we poked around in my eye for 30+ minutes. The worst form of customer service.3. In the end of a failed appointment, the Doctor showed money is more important to her than people. You were satisfied to collect my change for the Contacts training without actually helping me. You were intent on selling me something without earning my respect or trust. You even had an awkward interaction with your own employee at the front desk; speaking over her with domineering tone.No relationship is irreconcilable, however, this is an office I will likely never visit again.

We met when he made time in his busy schedule for me (as a brand new patient) when my parrot scratched my eye with his beak. Dr. Hollander had me pain free and fixed up in no time.If you’re new in town or just looking for a new eye doctor, you can’t go wrong with Dr. Hollander.

Excellent doctors -- 30+ years of wearing glasses & contacts, and these are the best Ive had the pleasure to see. Also a great place for buying your contacts (they are less inclined to ripping you off). The selection of frames is reasonably broad, but I have had success only about half the time in finding one of their selection that fit my face.

Eye doctors, I have seen many (Orléans, Paris (France where I’m from) Highland Park IL, New York. I have a number of serious conditions. A Keratoconus, staphyloma, PVD... had Cornea transplants in Chicago, cataracts, second cataracts, Yag Laser treatment, Glaucoma suspect treatment, Retina laser stitching back home. Typically machines I put my eyes in front for an exam, display messages like UNKNOWN ERROR !!! OUT OF RANGE!!! UNEXPECTED VALUES... etc...As a result, I developed unique ability in spotting a good doctor when I see one. Doctor Hollander made me feel so comfortable that I was able to trust him with my case immediately.At my first visit, I was very impressed. In minutes he digested my history, made some measurements and when I left his office, I felt like if he knew me and my condition since many years. Amazing ! No non sense questions, right to the point. Received my special contact lens the same week.And when my son started having vision issues, I brought him in, and he was just amazed to have a contemporaneous conversation on best practices in managing his exposure to monitors and vision fatigue. Bravo Docteur ! And thank you so much !

All the eye doctors at this practice are amazing! I get an exam here every year and the experience is always top notch. All of the staff is friendly yet thoroughly professional. Almost no wait time and excellent service. The doctors speak to you as an equal and explain everything. They all really love their work. So happy I found them!

Yes indeed...Old fashioned style and respectable caring, with the height of expert professional medical visual care. I had a little injury and infection, and previously a regular checkup with new prescription, well discussed with Doc Hollander,...but my friend has an historically complex condition--after years of suffering and floundering, (legally blind), Dr. Hollander was referred by renowned doctors at Weill Cornell Ophthalmology,.. and gave comfort, sight, and function to my friend--who is an artist. I know the difference and remain impressed and grateful.Thankfully I am now in great hands too.

He did not rush like other doctors. He took his time and care for my visit. As a longtime patient, I can confidently say that Dr. Hollander is an exceptional eye doctor, and a great person as well. I have wholeheartedly recommended his practice to friends & family over the years.

Hands down the best eye doctor Ive even been to. Ive been twice now and Dr. Jurman is awesome. Very knowledgeable and friendly. The optical staff is great as well. Very friendly in helping you find a frame that you like but also fits well. I especially like the personal attention through this proces. They dont just dump you in the store with everyone else but sign you in with someone from the optical staff. Just the right amount of personal attention and assistance without making you feel pressured to buy something.Only downside is frames and lenses tend to be on the expensive side (even the cheaper ones). If you dont have good insurance it could get pricey.

Dr Jurman saw me right away and was very thorough. They have a nice selection of frames, but it took awhile to get a chair to try them. Once I was in, the staff was very helpful in selecting. I dont have my Rx filled just yet, but I liked the convenience (just around the corner from my office) and they made the insurance process painless.

Every time I have an appointment I come at least 15 minutes early. But I am always seen more than 20 minutes after my appointment. The last two times while Im with the Dr. We were interrupted. The first time by the company installing the floor. The Dr. took time giving the installers directions and discussing floor issues with the front desk. My 15 minute review with the dr. had me in the office for almost 1 1/2 hours. My recent visit was the same long wait to see the Dr. But now they have someone who does all the testing and then send you again to wait to see the Dr. adding more waiting time to see the Dr. When I finally got to see the Dr. he did the standard read the eye chart and then a call came in. He stopped working with me to answer the phone and to have a full discussion with them. When he finished the call he wrapped up my visit with him within 5minutes. I now go back to the waiting room and sign in to order glasses and wait to be called. After waiting another 15 minutes and no one has come to get me - I realized I was getting so angry reviewing what had happened over the last hour - I took my name off the list and went to work. They have very little respect for you or your time or they are unconscious of how they are wasting your time. If you have 1 - 2 hours to waste this is the place for you.

Ive been a patient of Dr. Jurmans for nine years, and I would never want to see anyone else. She is incredibly nice and very skilled; she caught a rare optic nerve problem and got me help for it immediately. If I could give more than five stars, I would.

Dr. Hollander has been my eye care doctor for over 20 years. He was the first (and only) doctor who prescribed mono-vision (one contact lens for reading) for me, and I have been enjoying it without any problems since I started wearing contact lenses. Not only is he a highly competent eye doctor, but his demeanor is very pleasant, attentive and never rushed.

The eye doctor was nice but she performed additional tests that were not covered by my insurance and I had to pay extra. She did not tell me ahead of time. They do a retina screening that you have to pay out of pocket for. First time I ever had to do this. Beware!

Omg. Dr Hollander is the absolute best” My eye care provider is better than your eye care provider”. Lol just teasing everyone if course. But seriously the staff here at the office are absolutely amazing. I refuse to “see” any other eye care specialist but Dr Hollander. Hands down the best in the tristate area. He takes his time with his patients myself included and any questions you might have he would answer then throughly so that you can fully comprehend what’s going on. When it comes to cost the man is so unbelievably reasonable it’s like at the end you just want to give him all your money. But serious if you are thinking about switching from your eye care provider or are in the market for a new eye care provider on a whole I highly endorse and recommend the services of Dr Hollander and his amazing team of dedicated and professional workers.

Dr. Hollander fitted me with a new type of contact lense for people with keratoconus. His lab did excellent job the first time and the contact works perfectly!

If you like long waits and a rude staff, but a good doctor this is the place for you. Ive never waited less than 30 minutes for an appointment or had to call fewer than 4 times to refill a contact lens prescription. But, Dr. Hollander is very good. Ive put it up with the horrible staff for far too long and am moving on.

Dr Jurman is the best! There was a little wait but the experience made up for that. I have gone elsewhere to have my eye exam done, but those places cannot be compared to the service and care you receive at Sight Improvement Center- Excellent service, and superb care!

The doctors and staff are always professional and friendly. The Optical staff is above par and patient, especially when they have a client that is indecisive about the frames they want (my husband). Ive been bringing my family here for years and its the only place to go for a great exam and spectacles.

Doctor Thomas is so warm and friendly. She went above and beyond in explaining each step of the appointment to me: why we needed each step, what my insurance covered, etc. Very pleasant experience!

Been going to them for over a decade and love Dr. Hollander - hes the best. My only complaint is the office tends not to run terribly timely, so make sure when you have your appointment you have time to run late...

The doctor was great. But 10 business days to make the glasses is totally unacceptable.
