Fantastic experience!I lived in KC a few years ago and stopped in for a minor purchase a couple of times. This time I am back in town for only a week to visit friends and bike, bike, and bike. When I had an issue with my internal hub gears not shifting I took it to Midwest Cyclery late in the day. The next morning I got a call that my bike was ready and the repair was wonderfully reasonable.I headed out for a ride right away to enjoy the beautiful day and evening (attached pic). Thank you Midwest Cyclery! Ill be telling all of my KC friends about my great experience!

Over the past many year, I think I’ve written only a handful of reviews. However, we had such a wonderful experience at Midwest Cyclery this week that I need to write. I knew they carried a brand of bike I wanted to buy, so I popped in a few weeks ago just to chat a little and pick their brains. I was met by Pat, super friendly and knowledgeable, who answered all of my questions and got an idea of what I wanted and needed. So, yesterday, my wife and I went in to gear up (something we’d been waiting almost 15 years to do). The owner, Christina, and Pat both helped us as we found the exact bikes we needed. We left feeling like we had been taken care of and that we chose the right bikes and gear for our type of cycling. This store is a perfect example of why it’s good to shop local! Thank you.

A great bike shop located in a good spot, I went in to get some air, and they helped me out very quickly and free of charge. I would definitely stop by here if youre in town and need any bike fixes and changes.

Be wary on their return policy. They refused to take back a tool I didnt need, despite me having the receipt and the tool being in the original package. The tool cost me $30. Im pretty sure they wont accept returns on most items as well.If you are buying something from them, straight up ask them what their return policy is or look on Amazon first.

Parts department was extremely helpful and was able to get the part I needed. However the mechanics would not take time to even come look at my bike after I was told to bring it in. Would have appreciated the input and recommendations but they clearly do not put the customer first. Mechanics also acted annoyed when the lady from parts asked for their input. They also did not have a bicycle tire pump in stock. Seems like something a bike shop would have.

At one point they were a Serotta dealer and thats what I ride.

It is always a great experience at Midwest Cyclery. I dont go nearly often enough, but every time Im there everybody is very kind and helpful and have made sure I was able to get what I needed. Ive had assorted repairs performed, purchased apparel and parts, and just asked questions and it has always gone well!I cant recommend visiting Midwest Cyclery enough!

I went to Midwest Cyclery today and had an amazing experience. I know nothing about bikes and the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. They helped me with installation of parts and offered great suggestions that met my needs. I recommend everyone shop this local bike shop!

I was shaken today after being “bike shamed” at another local bike shop in KC. I was looking for an affordable bike to do a bit more climbing with since my solid steel Fat Bike isn’t the easiest to lug up to Strawberry Hill. COVID has made finding these bikes more difficult and I knew that. I walked into Midwest and they immediately made me feel comfortable. I didn’t even have to explain what kind of bike I was looking for. Bob helped me and knew right away what I was looking for. He said, I have just the bike. Perfect! I bought a Trance X here. I have never had a better buying experience than here. Not only did they help me set up my sag 5 minutes before closing, they also bed in my brakes before I picked it up so I could literally drive to the trail immediately and ride.

Had a great experience here! A part on our existing bike rack broke as we were on a road trip and stopped in Kansas City. They tried hard to find us a replacement part for our current rack (when we were about to buy a new one from them already!). Then when they were unable to find the part, they were super helpful helping us find a new rack and even installed it on our car in the hot sun for us.

Absolutely love this place! They have been in business for a long time. They know older bikes which is what I ride. Super knowledgeable and friendly and staff. Midwest is the only bike shop Ill go to now.

Just stopped by to look at a couple options for a new bike. I haven’t bought anything yet but they were very helpful. They also were careful about not overcrowding the store and had a great mask policy.

They were honestly super rude which is fine, if they also were good at the work they do. Took my hifi pro bike in there to get the tires swapped from road to off-road tires and in changing them out, they introduced a leak into the valve stem that i now have to fix. Should’ve just done the job myself.

They set me up with new tubes and tires while I waited. It cost a chunk but that ir the going rate.

I couldn’t be anymore happier with my purchase. I purchased a Liv bike for my little girl for her birthday. She really wanted a bike for her birthday and the guys here went above an beyond what I expected. They didn’t act as if they were sales men, all the did was answer questions and give you a good idea to what you may need. Not one time did I feel pressured to make a purchase, they simple acted as if the bike sell themselves and they freaking do. I honestly feel as if I got her bike for a steal, I’ve even checked online and I paid $100 less for what I see at other shops. PLEASE DON’T RAISE YOUR PRICES BECAUSE OF THIS REVIEW. I will be back again in October for my sons birthday. I’m hoping to be back sooner for myself.

I have been on the market for a new bike for awhile. As a newbie to the cycling world, I didnt even know where to begin. After reading their reviews online and researching their products, I decided to give them a try! Im so glad I did! The sales staff and owner were so helpful! I showed them the bike I was interested in, they told me about about specs, let me take it for a spin, and ordered one in the size that best fit me! There was no pressure to buy or upgrade. They even invited me to their weekly cycling tours around KC. Highly recommend Midway Cyclery!

They were very helpful while trying to decide what bike to purchase and I purchased a very nice bike. Since then, they have been less then helpful with the service aspect after the purchase. It came across to me as good people but disorganized at times

So, to be up front, Im reviewing based on their hours. I probably wont ever be able to make it in here because... 10-6 on weekdays? Im already at work. Sadly, I work most Saturdays too. But Sunday. Sunday is my fun day! Id highly recommend closing Mondays or Tuesdays in order to be open at least 12-5 on Sundays. I can absolutely see why a shop owner wants time off to spend relaxing or with family or any other number of reasons, and thats fine. But, you own a business to make money so it follows to schedule open hours during peak recreation and buying hours of the majority, but thats just one way to look at it. Anyway... Maybe some day Ill get to check it out!

Really friendly family owned store with prices comparable to the web. Bought a new hybrid bike and they give one year of free service.I like that they are off Main street now a bit and have a better parking situation. Just up from the plaza on Main Nice place.

I love having bicycle experts to count on. Ive had a number of my bicycles fixed, cleaned and tuned,. Always had great friendly service.

Took a bike in for service and first ride back it was in worse shape than when I took it in. I did not want them to work on it again due to the deterioration of comdiction and simply asked for a refund. The women belittled me on the phone so I calmly excused myself from the conversation and let her be aware I would contact my bank to deal with the lack of service. She then left a threatening voicemail on my phone (uploaded) Instead of resolving the issue. Just a heads up for any potential customers that there are shops with much better customer service and quality of work.

They are the best bike shop in Kansas City in my humble opinion. They are a Giant bicycles dealer, which is a huge win. Giant has the best deals for the price. They have other brands such as Kona, which is another good choice .I have been a customer for several years now, and have been pleased with the service and products. They can get really busy sometimes, especially on Saturdays, but just be patient and they will get to you.

Being someone who is new to cycling while trying to learn how to do minor repairs and maintenance myself; it’s really great to have a place that always has what I need as well as a staff that is friendly to all my stupid questions, haha. So far, every visit has been extremely productive and helpful. Everyone is down to earth and no one has tried to shove extra sales down my throat, which is a huge bonus.

I bought an innertube that went flat the first time I used my bike. Could not find leak but when aired up, tube had a deformity. Went back to get replacement or discount on new one. They did not offer either. They could not find the leak either. Customer service sucks. Wont buy anything from this place again.

Took my bike to Midwest Cyclery for repairs. They were happy to work with me and very welcoming. I live closer to Waldo Bikes, but its worth a few extra blocks for a better experience.

Midwest Cyclery is great, I’ve picked up quite a few bike parts, accessories, and even a bike rack. They are all super helpful and I’m glad to have such a great bike shop in Kansas City.

Knowledgeable staff and very interested in figuring out what you need. After much discussion with the staff I purchased a new E-Mountain bike. For me, with some of my health issues, this was the perfect solution to get me back on the single track.

Stopped by to look at bikes but they didnt had anything ready in my size (L). However, they showed me a few bikes that will be ready the next day and they agreed to call me when they are ready. I called back in a few times in a row and they postponed me again and again until I finally gave up and bought a bike somewhere else.

These guys are so great! I bike to work, so I had to bring it in over my lunch break. They bumped me up to first in line and got it in perfect shape in 30 minutes! The owner is so warm and friendly-- we talked the whole time I was waiting. I also got to watch them work on my bike and explain the problem. Such a great experience and I wont be going anywhere else for bike repairs.

Seems to be the only place in Kansas city to get good bmx bike parts, and they told me they could order the one I wanted when Im ready.

This place is great i go there for everything. By far the best selection In town. Can be a bit pricey though.

There for you in the crunch. Realized my rear wheel was pretty badly out of true right about the time I was leaving work. 430pm on a Friday and Id have to ride there first.....Im boned. 20 mins later and they have my wheel and got it trued up and me on my way for cheap (20$). These guys have helped me like this probably five times now. Thanks so much Trent, youre good stuff man.

AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. They quoted me $75 to rebuild my bike and didnt even tighten the bolts. They quoted me $60 to put on some accessories and then changed it to $120! The place is a total rip-off and unprofessional!! The website is misleading about who owns and runs the shop...it is not some nice elderly people...its a bunch of young freaks!! Dont risk your safety and waste your money.....drive a little further if you have to.....

The service here was appalling. The owner of the company completely lacks customer service skills as well as cultural and diversity training and skills.The wife of the owner also works here and if you are a person of color just looking YOU WILL BE WATCHED. And forget about just looking and price shopping here. If you do not plan to purchase a bike they will act like you dont exist. I brought my trek here to get my rail system re-adjusted and when I brought it home it was worse off than when I brought it in. They even quoted me a flat fee in store and when I picked my bike up they had added 15$ to the price for the exact same job and when I asked for an explanation they refused to tell me why.(I dont know whether a bike shop the lacks diversity training and cultrual awareness needs to be in such a diverse neighborhood.)Again if you are wanting to be treated with respect and like a human regardless of budget DONT GO HERE!!!

I stopped here a while back toward the end of February after an apocalyptic snow storm. These guys saved my life.The guy working there replaced my dangerously worn brakes and the battery in my rear bicycle light. And later that day, when I was standing outside on Southwest Boulevard, somewhat confused by the bus routes in Kansas city, he stopped by and shared some helpful knowledge when almost everyone else I had asked had been as ignorant as rocks.Friendly helpful people. If Im ever in Kansas City again Ill be sure to pay a visit.

The ol bait and switch. This shop told me it would be $20 to true my front wheel. When I went to pay, they told me $25. I pointed at the shop ticket that said $20 on it, sitting in front of them on the counter.They then proceeded to trash my bike at the time saying cheap bikes like this take more work. We do have this nice Kona for sale though..Real shame, I want to get my gf a Kona FS bike, but I wont walk through those doors again.

I recently got my hands on a kurt kinetic road machine. I got into cycling a year ago and only had enough money to buy a decent single speed. I was confused as to how to set up my bike in the kurt kinetic since they included a quick release skewer (my axle is bolted). I called around some bike shops and it was only when I called midwest cyclery was I told that I did not need to buy a new single speed rear wheel with a quick release axle. These guys who work here are very knowledgeable and charge fair prices for labor. I couldnt figure out how to get a flat continental indoor tire on my rim with the inner tube, but the guy who worked here did and it showed me how for future instances. This place is a little out of the ways for me (river market bike shop is closer) but I still go to this place since the guys who work here are very nice and are always willing to help.

Broke a shifting cable out on a ride, mechanic looked like he had no clue on how to change a cable that ran through the bike frame, wanted to excessively charge me for a replacement and take three days to get it done. Went to another shop that got it done in an hour and for much less.

This is a fantastic shop run by fantastic people.
