We had a blast at Hatbox ! Lauri was really responsive and very generous with her time. She was really knowledgable of all of the inventory and was able to eyeball hat sizes just by looking which was SUPER impressive! The inventory was really extensive and Lauri works with artisans to create new hats which is really unique to find in such a small business. I would HIGHLY recommend.

I had no idea what getting a custom hat experience would be and I recommend this place wholeheartedly because of it. The owner is an expert and I will be going back not only myself but as gifts for my friends and family. Wow. She is also one of the nicest people I have ever met.

Wandered into this shop at the beginning of 2020 while we were exploring Austin. My partner was interested in getting a hat. We found a great casual hat with a wide brim to keep the sun and rain off of him while he does outdoors things. Hes had the hat for over a year now and still loves it. The customer service was great and they even packaged up the hat and shipped it to his residence since we were visiting from out of town. A fond pre-COVID memory.

We were in the Hat Box this weekend and worked with Lauri the owner. She is a small business owner who has found a way to make her business work, through the pandemic, out of her garage!Not only did she honor our out of date gift certificate but from the moment we met her she was a delight to work with.She is very knowledgeable about the different styles of hats and even knew the cultural significance of each one. I have a very small head and have never been able to find a quality hat. The prices are fair, and the selections are perfect for any occasion.I was able to find not one but two different style hats that fit me perfect and make me feel fashionable!The best part was that each of her hat sales comes with a spiritual blessing of good health and fortune which gave our experience a very personable touch.I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for a quality hat at fair price! I was looking for a beautiful sun hat. It seems every store I looked in Austin only sells those cowboy hats. I was looking for a fancy hat not a “all hat, no cattle” kind of hat, ans boy did I found it. The owner picked up the call and we made an appointment for me to see the hats. She has all kinds of beautiful hats available for purchases. Whatever hat you’re looking for, I’m sure she has. Lauri was a delight to deal with as well, I ended up leaving with two hats and I know exactly where I need to go when looking for a specific hat next time. I highly recommend her store.

The Hatbox is...A feeling of family. I heard about this place through a friend in Dallas. He told me he was having them mailed, but would like to pick a couple up for him since I was in the area. After hearing about it, I had to check this place out. To my amazement, I loved it. So many hats with a bunch of knowledge and experience behind them. You think an establishment would treat a customer as a customer. Come in, browse their stock, purchase and leave. Not here. I felt as though Lauri Turner, owner, wanted me to be a part of her “Hatbox family”. I felt welcomed throughout my time there. So, thank you to her for the great experience and much needed conversations about what hats truly mean to a person. Awesome place to visit, even through the ice storm. I absolutely LOVE my Coddiwomple hat! Its gorgeous and so well crafted. I ordered online and corresponded via email with them. When The Hat Box was on Congress Ave, I happened to find them and the Magic began and also my addiction to hats!!!They are no longer on Congress Ave and you need to either order off the website or set up a personal appointment...I hope to see them thriving again...so treat yourself to your own addiction to hats!

Extremely rude male salesman. We always shop locally as we will always support local businesses and believe the overall the quality is better. My wife and I went to the Hatbox today, as we believed a quality top hat would be the perfect addition to my Halloween costume this year. She and I dressed down today for our shopping downtown and on S. Congress. It was apparent that the male salesman did not believe we could afford the high price tag on a specific hat I requested to try. He first hesitated to allow me to try it on. He said “That is a VERY nice hat.” in the most condescending manner. Then proceeded to offer the one below it., that was a lot cheaper. I believe he recognized my utter shock, and finally reaches for the hat I asked for. After that, we left and took our business elsewhere. Found a better made hat in the process. We will never step foot back in the Hatbox again. Unfortunate, that he’s costing the small business he works for sales and revenue.

It is nearly impossible to find a good haberdasher anywhere, yet here is one of the best I have ever been to. Great selection and knowledge staff.

Only place that you can buy a fancy hat for the Derby and a cowboy hat for your kid. Very knowledgeable staff. A little pricy for some items, but you definitely pay for quality and service. $40-$100 is what you should prepare to pay for a great hat, but they do have some for less and handmade and designer hats for more. Theyll also repair hats and custom fit them. Great local shop!

Great store and something that should be cherished. In the days of cookie-cutter stores (including chain stores selling hats) its refreshing when you come across a store like this run by an owner with passion. The exact thing that gives life color.

Went for a custom made hat. Asked to use the bathroom. Rude salesman refused and directed his disabled customer across busy 4 lane street. Instead, the lovely young lady in the Contemporary Arts Center next door let me use her rest room. Conclusion: if you are disabled, or know someone who is, go elsewhere for a hat...I did. Hey Hatbox, clean up your restroom so your customers can use it.

Best hat repair ever! Excellent customer service, and supreme knowledge and skill was executed on repairing my brothers military hat. My family and I are truly grateful. The short time I was in the store (drop off and pick up) the store appeared well laid out, clean and organized. It was a welcoming environment.

The guys who man this shop really know their stuff when it comes to hats. They were very helpful and knowledgeable when it came to all of our questions regarding hats. We ended up leaving very satisfied with 2 very nice hats!

It is just *sooo* hard to find a decent hat. Hatbox has several. Friendly, helpful staff will point you in the right direction. Seattle and Oakland have lost their haberdasheries. Make a point of buying something from this Austin jewel.

I have never worn a real hat in my life. Baseball caps, yes, but when I visited Austin this week, I popped in to this story to see if I could find a cowboy hat I would feel comfortable wearing. No luck finding the right look. Thats when Veronica here in this store showed me a black Baileys fedora and found exactly what worked on my head. She was helpful, funny, gracious and an expert at what she does. I bought my first real hat here all because if this friendly store and helpful staff. Highly recommended. :)

These guys are fabulous! I found them online and sent them an email about repairing a beautiful straw hat I had purchased in Brooklyn. I sent them a few photos of the hat in its current deplorable state and received a quick reply with some necessary questions about its current status. They were so helpful. So without hesitation, I boxed up my hat and sent it to Austin. They let let me know when they received it and gave me hope that my pretty little hat could be restored to its full glory. Last week I received updated photos of my fully restored hat. COULD NOT BE HAPPIER! Very reasonable price for what they did. I look forward to wearing my hat this Spring and Summer! Great service. Expert hat sizing was finished off with a Texas star we purchased fitted with love, soaked up some hat history during fitting which included hot glue preventing star rotation! This is a pricy hat store with a big selection of hats, however they also offer great discounts so you can find a few items that are high quality for a very low price. We ended buying two hats for about 50 bucks that to be honest is way better that most hats you find and other stores. Such a fun store love the fact that you can try so many hats. Definitely going back son again.

Finally got the nerve to buy my first hat... one to actually wear on a regular basis. As soon as I walked in someone behind the counter asked if I needed assistance... even though they were busy she took the time to acknowledge me.She advised which styles would look good on me and which to stay away from. Horrible experience. Never let them maintenance your hats. I just paid to have them damage priceless hats from a deceased relative worth probably $1,000+ and not actually do the work I wanted. Run away from this place. Period. Everyone’s very kind but the work sucks.
