My son is a student at UT, Knoxville. Last week his car would not start. I had it towed to Bao Auto Repair. Bao was very professional, knowledgeable, quick to repair, and best of are his prices....fantastic experience! I do not have experience with other repair shops in the area but if we ever need service again, Im going back to Bao!

We were passing through during the holidays (Christmas eve) when most repair shops were closed. I called Bao and he held the door open for us.His wonderful crew identified the issue within minutes (fortunately in my case it was just my spark plugs) and they had them replaced within 30-45 minutes.It was great visiting with Bao in the meantime. He was very knowledge. He seemed to have a 6th sense about vehicle issues and was able to guide his crew to the right solution.

I had them look at an engine oil leak that another shop estimated it would cost over $1k. Turned out it was only a minor leak that ended up costing me $100. Ive recommended them to anyone I know thats looking for an Auto repair shop.

I was traveling through Knoxville on my way back to NC when my battery light came on while driving. In my case in meant a new alternator. No other auto repair in Knoxville was willing to help that same day. Several told me to get a hotel and they might could do it tomorrow.Mr. Bao had me come in immediately and had it completely fixed within an hour. He had another 3 cars in his shop at the same time. His entire staff was speedy and professional. This man has integrity and a heart. Lastly, he did not over charge me, in fact, he cut me a few deals.Highly recommend!

My check engine light came on and my car was sputtering so I went to Bao and he was very busy but told me to go get the ignition coils and spark plugs needed for my car and when I came back he was done with my car in less than an hour! My car works just fine now! And he only charged me $40. Really thankful! Was kind of scared of the Black dog they have but it was friendly!

I needed to have a transmission pan replaced that I had tried to fix myself when I was low on money, I really did a number on the transmission pan and they were able to salvage everything that I had done to it and the cost to fix it was much less than I was expecting. Awesome people and amazing prices!

We cannot thank Bao enough for the work he did for us last week. My family was an hour into a 9-hour road trip back to Chicago after a week in the Great Smokey Mountains. Our 2007 Honda Odyssey has taken us all over the country and we’ve never had any issues. As we were approaching Knoxville (about an hour into our drive) I saw the battery warning light come on. We identified Bao via Google, saw his decent reviews, and called. He told us to come right in and immediately assess the problem: a failed alternator. I couldn’t believe how accommodating he was, getting our van in and out of his garage in less than a couple of hours. Price was very reasonable and we even took him up on his lunch recommendation across the street. Honestly, what could have been a huge headache ended up being a minor inconvenience thanks to Bao. We highly recommend!

No frills-straight forward experience. Bao is as honest as they come, hes not trying to make a quick buck- but instead genuinely fixing up cars and charging you an incredibly competitive price. Had new brake rotors + pads installed and found out that one of my calipers were bad. Within minutes he was on the phone and had the caliper delivered, cant say many auto repair places could get me in and out at the same pace + price point Bao did.

I am shocked that there is a negative review of Bao! I have used him for several years and have found him to be nothing short of professional, fairly priced, and extremely knowledgeable. Bao himself usually doesnt even get to take a lunch break because hes so busy! Hes so busy because most everyone in Knoxville wants him to be the one working on their car(s)! For me, I wont go anywhere else because Bao is honest and shoots you straight. He doesnt try to add on any unnecessary parts/services and, again, he is very reasonable with pricing which is important to most people.

I called Bao on 6/29/2020 to have a water pump and timing belt component kit put on a PT Cruiser. They offered me a good price, and I said I would call back later in the day to arrange when I could drop the car off. Anyway, I called back later in the afternoon and was told that Wednesday 7/1/2020 would be the best day to bring the vehicle in, as the mechanic was trying to get people to pick up their cars and make room on their lot. If you have ever been by the location you know it is rather cramped, and apparently with this being a family owned shop there is only one mechanic. I agreed that I would bring the car in on Wednesday. So, when I called on Wednesday 7/1/2020 to confirm, they then informed me that Monday 7/6/2020 would work better because he wouldnt be able to start on it until then anyway, and they didnt want a lot of vehicles on the lot while they werent there for the holiday. From what they told me they had done this in the past and had experienced issues. I can understand wanting to wait until the holiday is over, so I agreed. I called this morning 7/6/2020 to confirm bringing the car and where I should put it on the lot. I was told that tomorrow would be better. I feel as though they keep putting me off or dont want to be bothered with the car. This would have been the first time we visited this shop. As a result of the run around I feel I have gotten I wont ever call this shop again and I wont be recommending them to anyone either.

Bao did a a great job and instead of taking all of my money made recommendation on what repairs needed priority. The best prices I have found by far. Its refreshing to find a mechanic who doesnt take advantage of people.

Worst experience ever! Optimistically, he is not eligible to fix your car when the problem is a little complex, he can only handle simple jobs like oil or rotor change. Pessimistically, he made my car worse on purpose when he felt I dont know a lot about cars to scam me. He costed me money and time (many weeks!) and made my car much worse. Made me feel bad saying he is doing me a favor and he is only charging for parts. Dont believe him when he calls someone and asks a price. After going to him my car got totally wreck and I had to sell it for its parts. His high rating is b/c he calls you and suggest returning your money to remove your review. It wont work on me.

Stopped by to get rear brakes fixed. They completed the work in 45 minutes. Great service and great people! Highly recommend!

Mr. Bao is an aggressive person and he thinks money first. I had gone there many times because my friends said that he is cheap. However, today I went there with appointment. He only said go and change your tires first, then come back. After changing my tires, I came back but he said I am too busy if you pay 50 bucks I can check exactly what the problem is. I was shocked because I was thinking we is an honest person. And he told me come later. How can I trust and go again I dont know. I am looking for a better repair person. I hope I will not need to go there again. I am sad.

Bao was awesome. My civic was misdiagnosed and extremely over quoted on a bearing replacement. Bao quoted me something extremely reasonable and promised me he could have it diagnosed and fixed very timely. He was communicative throughout the whole process. He is a little hard to understand, but he and his staff are very friendly. Its hard to find a mechanic you trust that also wont overcharge. I will definitely keep my business with Bao in the future.

Baos Auto Repair is 1 of the best places around to get your car fixed. He will do what he can to do you right. His prices are more than reasonable. He also lets you bring your own parts. There is a reason they are so busy.

We had black ford f150 about 14 yrs old. We purchased new. We have let Bao do repairs last couple yrs usually little stuff air condition, co pack ect. We were gonna purchase a new truck in couple months but did earlier because they told us the intake manifold was cracked and leaking into plugs and would cost over 1000.00 dollars. We didnt want to put any more money into this truck. We bought a new one and sold the older one for 1500.00 and come to find out all it was a coli pack. So dissapointed in the lies for money they are telling hard working honest people. We will never go back there and will tell everyone to not trust them. Always get second opinion !!! Liars

Lost my car due to poor workmanship and ethics at a chain auto repair shop, Boa sold us a great car that he had worked on himself. He even did additional work on the car at very low cost before selling it to us because he wanted to make sure that we were happy with the vehicle. We are very happy with the service, knowledge, and ethics of this auto repair shop! Wholeheartedly recommend this shop to anyone, and certainly wish that I had found them much earlier! Bao Auto Repair is a Knoxville gem. They have been serving the Knoxville community for 20 years and have many loyal customers. Their prices and quality of work are fantastic. I had to have my timing belt and water pump changed, called the dealer, they said it would cost almost $1000. From my research, the price they gave was way above average. I had everything done at Bao Auto for much less than that.Give them a call if you need anything or swing by and talk to them. Whatever problems your car have, they will help you fix it. The shop looks like a used car dealership from outside and parking is limited. They have a large shop inside with several technicians.

Bao runs one of if not the best garages in East Tennessee. If you need something simple like some new headlamps, or complicated like a new transmission, he will have you covered with quality work at a great price. They are busy, but thats because they do some of the best work. Do yourself a favor and let Bao fix your vehicle.

There are only three things wrong with Baos place from the perspective of the consumer:1. It looks a little shady.2. He is sometimes slow.3. The owner is difficult to understand.Appearances can be deceiving, however. This place is quality! His work is cheap and he does not screw people with misleading suggestions to buy overpriced and unnecessary services. Hes a class act too. I once put my car in to replace the disks, and he fixed my hanging bumper free of charge! You got to go through a couple of hoops with he guy, but youll never be disappointed with the results.

He has even turned me away before because the issue my vehicle was having did not NEED to be fixed right away, and he said I would be wasting my money to get it fixed. He is great on pricing, very fair. I have been going exclusively to him for 5 years now and will not change that. Highly recommend. Just call first to make sure he can take you that day, as he stays busy.

Got into a car accident really bad about a week and a half ago. I literally thought my car was totaled, and not able to fix it. Seriously, Bao and his team can fix anything.. It was so inexpensive, I really wonder if they even charged me for the labor. My car is driving really nice and smooth, No one will believe I wrecked this car. They are very honest, kind, and skillful. My grandfather looked at my car after I brought it home, and he kept saying Wow - he couldnt believe that they did such an amazing job. It was my second time taking my car to Bao, and they are seriously the best people. Probably the best customer service ever, too! Thank you for being really patient on me even though I literally called you everyday to check on my car.. :) I wanna give 10000 stars!! I can guarantee that theres no body shop better than Bao.

Ive had a mix of experiences here. Ive taken multiple vehicles here several times for a wide variety of repairs. Anything from engine work to suspension and wheel issues. The good news is that Bao does quality work for an excellent price. The bad news is that communication is poor. I used to tell them verbally what I needed, but inevitably things would get left off the list. Then I tried handing them a written list, but even this ended up getting lost or not communicated to the mechanic.One of the problems is that they seem to be too busy to keep up with all the customers coming in. Ive stood around for WAY too long many times just waiting to tell someone what the problem is.Its also difficult to get a straight answer on how long things will take.Overall, its pretty hit or miss here. If you just need a simple repair and need a low price, they are trustworthy for it. But if you want total confidence in the timeline and extent of repairs, you may be better off elsewhere.

I left my car there for 1 week with a list of items for repair. I checked on it by physical going there and was told it would be taken care of tomorrow. This happened 2 times. After 6 days there was only one item on the list addressed. The repairs requested were minimal. Like oil change, a coolant jug replacement, ac recharge, break light check. And few small others. I feel like I left plenty of information to be reached for communication that would enable the shop to tell me any information about cost and time delays. However it took much encouragement from my behalf to request the repairs to be done. After the 3rd time and 6 days of waiting. I simply paid for the single reapair of 8 that I requested. Sadly, I can not recommend this place if you want a repair done in a reasonable time frame. Prices semmed fair enough but not worth the wait. There is also a communication barrier as the owners English is hard to understand. Overall the experience coat me much more time than I expected to spend borrowing a vehicle and imposing an inconvenience for my family. The saving were not with the trouble for me.

I went to Knoxville for the summer to work at the Oak Ridge National Lab. My car was pretty old and within a month of being there, I realized that the coolant was sometimes bubbling in the radiator. So I assumed it was overheating. I checked online and it did seem like it can be as simple as the radiator cap and/or the thermostat, or can be something more complex either. A local friend recommended Bao to be honest, good and affordable. So on a morning, I took the car to his place. He was somewhere inside the garage, the reception was empty, I wasnt sure whom to ask. There was another customer waiting who was supposedly a regular there. He went inside and fetched Bao. He heard about it, asked me if I could wait an hour. I did. Then after an hour he took the car inside, checked; told me that it is more likely to be something simple. He suggested to change the radiator cap and thermostat, and said most likely that will solve the issue. He took another half an hour to do the job. By 10:30 am I was done. He charged me 60 bucks in total. It was a year ago and the car never had any problem of overheating again.Highly recommended.

Ive waited to write this review until I was SURE! Bao is the real deal. I had the transmission go out in my 2001 Toyota Tundra Truck. $2200 to rebuild that with everyone else. I told Bao that I just want it to run again. He charged me $1300 bucks to replace the parts that really needed replacing. Then when I had a valve body issue he put another one in it for FREE!Bao is honest, charges a fair price and does great work.Sure, the place looks like a junk yard - who cares. Sometimes nobody is in the office and sometimes they dont call you to tell you your call is ready. Who cares! They do amazing work and I will only be taking my cars to Bao from now on!

When I called to get a quote on a brake line repair I was informed that they wouldnt do it simply because they didnt want to its too much trouble Id be weary taking my car to this establishment if theyre too lazy to repair a 5 inch piece of brake line. I can only imagine what else they cut corners on or dont even do to begin with. Take your money elsewhere.

Here it is I live in Chattanooga and ended up going to Knoxville to see family bc thats where Im from and my car ended up braking down well I was told it was the alternator so I bought one and BAO was gonna put it on well I got there to find out its the starter not the alternator so Im freaking out bc there closing soon and I dont have a starter well they find one in pretty good shape sales it to me for 50 bucks on top of just charging 50 to put it on so yes theyre awesome and Ive not had any issues out of the starter.

I have had work done by Bao a few times now and I am always pleased with the service. I originally found him (by reading online reviews) after getting a quote for over $3000 for a transmission issue and Bao found the real problem and fixed it for under $500. He is a deep down good person who believes in fairness. It is nice to find a mechanic with service you can trust at a reasonable price.

BAO IS THE BEST. We was told by TNT Afforadable tires on walker springs road that our 2008 Nissan Altima needed a new engine due to blowed head gasket and it would cost $3500 to fix. Bao is not only an amazing car mechanic, but he is also an incredible human being, as well.I came to Bao in July 2019 because my car trunk would not open. However, when he inquired more about my situation, he also found out that I was going though a rough time and that I may need to sleep in my car. Not only did he fix my car trunk for FREE (I was ready and willing to pay for it, but he declined and said I need the money more), but he also offered to remove the passenger seat and store it in his garage so I can make a bed until I can get back on my feet, also at no additional charge.THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING, BAO. You really are a world-class human being, and even those small gestures of kindness mean the world to someone in need. I cant thank you enough.

I had one of the most bizarre problems with my car. Other mechanics could not figure it out. Bao worked intensely on it and was the only one who could figure it out. He might be a genius. He has also treated me well since then with prices and service.

I called Bao last summer and decided not to write a review at the time, but since I have been through the experience of having bad mechanics, I feel that I should give a review of my actual experience.I went to the bank one day to cash my check, and when I got in the car, the key wouldnt crank the engine. I merely heard something snap and break, and the key just turned with the ignition lock cylinder in circles.I called Bao, telling him I had an older car (1997 Taurus), and he didnt want to work on it until I told him it was well taken care of and in good condition. He reluctantly agreed.He told me he had a steering wheel column on-hand and that it would be $140. After looking up parts, I couldnt even find a part for that cheap, so I agreed.After coming back to see my car, he put in a steering wheel column from a 2000s model that needed a chip to program the key, unlike my old one, and the key that came with it was very beat up. The color was beige and did not match my grey interior, and the worst part was the clock-spring for the airbag did not have the right fitting to plug into my car, so I couldnt honk my horn, as the horn runs through that connection. He also charged me $175.I recently said good-bye to my car, but his shoddy work was one of the main reasons why I didnt keep it. I was also in an accident that damaged the trunk, and it would have cost too much to replace the two.I never came back to Bao because I moved out-of-state, and knowing that I would not be a repeat customer, I believe that he shafted me. There are a lot of good, honest people in Knoxville, so you should be able to find a good mechanic. I would advise you not to go to Bao, as you can find someone just as good who will stand behind their work and treat your car better somewhere else.

I asked them to change my fuel pump, because I thought that it was bad. However it was not bad, and they replaced it without checking. Granted, they were only doing what I told them to do, but it would have been nice if they checked, that could have saved me $200 dollars. Still, their service is honest, good, and quick. So I give them 4 stars, and I will return in the future. Communication was the only issue.

Went there after reading reviews and having less than a good experience with other local mechanics. Bao and Diet (sp) are wonderful people and provide a fair price professional service with friendly welcoming attitude. Felt right at home. They are definitely not there to pressure you into things you do not need. Good, trustworthy mechanics are hard to find, so I do not mind driving the extra 25 minutes to go here. Thanks!!
