Started off a little skeptical dealing with a dealership. Upon arriving to McGrath Volkswagen of Dubuque I realized it could be a positive experience. Ernie and Trevor quickly erased any doubts that I had. Every promise that was made was fulfilled upon my second arrival. My entire goal was to not just get a vehicle, but something I wanted and that goal was achieved with the help of Ernie and Trevor. I’m riding in a reliable vehicle now and can make it to work everyday. I give this dealership a 5 star rating and would give 10 if I could, if you’re looking for a vehicle this place is a must. I will be returning within the next 6-12 months with no doubt in my mind I can achieve my next automobile goal with them!

In these times of social media and only posting BAD things and experiences I felt it was necessary to share a bad experience turned good. Im not going to get into the bad, but I will tell you General Sales Manager DEVIN WRIGHT did the right thing and acted with grace and understanding. Being a business owner for over 30 years I know how hard it is to micro-manage all of your staff and expecting everyone to have the same values and listening skills that you have. I also know that going back to a business and screaming and yelling at someone that has no idea will get you no where! Alfred and Ellen, who he was training at the time, were awesome! Alfred was great at identifying what I was looking for even without me explicitly saying (or really even knowing) what I wanted. I also lived 50 minutes away from the dealership, and they both were very accommodating in making that work.I worked with Kevin on the financing, and he was extremely nice and helpful in getting me to a price point I was comfortable with.The reason Im not giving 5 stars is as this was my first car purchase, there were a few things that I think that could have been better explained/more transparent (ie no word about registering the car, no contact information for my lender [both organized by McGrath], and a disconnect between sales and finance on the pricing). Additionally, there was a sensor issue within the first 6 hours of it being off the lot, which they were able to take care of and set me up in a loaner for 24 hours. Even so, I left in a car I love and didnt feel ripped off.

I posted this on their Facebook page but I wanted to make sure it was shared here too. I am so grateful to these wonderful people for getting us through such a rough time. I havent had a reliable car in years and to FINALLY be able to feel comfortable in a vehicle is amazing. Lisa went above and beyond to make sure we were able to get what we wanted, a fantastic deal and an amazing SUV that I keep driving around in cause I love it so much! Every single person was fantastic throughout the whole experience and Im so happy Ive finally found a dealership that didnt look at me and just see dollar signs. Buying cars isnt always a smooth experience. If you know what you are looking for, thats great. But for me, I was looking to make most out of what my budget. I stopped at a few dealerships in Dubuque to see whats available and I must admit I dont always feel comfortable. Yet, I had the best experience at McGrath Hyundai/Volkswagen. Brett Davidson was the person who was working with me, and the entire time, they were very professional, polite, and accommodating. They answered all the questions I had and had booklets ready on hand to give me the specification of the cars I was looking for. It was completely different from what I had previously experienced at other dealerships here in Dubuque. I did not end up getting a car at McGrath since a relative gave me an incredible offer, but I would definitely recommend McGrath. The price was also very reasonable, and the dealership was very willing to work with me. Yes, every business wants to make a profit. But I felt like the staff at McGrath went above and beyond. You can definitely tell that they enjoy doing what they are doing and that is something I can appreciate. Thank you for the experience.

Absolutely terrible experience. Drove 2 hours down to Dubuque to test drive a CRV. When we got there the battery was dead, and every light on the dash was lit up (after being promised this car was in perfect shape). The sales rep promised us a new battery and to take care of everything before we left the lot. Well we bought the vehicle. As we sign all the paper , work the car was suppose to be getting all issues fixed. When we got out from signing the paperwork (2 hours later) they let us know that none of the repairs were completed. ZERO, SO WE PAID 25K FOR A CAR THAT DIDNT EVEN START. Have called them several times to see how they are going to compensate us for having to go an entire week with a new vehicle sitting dormant in our driveway that we just paid 25K for. No call back. Stay as far away from this place as possible.

Sue and I enjoyed our shopping and buying experience at McGrath Volkswagen in Dubuque. We especially enjoyed working with Alfred McGheein getting a deal we could live with. Although he was fairly new to McGrath, he still seemed very knowledgeable where the vehicles are concerned. Talking to him was like talking to a lifelong friend. Good service in the past. Chaotic waste of time recently. Their shuttle service was terrible then it took 1 and 1/2 hours to change my oil, air filter and do a brake flush and fill. Now I gotta go back because they didnt finish.

I bought a new VW in 2018 and have had four oil changes. Each time, something is not done. This last time they put the wrong oil in and broke the engine cover. When I contacted, the first response was the paperwork must be wrong, when confronted, they said the oil weight was new, then that it is the mechanics choice of oil weight to use. All are questionable responses.They have replaced the oil,with the mfg specified and repaired the cover.My frustration with McGrath Auto, they have not apologized for their mistakes and it makes me wonder if they are able to address large issues that may crop up. Oil changes should not be events.I cant recommend McGrath to anyone.

From being a first time car buyer over the phone this was a fairly smooth process. The only complaint I have is how downplayed the rust situation was but other than that it’s a good running little car purchased for a fair price.

They have excellent customer service. I didnt come in to buy a vehicle, but they still allowed me to test drive multiple cars. In the end, I didnt purchase, but I still had a great time.

With no appointment we stopped with an issue with wiper fluid dispenser as we were passing thru Dubuque. Service manager John brought our car in and welcomed us with open arms. Following up for my daughter. Angel Fox, its a joke the vehicle they pawned off to her. First off i personally called them and asked why the vehicle wasnt taken to the junk yard because thats where it belongs. My daughter before ever going there. Had several conversatios on spending 3500. They told her to come see them. I asked this guy if he sleeps at night He replied yes i sleep fine. I said how could you ever put somebody on the road with a vehicle that should be in the junk yard. I said would you let your daughter if you have one. Drive away in an unfit vehicle? Especially knowing she was hauling your grand children. All he could do is say. If you are so concerned why dont you get her bring it back and cosign for her. Honestly, he knew what he did. He stole 5000 dollars from my daughter. IHis manager must not be very honest either. Nobody in their right mind would have that junk on the lot to sell. They made a real easy 5000 dollars cash that day. When they told her they could fit her price range 3500, and come on up to see us. And turn around and jew her out of 5000. Its sad to think theres people like this that sell vehicles, NOT. ONE CONCERN FOR A PERSONS SAFETY OR LIFE KNOWING SHE HAD CHILDREN SHE WOULD BE HAVING IN A JUNK VEHICLE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. SHAME SHAME ON YOU GUYS. YOU ARE ROBBERS. With this being said he wanted to act like its my fault and why didnt i cosign? He couldnt answer any of my direct questions, kept repeating why didnt i cosign. They saw a young lady. That needed a vehicle desperately and really TOOK. Her. It sickens me when my daughter spent that much money whem she has little ones to care for and gets the shaft like this. I told the salesman i hope nobody ever does this to his daughter or mom or wife. Its a sad world when to grown men take advantage of a young lady, whether it be my daughter or someone elses. Its WRONG,THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE I DOING.

Called on 2 issues on vehicle purchased there. Had financed with extended warranty. Service department charged me said I had no extended warranty. Called the bank lien holder. Paid full warranty on contract + GAP insurance.Waited a month already for the extended warranty reimbursement.Nothing yet.Called ask for owner, a week went by I got disgusted because he never returned the call. I went to the dealership and got a line of BS.Bank has cheaper full coverage extended warranty 3/4 less than the dealership sold me.Have $1000 in repairs that should have not been charged.Its not the sales personnel.Its the financing personnel.

The sales person was very nice and took his time to help find me the car that fit my needs. We then negotiated a price and I was happy with the deal I had gotten. Upon signing the paperwork the finance person told me my payments would be a little higher then we negotiated. This was frustrating for me, but the sales staff did an excellent job in getting me financed at the agreed upon price. I am very happy with customer service I received and would recommend the Sales staff to anyone looking for a vehicle.

Wonderful dealership, had a slight payment issue but they were more than willing to help me through the process! They always have your best thought in mind, will keep you in my mind for any future car purchases!! 10/10 would recommend!

I went to the dealership and as soon as I got there, one of the guys from there, Billy Vohl, asked me what I was looking into. Right away we got to going through options, and we found the car the suited me well. They went to my house just to fill out some paperwork because I couldn’t find transportation to get to the dealership and I live 30-40 minutes away from the dealership, that’s amazing customer service. All in all, the process of getting my car was easy going. If anything I recommend going to this dealership, they are great people!

Bought a truck here about a year and a half ago. Had the water pump go out after 2 months. Issue was fixed, no complaints. Had some other minor inconvenience issues with the title, but not a major issue. Took it in for an oil change and was told that brakes that had been installed 3 days prior had only 75% life left on them. Looked into trading the truck in and found out that the value of the truck was 6,000 dollars less than what I was told it was when purchased. Definitely will not be a repeat customer at any of the McGrath dealerships.

I was recently in the market for a used vehicle, so I stopped into McGrath and test drove a few vehicles and talked to the sales people. They are by far the worst dealership I have experienced in Dubuque. Their sales people are annoying, pushy, and ignorant. They want to sell you anything and everything even if you dont want it. They are also not knowledgeable on the vehicles they are trying to sell you. Their vehicles are overpriced compared to other dealerships with the same or comparable vehicles. They were not willing to negotiate on prices and would not leave me alone even after I ignored the messages, calls, and emails for a couple days. If you want to be pushed into an overpriced vehicle you dont want, by a salesperson that doesnt know much about what they are selling, go to McGrath. Dont get McGrathed. Buy a vehicle elsewhere!

I purchased my 2015 Chrysler 300 from McGrath and I honestly couldn’t be happier with my experience. They listened to everything I wanted in my next vehicle and really delivered. From start to finish they were easy and not pushy in the least bit. When I got into the finance office I was skeptical from things I’ve heard about dealerships but they put that to rest very quickly. Just purchased a used VW convertible today from Sean. I saw the vehicle 3 days ago at there Marion Ia location. They transferred the car to the Dubuque location. I just had back surgery a week ago and have trouble riding in a car. I was told no problem that they would bring it to me today to see. We ended up purchasing the car this morning ! Great customer service!! Oh , we live an hour and half from the dealership

I am not sure how I feel about this place - the customer service in the beginning was great, no complaints at all, and the car was wonderful as well for a while. The sales department is fine, no problems. However, you better hope that nothing goes wrong with the car while under warranty, as you will have to jump through hoops to get it fixed under warranty. I took my car in on July third of this year, it is four days later, and work hasnt even started on it because they cant verify the noise. For the record, it is a rapid, rev - dependant ticking noise from the engine, obvious unless the stereo is on at decent volume, and impossible to miss. I told them it is more evident when cold, that it may be the timing chains, but apparently, the technicians there are deaf, and cant hear a thing from it, and wont even inspect it until they hear it. The only reason I took it there is because of the warranty, and it seems they really dont want to honor it. It also feels like they are stalling, as the warranty expires in a few days. I would not be surprised if they say oh, its this, this, and this only after the warranty is up. I dont know, I only gave two stars because you cant give one and a half, its not one star because of my experience at first. Also, customer service over the phone is rather sub-par.

Lisa Appel was very accommodating to our needs. She was not pushy at all and stayed very late past closing to help get our deal done. The manager was friendly and worked with our requested terms. Hoping the service team is just as awesome to work with! We will be doing business with McGrath in the future.

I have called over 5 times in the last week to.sort out my issue. Your management team must still be in meetings. Strange I get a response when its a public review.

This dealership is an hour away, but we contacted them in hopes of finding a very specific car (Hyundai Kona). The color red was tough to find locally.Josh Whipple found one quickly in Wisconsin, and dispatched people to get this car delivered next day.We drove up that next day, and George Stephenson was our salesman (Josh was not there that day, but handed all relevant information to George). George took care of us with an easy going, trusting, no pressure situation.Due to drive, we got there late in the day and they had no problem working after hours to ensure this happened well.Im not usually a fan of buying cars due to the deal making and such, but this was an easy process.Top recommendations for George, Josh, and the rest of the staff.
