Avoid: long wait times, no phone (a phone call “has to be requested” via a text message), poor communication. It has been a month and we are still waiting on our bike. This was blamed on the manufacture and parts procurement. However I have requested parts for another bike from the same manufacture before and revived them promptly. I am very disappointed that City Bikes was recommend to us.

I had a great experience at the City Bikes in Tenleytown from start to finish. I was looking to replace my stolen bike - the employees were very understanding, helped me choose a comparable model and ensured I got the most effective security measures possible. A special thanks to Rodney and Jason, who both answered any questions I had and were super informative throughout the process. Rodney even went so far as to adjust the handlebars and help me load my bike up into my car when I left. Would highly recommend this local gem for any D.C. bike riders!

The salesperson Grace was fantastic, extremely helpful, knowledgeable and courteous, especially since they were only letting in one customer and family into the store at a time and it was very busy. It would have been a 5 star experience, but they could have helped more people at one time if they had more staff on duty, Grace was alone, I waited 15 minutes for my turn. They could also have brought people outside to do the sales pitch. I did find a bicycle that I love from a very limited selection, so all is great in the end.

In this era of Corona virus and stay at home living, bicycles have been a much coveted product. We have been looking to upgrade my sons bicycle for a few weeks now. But getting a bicycle in the immediate term is a pipe dream! We called around many stores in the area and got nothing but a no response followed up by a hangup on the phone! But things were different when we called this store. We were actually able to speak with a person in the store and she was quite helpful in trying to understand our needs. While the store did not have any bicycle available for immediate pickup, she did have a few bicycles that my son could try and confirm his correct size.So we drove to this store and were able to check out the options. The employees are doing an awesome job is enforcing social distancing and taking all precautions - mask rules are enforced 100% and we were also given gloves to wear while we were in the store. Also, they were allowing only 2 sets of customers in the store at any time!We are quite happy with the service at this location and looking forward to receive my sons bicycle soon!

I am appalled and totally disappointed by the service that my girlfriend received at city bikes located at 4810 Wisconsin Avenue Northwest Washington DC I recommended to her that we check it out since I live in the neighborhood. When we got there the front door had some type of police tape which had to be unlached by the clerk. the clerk at the door and mention that we had to wear masks and wear gloves as well. Im thinking to myself what could be going on inside is this some type of crime scene. the store clerk who came to the door seem to be very rigid and unfriendly with very little customer skills she was very un welcoming in her attitude. We chose a bike and went on about our business. My girlfriend called me back the next day and said she seen the same bike $75 cheaper at another bicycle shop and wanted to get her money back I said so Im sure it shouldnt be a problem because most of the merchants in that area a very friendly. She paid by credit card she ask for her money back and they tell her that she would have to pay a restocking fee 20% she never took delivery of the bike. The store manger mention that he didnt care if she was the President she still would have to pay a restocking fee of 25 percent and a credit card fee of 5%. Was it really that necessary for him to stoop so low. We seen the bike on the floor and it was never pulled out of a box it was already assembled. I appear to be more embarrassed than anything else. She mentioned that she would never purchase from other city back based on the behavior of one of the merchants. Yes we are black Americans and yes we are sensitive to customer service at this store because it reflex and reminds us of why America is in the state it is in. If you really believe in change please avoid this store at all cost they have a fence up for the privilege and are too high with poor customer service.

Short version: I bought a new bike here and it was delivered with significant build defects, and that was after several infuriating calls to figure out what they even had in stock.Long version: I called the location in Adams Morgan to confirm a bike was in stock, and bought it online, with their assurance that they would set it aside to me. They sold it to someone else the next day. I called the Tenleytown location, and they said they had a similar model available, and had 5 in stock. Within an hour, I went to the shop and waited for an hour, and suddenly, none of the 5 were available. When I finally got a bike from them - which was actually the initial model I purchased online - they put it at the front of the queue so that I could get it quickly, as apology for the confusion, which I was grateful for. However, the bike - mind you, a brand new, built-from-box, $1000 bike - was given to me with a misaligned front derailleur (causing chain rub), poorly tensioned cables, and a broken barrel adjuster - as in, the plastic thumbscrew of the barrel adjuster is broken and falling out of the shifter.Incredibly aggravating to even determine what they do have in stock, and once I got something, it was built in a rush with incredibly shoddy workmanship. Take your money and time elsewhere.

Worse place to buy or repair your bike. I bought a new Specializes Roubaix online. I should’ve had it sent to Conté Bike in Falls Church. I called City Bike To see if it was ready to go after a week of already sitting in their shop. Then the pick up experience was too short for having paid $5000 for a new bike. The young man brought it out handed me a plastic bag and did ask me if I had questions or if I need any thing else. Then they called me two weeks later to tell me that my bike was ready. Yes, I could’ve had a second $5K bike if I was not honest...Then I dropped it off for its free 20 hour service call. I asked to have the cassette to be changed to a smaller one. When I went to pick it up a week later nothing had been done. I ride everyday and this is my only bike so no time to leave it with totally incompetent service crew.I’m done with City Bike and going back to Big Wheel bike shops. Adios...

The gentlemen who helped me (Nate) was extremely helpful, and not the least bit condescending when he said that I should bring my bike into the shop to avoid it being stolen. (Like the DC newbie I am, I was planning on leaving it right outside the door...)Nate gave me a basic rundown of the locks and told me which one would be the best bang for my buck. He also added a part to my tires that prevented them from being taken off easily (and again possibly stolen). After putting some air in my tires and providing thoughtful answers to a series of Im a first-time biker and also type-A questions, he sent me on my way.I appreciated Nates clear knowledge and eagerness to help, and felt a lot more confident on the new wheels after hearing all the tips he shared.

Here is my City Bikes story. I went to the Adams Morgan location and found a bike that I really liked. The only problem was that they only had the small frame and I needed the large. The Adams Morgan people called the Capitol Hill Store and they said they had a large frame version of the bike. I traveled from Adams Morgan to Capitol Hill the next day to pick up my bike (I pre-paid to secure the bike). When I arrived, the sales people were confused and could not find the bike. They repeatedly ignored me to help other people. Finally somebody investigated and called Adams Morgan and realized that they had reserved a MALE bike, large frame, which was too large for a female. Not the same bike at all. I asked if we could find the bike elsewhere, and they checked around and said they could order it. They said it would arrive within 1-2 weeks. This was after me being in the store about an hour.A week and a half goes by and I decide to call in to see if it had arrived. The employee answered and seemed confused as he pulled my name up in the system. He said he would call me back. 20 minutes later he did, and told me that the clerk who I had spoken to in the store had messed up and, while they charged me, they did not actually order the bike.I demanded a refund. Ill buy my bike from some place more competent. Ridiculous. I suggest going to a different place if youre looking for a bike.

Made a complaint to the Manager and Regional Sales Manager. Endured aggressive tactics, called names via email and treated very disrespectfully by City Bike’s management. When I returned the bike within 30-d return period, the return was refused and I was chased by City Bike employee in parking lot to take the bike back. Even shoplifters, are not be pursued in such a manner and all I was doing was returning a bike. The company was unapologetic about chasing a 53 year old woman, with a foot injury. What type of company bullies their customers bad and do not honor their return policies? This was the most humiliating and scary engagements with a bike store I ever had!

Where do I start? We brought in my Wifes ebike for a flat tire repair on Tuesday. No word back on the bike all week. Saturday comes so we decide to call them to see what progress had been made. We waited on hold for over twenty minutes before I got frustrated and hung up. We made the trip there to inquire in person since talking on the phone is not possible with these people.Arrived at the store: the associate said that the bike would be ready by early Sunday afternoon and they would deliver it free and it would cost $30.00Sunday afternoon.I called Sunday afternoon as to find out when the bike would be delivered. After waiting on hold for 10 minutes they hung up on us! Again we made the trip in to find out what was going on. At 1pm they said that the bike was put back together but the brake was improperly put back on and it needed to be redone. But they assured us it would be delivered to us by 6pm. Irritated but ok as long as it gets done. The bike shop called at 5:30pm and said that the bike was done and would be delivered shortly. They asked for my credit card information for payment over the phone. Keep in mind I was quoted $30.00 on Saturday. Now I am being charged $112.00!?!?!?!No way after waiting almost a week and with this terrible service was I about to pay $112.00 for a flat tire! They lowered the price for the service and parts to $50. Ok as long as we get our bike back.At 7:15pm someone brought our bike to our apartment, I noticed that the tire was flat, no problem I can always fill it with air. Filled it with air and test rode it. The tire goes flat! What the hell?!?!?! They never fixed the flat and at this time I noticed that they left some brake parts zip tied to the handle bars!Horrible communications with customers, disgusting level of customer service, misquote on repairs and ultimately no repairs done at all.I will be taking my business anywhere else but here in the future

This is my experience with City Bikes:On the positive side: their goods and services are reasonably priced (for DC). The staff is friendly and attentive to customers needs. Hence the two stars.I did have one particular negative experience. When I had my rear wheel trued at City Bikes after a spoke had broken, I was told that I would have to buy a new wheel when another would break or when I would have any further trouble with the wheel. At first the wheel appeared fine though after 3 mile the spokes had loosened again and the wheel was wobbly once more. I took matters in my own hands, ordered the tools, fixed the problem myself and while doing so found out that the repairman had just not put enough overall tension on the spokes (causing them to get loose). There can be two explanations: either the repairman doesnt know his job or the repairman intentionally messed up my bike so I would come back to buy a new wheel. I judge both to be unacceptable and reasons never to come back to City Bike.
