I have known Welby (owner) long before he opened this coin shop. He is a straight shooter and doesn’t compromise his integrity. He’s quick and efficient!

Beginners Beware! So I just started coin collecting three weeks ago and went around to all the coin stores in the area. While I did learn a lesson here to check every coin and look up the value of them, this guy took advantage of my lack of knowledge and experience with coins. I paid way over eBay prices for every coin from here. And he even let me walk out of the store thinking I had bought a silver coin for twenty dollars when it was clad, damaged, and not even worth two. He has a nice amount of stock but he is no friend to you and will take your wallet if you let him. Out of more than ten stores I have been to so far, he is the only one that wasnt fair on prices and didnt offer advice for a new collector.

Awesome place, so many cool coins. I got a lot of knowledge today and some great recommendations. More than just a couple old coins, they have special coins too, and displayed very well. I definitely recommend this place to those looking to find a good gift for the holidays or to beef up your collection. Learned some stuff you dont really learn on youtube or from websites.

Incredible! The people that work here are super friendly. Selection is top notch. Prices are perhaps a little high compared to online bullion dealers but nothing compares to being able to see the coins in person and handle them. They buy back at $1 over spot. Thats right $1 OVER spot. Whether youre new to coins/precious metals or a seasoned collector/stacker, this shop is a must visit!

Called and asked if they were open due to covid, they said yes come on in. When I got there the door was locked and sing said by appointment only. I just drove 50 miles to get there. The guy behind the counter after I rattled the door asked what I wanted. I said do you buy coins to which he responded I dont know anything about coins. Hello you are a coin shop!! He told me to come back in February when his buddy got back from vacation. Lol

Was looking to spend my birthday money on a nice coin or two for my collection. Pulled up and parked at 3 oclock in the afternoon, and the workers were leaving. Not very happy since I spent 20 minutes to find it, and they were not open as the hours said. Not a single person who left said anything to us. We were in the process of getting out of the car and everything. Went down to American Coin and Jewelry and had a much better experience.

Came in just 2 old men, shot me a fair price for silver bullion. Very pleased with my experience. Thanks guys!

I just stopped into this awesome precious metals shop today for the first time. I just recently got into buying silver coins and rounds, and I was surprised at the selection and pricing. Very reasonable. Not to mention that both of the gentlemen who were staffing the counter were very friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about what they do, and treated me with respect despite that I only bought one item. I will likely be making all my purchases here from now on. There’s not much of a difference between online prices and it’s so much more convenient to trade cash directly versus placing orders online and waiting for personal checks to clear.

I would highly recommend this place. Welby was thorough, knowledgeable, and very respectful. He even took the time to answer questions I had about items I was offering to sell. He treated me and the heirlooms I brought in with the respect they deserved. I left feeling I received a fair price and dealt with a professional.

I’m a big coin enthusiast and saw this place had good reviews. I brought my dad and uncle to check it out. They had never been in a coin shop and both have deep pockets. Each of us wanted to make a purchase. The owner was arrogant and demeaning. He assumed we were unable to afford higher quality items and that we were cheapskates. He was very rude. We left that store and went down the road and made a several thousand dollar purchase. His loss...don’t assume people are poor. I have to say that there is a giant inventory and a large selection.

But I find Olympia Rare Coins deals fairly and honestly to both buyer and seller whether small or larger. Both the owner and staff are knowledgeable and non-pressuring. They are a joy to deal with. It is a well lit and run shop!

Welby is an awesome owner! This is not only one of the best coin and metal shops in the area, Id go as far as to say theyre in the top 5 in WA State! The owner knows his stuff, and wont try to low ball you. He has this thing called integrity. Hed rather you come back time and time again over make a quick buck off you. Not to mention, very few have the raw knowledge and experience in this realm as Welby.Its a small store in a fairly odd location. But if you collect coins and metals, dont miss out on this little gem! If you know nothing about the ho by and want to start, talk to Welby. He will show you whats what with a pure enthusiasm very few have. You can really tell his heart is in it and he cares about the community very much.I wont go into detail on this. I like the owner so much because he stood to his word like very few nowadays do. We had an agreement he could have easily went back on bit chose not to and held to his word. Much respect for this guy and his business. Again, if youre in the area and are in the hobby, skipping this place would be a mistake. Plus, if you own a similar business, you should thank him for the work he did. Theres a reason this business is rated as high as it is, by this many people.

The only coin store i can find in Olympia/ Lacey Area to sell silver bars!Sold some Buffalo nickles and got top dollar for them vs. other coin stores i called in the area.Owner is very friendly and honest about buying and what they go for, showed me online what they will be going for.They also have really cool pinball games and antiques!I have not seen a place like this in Olympia!Definitely going to tell all my friends about this place!

He even told me where he was at on most the stuff I asked and his prices have been the fairest Ive found in a 45 mile radius, I will be returning for future buys of gold and silver. Ive always enjoyed collecting coins and anything of historical value. I tried going into shops over the years but never found the pleasant experience usually found in hobbist shops. (Comics, Guitars, Antiques, etc).Those other store employees often would be rude, scoffing or laughing at my obvious beginners level of knowledge and novice questions. But everyone starts as a noob, right?Years pass, having given up on coin and rare metal shops I still collected, but nothing more.Summer 2018 I notice a new shop, Olympia Rare Coin near where I grew up on the east side. One day I dug out a few random 10k & 14k chains, most missing clasps, tangled or broken links.I was nervous to bring them in from my past experiences at unprofessional and rude gold and coin shops, but went inside.Its like a totally opposite experience from before. The owner Welby is very personable, and professional but most important to me is how he treated me as an equal, a fellow enthusiast treasure hunter, a peer. Often Ive seen and had Welby staying past closing time to talk shop with customers, even after sale is done and business concluded.You can tell he is passionate about the hobby and history involved, and enjoys the small business and customer community of gold and coin collectors!I highly recommend just stopping in to to see the store in person and introduce yourself to Welby and decide for yourself!

This is the place to go if u ever need to sell an old piece of jewelry or if you want to find a unique gift like a cool coin. The service is remarkable. The owners really know what there doing. They will let you know if ur scrap is real and they always give you the going rate unlike a lot of the pawn shops in town. Was looking around to sell some old silver half dollars when I came across this place. Friendly and knowledgeable staff also didnt have to get in a price war they offered exactly what the current Internet price was and I was more then happy with that.

Offered only metal value for my coin set. Do not go to this place if you have coins worth more than their metal value. I had a WTC Ground Zero recovery set, one of fifty, and the guy at the counter pulled out a piece of paper just to write down the worth melted down. A simple google search would have shown the actual value.
