I recently took my nephews bike in for a tune up. They said the bike would be ready by Friday 10/30. When he called on Friday they could not find his bike. He asked how much the tune up would be over the phone and they said it would be $105.00. Fast forward to Sunday. They claimed to have replaced the chain and rear cassette and the price had jumped up to $175.00. I looked over the bike and found rust on the chain and rear cassette. Clearly, they had not been replaced at all. Also, the chain was covered in thick black grease. Usually a tune up includes chain cleaning and new grease which should not be black. I took the bike back to them and luckily I was able to get the manager to admit that they had not worked on the bike at all, even though it had been in their shop for 8 days! The bike mechanic (who was wearing a tie and vest that were very clean) then tried to argue with me and lie and say that the work had been done! I used to take my bikes to this shop all the time when they operated under the old management and the work was always done correctly. I hope they get their business together soon and realize that having new management is not an excuse for lying and attempting to rob costumers. It’s safe to say I will never recommend this place to anyone else. On a positive note I was able to get a full refund for my nephew.

I rented a bike here and had a great experience. The bike was awesome. I went about 40 miles on it no problem. It was a hybrid bike but it still rode quickly and was able to handle some of the more dicey parts of the streets and trails in rock creek. They also had my size! I’m 6’3 so was happy about that. Also much cheaper than other places I checked. Bike came with a tool kit and lock. Beautiful forest is about a 10 min ride away from the shop.

I have been riding bikes since I was on a bike racing team in college. Usually I do all of my own work, but I took my bike in to get a complete tune up last week. Service was incredible and they did an immaculate job with every detail in regards to my bike. The front staff were very friendly and helpful, and the cost of service was 60% that of other competitors.I used to use Contes exclusively, but this establishment outshines them in terms of cost and service. I will be coming back regularly.

I needed to have my bike boxed for moving. I called on 11/12 and asked if this is a service they do. I also asked how long it would take. After being told yes they do and a few days I said Id walk over to drop it off. When I walked in I reiterated bike needed to be boxed. I was told it would be done tomorrow but I said I could come by Saturday 11/14. I went in on 11/14. The bike wasnt ready. It was fairly loud in the shop but it was awkward that the guy was talking to my male friend with me barely acknowledging me when it was my bike. Anyways I was told its not ready. I asked when will it be ready and was told Monday 11/16. I go Monday at 3pm to pick up my bike, still not done. The person who I spoke to on 11/12 and 11/14 said it was the first time he heard the bike needed boxing. When I said I spoke to you both times he starts to explain that one employees family member passed away and another employee just stopped showing up. I asked when I could expect my bike done since Im moving on 11/19. He then goes on to tell me that hes going to bend over backwards to get my bike boxed to either have it done that night or the next morning. I told him ok but this is the third time Ive been told itll be done so just want to make sure itll be done. He proceeds to tell me that he has to go out of his way to get a bike box because they dont have one and theyre short staffed. Also that he doesnt need the attitude and I can take my bike. He grabbed my bike aggressively to which I said I can grab my own bike. He slammed my pedal on the door which isnt a big deal but just shows how careless he was being. Once outside then says sorry it had to go down like this. It actually didnt, somebody shouldve given me a realistic time-frame on accomplishing a job and then delivered on the service you were hired to do. Im not sure if youre aware but the box is actually the most difficult part to get for a bike as a layman without spending alot of money. Fortunately I had a friend in a suburb bring me one from their local shop and did it myself. The most frustrating part is last year when I spent $300-$400 on wheels it was here.

Very frustrating experience. Dropped off my bike for a tune up, new tires and a new saddle install. The front desk worker was rude and said it would be done in 1-1.5 weeks. I called multiple times the next week but the wouldn’t ring and would go straight to voicemail (which was full so I couldn’t leave a message). I went back in person 2 weeks later and it still wasn’t done. Same guy was condescending and told me it would be ready in the next day or 2. I told him about the phone issue which he was not concerned about. I went back 2 days later and they were very unorganized: couldn’t find my old saddle, and asked me if they put on 1 or 2 new tires.. and it was $50 more than I was quoted.

Got a new bike a little over a year from here. Decided to take a chance and shop local. It ended up being a mistake. The convenience of a down the street bike shop did not outweigh the higher cost, poor customer service, bad workmanship, and broken promises of management. I have dealt with them multiple times over the last year and am just fed up with the constant issues that seem to come up when I take my bike in for service. It started with problems with the bike from the beginning. From the moment I purchased the bike there was a overall lack of communication on when it would be ready to be picked up because they had to order it and build it in house. I had to constantly follow up to get a status update as to when my bike would be ready. Two weeks after picking up the bike I was riding down 14th Street and the pedals fell off. Wow. A week later the kickstand fell off. Followed by the bike rack coming lose. A few weeks after that the breaks started making a horrific squealing noise. They attempted to fix it multiple times but couldn’t and tried to convince me this was a normal thing to have happen. I didn’t buy it and pressed them for a fix and finally he begrudgingly got the brakes replaced under warranty with the manufacture. It was just one thing after the next...I always gave them the benefit of the doubt but the icing on the cake was when I went in for my “free one year tuneup” recently as advertised when they sold me the bike. Well it turns out I was a few months past my anniversary so it was no longer free. Disregard the fact that I came in several months prior to my purchase anniversary and was persuaded by management not to get it done at that time and to wait.I’m done with it. A mistake from the beginning. I will never shop here again.

I went here as a first stop to try and decide on a bike. The owner was a bit brusk, but I chalk that up to having to answer my (admittedly) stupid questions and observations. I went back a few days later, for some test rides and found the bike I liked. I also found that the owner was a lot more approachable and kind. Back in March I bought a Groupon for a bike tune up at Rollin Cycles. I had a very easy time making an appointment to drop off and pick up the bike. Agree with others that the owner isnt the friendliest person but that doesnt matter. They did a great job tuning up my bike and making any fixes. When I left the bike was squeaking, so I took it back immediately and they fixed it for me. I purely picked this bike shop out of connivence to where I live (shaw). Seems to be only really one of two shops around. Ive brought my bike here twice, and I will not be returning. First time around, I got a tune up. Everything seemed okay, but they forgot to tighten my rear break which I explicitly asked for when bringing it in. Not really sure what is included in their tune ups. Anyways, no big deal as its a small oversight, staff are pretty friendly too. Second time around is when is when the problems started. My rear break gave out one day, and I brought it in. I was told that I would need a new break pad and and they needed to bleed the brakes. Ended up being all in all $100, cool seemed fair. Got my bike back, felt great - except two days later, rear breaks went dead again. Brought it back in, they told me that the caliber was leaking most likely, and that I would need to replace the entire unit. At this point, I wanted a second opinion as Im starting to question what I just dropped $100 bucks on, they were also pretty slow with work at times, and at one point took a week to call me back. Headed over to REI, were you should take your bike BTW, they let me know that the last shop had bled the brakes incorrectly, and that it had contaminated the new caliber that they had installed. Explained the squeakiness. REI did a correct installation and bleed the brakes correctly. Been 3 months since REI did it right, and havent had an issue at all. Bottom line, I wouldnt return. Maybe this is an isolated scenario, but they lost my trust. The folks at REI are much more professional and provide a higher level of service. Just my two cents.

No pretentious attitudes, just a bunch of guys who seem to really enjoy their jobs. Omar let me take the bike for a spin around the block even though I was really shaky - even let me borrow a helmet so I didnt die! I ended up getting the works - fenders, lights, helmet, lock - and they installed everything. Free maintenance within the year, and he said that when my brakes loosen up from riding in the next few weeks, I can bring it in to have them tightened. Definitely recommend this place to everyone!

I hate to rate any bike shop poorly but unfortunately the service I received to date has been pretty marginal. The first time I used them, I had my bike tuned and cleaned and it came back decently but they never trued the wheel as I had requested -- essentially the only thing that needed to be done. The second time I used them was an emergency where I popped my tire. First issue was they werent open until 9am which kills the commuters who need to get to work. Once I got in, I found that they didnt stock any wheels towards the professional angle -- which is fine I guess -- but not ideal. After picking up a 20 pos tire I was sad to see that they wouldnt just pop the tire on for me right there unless I paid -- would have been nice for a comp. Once I finished changing the tire outside I found their pumps were broken and one of the assistants took it back to be pumped up -- which he over pumped to around 140psi... aix..Anyway -- good people, I respect them, but I cant necessarily rate this place well based on my prior service.

Been here a few times and never liked it. The owner has probably the worst attitude of any bike shop owner Ive ever encountered. I find most shop owners/workers to be happy for your patronage, kind-hearted, and overall friendly/fun people. This guy is none of those things. Second, this shop is expensive compared to others in the city. The work I had done most recently amounted to about $100 and based on my experience in the city it would have been only $60 elsewhere. Third, if youre looking to buy a new bike--dont do it here. The selection is very poor and they are not willing to help you find the right match. Fourth, located in the middle of the city, the location just really isnt great. Unless you favor riding behind the bumper of a city bus, all the good riding in DC is on the outskirts, not right downtown. So this place is out of the way and not particularly easy to get to (unless, of course you live nearby). As one of the other reviewers pointed out, there are tones of bike shops in the city, many of which are just awesome. So dont waste your time and money here--go somewhere that you KNOW is good. P.S. During one of my visits I also tried to use a Groupon--the owner refused to accept it, claiming that because I did not warn him that I would use it beforehand, it was not acceptable. Someone needs to tell this guy how Groupons work--it is NOT a requirement to warn beforehand. The question is, if he knew beforehand that I was going to use a Groupon, how would have that changed the work he did? Would have he instructed his technicians to spend less time, do a half-as-good job? Would have he charged me more to make up the difference? Suspicious at best. I complained to Groupon and got my money back from them, rather than make another visit to this bad bike shop.
