Jerry with South Florida Auto went above and beyond for me. I wanted to purpose to my (now wife) girlfriend with a ring but also her dream car (1965 Deluxe VW Beetle). I remember driving by the shop as a child, when Jerrys dad ran the shop. I figured i would check in to see if they had any leads on a local Bug for me to purchase. At the time he didnt, so i kept looking. About 2 months later i got a call from Jerry telling me he had a friend that was ready to sell theirs. I ended up buying the Bug from Jerrys friend and i couldnt be happier (neither could my wife).I purposed with the Bug and she said yes. Jerry at South Florida Auto is nothing short of amazing. I dropped in on a Saturday morning with no appointment to have my car looked at. It had been stalling out on me and the engine light had come on. I was able to drive it over to Jerry’s shop before it completed died on me. Not really knowing what to expect or if my car could even be fixed the same day I had no choice but to leave it there. Jerry explained the process and told me he wasn’t sure If he would be able to fix it today ( Saturday) but I could leave it there and it would be taken care of first thing Monday. I honestly wasn’t expecting to get my car back until late Monday. Jerry called me a few hours later and told me what the issues was, he had the parts on hand and he would be able to have my car fixed and ready for me to go, same day. I was shocked and grateful. Jerry was so helpful, knowledgeable and he expedited the repair process. He was informative and upfront about everything. I live about 25 mins from the shop and had to call an Uber to get back over to Jerry’s shop. He’s assured me it was fine and he wouldn’t leave until I was there to pick up my car. In the past I have gone to big name repair shops or the dealer and I always feel like I get taken advantage of. I didn’t feel this way with Jerry. I felt his prices were fair and honest, not to mention he fixed me car the same day!!!! No appointment, no call ahead, nothing. Thanks again Jerry! I’m glad I found you. Would highly recommend!! My 2008 Chevy Malibu headlights/high beams were giving me problems for almost a year. I took it to a previous mechanic and they said that it could be a wiring issue but wasn’t sure after changing my bulbs. I took it to south Florida Repair & Jerry immediately checked my car & fit me in the next day. After quoting me a reasonable price, Jerry not only changed my bulbs but worked to get to the root of the issue as to why my bulbs kept burning out.He not only informed me of the issue but fixed it by changing my melted pigtails (connectors) so that I could no longer have issues of my bulbs burning out.I am soooo appreciate. I don’t have a mechanic down here and he made me incredibly comfort to work on my car. Thank you!! Will def be coming back

I took my 2004 Chrysler crossfire here, they put in a clutch in for me, new belts, new pullys. Also put a new front to back exhaust on put a new rim on along with a new tire and hood mounts! He also took upon his self to fix the old rim and put a spare on the car and put it in the back without me asking! I’ve had the car for months now and I’m super happy with the work he did an amazing job and I recommend for anyone who is looking

Myself and my boyfriend traveled to Tampa from Ft Myers for medical reasons. Within our first 24 hours here we had car issues. My insurance listed South Florida Auto Repair as an option. I called a couple of times but didnt get an answer. Well 5 minutes later a very nice gentleman named Jerry called me back and apologized for missing my call and I hadnt even left a message. Major points for that one alone. Anyway, he advised us that we could have the car towed to him and he would be able to look at it Monday morning. Well its now 3 hours later since our initial conversation and we are back up and running. He really did go the extra mile to make sure we were able to travel. Found this place in January 2017 when my car was making a loud noise. Being in college and young, I was worried that I’d be taken advantage of at a repair shop. This shop had the best reviews I could find and many people highlighted how honest the owner, Jerry, is. I brought him my car and the turn around time was so quick, the price couldn’t be beat. I was thankful.Then this January came around (2018), and I have a different car, that completely broke down on me. Repairs by the dealership were steep of $4,000. Jerry was able to cut this cost down tremendously, and he worked as fast as he could on it. He did offer me a ride to my apartment down the street. He also did a few other minor improvements that he saw I needed done on my car, because he already had the parts apart and it was easy to get to. I was also in a bind without my car, and the problem was serious, and I called Jerry to see if he had any ideas, he did a very large favor that I could never repay him for.He really is as honest as the other reviews say, he’ll tell you the news if it’s good, or if it’s bad, but either way it’s to help you, the customer. Very hard worker, and really reasonable prices. I’d recommend him to anyone.

After experiencing several other auto repair places, including the Honda dealership, Jerry’s shop was the absolute best! The Honda dealership quoted me $1200 in work, and he fixed my car for a third of that! Jerry is the person I trust to fix my car!

Best Service in town, honest pricing and hard work.My little car has also done me right but recently started dying at stop lights and failing to start every other attempt. no check engine or any warning light was on. After being told there was nothing wrong with my car by two other mechanics, I took my 2009 Hyundai to South Florida Auto Repair and Lo and Behold, I was helped right away. Jerry listened to me at great length and was very respectful and attentive. He then outlined his policies and what steps he would be taking to get to the bottom of my cars issues. He kept in constant contact and made sure I understood what was going on. I know it wasnt an Easy fix since it would take actual mechanical investigation but he NAILED IT! I met Jerry several years ago while working in a local convenience store. I was surprised how honest and knowledgeable he was about all kinds of car brands. When my wife was looking for a car, he advised on the best brands to keep maintenance costs down and he was right. Jerry reminded me a lot of my uncle, a mechanic who knows his stuff. He fixed a problem on my car that the dealer tried to fix twice before giving up and he fixed it in less than an hour. My car runs like it was bought brand new.He contacted me several times during the repair to keep me updated. He had found an issue with the car that couldnt have possibly been found until the engine was apart, and offered to fix it at the original labor quote, which was above and beyond expectation of a mechanic, but then he also offered to fix the sensor for the original labor quote too.He loves what he does and it shows in his work.I couldnt recommend this mechanic more. He does quality work.

Im a international student and this is first time repair my car,last night I damaged my car in reverse, cause the speed is very slow the damage is not huge. In this morning, I was going to a repair shop that I found on google map, they had a serious expression and said car is hard to repair they need 600 dollars. I was amazing what a crazy men, and I just say I dont have enough money. Gave this shop a phone call after seeing all of the positive reviews. I explained to jerry that I couldn’t leave the car overnight, because I have to go to work in the mornings. He started yelling at me over the phone telling me “You need to figure that out” & “You’re not listening to me!” As a veteran & someone who’s also from upstate NY, I thought that I would be treated with some degree of professionalism. Don’t recommend doing business with this place due to the lack of professionalism. Call me old fashioned but customer service is just as important to me as quality.Side note to the owner: don’t reply to this review arguing with me, because that just shows how much of a lack in professionalism you truly have.

Great mechanics, and as a college student, it was refreshing to go to mechanics who do not try to make extra money off of you and are very good at their jobs. I had a faulty cat. converter and they fixed that and made me aware of possible other issues in the future, without pressuring me to pay for it on spot. Overall fantastic service and very timely !

My daughters 2011 Volvo C70 air conditioning was not working. Jerry diagnosed the problem to a relay and a pressure switch. He had it working again for $200. I was expecting it to cost more. I wIll have my daughter take her car to Jerry again if it is in need of repair.

Absolutely outstanding service and prices. I had to have a throttle body replaced and have the computer reprogrammed for the new part. The dealership wanted $1600 and they did it for $800. My Passat runs better than even before the throttle body gave out. I recommend anyone with a German car that needs maintenance or restoration pay him a visit.

The two things you most want from your mechanic are skill and honesty. At this sleepy little shop, which has been an institution in the USF area for more than 40 years, you get both - in spades. Problems are expertly diagnosed and all options presented. There is never a question of integrity; never an effort at up-selling. The consequences of temporary vs. permanent fixes are explained, as well as the option of doing nothing. They go out of their way to contain costs by using rebuilt or salvaged parts whenever possible and appropriate. These folks understand both the functional and emotional relationship one has with his/her vehicle, and treat it as if it were their own. The facility may not satisfy the aesthetic tastes of some, and this isnt the place for quick in and out type service needs. But if you are looking for the utmost in quality and integrity, from folks with a work ethic second to none, youll not find a better place.

Jerry and his staff do great work and at a reasonable price. While specializing in Volkswagen, they are also very knowledgeable on a variety of makes and models. I trust them with the maintenance of my familys three cars.

Took my car in Saturday for an overheating issue, and was quickly accessed to be a radiator issue. Got a fair and accurate estimate, and even got a ride from Jerry to pick up my car when it was ready. Staff was very nice and really knew what they were talking about. I came to this shop expecting to pay 700$ in repairs another shop told me I needed, and I walked away not paying a cent! Jerry took the time to show me exactly what was up with my car, showed me the quick fix he did, and explained exactly what state my car was in. Jerry is a lifesaver! I am not local to Tampa and was visiting USF for work. My car overheated. I brought my car in around 5 on Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday morning Jerry called to explain what the problem was (a cooling fan.) By Wednesday afternoon the problem was fixed and I had my car back. Jerry even gave me a ride back to my hotel *and* picked me up from USF so I didnt have to pay for an Uber. The price for the repair was reasonable and fair. 2 weeks ago, I brought my Jetta to Jerry due to a A/C failure. It was my first visit to Jerry and was purposed for a second opinion, before that, I was told by some other mechanics that the whole A/C kit needs to be replaced (compressor, drier, condenser) and it would cost more than $1K. Then Jerry came and saved the day, after inspection, he confirmed me that only the control valve need to be replaced, which would cost less than $500. Now, after 2 weeks, the A/C keeps blowing freezing air and without an issue. Thanks to Jerry for the remarkable work! And Jerry also polished the headlight of my old Jetta, for FREE!!! which couldnt be better! Overall, if anyone owns a German car and needs a mechanic, GO to see Jerry, at least for a second opinion, then Jerry would prove to you that hes the mechanic you need.

It was a tough job for someone who did for the first time and I couldnt get out the last screw since it was a little bit damaged. Jerry helped me take out the screw and finish the job. No, he doesnt have the free beverage bar, courtesy lounge or loaner cars but that is all made up and more by him doing the truly required quality work at honest reasonable price. I have Jerry’s place to go to if I’m stuck in Tampa again. My car battery died right at Wawas. He was the closest mechanic shop and so I called there. I was blessed someone picked up the phone right when It was closing hours. I’m from St. Pete and have to drive my dad to Moffit for the next month. Moffit center only about a mile away. He was sweet and came by to diagnose my car after closing hrs since I’m only a mile away. Surely enough the battery died on my old car. The major point is he took his time to pick up the phone right At 5:30pm and drove to Wawas to see what’s wrong and jump started my car after the shop was closed. It would’ve took hrs if I waited for someone from St. Pete bc it was rush hour. Best customer service of the year!!! Thank you Jerry!

Jerry has been taking care of my Civic (affectionately named Roberto) since I moved to Florida about 2 years ago from Upstate NY (where he is from as well!). He is fantastic and so efficient. Ive never felt more comfortable bringing Roberto somewhere. I know when I need something I can always call. I was driving from SC to Tampa on a Thursday night and my car overheated -- I pulled over and called Jerry right away and he was able to talk me through what I needed to do and I got in the next morning to the garage to get everything taken care of. His prices are reasonable and Ive recommended him to many of my friends. Hes conveniently located near my job (VA hospital) and can drop off my car and walk over - Jerry always offers me a ride. I wish I could give him more stars!!!!!

Jerry is a really nice guy who will not charge u for something that does not need to be done. I saved about 900$ by getting my car problem solved while Nissan dealer would have charged me for that. He will also not tell you something if it didnt need to happen. He will call you and tell you what is wrong with the car and only proceed for what you tell him. Also shows you what he worked on and explains you what and why it had happened. He is also an actual graduate from USF so he knows his stuff. Thanks Jerry

Jerry at South Florida Auto has been a lifesaver for me. Went there with my Honda CRV. My car started to take a 3 sec delay when starting. Theres a $75 diagnostics fee even if the diagnostics is wrong at this place. Jerry, the owner, insisted that my alternator is bad and, hence, the battery, and the alternator needs to be replaced for $420 and hes already ordered one for me lat night. The thing is that he never saw my car until the AM after, I was wondering why he would order an alternator for me. He also said he was charging my battery for so many hours thats why it took him so long. I got the feeling it was a total lie but I still had to pay $75. I went to PepBoys the night before, they checked my battery and alternator for free and they said they were totally fine and my starter might be going bad.I went to Honda dealership after I went to South Florida Auto and even they did my diagnostics for free! They said my battery and alternator are totally fine and I need to change a starter. The problem doesnt even sound like it would be an alternator in the first place.Also, Jerry told me he would give me a ride back home. What he didnt say is that hes going to give me a ride in my own car and then drive it back. I had to write down the mileage in front of him to make sure he wont be driving my car around town. He also kept asking if Im a student and what do I do, and if Im local. It felt like he was trying to get a sense of how much he can charge me.I am very very upset with the owner of this place for such a lie and the money he just wanted to make on me and my time that he wasted.

He is amazing! Told me to go to the dealer because the seatbelts were malfunctioning. I ended going and getting it fixed for FREE. So he saved me a ton of money! He replaced my plate lights. He is my go to guy when my car needs repairing!
