I love this place, I go here all the time. Everyone is really nice sometimes I go in just to play, and they have time to answer all my crazy questions. As an aspiring luthier, this place is the best for getting knowledge. Sometimes, they even give me free parts.

My girlfriend and I stopped in so she could look at ukuleles. We must have browsed for about half an hour as she wanted to make sure she was getting something on which she would enjoy playing and learning. The staff were very friendly and offered assistance but were not at all pushy. The atmosphere is very laid-back and welcoming. When she found one she liked, the employee took the time to tune it for her and also put it into a gig-bag for her to keep, free of charge! We decided to buy local to help support a small business and it really paid off!

I’ve been in the store twice in the last week because I was trying to repair a guitar myself. The guys here understood what I was needing, made suggestions, and even supplied me with some small pieces I that I needed. I was unable to make the repair so I took the guitar in and they saw what I needed, quickly made the repair for me. It was minor, and I’m a newbie, they didn’t even charge me! This is our store for sure.

Walking into the shop, knowing my dad walked the place himself way back when, made the experience feel special to me. The staff was very kind and helpful, they answered whatever questions I had for them, as if they knew what I was gonna ask before I even said!

I brought my acoustic guitar in to have a fret job done. SOOOO pleased with how it plays now! True professionals there! Plays better than when I bought it !

Great place. Have stopped there many times over the years. Purchased a few guitars, etc. Sad to see them shutting down.

Many fond memories, 3 guitars still played regularly, will miss Rainbow Music, but looking forward to the next chapter...

This is the place to go to for rock band equipment. If you have a violin, cello, or anything of that nature, well I’m sorry, but those instruments are not part of the musical rainbow. Sad times. Marked off for not clearly stating this in their Google Description.

As always, I am more than happy to come into the shop. By luck I always happen to get there before they start to get busy and because of that there is always someone there to take the time out to personally go into more depth in explaining answers to many of the detailed questions I truly want to know more about. I’ve learned so much from being taught how noise is picked up as it travels down unbalanced cables to more importantly trying to figure out “Now which cables do I need for what?”Yes, all things I “could have” “should have” learned through some better sifting online - but honestly with so much going on in my life and the world.... prioritizing the time to take out to learn about XLR Cables lost out to figuring out what was for dinner that night.Although many might say it’s all part of the job, I tell you that what they over at the Rainbow Music on Leonard (where it had remained proud for as long as I can remember) they do out of passion! This was a cool guitar shop! Had a lot of cool things for playing and its cool cuz, you can go in there completely broke and pick up and play a 3,000$ gibson... If your heart so desires.

These guys are the only local luthiers that I trust with working on any vintage guitars. They always do a superb job make my guitars play and sound so much better. Their demeanor can seem cold at times I admit, but if you get to talking with them they are super helpful and knowledgable with what they do. Highly recommend them for any guitar work.

I’m only writing this because a few weeks after my purchase, the disposition of this employee still irks me.Came in looking for earplugs. I attend quite a few concerts monthly and was looking for a nicer pair. Was greeted by a younger gentleman with round glasses. He was very helpful and showed me the options they had. Rainbow carried this really nice pair for $35 which is pretty expensive. Another older man (maybe 60s) was commenting/ answering questions about my pending purchase as well. After mentioning that my last pair were dropped during a show the night before and were lost in the crowd, the older guy says, “maybe you’ll take care of these ones better”. I don’t know if it was his inflection, but I felt like I was being belittled by my father and that I didn’t take care of my stuff as it was.Luckily, I didn’t feel like going to a 3rd store for the day, because I needed them that evening for a show. So I purchased them. Being earplugs they were a final purchase, which I understand, but even the was he was speaking about my question about returns made me feel like a child. Maybe I was being sensitive, which I doubt, but I think this older dude needs to check his attitude when speaking to younger customers.

Nice music store in Grand Rapids. I have visited on multiple occasions, and the staff is always polite and helpful. They take the time to explain product features, as well as pros and cons. They have even sold me less because I was going to buy an unnecessary item. Their prices are very reasonable, comparable and sometimes less than online retailers. I highly recommend this store.

Love my local music store! Great customer service, wide selection. Took music lessons there, so awesome! I bought 2 basses, 2 amps, a mixer and misc other equipment. These guys are super knowledgeable. Definitely my go to place for my bass equipment. If you are in west Michigan and do music you NEED to visit this place. Ignore the bad reviews. Theyre just jealous lol.

These are a friendly bunch of guys with a lot of experience on guitars. I had a good experience every time Ive been there whether for strings or to purchase an instrument. Im new to the Northwest side of town so Im not a local or someone thats well known in the music culture around here, but they still seem to treat me like I be long and I will return again to spend money in there just because they are courteous.

I like to support local businesses, but I’m done with this place , I get it you think your better than everyone else because you own a guitar store so you two sit on your thrones looking down your nose at the people you think you are better than... it would have taken you a couple minutes to restring my guitar on Wednesday night at 6, in your EMPTY store , I would have paid you to do so, I’m fine with driving out to guitar center from now on , hopefully they will open closer and put you guys out of business

Tech was a good guy yet he butchered a simple set up on a brand new guitar. So much where,after a second opinion, I needed a new nut, bridge and fret dress after taking my guitar here... On a brand new guitar. The sales associate did not have too much knowledge on the equipment he was selling, either. I am pretty novice in the effect world but this gentleman did not seem to have a clue. Also the vibe in the store seemed like I was an out-sider and the sales associate didn’t look too thrilled. The tech was very welcoming, though. At any rate my manufacture was involved and they are actually paying for the guitar to be fixed (not a great sign for this tech). Maybe it was a fluke, I don’t know. It is just a shame because it’s local and the joint seemed nice but if you need work on a guitar than just be weary and do research before bringing it here. Make sure you and the tech are on the same page with what work you want to be done before you leave the store. I thought we were on the same page but, yikes. The 2 stars are not one star because the tech was a nice guy.

I brought in my amplifier for repair they said it would be two weeks got a call three days later that the job is finished not only that it was cheaper than the estimate great service great store I highly recommend rainbow music

Ive played music for over 25 years, Ive recorded toured etc. So Ive been to my share of music stores, I actually bought my first guitar at rainbow music in the early 90s. I went in there a few years ago to buy a microphone cord and they only had one left the gentleman working told me he couldnt sell it to me because he needed it even though it was tagged and on display for sale, I actually thought he was kidding at first and asked how much it was and he reiterated he wasnt going to sell it to me because he realized he needed it, what kind of store works like that? Needless to say Ive never gone there again and Ive taking my business to Guitar Center as much as I like to shop local I also like to be respected as a customer.

Love shopping and supporting local - they have great prices and are conveniently located. The only negatives are that the service is a little hit or miss and their knowledge of effect pedals is apparently nonexistent.I really only shop here for accessories or quick fixes to problems, but Id recommend doing your research on what you need ahead of time.

Really disappointed in this store. The selection seems great, but the service was non-existent. My friend and I were the only 2 customers in the store, yet no one offered assistance or acknowledged us. My friend asked for a particular part for his drum kit and was told, rather rudely, that no such thing existed. When he explained what he needed, in the hope that they would offer suggestions, the salesperson rolled his eyes and referred us to another store. Maybe they were having an off day, but Ill be spending my money elsewhere unless they are my only alternative.

This place has been on the west side since the 70s and I continue to buy and sell gear here. I have had multiple amps, pedals, and guitars serviced here and always look forward to my weekly visits. I like their consignment policy and have sold and bought alot of used gear. Jon is always fun to chat with and Pete is probably the best luthier in the area. Great local music store.

They have a nice selection of instruments, but lack in customer service. I will go back regardless. Its rare to find a good music store these days and rainbow music is an icon in the west Michigan area.

I really like this music shop. The guys that work there are knowledgeable and they dont do high pressure sales like Guitar Center. They have a good variety of equipment and very reasonable prices. Its good to support local business, but that aside, this place is better anyways.

Great people to deal with! I called around to find my daughter a guitar and these guys are where I ended up. They ordered the guitar with 10% down and while I was standing there. I paid the rest and picked it up. My daughter is going to love it! I loved that they went the extra mile to help me make my daughters birthday so special. Thanks so much!

First visit today at Rainbow Music. I was kindly served by Pete with very thoughtful advise and his knowledge. I now have a nice Snark clip on tuner, new set of light strings and nice pickguard for my custom OM style build project.

Rainbow has knowledgeable, friendly, talented staff. They have good fair prices, and do excellent repair work. Ive had guitars serviced there as well as guitar amps and sound system amps.They do a good job. I would suggest them to any musician or sound tech.

From my opinion these are more then fair people to deal with! They have treated me well, and they have also helped, me out along the ways of knowing my guitars ! and what kind of products i may be purchasing before buying as well. The price for repairs is decent, but this company has no idea what customer service is. The two old guys that handle repairs are both jerks, and the young guy always stares at you in a creepy, awkward way when you step inside. He continues to do so when you sit down to try out an instrument. It makes me feel very uncomfortable. Case in point, go to RIT Music. They have a way better selection of instruments and amazing customer service.

Always get a bad attitude from the owner when I come in! The time before I came in looking for a Telecaster he tried to sell me a parts bin tele made from different brand parts for the same price as I could buy a good used Mexican tele!!! It was incorrectly wired and didnt even work! I will never come here again.

The first time I bought an item here the clerk criticized the purchase the moment I had a receipt in my hand. The second item I bought used had an issue that was initially dismissed by them , only to find out it was a greater flaw that caused permanent issues 3 months later. Add to this there is always a guy behind the counter is griping about something. Great to browse. Never buying there again.

Got a pretty good deal of 3 sets of electric guitar strings.

I have been there twice and both times it seems that I was a bother to them. The first time I asked if they take local artists cds as I saw they did have some on the shelf. The one behind the counter said as long as they were professionally made. I brought some in today and the same gentleman said we dont take them. I dont know if they have a problem with me ( I only been there twice) OR if they have a problem with veterans as I was wearing my Desert Storm ball cap. Needless to say I am finding some other place to go from now on. NOT too happy with their service.

A great place to get your musical instruments

This store is quite great actually, there are helpful people and they have pretty much anything that you need for any stringed instrument, they mot definitely know what the are doing, they are very educated in guitars and such

I took my fender Deville in to Rainbow mucic to have one of the volume knobs rewired because it was shorting out, (the other one was fine) I said Id be willing to pay up to 100 dollars to have it fixed, otherwise Id just live with it. when I came into pick it up it was 100 dollars on the nose for the new wire... I thought well ok atleast its fixed... I hadnt played the amp in a while even after it was fixed...but it was stored in doors, room temp etc... When I plugged it in to play it the other day it worked briefly, and then shorted out again but now neither of them work... when I called Rainbow to see if they could help me out, they explained to me that they didnt techinically fix it , but that it was subcontracted out,.... I wish they would have told me that from the begining, part of the reason I brought to Rainbow, is because I figured they would stand by the work as a business, i guess I was wrong, now Im in the market for new amp, but I probably wont be going to Rainbow
