3.5 stars. Came here on the recommendation from the Fish Market guys. Since it was a weekday lunch, we got seated immediately. Since it is located on the 2nd floor of the building, you can see the market and the water if you sit at the window. We got an appetizer and a main course to share. Food was good. The appetizer was hot smoker salmon with thin bread. The main course was a tomato based broth with seafood (clams, mussels, shrimp and fish) with pasta. The salmon was very very good. The bread was fresh, crunchy and tasty. The broth was definitely for 2 people, not one. We felt cheated a bit on the seafood contents because there was one shrimp and one small piece of fish. The bread accompanying it came with a mayo based sauce which was good.Place is kind of pricey. They add a 20% tip to the check and 60% of it goes to the server. That is a great idea. Just not sure about the 20%.Overall, decent food but would like to see more pieces of seafood in a plate thats supposed to be a seafood medley.

This was my second visit and it was quite impressive. Perhaps one of the better versions of a crab cake that I have ever had anywhere. The halibut was absolutely delicious. The location is amazing near Pike Place Market. Friendly service. Recommend highly if you are interested in delicious and freshly prepared seafood that are slightly priced higher than other options.

Smallest oysters I had in my life. Unbelievable, given that Seattle is known for its seafood. Grilled trout was alright but nothing fantastic. Pork loin was nicely done. Place was noisy and crowded. Average food, average service - and a 20% is automatically added to your bill for service charge.

Not a big fan of the automatic 20% service charge but service was not bad. The waiter took my kids incomplete meal without asking then tells me its my fault I didnt say anything despite he didnt even bother to ask. Nevertheless, another waiter was kind enough to bring a new cup of chowder as replacement.Mussels were good. Dungeness crab cake was small but good. Alaskan clam chowder was creamy and good. Grilled Alaskan Troll King Salmon was over cooked and the sauce does not compliment the salmon but rather overpower the taste. Tequila Lime Shrimp was good, not overcooked. Cheesecake was ok.

We ducked in to the Steelhead diner on a surprisingly sunny day in February, after rambling in a crowded Pike Place Market. The host was great, seating us near a window with a view of Post Alley and the Sound. Interesting Playlist, we liked it!, digging into the early 80s catalog. The Cioppino was a solid B/B+, great Brutus salad and nice wine list for a lunch menu. We were an even split in 3 vs. 4 star rating. The steak salads seemed to be too heavily dressed, and the fish and chips a bit heavy on the heavy on the breading. But the steak was perfect, and the fish fresh and tasty. What are you gonna do? One thing we agreed on, the acoustics are great! We could actually enjoy the meal and enjoy our conversation.

4/16/19: Went for dinner and had a nice experience. Service was prompt and friendly. Dishes ordered: gumbo, fried chicken, cioppino, burrata pasta, roasted vegetables, mac and cheese, and strawberry rhubarb tart.Dishes were larger than expected. Burrata was not as creamy as hoped and the roasted vegetables could have used a bit more seasoning although they were roasted nicely.Cioppino did not disappoint. Lots of seafood variety in a flavorful broth that tasted of the ocean. The fried chicken came with 4 pieces sitting in brown gravy topped with sauteed spinach. Very good. Fried light and crisp, batter not heavy, and meat tender. The gravy was a very nice compliment.Finished dinner with the strawberry rhubarb tart. Very refreshing. Not too sweet.

Upbeat relaxed atmosphere. Delicious eclectic menu including surf, turf, poultry, veganThe Steelhead Dinner offers a fantastic menu of one of a kind cocktails themed after northwest steelhead fishing flies. Theyre delicious! Prices are on the expensive side per plate with king salmon at 46 dollars excluding dinner salad. With views of Pike Place Market, Elliott Bay, the Olympic peninsula and post alley this place is location location location. The menu is served 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. which allows for transition from dinner into Seattle night life literally blocks away.Because of each menu item priced high I downgraded my 5 review to a 4.As an avid fisherman and foodie I know food prices. They are priced on the steep side. However, the food is masterfully prepared, presented, and taste is amazing.I will definitely be visiting again soon

I am mixed on my review because I think they could have received much higher marks. They were very busy which offered a great suggestion that the food was going to be excellent; however things started off a little poorly with choppy service filled with long delays and needed requests for drinks, bread, cutlery and refills. Things unfortunately turned more unpleasant when we discovered the fountain drinks were extremely odd tasting (both the diet Coke and Sprite)....and supposedly other customers made the same complaint. My daughters entree was delivered without the main protein and the flavors of both our dishes were oddly bland with no bright notes, one toned flavors and definitely no sense of umami. Desserts were so close to being really good but the crust recipe on the pecan pie was again bland and was overcooked which created a pretty inedible experience as the crust shell was really hard to break through. I believe the the most difficult thing to swallow was that they only offered half-off the price of the missing protein entree and Steelhead Diner definitely has a more pricey menu. Now, onto what I really enjoyed: they have so much potential between the location (right by the pikes place market), the decor of the restaurant is fantastic, an upbeat environment, and there is a nice menu selection. I would like to give them another shot when I visit Washington again someday, but as the menu and the prices stand: it would likely not be on my higher priority list.

Steelhead Diner is a good place to eat a bit of a fancier meal, but a nice hidden gem in Post Alley. It has decent prices for being near Pike Place Market, but their food is delicious. A lot of the appetizers are amazing, which we usually fill up on. Their drink pours are average, so dont come here to get drunk, but to casually have a drink with dinner. Servers are very nice. You are greeted when you enter and as you leave. Friendly, stylish, upbeat atmosphere. Food...hmmm. Was it bad? No. Thoughts...food, good food is passion, its a love affair with the earth and all the goodies she has to offer. Not bad food may have started out with good intentions but for whatever reasons the vision of good/great food has been set aside. A menu in my opinion should tell a story that is memorable and easily retold. I am not putting the restaurant down. I want to be part of keeping the restaurant up.

I want to give this 4 stars but here’s the straight scoop...Nice looking place...Spotlessly clean...Good service...Where it falls short is the food. After two visits - with appetizers - salads - entrees - I’d say tge food is mediocre. This place strikes me as a slick place next to the big tourist attraction. It has great eye candy appeal and so what food. The bar is solid so if you’re having an evening with friends over drinks.I won’t be returning...there are other choices in the area that are better.

This is just another seafood cafe/restaurant that sells mediocre fried fish at a high price. Recently tried the fried cod with french fries. The batter was heavy and greasy, the fries were ordinary fries. I removed most of the batter as it was too grease laden to eat. The attraction here is that it is close to the Pike Place Market and has a flashy sign out front to attract the flocks of tourists. On top of the blah food this place automatically adds a 20% tip to the tab. So whether the service is good or poor one is stuck with the 20% tip. I totally disagree with establishments automatically adding a tip percentage to the tab. Let the customer determine the appropriate tip % based upon the service received. My wife and I will not return to this place as there are many, many seafood restaurants in Seattle with better food and who do not charge 20% tip automatically.

Attractive space and a nice location, but very average food in Seattle at that price point. We mainly selected this restaurant because it was downtown and near light rail, plus we could point out some sites to a visitor from out of town. The service was very prompt (seemed like they wanted to turn over tables quickly), which could be a positive or a negative depending on the occasion. So, nothing negative at all, just not a memorable meal. Because it offers certain convenience factors, I can imagine returning again in the future.

Could they have offered a gluten-free burger roll and sold it as Gluten-friendly if they didnt have a specific gluten-free preparation area for it?Im not the expert and havent taken out much in WA before, maybe different states have different guidelines?Service was good and overall we enjoyed our meal.

Ok. Let’s talk. If you follow my reviews you know I don’t hold back when anything is out of sorts. Admittedly, I’m a tough sort to please. I have been in the restaurant industry far too long to apologize for my passion for food and service. It bothers me when restaurants and their management lack sufficient passion for their products and offerings. I always say, when I finish those reviews, “would I go back?” The answer for Steelhead is, an absolute yes!!I was asked last night by a student. “Chef, what’s the best restaurant you’ve experienced since moving to Seattle?” In all fairness, I won’t have an answer until I’m 500 pounds and have dined at them all. But, so far, Steelhead is a must dine in the Emerald City. Give it a try. Let me know if you had as great an experience as we did. All preparations are extraordinary and done with thought and care. Pricing is fair. The wine list doesn’t disappoint! Try it. Enjoy it.
