Sure, they have pretty much everything, and being able to try the lights out in-store is useful. However, the people who work there are incredibly condescending and unhelpful. I wish they would sell to someone who had a greater interest in customer service.

I know what negative charges look like, and I have yet to see this credit she speaks of. Do yourself a favor and save some money. Buy the same thing many other places. Do not shop here. The owner makes you say your pin number out loud for the whole store to hear. She does not understand technology or how to use a card reader. This woman charged us 3 times for 1 purchase. She was condescending when we explained the situation and would not work with us. Also everything sold at this store cost less at other retailers even other local stores.

They were so helpful on the phone, and when I mentioned that Id come down, they had it waiting for me. Who does that? Super fun place. Lovely owner.

Sunlan Lighting a tiny little shop packed to the rafters with every kind of lighting supplies you can imagine. And, a lot that you didnt know existed!My daughter bought a lamp while working in Bahrain. The man that sold it to her said it takes a European style bulb.After going to a dozen different lighting store someone told me to go to The Light Bulb Lady and gave me a business card for Sunlan Lighting.When I got there it was an amazing sight. The light bulb lady was at her seat by the front door helping a man with parts for an old lamp.The other employee was back further in the store. He asked if he could help me. I showed him the lamp and he took me to a little shelf on the end of an aisle with a bunch of little baskets, boxes, and bins and showed me the different shapes, sizes, and wattages they had.No other shops in the Portland area had any of this type of bulb. Sunlan Lighting had more than a dozen varieties!If you have any unusual lighting needs save yourself some time and go straight to Sunlan Lighting.And, on my way out the light bulb lady gave me a couple of cartoons that she had drawn along with my receipt!Awesome place!

A Portland gem. If you ever buy a light bulb (and who doesnt?), take the time to make your purchase at Sunlan. A small business with the BEST CoVid handling procedures Ive ever seen, for one. But pandemic or not, stop by to brighten up your day with some wacky bulbs and some whimsy cartoons! We will certainly be back around Christmas for some fancy, old school bubbling lamps. The place is extremely crowded with no social distancing. Blatantly violating pandemic protocols. Every other store on Mississippi is respecting these except Sunlan.

There are big box stores with everything, and there are small stores which do one thing well. Sunlan does light bulbs. If it flows they stock it or can get it. They know everything about their subject. Thats pretty much all you need to knowml.

Sunlan was the end of a long and fruitless search for a under-counter florescent lamp tube that should not have been this hard to find. Several major big box outlets offered to order them for me if I took 10 or more. At Sunlan the staff was quite knowledgeable and were not befuddled in the least by my request. Odd , quirky refreshingly competent, and well stocked. A real find. Next time I am going back just to browse and talk to the staff.

I love shopping at Sunlan. They had light bulbs for an antique fixture I couldn’t find anywhere else, unique Christmas lights and bulbs that increase visibility when I read. It’s a unique , family owned store that can’t be beat.

This place is awesome for lighting needs, we got bulbs for way less than what they wanted online, after hours of searching online heading down to this place was best choice. Light bulbs we got were for overhead stove. But theyll find whatever you are looking for.

This quirky store is a Portland icon. If they don’t have the light bulb you need it probably isn’t made any more.I purchased two LED bulbs, a 9 and a 15W for $20. Very good prices.

I went to two different stores with no luck until someone recommended Sunlan Lighting to me. I went in today and Robert helped me and got me the right bulb in less than 2 minutes. I found him to be VERY pleasant and VERY helpful! The store itself a pure old style Portland. This place is meant to be visited. It has more different kinds of bulbs than any place Ive ever seen. The human beings who work here know what theyre doing thank goodness, because like people, light bulbs are also very diverse. :-)

💎 gem of a place! The light bulb store version of Dr Who’s Time traveling Tardis. I wAndered into their 2500 sq ft showroom about two years ago while in town for the week & was amazed at what I had stumbled upon. Has an old school hardware store feel, plenty of history. They have an eclectic array of modern energy efficient led (Not so interesting) + high quality spiral & double helix filament bulbs (Very interesting) ranging from little 2” night lights to these hot air ballon shaped behemoths that have to be well over 12”! All sold individually or mounted on a Marble base with hand turned dimmer switches. Friendly no nonsense shop keep last I was there:) Wish we had a place like this here in NH...

The staff was very informative and helpful. The variety was nuts how much they have in stock. I loved the whole store and wandering through admiring all of the different styles of lighting and fixtures.

Staff is very helpful and friendly, plus they distribute diodeled products.. most of which are great options for just about any application. Theyve shared lots of great lighting knowledge with me each time Ive been in there.

This place has any lightbulb you could ever imagine. The lady/owner is a little quirky but very friendly & knowledgeable. This is the place to go if youre looking for a specific lightbulb.

These folks were recommended to me as being very knowledgeable. I called and asked for a 24 T8 bulb with the highest level of lumens they had. They didnt know about lumens because they couldnt find it printed on the package. I had to explain what a lumen was (a.k.a., brightness) Really? Talk about a dim bulb.

Delightful..........Simply DELIGHTFUL!!! Kay is a wonderful person to chat with, as she is quite sociable and knowledgeable about her business and presumably the neighborhood as well. It is not often one can enjoy a business that has all the charm of a 19th century company. The difference is this one has electricity and light bulbs.Have you ever seen a business with NO customer waiting area, and inventory stocked higher than you can reach, and unseen levels/floors that are expediently accessed by able and thoughtful employees. There is virtually no unused space in this building, and customers have to patiently step aside to allow others to pass down the narrow isles. While waiting to pay, ones eyes can peruse the shelves filled with examples of lighting seldom seen. If you want to see unusual (in some cases it would be appropriate to say weird) and strange lights, why bother to look on the Internet....if you live near Portland, drop by and visit a true icon of the modern age of the electric light bulb!

This place is full of light bulb experts. The light bulb lady is super sweet, and while everyone does seem a little crazy, they will take care of your lighting needs and then some.

I called and asked some very basic questions and Spoke to Robert. He was very condescending as if I was supposed to know all about the wattage and what they looked like. He told he it was not his job to tell me what they looked like. They are a brick and mortar store and do not ship or fed ex. That is ok with us but I was simply asking for help for specific bulbs for new lights and read him the specs of the bulbs. I would not recommend Robert or this place. I would try amazon.. Sad that old fashion customer service is going away.

I was in the market for some decorative Edison bulbs and that’s usually the kind of thing to get on-line if you want any kind of selection, but I prefer to shop local brick and mortar whenever possible and since I had walked past this place many times, just from the windows I could see it was very obviously a light bulb extravaganza, so I thought I’d try looking here first.The first impression was a friendly and adorably corny greeting by the woman behind the counter. I told her what I was looking for and she pointed me to the MULTIPLE isles of the different types of Edison bulbs they carried. The place has cramped isles that felt like an old fashioned “five and dime” store with shelves packed neatly full of merchandise, with many of the bulbs plugged in and glowing, so you could actually see how they light up, which was VERY useful. The selection was unbelievable and the only complaint I had was that the great selection made deciding so difficult.I didn’t venture too much further into the store, but I can’t imagine they wouldn’t have any possible specialty lightbulb you could possibly need. While I was paying for my selection, the woman told me to take one of her drawings that she made of lightbulb cartoons (the one I chose was hand colored) and it was just the icing on the cake of this very distinct, unusual and special place. It’s unique little shops like this that make me happy about shopping local.I love this store!

This place is epic. What? You need the original light bulb designed by Thomas Edison. It is probably on the shelf :). Staff is knowledgeable and very helpful, without being pushy. Every kind of light bulb you could imagine (and someone did) you will find on the endless shelves.

This place is classic old Portland; their motto should be keeping Portland real, one bulb at a time. Any bulb or lighting need you have can be solved at Sunlan. That, plus the revolving window display, are like something out of a G-rated John Waterss Baltimore, if such a thing were possible.

So SunLan has incredible window displays(sometimes. Other times theyre really, really weird), and an extremely well-thought out and comprehensive selection of light bulbs.But the woman who owns it is downright batty. Shes not mean, or rude, at all, but she says really off the wall things. Its sort of charming, actually. She definitely lends a certain flavor to the shop.Mississippi Ave. is probably my favorite shopping district in all ove Portland. Ive visited probably every shop on the street, except SunLan, until last week.I went in because I was looking for the tres-chic Edison bulbs every designer is raving about at the moment.Side note: This vintage-industrial-retro-modern-shabby-chic movement is really going to be something were going to regret in about 5 years, I swear...But I digress, so I found the Edison bulbs and about a billion other similar bulbs (Marconi bulbs, anyone? Star bulbs? Star of David bulbs? Yes, I bought all of those. Its almost HANUKKAH!) as well.The woman at the very...er...cozy checkout counter was dealing with, and summarily dismissing the customers in line in front of us like a weathered schoolmarm dealing with truant fifth graders. I think she might have even slapped one with a ruler after taking his cash. Im not positive.Anyhow, Ill go back, if I need more wacky lightbulbs. Seriously, I dont know how you could find these lightbulbs, otherwise, I couldnt even Google half the ones I saw. That means theyre either mythical, or very, very unique. Im going to decide on the former, and wager theyre mythological light bulbs, guarded by the dragon at the door.Beware!

More like a store in France portrayed in Hollywood. With that. You have to understand that this store is not like other stores. What I really like is that when I go in, no matter how long I stayed to look at everything the store had, I did not once feel like I was Pressured into buying anything. It Kind of weird going to a small store and not feeling that pressure to purchase something. You also dont get that I am being watched feeling either. Its remarkable really for such a small store. Whats more to like is that the store has all the stuff that most stores keep behind the counter, right up front where you can stare and compare. Most people going to auto parts stores will understand what I am saying. Now for light selection in the store, it is almost as good as the internet gets. And really, the stuff at the store is not that bad for price. Yea, It;s no Walmart or Fleabay, Its more like going into a Barnes and Noble.As far as service, the Buzz is true about how she can be a bit ruff with her demeanor. Just imagine that you are in the Movie Amiele and she is that lady that sells smokes at the cafe that Amelie works in. :-) I have waited along time for service as well. So I just looked around more to pass the time. And I understand why she does this. People are in way to often of a hurry. If you slow down and stop all that multitask business, life oddly gets sweeter. You know, I did not know why I was in such a rush in the first place. SO a word of caution, plan on at least 3 hours of your day to spend in the store. Think of it like a free college class on lighting. I think she has a few books on the subject their, I cant recall if I saw them for sure or not.Thanks to her, I really got into lighting. And not just the new LED fad, but really on how to use the lighting to make my life better. The odd thing is that some of the best lights you can use cost a whole buck for a 4 pack. Yea, they dont last long. Or very energy Frugal. What I learned was that these cheap light sources are some of the best light you can get. The warm glow and ability to dim the light to your needs really makes a difference. I may not have saved a dime on my energy bill. Thats ok. I feel like I have a million bucks when I get home. Even my family/Friends know me as the person who Loves lights . And I truly have to thank her for that. And Willamette Weekly for doing a story on her.Thanks to places like this, that side of Portland has seen some real rejuvenation and is a nice place to visit now thanks to some very Happy people. :-) Thank you Happy People
