The staff there were predatory selling inventory without answering any questions from customers. 1 gentleman who came in with his lady friend got made fun of for using steel cased ammo. Very unprofessional and rude

First time at a range and I’m clearly new. Brought my AR and 2 glocks. Very helpful in explaining the rules. Can’t shoot the AR there unless you’re a member but shot my glock and it was great.

Been shopping here since I was old enough to buy long guns (18) and Im now a few months from 36. They are all very knowledgeable and willing to make sure you get the firearm that fits your needs.

Hubbs and I are novices with guns. We went yesterday to shoot and was very pleased with the level of professionalism. Robbie took about an hour telling us about our guns (one was new and we really didnt even know how to load it), how to safely handle, and suggested items to make loading the magazine easier. Robbie was great. We will go back.

My 1st time at a personal defense business. I had a lot of anxious feelings about what was going to happen. My nerves were quickly calmed by the knowledgeable staff. They were very clear explaining everything from all aspects of safety to the different types of guns we were going to use. Extremely patient with our group of newbies. Very informative & helpful staff!

Gene was so helpful & very patient with me in the beginning. He took his time to make sure that I understood everything. He also help me choose 1 of 2 handguns I purchased. The rest of the guys are so friendly that we (2 of my girlfriends & me) feel like family when we go to target shoot. I would highly recommend them to everyone!

Went in only having been to a range once before, first thing I had to do was take a short test, after the test they gave me a range card which look to be good forever.The lanes were cheap to rent, at 20 dollars for as much as you can shoot, they were a bit short at 18 yards, but perfect for a pistol range.You do have to use there targets so keep that in minds, however they have cheap targets readily available.The range officers are friendly, would recommend coming for the range.They don’t have a lot of guns to buy, but what they do have looks to be all quality guns

Visited this establishment recently and was not even acknowledged, despite the store being TINY and the workers clearly seeing us standing there waiting to be helped. Guess this shouldn’t come as a surprise since there is a HUGE Trump flag on the wall. Clearly we were not welcome. People that came in after us were immediately greeted and assisted. We walked out and will NEVER return.

A group of friends and I went in today. The customer service was great! Everyone on staff was knowledgeable and helpful. One member of the team, Tim, was an exceptional help. We had a few reminders that were necessary and he was helpful and gentle in his reminders about gun safety. They have everything you need for target practice. We will return soon.

This shop offers a good selection of guns, ammo and accessories both in store and online. Additionally, they offer concealed carry classes, one on one instruction, and an in house shooting range. The staff are professional and knowledgeable. We worked with Rick, who was more than willing to answer our questions and to educate us. Their pricing is fair and we will certainly be return customers!

Im brand new to the world of firearms and gun ranges, and after taking a couple of classes at the Wake County Firearms Education center, I was ready for a change of scenery.Since I work from home and my schedule is flexible, the daytime hours of PD&HSC are VERY convenient. Additionally, the location (just 1.5 miles south of the Raleigh beltline) provides easy access - no need for driving way out into the boondocks.After reviewing all of the safety rules and passing the written test, I was on the range in no time to sight in a Red Dot optic. My AR is new, and I had some trouble with spent cartridges not ejecting properly. One of the guys on staff took the time to come out on the range and work through the issue with me. Problem solved.I really liked the fact that the range is always hot with no down time and that I could work at my own pace.Finally, the gun shop is very well stocked with an excellent selection of guns, ammunition and accessories.All in all, I think that anyone interested in shooting will be pleased with PD&HSC...I know Ill be back!

Came here to take CC classes and very much enjoyed it. During my final testing, it took longer than normal for my instructor to meet me. I didnt mind but he graciously gave me a free pass to use the range on another day. Helpful crew and good spot to shoot.

We have been going to Personal Defense for years. They have been our go-to practice facility for a long time. Weve received considerable advice and instruction that has been invaluable. And we have bought, sold and traded a few Firearms along the way as well. We highly recommend the team at Personal Defense!

I really strongly dislike giving a range a poor review, but this range warrants one. The range itself has moldy carpets carpeting along the floors and ceiling, and I seriously doubt the range even goes back the fifteen yards it claims.The range officers, if they can be called that, paid absolutely no attention to what was going on in the range. I know this due to the complete lack of safety observed by the other patrons. Racking the slide to the side, handing loaded guns back and forth, and none of it called out upon by the staff. I know this is partially our responsibility to report, but I would have literally had to point my finger at almost every other person there.There was no introduction by either video or staff. The only thing qualifying us to shoot there was a joke of a test that, at times, prompted people the right answers.The prices were high, not unreasonably so if this was a well maintained range, but this place was not even adequately maintained. They didnt even have lead removing soap or wipes. I seriously doubt they had a proper air filtration system.The only nice thing I can say about this place is that the selection of firearms to purchase was excellent.I have literally never left a bad review of a range, but I felt people should be warned of this place. A gun range is not a business to be taken lightly. This place is quite truly the worst range Ive ever stepped foot in. Theres enough bad stigma surrounding gun owners as is, and this place and others like it only fuel that fire.

I took a handgun safety class at PD (taught by Chris Tilley) a couple years ago and after a couple of trips to the range I got a membership. Love it. The owners and staff are great (knowledgeable, professional and courteous). I took my Conceal Carry class with them and will probably take more classes there as time and money allow. I like to take my friends to PD so that they can learn firearm safety and have fun shooting. (My friends always want to go back.)

My daughter and I went to practice shoot and we had a better overall experience than we expected. We both had never fired a handgun before and were apprehensive about going into a gun shop to shoot. We were greeting immediately and given the safety rules of the shop and range. We were accompanied into the range and given full instructions on using our guns and the safety of using the guns. We fired about 100 rounds between us it and it a great experience. I have now purchased my own gun and this is the place for me and I certainly appreciate the Christian attitude of the employees and the exhibit of Christian material in the store. Thanks you guys for making me feel very comfortable with my experience.

Fun place to learn how to shoot properly and improve your skills. They put safety first and watch that you are following the rules exactly. Also, the range is very reasonably priced. I would recommend to anyone looking somewhere to shoot regularly.

Store Policy is they wont sell rifles to persons under 21, even when this kid showed a military ID to the store rep. So not only is this not a required by law but to do it to a member of our military? You couldnt pay me to shop here after witnessing that in line.

Not a very family friendly shooting range. Of the two times I have been there they have looked down on me because of my young age. The last time I tried to shoot there they wouldnt let me shoot even though I had a guardian that technically met all their there requirements. Person who was going to rent the gun and buy the ammunition had never fired a pistol before and thus the guy decided that he didnt want us to shoot, even though we did everything right to qualify under their rules to shoot. Id rather go to the wake county range where I am treated nicely and Im not looked down on for my age.

Ive read some mixed reviews about this place, but Ive had nothing but good experiences. After a few visits Ive found the staff to be friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Im new to shooting, but it seems like they have a good selection of firearms; I appreciate being able to hold a gun that Ive only read about. Im also a fan of the unlimited range time. I go during the week and can have a lane for as long as I want. Cant get better if you dont invest some time practicing.All in all, I really like the place.

A while back I went to this place. Ill also state that I drove over 30 mins to get here. This place was the first gun range I ever walked into. When I asked about renting a lane I was asked if I shot before. I said no. Then I was told I couldnt shoot here because I had never shot guns before. I said ok and promptly left. Ive now been to every gun range in Raleigh multiple times. Ive never had any other place ask me anything remotely similar to that. Im not going to speculate why they asked that or why they didnt want to rent me a lane but were clearly renting a lane to 3 lighter individuals who clearly had also not shot guns before based on the convo I overheard while i was waiting to have my extra brief convo with the clerk. Either way there are far better options available. I highly doubt Ill ever walk into this place again.

Went there today to pick up a purchase. Young man charged me a fee for the paper work which i wasnt aware of, no problem. I looked at some things in the store and then left. As I was about to pull off the young man ran outside and flag me down. He told me that he had accidentally charged me a fee that he didnt have to because I made sn online purchase from their store. It might not sound like a big deal to most but this man actually took time to look over his paperwork thoroughly and came to catch me to make sure he correct the wrong. That says a lot about his character and the people that work at this place. The way things are in this day and time to have people who are upstanding like that sure makes you feel good. I appreciate the guys there and their work. I had to share this!

Too expensive. Too restrictive.$20 a person is a lot of money.Group of 4 people. Brought our own guns, own ammo, and own eye/ear pro. Werent in there for more than 30mins.Ended up being almost $90 total. Not planning on coming back.

I went in to ask some questions and gather information for an upcoming purchase. The staff was outstanding and very patient and helpful. At no time was I treated any differently than the more experienced patrons. I did make a purchase and will make additional purchases with them.There is only one other place I have been where I would return. Personal Defense has me as a customer for sure.Very knowledgeable and not out to sell you the hot new thing but rather listen to you and help you make the right choice.

Dont let the negative reviews drive you away. I stopped over to checkout the range and was treated promptly, given the safety evaluation, and was happy with the indoor range and responsive staff. I will be back.

I was talked down to because Im female, obviously under 40, or because I admitted Ive never shot at a range before (would not be the first time shooting guns but Im specifically in the market for one of several that were available to rent). I went to take the safety quiz due to not having shot there before (and let me tell you, its very basic with a lot of the answers already pointed out) and heard a man getting told to fill out the quiz too that was actually spoken to respectfully and informatively (hed never shot there either) by the same employee who spoke down to me. Needless to say, I walked out after that and will not be returning. A shame because a coworker who frequents there highly recommended I go to PDHSC despite mixed online reviews and employees of other area stores telling me to avoid them.

My wife and I visited this gun store about a week or so ago. I was excited to visit this store as they had the gun I wanted in stock and have an indoor range. Unfortunately, when we visited the store we didnt have a good experience and didnt think we would return. After reading the other reviews, I am thankful we didnt purchase from them. God only knows what it would have been like dealing with them had we purchased from them and had a problem. We ended up buying the same gun for $100 less at Jims Gun Shop. Do yourself a favor, and give Jim a call.

Place is really in decline. Both facilities and people working there.1. This place is in a real sketch part of town.2. As soon as you drive in the place, watch our for the pot-holes in the parking lot. This really says a lot about how they keep up the place.3. They try not to honor prices on their web-site (which by the way, has mis-spellings for their address).4. Rude staff - they really dont care if you are there. They look at each person as if they plan to hold up the place. People working there really need a mental test. Especially the older man and woman working there.5. Range is in terrible shape. No ventilation. Carpet worn. Need to have the state come in and take lead readings.6. Prices are not that great, compared to other stores and the internet.7. Takes for ever to get a response from emails (if they respond at all). Never responded about membership I paid for. Had to go in to see if it was ready. Never responded to inquires for classes.I gave an extra star because there are a couple people working there that actually smile at the customers and try to help.Go somewhere else. There are plenty of gun stores, both small and large.For shooting, there are a number of alternatives: Indoor as well as outdoor ranges.

I truly enjoyed my Handgun class. Chris Tilley was such a good instructor and had a very engaging and enjoyable personality! I learned a lot in the class and loved being able to shoot a variety of handguns. As for the facility itself and the people who work there, again I was very pleased. Those who work there were friendly and outgoing. Great place.

My husband & I frequently go to Personal Defense and prefer it over the other ranges in the area. The staff at PDHSC is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They have a good selection of new and used guns and the prices are competative. We prefer the range too. It has a really good ventilation system, is bright and has tables at the back of the lanes so you have somewhere to put your gear. The instructor for their Concealed Carry class, Steve Johnson, is excellent. Plus your shooting qualification is done inside at the range and can be done before the classroom part.

Anyone who gives this place a good rating has clearly never been to another gun store. Rude staff. And when I say rude, I mean I felt like a criminal or a scumbag walking around in their store, and Im an extremely clean cut individual. Dont know if this place is an old boys club type of place or they dont like those who look like they may work for the government, but Ill never give it another shot, and I suggest you dont waste your time.

It is what it is. If u go in and its not ridiculously packed its a good place to go and shoot guns. Prices arent ridiculous, staff is usually friendly, and there is enough room to do what ur gonna do. We had a smaller gun shop where we moved here from and as always in small towns the people were nicer and the place was cleaner, but im not complaining. The range served its purpose.

I shoot here all the time until today. Today, On who knows what basis(age? ,etc doesnt matter), they assumed I didnt know how to shoot, said that im incapable of teaching my friends how to shoot and made me prove to them how to unload a handgun like really? and then he says the fact that you say you have a ccw means you definitely do not have experience. Great range, great selection on guns but because of that they lost a customer.

I absolutely LOVE this place. Im a brand new shooter. I never thought Id feel so comfortable in a room full of firearms! I took my first handgun class with Chris Tilley, and I truly enjoyed it. He was extremely patient and thorough. I learned more than I every imagined. All of the staff are extremely warm, nice and welcoming. They are also knowledgeable and patient... feels like family! My husband and I will soon become regulars, for sure.

I went to this range about 6 months ago to shoot my 22lr ar and decided to try out a rental Glock23. For someone like myself a predominantly rifle shooter I was greatful for all the little tips they offered to help improve my handgun accuracy. I plan on returning to this location in the near future to purchase a handgun.

I been to this place a few times some of the people are okay and professional but it was this one man in there older man who was very rude i was coming to pick up a firearm i had order online i gave him my pistol permit i had sign some papers i had missed one section by mistake he got sorta got rude and the manner in his tone of voice his face had turned red i dont know if he is prejudice towards african americans but when i dealt with the others that work there i didnt get that from them i only seen this man once

When I see all Excellent ratings across a review I ignore it. Could easily have been submitted by an owner or employees. I also ignore reviews that have all Poor ratings. Could have been submitted by a competitor, disgruntled employee, etc. Very, very few places are totally wonderful or totally awful. My take on PDHSC is very mixed. They have a good selection of handguns, not the lowest prices in town, but not the highest either. If they sell out of a model, they usually have more in within a few days. The store is cramped, often times making it difficult to look at all their guns. My first couple of visits, I was waited on by a friendly and helpful young man. I bought a handgun from him. Other personnel, however, are not so friendly or helpful. Some of them, especially if you are using the range, can actually be hostile. I noted with interest some of the other reviews that mentioned they behaved as if women didnt belong there, and that is the way a few of the employees, not all, made me feel. This business is small enough that the owners ought to have some idea of how their employees conduct themselves. Most gun stores dont seem to realize that when the political winds change (and they will), the current gun fever is going to subside somewhat, and they wont have the flood of customers that they now enjoy. Many people have long enough memories to remember who treated them well and who didnt. If youre in the market for a gun youd like to have, I would recommend that you go to PDHSC and check out their selection. Chances are they have it or can get it for you. I just dont recommend you shoot at their range, especially if youre a woman.

Thought it was time to re-review PDHSC, as I was there shooting today. I shot for ~1 hour and paid 21$ including tax. I was greeted cordially and was on the range in no time. Yes, the carpeting is a bit worn and people have shot in the ceiling....this is a gun range, not a fern bar. Im not paying for decor, Im paying for the facility and the convenience, both of which I rate highly. PDHSC is usually busy, and they certainly were today.They have a lot of customers because they keep their customers happy and provide a convenient service in the Raleigh area. Lots of first time shooters today, of all age groups, genders and ethnicity if that matters to you. By the way, gun prices are quite reasonable and they carry Hoppes car air fresheners for the mirror of your vehicle ...

One of the best gun stores and indoor ranges in central NC. The place has a great staff and selection. Also, runs multiple different shooting courses to include basic pistol marksmanship and Concealed Carry courses.

These people are rude as hell. I am a vet and the guy thought it would be funny to talk to my girlfriend like a lowly piece of meat. His jokes were tasteless and rude which include the guy saying this to my girlfriend repetedly, Where are you going with that big pistol sweet cheeks? Your boyfriend is the only one who needs to shoot.The prices are marked up way over MSRP and the range looks like one stray bullet could knock the place over.There are other, better ranges that do not gouge their customers.

Never again will i Purchase a firearm here at Personal defense. After purchasing countless firearms here for my bail bonding agents to perform CE i had a name change for religious reasons. After giving me a hard about my name change salesman Robbie seemed to be reluctant to sale me the firearm. So after i provided all legal documentarion and Identification required by ATF he sold me the firearm. Weeks went by and i purchased several more firearms from personal defense under my new name with different salesman. Today i come in hoping to be in and out as usual mr Robbie once again seemed to have every reason as to why he couldnt sell me the firearm after speaking with the owner whi was very cooperative he instructed Robbie to sale me the firearm. Lol. After pkaying with his keyboard for 20 minutes he tells me the system is delayed and would get bk to me in a few days. Right.! Not sure whether it is becaue i am african american or because i am an African American Muslim but its sad the way they conducted business change with my name

I took the handgun class here. Having never picked up a handgun before the class I was very apprehensive but the instructor and his wife were so helpful and understanding...this was a great class and I am so glad that I took this class here!

I was given a years membership as a gift and have thoroughly used it, shooting on average once every two weeks. The range is not huge - 6 lanes out to 15 yards or so with powered target hangers. It has been well shot, but everything works as it should. Ventilation is powerful. My wife and I usually go in the evening and have never had to wait. The staff is always friendly. I shot at the wake county range for years, my wife found it intimidating but she enjoys going to PDHSC. I have done three transfers and purchased one weapon. No issues, they even post their FFL online to make it easy for you arrange the transfer without having to call. Their prices are fair, do your research and youll find some deals. You can always negotiate if you feel they are high. It can get expensive but you can get a year of half price range time for $60. Every other range in the area charges the same rate but here they dont charge for your range card. TSA charges $15 per person per year just for access.

Bottom line I didnt feel like my business was appreciated.

We signed up for a membership after a couple of trips to the range. When we had our safety orentation, the guy was really nice and helpful. Didnt talk down to us and really knew his stuff. We took our CCW class though these guys and it was an excellent experience. I cant say enough good about the class and the instructor (Steve Johnson). I would take another defense class from him if he offered them, but alas he doesnt.PDHC has been a great place to get started with handguns in NC.

I purchased a membership some time ago and have been a regular at this range. I have looked past the terrible range conditions, and condesending employees for far too long. I reached my degradation limit today after being belittled by an older gentlemen who works there concerning some confusion on my part. Totally unprofessional and uncalled for. I had blown off past instances of unprofessionalism and down right disrespect by another employee (another older gentlemen) who told my family I didnt know what I was talking about in regard to the initial written test. This was while I was not present and my wife and daughter did not tell me until we made it home.

The range is very small and not well kept. The equipment is run down and there is very little room for you load your weapons. The staff is very rude and could care less about the customers. If im there to spend my money at least act like you want it. I would never go yo this range again. This place suck!

Prices are high, range fills up way to fast and the last two times I was there I got a ricochet off the back berm. It has a good selection of firearms, but the prices are marked way up.
