What can I say, you have a hobby, this place pretty much has you covered. RC airplanes; got them. Model airplanes; got them. Foam glider planes; yep, have them too. paper airplanes; they may even make you one of you ask nicely. From RC cars to slot cars, and model trains to science and games, they have everything to keep you occupied. The staff is always friendly and super helpful. Every employee I encountered was knowledgeable and willing to help me out until I had what I needed.

Every time I go to Hobby Town in Virginia Beach, Josh Williams is very good at explaining in detail when it comes to working on rc cars. He is very helpful, patient and dedicated to his job.

Fun place with a variety of things. I did not expect to find a nifty little selection of anime and star wars things, but was pleasantly surprised! Staff is really friendly too.Great place to get a unique gift too.

Hobby Town is a very clean store. It has a variety of plastic models and rc models. They also have trains, metal earth models, paints, tools, etc. My husband thoroughly enjoyed shopping there. He purchased a model hed been wanting for a long time. Over all is was a great experience. The associates were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

This place is a dream come true to my son...He loves anything remote control so he loves this place...The big guy was kind enough to answer all my questions about the boats, airplanes, trucks, sea airplanes, helicopters... There are tons of toys in here...The big racing cars cost close to $300 I cant image buying one but I wouldnt judge anyone who does...They look so fun... But costly...They have tons of cars even a full scale model train with a small village in the middle of it...This place is awesome...

I went in here as a total beginner to rc cars. I knew I wanted one , just didn’t know where to start. Devin helped me and was phenomenal. Answered all my dumb questions with all the patience in the world. Sold me on a traxxas rustler 4x4 vxl, and a battery/ charger. $560 total. Got home, charged it up, ran through the first battery, steering no longer worked. Bummer. Did a little research and found out it is probably the servo went bad.I go back into the store, spoke with devin, he confirmed it was the servo. Took the rc back to the manger, came back out in less than 10 seconds and told me the manager said I’d have to go through traxxas. That’s not to cool. I spend nearly $600 on a rc car for it to break in 20-30 mins with no help from the vendor whatsoever.the district manager was there and I spoke with her, explaining what happened. She said there’s nothing they will do, to cover “normal wear and tear”. Normal wear and tear? 20-30 mins?? Come on, give me a break. She said if they went out of their way to help everyone, they amd the manufacturer would get “burnt”. I said what about the customer getting burnt?? She said a servo going out isn’t getting burnt. Well, it seems to me I got burnt because I was only able to use to rc one time for 20-30 mins before it broke. 50 cent in gears for the servo isn’t going to burn anyone. If the manga entertainment would’ve even remotely stood behind the product they are selling, I’d be happy to come back and spend more money. After all this, I’m not sure I’d spend anymore here. So in reality , yes , you got burnt hobby town for not doing a thing to help your paying customers. Only reason I gave 3 stars is because of devin. If the management acted like he did, I’d be a happy customer.

Very helpful staff, small indoor track, land sea air rcs, Gundam and other models, even some kites. Although it is more expensive then online

I usually go to the store in Newport news but I was over this side and wanted to get some model ships. I walk in and the lady greets me and I respond. I knew what I wanted and where it was. I was here last week with a friend and already checked it out. I go to the back where the model ships are and Im trying to decide which ones I want. I look up and at the end of the aisle is the cashier. Shes literally just standing there watching me. She doesnt ask if I need with anything. She literally left the register to watch me shop. It was so uncomfortable. She only left when people went to check out.. I grab my stuff and get to the register. She still staring at me and not focusing on the people in front of her. Its my turn and she tries to make nice but Im irritated that she followed me. Overall. I will stick to the Newport news store.

Hobbytown USA was much busier than I expected. I purchased kites and browsed. Its a fun place to shop and has a very friendly atmosphere.

Bought a defective product and tried to return next day they would not return it after I was told they would absolute rip off will never buy from here again

Been to the store three times and have been disappointed two out of three. The first time was to see their selection of R/C items. The store is kept very clean and is well organized. Their selection is fair and prices are reasonable.The last two was to purchase upgrades and parts for R/C car. The staff was not very helpful and seemed irritated that I asked them to look for kits in the back. Overall not very helpful. I was one of three customers at the time with a staff of four and I still had to stand in front of the counter and ask for assistance. I was prepared to spend alot that day but due to the staff I decided to spend my money online from traxxas.com and prolinerc.com. both places have exceptional customer service just a phone call away.. Atleast those places act like they want my business.

I wish Debbie RC World was still here . This place price gouging the hell out of products because there is no competition now. There selection is alright. Not the best.

Disappointed........They have every color under the sun for model paint except the common ones. No black, no gray and no aluminium. I drove from NC for this disappointing experience. Time to shop for the paints on Hobbylobby.com which is where I should have went to first.

The employees at this store are amazing! They are individual, walking encyclopedias on various topics. Also, they are incredibly friendly, and they absolutely LOVE what they sell. Not only do I feel like a kid when I enter HobbyTown USA, I also feel like Ive entered a room full of friends.Please support these small hobby shops. Without them, we will be left with Walmart like employees who know nothing about anything. Or equally worse, we will be left to the vacuum of faceless, internet-based shopping with no one to answer questions.

First time in a hobbytown not impressed. Traxxas parts are hid behind a wall locked up went in to hand pick parts cant do that when everything is locked up. Staff seems to know it all I will stick to online shopping

Not a good Hobbytown. Reminds me of being in an old Toys R Us or KB Toys. Store is centered around buying a gift or toy for someone to unwrap and goes little to nowhere in maintaining or growing the hobby. Need a part? They don’t have it, but they can order it! Well, so can I...and cheaper. As a Horizon Hobby distributor...Zero Losi cars. The worst of the Horizon RC planes. Model rocketry has been relegated to a sad aisle of small scale (but still fun) starter or intermediate rockets. Model supplies are mediocre at best and the store manager the day I visited is a useless pile. Always amazes me how people get these jobs and know little about the product they are supposed to support. Better off doing your own research. Best of luck to the future customers.

I’m new to RC and the employees at HobbyTown informed me of everything that I would need to get started. The employees are very encouraging and even invited me to join them on their day off to race their personal cars so that they could give me tips and teach me. Superb customer service! Additionally I have of course asked numerous questions because I’m a newbie, and they never ever make me feel dumb for asking. They are patient and willing to explain. I appreciate that a lot. Their prices are on par with other hobby shops and online.Store follows social distancing rules and employees wear facemasks. Overall they are large contributors to making my new hobby amazing and fun!

Kind of limited on radio control. They try to have a little of everything which I understand. Very heavy into trucks which I guess thats where the money is. They also have small hobby things for children and light hobby stuff. Metal detectors, trains and small projects. Fun place to look around. Just wish it was a bigger store. Staff is usually helpful pending who is there and their expertise.

Don’t let all the reviews fool you people. If this was a true hobby store,the employees would make sure you know what you are about to get into and explain what you need to get started on your new hobby. Questions were asked and information was very limited. It seems that hobby town is only interested in taking your money. Unfortunately when you get home and try to put it together you can’t because you don’t have all the parts. They should be knowledgeable and experienced workers instead of fanboys.

The best spot for all hobbies, big ac planes, cars and gundams

Its a nice hobby shop. But remember its RC hobby grade stuff and this hobby can be complicated and expensive but thats the beauty of it for us that have been it for years. You have to know what you are doing. Its not a toy store where you buy a plane or truck and everything is always included. You may buy a plane that doesnt have everything you need to fly. Why? It is hobby grade and the hobbyist already have batteries, chargers and transmitter they use on many planes. They sell trucks that go 70mph, twin jet rc planes, and transmitters that are computerized which can be very complicated but like I stated thats the beauty.

I tried asking two different employees questions regarding RC cars today for my son and I. They made it seem like I was an inconvenience because I’m not an RC car enthusiast. Glad it’s 2020 and I can depend on Google to answer my questions inside a “hobby” store. I ended up purchasing an item based on Google reviews but won’t be coming back when my son and I want to upgrade. I hope this serves as a notice to potential customers that you better know what you want because god forbid if you ask any questions regarding their products...

I bought a new brushless motor combo from them. realised it had been used took it back got a refund The guy then told me he was going to take it home clean it up and resell it for a 3rd time. I will now by all my stuff Offline

One of the best hobby shops around. I was visiting from out of town, and if I could have taken some of these neat things on the airplane, I would have dropped good money here. The RC car section was very impressive. I saw items that I did not know even existed. Folks were very helpful too.

Cant even look at the stuff without some kid trying to sell me on yOu CaN gEt ThE tRuCk FoR 53$ I dont need your financing and got it shoved down my throat numerous times during my two visits. Just paid $1800 in that store July 5 2020. Purchased a xmaxx batteries, charger,a Traxxas summit, and batteries...xmaxx was fine but the summit was D.O.A. Of course I return to the store the next day after work since they have limited store hours and bring the truck in with me. I tell them the shift Servo is bad out of the box and the 2 steering servos are not working either. I didn’t even drive the truck 5 mins. Once I did get it to stock clicking and go into gear the car would not turn. So they tell me not to get it bound up.. I tell them I never even got to drive it. It was in the grass in my yard fresh. Long story short I’m told I can buy $140 worth of no name servo or I can call Traxxas and wait for replacements. Then they walk away with there everyday customers..then the everyday customer says he was here first should you help him. And the lady says I’m not looking at that truck... so I stand there for about 10 mins waiting for someone to say something then I get fed up and leave. At that point they ask do I want the servos? Absolutely not! Then I call Newport News and they tell me I could have left it there and they would have repaired it...well I’m homeNow that would have been nice to know when I was standing in the store it took me a hour to drive to. That they would replace and he said $30 a piece for labor. Well 60 sounds better than $140. And I never even was shown a Servo to fix the shifter. Today’s service was horrible, and I’ll never purchase from hobby town again.... man do I miss Debbies Rc. ☹️

Im not from the area but this is the best hobby shop Ive ever been to. All staff are friendly and helpful but the guy on the parts area is exceptional! Sorry I didnt got the chance to get your name Mr.Came there to get a pin screw for my UDR drive shaft, I guess they dont have it at that time. He grab his tool box and give me the part that i need for free. He even gave me an advice not to forget to put a loctite for not to loose the screw again! Thank you

Staff is always helpful no matter what your hobby is. I personally go there for r/c cars and they have a decent selection of parts and cars to choose from. They also have certain events hosted in back room from magic the gathering to drift races.

Went there looking for some stuff for my grandson for seven found some things for him prices are a little expensive but found what I wanted.

Thank you!!!I have to admit that despite the amazing reviews, my experience with this place was unacceptable. I’ve been a vb local for more than 10 years and have worked in retail for more than 13. After happily taking thousands of dollars from my husband over the last few weeks, this place refused to assist him when he returned with a defective battery, simply looking to exchange. I wish I could explain the reasoning behind this however, the manager couldn’t even be bothered to address us directly about the issue and rather spoke through his sales associate (who was incidentally very kind to us), so we didn’t even have the chance to ask questions to understand why we were being refused service. The most basic of expectations in any guest facing job is the level of service delivered to the guest. Forget shopping local, forget “really cool toys and accessories,” if you can’t be kind and take time to satisfy the needs of your guest, my husband and I will take our thousands of dollars elsewhere. What a shame, HobbyTown.

We like coming to this location for the different models. Mainly the robots but they have a wide variety, from trains, cars, to wooden and metallic vehicles and buildings. The staff has always been friendly and helpful and most are hobbyists themselves.

Came in there to find a unpopular Lionel train part. One of the staff members helped me find a comparable part (but not exactly). We discussed how it may not fit or work but that I would try the part out.I purchased it, tried to see if the part would fit, it did not.I brought the item back for return and was told they do not do returns on discounted and closeout items. I was informed THEN, that it was a closeout it and not eligible for a return.I wish this was disclosed to me before I purchased the part.They will no longer get my business.The staff was helpful and kind.The gentleman who refused my return was too cold, imo.

I told them about 6 times I’m new to rc I need help and nobody seemed to care. Also was told 2-3 weeks to put a spur gear in a truck I bought from them a week ago

I came here for the RC section of the store so I will be mostly commenting on that.Great people working here, the selection for RC car parts is pretty limited but understandable. They can usually get any part Amain carries next day or in a few days. Prices are pretty good too. They seemed to have a good selection of paints and painting supplies for both RC car bodies and more traditional models (also a great selection of 1/25th scale model car kits!)

I came in last week looking for supplies for an RC truck and the guy who helped me, Josh, really took the time to explain what i was getting and why, and helped me choose what would work best and even told me how to convert to a different sized tire. We happened to grab a set that did not work, and I brought them back the next day, and they made the exchange super quick and easy - and I was able to upgrade them to a much better set!The entire experience *could not* have been better, I was not once made to feel like I was silly for not knowing exactly what I wanted, and i learned so much!I will absolutely recommend HobbyTown to anyone I can, and would buy here as opposed to online whenever I can.Dont underestimate the brick and mortar stores. Their prices are very competitive and you get the personal touch and the education from people who work hard and have a wealth of knowledge that beats searching on Google and hoping you find your answers.

Clean and organized

This store is packed with everything I need for my drone. The customer service is top notch! My children like to browse through the toys and games that you cant find in most toy stores or major retailers. Store manager Josh is always available and very knowledgeable! If you need a source for all of you hobby needs this is the place!

Great selection of models and supplies. Its easy to spend a hour or more here. Unfortunately, there are some products I used to buy from them years ago that they no longer carry.Service is hit or miss. The employees are friendly, but there is one guy who tends to watch you from the other aisle as if you are thief ( at least it comes across that way). Sometimes the line moves very slowly

They are always willing to help me find a part and if they dont have it they provide other options if available or will order it in for me.I have been going to this store for about the last 2 years, some of the older reviews here mention rude staff but all those members I believe they are referencing are no longer there. This place is fantastic! My husband bought a model helicopter online while on deployment and didnt know the paint and tools were not included. I wanted to surprise my husband on his birthday with the things he needed to build the helicopter, so I called and gave them the model number of the kit, and the manager hand picked out everything I needed for me, without even me having to ask. Such a relief, because I dont know ANYTHING about that kind of stuff! (My son really loves their Lego items as well- HUGE variety) Ill never forget the experience I had with them, and Ill continue going

I stopped in last night to pick up some tires. I have spent more than a thousand dollars here in the past six months. Never a return. However, the condescending owner felt the need to lecture me on how to open the bag in case I bought the wrong item. Don’t need that in my life. They lost a good customer.

Friendly and helpful staff, there is a wide diversity hobbies that they carry. You could be a beginner or advanced. You could like small scape or honking big RC planes.

So I have to admit that going here I thought would be much more expensive because it is a hobby specific store. I was wrong. They had some kids slime that was $3 more at Barnes and Noble. Their store has such a variety of things that all 4 of my children were able to find something they were interested in. We stopped in specifically for BakuGan models and found they have quite an assortment of them and at great prices. Much cheaper than Barnes and Noble. Cheaper even than Amazon for the model my son was looking for. My kids are already planning a trip there next week. 😁
