For the first time, I decided to buy a brand new bike and overall had a very good experience. The workers helped me pick out a more appropriate bike for my height after the bike I had originally ordered online did not fit perfectly. I live in galveston, so the store was kind enough to get my new bike assembled and ready same day! Also after being chastised for not regularly wearing a helmet by the workers, I am happy to report I now religiously wear my helmet everywhere. :) very kind and knowledgeable workers

We have recently bought two bicycles from this place, and the buying experience was absolutely pleasant and stress free. All staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and courteous. We were able to test drive the bikes we were interested in, and felt no pressure if we were undecided. All was great and ultimately came back to buy our daughter her bike! Shout out to Sharla for the awesome customer service and for having such a great vibe and being so amiable!!!! 😎

Every employee at this bike shop has been so helpful and patient with me as I explored my bike options. I was initially overwhelmed trying to figure out which bike would work for me but the staff did amazing in answering all my questions and offering their advice and expertise in what would match my needs. It never felt like any of the employees were trying to make a sale off of me when they were assisting me. This shop has a great variety of bikes and they will also let you test ride the bike to make sure that you are feeling comfortable with a potential option. They really went above and beyond for me in my bike buying journey and will definitely recommend anyone I know who is looking to buy a bike to purchase from this shop.

Bolts came off without even riding the bike. Paid for tune up and tubes. Tubes weren’t replaced and caps were missing. All in all the workers are cool. This bike shop is beyond awful, the derailleur wasnt even the problem and the techs didnt install it correctly- amateur hour. Read the other reviews, its pathetic- the owner has a habit of long winded replies which shirk his responsibility to his customers and generally just sounds asinine. Weak attempts at pulling wool over our eyes.Ill be dropping the derailleur off and issuing a chargeback.Dont support a business which treats their customers like this, dont be fooled by the owner trying to place blame on the customers, take your money elsewhere. Like a scorching case of herpes, you should avoid Ham Cycles at all costs.I still cant believe what happened to me with this bike shop, as it defies all reason, but here goes:I went into the shop to purchase a bike after selecting it from their website. I purchased the bike, but was told it wasnt on-site and that they would need to bring it into the shop for me to pick up another time. I agreed. A few days later, I received a phone call informing me that they actually did not have the bike I purchased, and I was asked to consider an alternative bike that they did have in stock. I agreed to consider it, ultimately decided the alternative wouldnt work, went to their website again, and saw another bike that was reported as in-stock that I could live with instead. I called the shop to let them know about this other bike, and was told that their website wasnt correct and they didnt have that bike in stock, either. Picking up a pattern here? But it gets worse. At that point I decided to throw my hands up, get my money back, and start over with another local bike shop.No refunds, I was told. What? You sell me a bike you dont actually have, none of your alternatives will work, so I want my money back. Thats it. Theres really nothing more to discuss, I responded. No refunds.I then asked to speak with the manager/owner, and was nervously (almost fearfully) told that the owner does not speak with customers directly, because if he did, he would spend all of his time calling upset customers. Yes, thats really what I was told. The staff at Ham Cycles must be so proud to work there!Anyway, I let the shop know they had exactly two days to refund my credit card, or I would dispute the charge and get my money back that way.On the second day, I receive a phone call from the bike shop, trying to talk me into yet another bike. Having lost all interest in doing any business at all with Ham Cycles, I declined and simply asked for my money back.Well, we can break our policy for you and do the refund, but theres going to be a restocking fee, I was informed, almost as if they felt they were doing me a favor.Yes, thats right, they were going to charge me a restocking fee for a bike they never had to begin with. Which is exactly what they did; they charged me a $53.04 restocking fee for a bike that never existed. Wow.In the end, I disputed the charge with my credit card company and got my money back. Now, Ive noticed that in many of the owners responses to other negative reviews (I guess thats what it takes to get this owner to interact with you!), the owner gives long, intricate explanations for why the customer is wrong and he is right. But for what its worth, if the owner put in even a fraction of the effort into doing right by his customers to begin with that he puts into his responses to all of these negative reviews, he probably wouldnt have such reviews to begin with. But what do I know, right? So I wanted to write this review to try to help others avoid Ham Cycles. Because, just like there isnt a cure for herpes, there doesnt seem to be a cure for Ham Cycles, either.

My experience at this bike shop started very positively but ended abysmally. The shop kept setting expectations that they did not keep. I test rode several bikes and the promised to have a bike ready for me multiple times on different dates. When I finally got to the shop to pick up my bike today they said it wasn’t even built and that I will need to pre-pay the full amount for them to be motivated to build it for me at all. This final person I talk to also said that at a minimum they should’ve received a deposit, which I would have been happy to pay if I had been asked in the first place. She was extremely rude and expressed clearly that she did not want my business. It’s a shame when a customer is so excited about a product and money is no issue but Customer Service gets in the way of an easy and satisfying transaction. Cool bikes but too cool for you service.

I rarely write reviews, but I have been so impressed with my experience at Ham Cycles over the past few years I figured it was about time. I ride and old Craigslist procured commuter daily to the med center and it is frequently left out int he elements. Ive had several small issues with it over the years and have brought it to Ham multiple times. They have always been up front about pricing and good about communicating how long I should expect service to take and updating me promptly if either changes. Most recently, while repairing the brakes, they found out an axel loose, which I had not been quoted for. They updated me about this, made an extra run to the supply store and just charged me a bit extra for the parts only. My bike rides better now than when I bought it 2.5 years ago! Ham excels in customer service and you can feel confident they have your best interest at heart. Im happy to continue supporting this local shop! Thanks yall!

Id give them -1 Star if I could. Took my bike in to ask what a repair would cost and how long it would take. They told me it would take 2-3 days and cost $30-40 as the parts were in stock. Since I was riding at the time, I brought the bike back several days later to drop it off. They told me Id receive a notification via text or call when the bike was ready. 7 days later, I called and the bike wasnt ready. The guy on the phone said he didnt know why anyone would have told me 2-3 days to fix and that their current repair time is 8 days. 13 days after drop off, I went in to check since I had not received a text or call. The bike was sitting in the rack ready for pickup and they charged me twice as much. $35 for the parts and $35 for the labor. If I knew it wouldve been that much I probably wouldnt have opted to repair it. I only paid $185 for the bike brand new. This seemed a little too much like a lie to get me to drop off the bike so they could screw me. Ill be taking my business to Houston Bicycle from now on, Ive had great experience there. Lesson learned. Ouch.

It was a very simple and to-the-point visit. After an initial attempt to put together a performance hybrid bicycle, I had some issues with the brakes and gear shifters.I brought it in, and one of the guys there took it and looked at it and noted some more oddities with the construction of the bicycle. He knew immediately that it was constructed out of the box, and there were more things other than brakes and gear shifters that were off.He was incredibly fair - he kind of glanced at it and said that most of the work would essentially be deconstructing and reconstructing the bicycle, basically a full set-up... but since it was kind of already put together, they only charged $40. I thought it was a really fair price for someone to go through the entire bicycle and fix everything that was wrong. I was sure they were going to follow up with we had to add/fix such and such so it cost an extra X to do so... so your NEW total is...But they didnt. Just 40 bucks plus tax. They were really cool about it. My brakes and gear shifters work great, and the weird wiggle in my bike is gone, now, too! I will definitely be coming back here for any other tweaks and repairs for my bicycles in the future.

Bought 2 all new tires and tubes 6 months ago for a total of over $200 and SPECIFICALLY made it clear that, as a bike commuter of almost a decade, I needed something that held up to the 4 years the ones I was on took care of me for. Being a person with enough common sense to research the basics of my day to day, I wasnt 100% convinced in the beginning I got what I paid for, but I figured they knew better than me there and let it go. My own fault for not calling it out at the point, but this review is the product of the constant deflation issues, defective valve, and losing a tire on the half inch lip of a driveway, wiping out horribly, and bending a rim. You guys had one chance to do right by me and failed to the tune of causing me harm. I hope a thousand people read this review and decide to go elsewhere. Thanks for scrapes and bruises.*After your response I will make certain I direct people away from this shop and really hope that people take this to heart. I am an experienced cyclist whose bike was with you for a week. If I didnt know how to take complete control, there would be another ghost bike off Dumble. It wasnt under my name. It was under my small business name. But regardless, choosing to buck a review instead of directly contacting me speaks volumes about how you treat neighborhood people. I didnt ask for anything from you beyond my purchase.I might have responded positively to a response that didnt include how the products you have chosen to saddle people with are not of consistent quality, or how deep your faith in the experience of your staff is, but now Im certain people should steer completely clear of you and I dont doubt that anyone who reads how you responded would think any differently. The fact that you cant see a one star review as an opportunity to turn a bad situation into a good one defines your business acumen.

Excellent customer service, fantastic selection and great people. After Harvey they waived labor to help out the community. Great place to hang and talk about bikes with people who love bikes.

I couldnt have said it better than Eric (below), although to reiterate ... I went in on my lunch hour, was able get a reasonable price on a bike as well as some advice on my current bike. I never felt like he was trying to upsell me. I even had an embarrassing incident where I couldnt get air in my tires, he was very patient and helped me w. out laughing :) . No pretentious sales people here, great shop for all levels of riders...service and sales!

Great shop, my sons bike was stolen and I had to build him a new one. The guys at Ham managed to build the bike from a frame I brought them in one afternoon. The bike was ready to pick up that same day. Amazing customer service.

I dropped of my road bike for a chain replacement, while I was there I mentioned that my left shifter was not working properly. The employee told me that he would repair the chain and take a look at the shifter to try and fix it. Left my contact information, they said they would call me when it was all done.A couple of weeks pass by and I have not heard from the shop. I decided to give them a call to check on my bike. The mechanic working on my bike told me that he had already replaced the chain and that he was working on the shifter.I stop by the next day (on a Friday) and found my bike with the old chain and the left shifter dis-assembled. The guy at the counter told me that the mechanic was out for the weekend. That is when I find out decided to take my bike from this so called bike shop. Later found that the mechanic ruined my shifter by dis-assembling it. Now I have to buy a set of shifters. Thanks for nothing Ham Cycles!
