Ever since I first passed the painted windows, I’ve been curious about this place. I walked in and it was buzzing with people hanging out! The bakery is on the opposite side of the diner so you could grab coffee and a pastry (which I wish I did) or get full service dining. I saw some people on their laptops working but I would say to make sure you can tolerate the noise. I would definitely meet up with someone here.I got the Winchester, iced coffee, and breakfast potatoes. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Winchester, but the iced coffee was decent and the croissant was SO GOOD. Huge, buttery, and holds together without being too flaky.I added pictures of their Cakeballs— definitely coming back to try those with their coffee! Very accommodating staff. I also think there was one waitress working while I was here. Shout out to Kaitlyn!

Tried this place out for breakfast on a Thursday morning and was overall pretty disappointed.I waited at the Please Wait To Be Seated sign for about 5 minutes before a server came by and said they didnt have a host and I could sit anywhere. There was only one server for the entire place and you could tell that she was overwhelmed. Because of this service was slow, I was never offered another coffee and it took about 15 minutes to try and get the bill.I ordered the breakfast tacos and the food was pretty average. It was served on a cheap plastic tray, and overall looked like something I could have made at home. Presentation definitely could use some work. The hash brown had food flavor but was overcooked and dry. The coffee was very good quality and the side of fruit was fresh and flavorful. I would try it again and hope they can address their staffing problems but was a disappointing first time here.

This was my 1st and likely LAST TIME HERE.That cake balls I had were great! The CUSTOMER SERVICE CAN BE INFINITELY BETTER.It is weird to be stared and NOT acknowledged. What I mean is, I walked in around 9 am looking for a donut before work and the TWO young ladies working gawked at me without a word.No other customers waiting... I received No greeting and No one asked if I needed help.I walked over to the bakers counter and waited for someone to attend me. While the girls could see me standing there.... No one came over. The girls continued to enjoy their conversation. I had to walk up to the register where they were standing talking and ask for help. ONLY THEN DID I GET ANY ASSISTANCE which was lack luster. I wasnt informed of products or special or anything.I FELT EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE AND UNWELCOME.THE GOOD NEW IS. THE ARE OTHER PLACES TO SPEND MY MONEY.

I dropped in for an early Saturday morning coffee and avocado topped bagel with two types of pesto and sprouts. A meal enough for two that was delicious. 2 coffees and an order of scrambled eggs and one bagel order came out to $28 before tip. The bill was not itemized but it seemed to be right. If you dont have a smart phone you are SOL because they dont have printed menus for old folks.

A concept from The Fifty/50 Restaurant Group, West Town Bakery & Diner took over the space previously operated by Bleeding Heart Bakery in 2012, and through careful expansion now serves both River North and Wrigleyville in additional to the original at 1916 West Chicago Avenue.Keeping some aspects of the Bleeding Heart’s graffitied design, and currently one of the Windy City’s few full-service bakeshops with indoor seating, it is amidst COVID-19 precautions that guests will find West Town clean and well-stocked, a fairly concise list of brunch favorites offered alongside Pastries from Chef/Partners Chris Teixeira and Sam Turner.Sparsely populated on a rainy Tuesday, traffic flowing one-way with all staff masked and gloved, it was with seven items bagged that Breakfast was enjoyed on the patio, the last Chocolate Almond Croissant enjoyable save for a clump of Frangipane while West Town’s $2.25 Chocolate Chip Cookie lacks not for Butter or Vanilla amidst the crispy edge and soft center.Open from 7am until 3pm daily, customers on this particular morning ranging in age from kids in strollers to septuagenarians, Teixeira and Turner’s Donuts feature springy Brioche with an exaggerated rise, both Coffee-Cream filled and “Homer” a bargain under three bucks while $1.95 Cake Balls may not be the most frugal choice, though both Carrot and French Toast were two perfect bites embodying West Town Bakery’s “principal belief that everyone should be able to have their Cake and eat it too.”

Pastries should get a 5/5 in a stand alone review. Brunch food was fine. The flavors were tasty but ingredients were lacking. Eggs Benedict - Chorizo and hollandaise are to die for but the Avocado and English muffin were both hard/tough. Bloody was good but uninspired. There is a duality to loving the space, location, people, and leaving slightly disappointed. Ill be back because west town has earned it. Will have coffee and pastries on the list.

Highly disappointed with our wedding cake. It was not white and the vanilla interior looked burnt / dark. The flavor was off, didnt quiet taste like vanilla either. I was very detailed in the design I requested as well. The polka dots did not match the sample provided. When I reached out, we did not receive an appropriate response. I asked to speak to management and havent heard anything back in over a week. As a small business owner, I couldnt imagine not responding to an upset customer.

Was extremely disappointed in my experience! I ordered a wedding cake in advance, signed a contract and provided payment promptly. I was told the delivery window would be between 12pm-2pm. I followed up a few days prior just to make sure everything was on schedule and I was informed that it was. Day of our event at 4pm the venue called me and notified me that the cake was not there. I was unable to get a hold of ANYONE at West Town Bakery because they close at 3pm. I reached out via social media, email and voicemail there was no one available. So imagine on your special day ... youre chasing down your wedding cake! Luckily I was able to reach someone at the Acme hotel that knew someone that worked at a DIFFERENT West Town Bakery that finally got in touch with someone that knew someone about my cake. We ended getting our cake at 5:20pm for our event that started at 5pm! The cake was not edible, Im not sure if it wasnt thawed out or what but the cake was so dense and heavy even the restaurant had trouble cutting into it. What a nightmare and disaster!!! Id imagine the next day someone wouldve gotten back to me regarding my order and NO ONE DID. I had to follow-up with them and I got a generic email and no phone call! How unprofessional! So if youre looking for a wedding cake or any custom cake ... steer clear from here!

Bill. Hes a host and a waiter. Hes friendly and accommodating. Go to see Bill. Otherwise theres really nothing else to this place that impresses me. I liked the audacity of having a breakfast mac and cheese on the menu. The only problem was its so unctious. With no kind of acid to cut it with and a paucity of bacon and vegetables, it became a huge slog to try to get through. Their biscuits didnt fare any better. At least they know how to prepare a decent egg. This seems to be a neighborhood spot. The patrons there seemed very comfortable with it. If youre from the neighborhood I can see the appeal. But its definitely not a destination location for me. Glad I ate there though. I got to meet Bill.

Unfortunately I can’t rate the food as customer service was so horrible we decided to take our business elsewhere. I have a family member with numerous food allergies so I was looking for a vegan, nut-free dessert for this family member for an event. The person at the counter was VERY rude when I asked if they could direct me to which items were both vegan and nut-free. I also could not fully understand what they were saying because they were mumbling and speaking quietly, but they were clearly so annoyed i did not want to ask them to repeat themselves. I figured I would try to figure it out myself as best I could. They did say the items with nuts were clearly labeled, which was not true as there were items that obviously had nuts with no label. When I asked if the cake bites were vegan, the person again very rudely told me “anything with white tags is vegan, LIKE I SAID!” It was really unpleasant. They should consider getting more clear signage (nowhere on or around the case did it say that items with white tags were vegan) if they don’t want to answer basic customer questions.

Never written a review before but had one of the weirdest customer experiences ever here today. Absolutely LOVE this spot, quality food and have never had anything but great service. However, today I waited 15 minutes for an iced latte while several customer’s as well as online orders were tended to instead. The girl making my drink was clearly frustrated and said out loud “I hate Thursdays”. She then took a store phone call and stopped making my drink. When I tried to approach the other girl at the counter she stopped me and said, “it gets confusing I’m not trying to be an asshole”. Seriously one of the weirdest customer experiences I’ve ever had.

I got my vaccine today (!!!) so I wanted a celebratory treat. When I saw that this place was nearby so my boyfriend and I pulled over because wed always wanted to stop in.In the large display case I was psyched to see hella pastries, including donuts — which were the one thing I was craving. The donuts baked here are GIGANTIC and fluffy, topped with glorious frosting and sprinkles. One is even called the Homer, because it looks just like the famous Simpsons donut. YOU KNOW THE ONE!!!Anyway I ended up picking a chocolate cream-filled donut, which was also huge, as are all of the donuts here at West Town Bakery. I also couldnt resist picking up a bag of WTB Dark Matter coffee blend, which the barista kindly ground up for me.This place rocks, and I am mad I waited so long to visit. Or maybe I will look at it as, Im excited that I got to experience it for the first time. :)

Please update your menu, online and in the restaurant. The reason I came, the short rib Benedict is no longer available but still shows up online as a choice. When at the restaurant, looking at the printed menu, my second choice, corned beef brisket, is no longer available. The counter staff, who was very apologetic, recommended something new on the printed menu but that isnt listed online, breakfast nachos. It became obvious to me that I picked the wrong day to come because before biting into my dish the mushrooms looked exceptionally large, I called the restaurant to find out what variety of mushrooms these were and she assured me that they were button. Upon tasting them I found them to be bitter and inedible. I tried eating around them but there was some other flavors that I couldnt identify and that I couldnt tolerate either. I liked the atmosphere of the place, I want to come back to try the baked goods but this experience was not pleasant, sorry.

I ordered through UberEats. The Winchester breakfast sandwich and that thing was massive, definitely not overpriced at 11$. The chicken sausage had a bit too much parsley for me(pretty sure it was). The sandwich was delicious but very very rich. I would have liked more peppers or some other type of vinegar or spice to cut down on it. The coffee was alright, some sediment at the bottom of my cup. Havent gotten the chance to try the other items yet but they look delicious. The goat cheese pastry looks different on UberEats vs in person.

I was pretty disappointed in the donuts. There were only 5 available on Uber Eats. I don’t know if that’s all they have or they don’t have them all on the app. Either way it’s disappointing. The bigger issue is the donuts are super...bready? They are very thick and cannot be described as soft, even the crepe filled ones. The biggest surprise to me was that the red velvet donut wasn’t a red velvet donut. It was a normal donut with red velvet icing.

I got my wedding cake from West Town Bakery, and they absolutely killed it!We had two flavors: chocolate cake with chocolate filling and vanilla cake with caramel filling. Both were amazing in the tasting as well as day-of! And while West Town Bakery had a more limited selection than other bakeries we considered, their taste was superior. Another important factor for us: these guys can do a completely gluten free wedding cake! Of the five different places we tasted with, West Towns gluten free cake was the best, hands down. It was soft, spongey perfection, and no one at the wedding could tell it was gluten free. There was a pretty lengthy wait time to get in for a tasting, and it was a little annoying that you could only pay the deposit/balance over the phone (calling at specific hours). But nonetheless, we loved our wedding cake, and so did our guests! My husbands #1 wedding day regret? Not getting to eat more of the cake.
