The gelato was probably some of the best in Portland. The lady who was behind the counter was really nice, and for the price the portions were really good. The espresso gelato was absolutely amazing!

Always desperate to find reliable gelato! And I’ll go out of the way for it, too. This place has delicious gelato and friendly service... just what I was looking for on an unseasonable hot spring day!!

We ordered two cups of gelato, one scoop and a double scoop. When we got our ice cream we actually thought it was a joke. They gave us golf ball size scoops and charge $7 for both. Could’ve gone to the store and gotten a pint for less than we paid... Not only was it extremely expensive for what it is, the server was rude and kept glaring us down. Will never come here again. Ice cream wasn’t even that good.

We really enjoyed getting a quick scoop here after dinner one night. They have some good options and everything is tasty. You can even get two half scoops, so you can try more flavors without getting more than you want to eat. The area is great to walk around, the shop is pretty small, but there are some tables if you want to relax and enjoy it there.

I would rather stand in salt and straws line to get better ice cream. I got the peanut butter one scoop which is really a big scoop unlike salt and straws. The waffle cone is so yummy but the gelato was not something too special!

Such rich gelato. Always delicious and I get the seasonal fruit and chocolate. A great option if you dont want to wait in the salt and straw 1hr line for your ice cream scoop.

Writing this negative review will be a sweet pleasure after the rip off we just experienced. Paid $3, tipped $1, got 2oz of gelato. Told the server it was very little and she said thats the size. True? Who knows. The gelato is not bad - not great - but what a rip off.

If you want really good gelato with out the salad dressing poured on top, then this is the place for you. If your into waiting in long lines for something you could easily make at home, then you should look else where. Authenticity just isnt for you at this point.

I had to change my five stars 2 years old review to three only. The pistachio flavor has been replaced with a clumsy marzipan or something that is similar and its never the same. You can slowly increase the price, but never risk the quality...

I got a split scoop of hazulnet and chocolate which was amazing! I tried the Black Forest Chocolate which was not so good because I didnt like the after taste of cherry. My girlfriend got the mango passion sorbetto which was intense mango, a bit too intense. But she paired it with green apple and really like it. The single split scoops were under $4 each!

Walked in because line at salt & straw was too long. When I asked which flavors were gluten free I was told none. Really? Gelato? I assumed the kid didnt know what I was talking about but he made a reference to someone else saying it and basically they wouldnt serve me. I was so stunned I left.

This place is wonderful. There are over 500 flavors that they make and switch out throughout the year. The servers are nice and the owner is a delight. Small business that has been in the same spot for years. Best gelato in portland. Some of my faves are mango passion fruit, green apple, espresso, and caramel pecan

In his novel The Plague, Albert Camus writes:Question: how can one manage not to lose time? Answer: experience it at its full length. Means: spend days in the dentists waiting-room on an uncomfortable chair...queue at the box-office for theatres and so on and not take ones seat; etc. (p.22)So basically, unless you have a profound existentialist imperative, dont stand like a sap in the Salt & Straw line for an hour when Alotto Gelato is across the street! (Alottos ice cream is actually better!)

The thin blonde woman wasnt very patient while we decided on what we wanted and she got a little snippy with me when I asked for some water. Didnt even take into consideration that I had never been there before and maybe not everybody knows where everything is.The coffee ice cream I had seemed stale. Asked to see if I could exchange for a different flavor but not without an attitude. I have lots of children I care for and could possibly bring in quite a bit of business. As a business owner I feel that customer service is number one key to successful business. Do not crap on the people that pay your bills. Really disappointed. I do give some points for the fact that the second selection of ice cream was really good although she didnt fill it up on the way. The other customer service lady there was very sweet. Unfortunately the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

Delicious, well-priced, short line/no wait. Gelato is gelato and it was good. I dont think it was spectacular, nor was it done poorly. Its standard yummy tasting gelato with a waffle cone that comes STANDARD with the single scoop price, not extra. They DO offer a larger waffle cone for an additional $1 but even their standard cone is waffle, which usually does cost more, and the waffle cone was particularly good. Its a perfect crispness without being too brittle and falling apart. It was VERY tasty. I saw that someone reviewed this place a 2-star saying that theyd rather visit Salt & Straw but with the CRAZY long lines that Salt & Straw seems to have all the time...this is a good alternative for sure. Salt & Straw is a destination of its own with their unique flavors so it isnt really comparable to a standard gelato or ice cream shop. Its not like this place price gouges you ($3.95/scoop, again with the standard waffle cone), or the service was horrible (not amazing but average), or the food tasted horrible. It was delicious. well-priced, and I didnt have to wait in a 30-minute+ line. 5-stars from me :)

About 4 days ago I went here and the two girls who were working their were very angry and gave attitude. All they cared about was closing up shop even though it was nowhere time to close. When I arrived one of the girls said in a very sarcastic voice “let me know when you’re ready to order” and proceeded to walk away going to the back. The girl who served me was definitely in quite a rush and barely gave me any icecream, I ordered two scoops and she only gave me a very small amount of the first flavor and a very large scoop of the second. I mind as well just have paid for only one of the flavors. The actual ice cream was good and They have some unique flavors like lavender gelato! Maybe next time the service will be better.

Its okay ice cream, I dont think Id call it gelato. The staff was clearly only concerned with closing. Putting chairs up at 10:30pm when the store closes at 11. Almost every customer that walked outside while we ate our ice cream complained about the two workers attitudes. Real bummer when they were cashing in on all the people that didnt want to wait for Salt and Straw down the street. Definitely missed out on some profit and potential returning customers.Oh and my scoops where like half that of Salt and Straw. Probably should have waited in the line.🙄

Fairly pleased with the gelato. The Lemon Sorbetto was a bit chunky/Frozen and so not as smooth as I was hoping for though the flavor was good. I was also hoping to get a bit more for my money. $4.25 for a few onces seemed steep, but I guess people are just happy not to stand in line for 30 minutes at salt & straw across the street.

Pros: Decent gelato, good service, they dont skimp on giving you your time in choosing the perfect flavor. Close to the parks, zoo and pittock mansion.Cons: They dont have a huge selection, the place is quite tiny. Dont expect to be treated with especially cold interior temperatures on a hot day.

I had no idea what gelato was until we walked by this place. I definitely hooked! The girl who helped us was really nice and explained it to us. I was very impressed that they paddle whip their own gellato in the back & make it fresh daily. You could taste the time & love they put into their product. The PB&J is Alotto Gel-icious!

This is the best gelato on and around 23rd. All gelato is made with top ingredients, which I believe are locally produced. It is an absolutely divine gelato. Small size you get 2 flavors? Sold.Ever since Salt & Straw opened up, the line is smaller. Make sure you come and support this place if you enjoy it. We would prefer to have gelato than to wait in line for a half hour or more for ice cream.
