This was one of the best stops on our motorcycle trip. We took Uber here from the hotel and had an amazing time. We had a great evening with great staffing.

Best coffee Ive had. Forget about Starbucks and Dunkin, this is the place to go. Its a very quaint place in downtown Dubuque. I drove in from out of town and chose the first place that seemed local. What a great choice! If you have the chance to visit the place I hope youll be as pleasantly surprised with the quality like I was. Dont forget to tip!

We visited this funky little coffee shop during a weekend visit to Dubuque. We ordered cold brews which were super flavorful and had great service! Love the Golden Girls theme on the inside and would be curious to visit at night when this place turns into a bar!

Excellent atmosphere, stopped by after a long walk with kids along the Mississippi River walk. Orange soda for the kids and latte for me and a round of chess. We even spotted a working accordion there where my boys got to play it for fun. Super friendly owner and if you are a Cubs fan.... you have a place here! At night you can enjoy a nice selection of Microbrews as well!

Was in Dubuque, IA today picking up a JD tractor. After making my wife wait 1 hour she told me I needed to treat her to a coffee. She said she found a place on Google... Monks. What a find.It reminded me of the old, 2-story, brick buildings found in German Village in Columbus, OH... inviting and quaint, a real feel good sort of place.Inside you are surrounded by brick, a gemisch of comfortable seating and various pieces of art and bric-a-brac... an intimate setting shared with people that were both friendly and engaging. They offer a bar with a fine assortment of whiskeys and craft beers along with the regular players, various sweet treats, possibly breakfast sandwiches (as mentioned by a neighboring merchant), live music in the lower level... and first and foremost coffee.My wife had a Chai Latte... Rich and Creamy. She loved it. I had a cappuccino... It was perfect. I dont say this lightly. It is my ongoing quest. I rarely give 5-stars for anything. I always tell friends something has to make my toes bend back and my eyes to roll into my noggin before I would doll out a 5... But a perfect cup of cappuccino and a place so darned comfortable gets it hands down... Kudos!!!

It was decent. The cappucino has a very deeo bold taste and comes in a good size portion. The cafe itself is very welcoming and homelike. Would be a fun place to meet new people!

Fantastic little coffee Cafe which doubles as a bar at night. Funky like old Greenwich Village. Gets pretty good morning traffic from the locals. Wish we were staying longer!

The coffee here is DELICIOUS! For those looking for a bite to eat, they sell small snacks (chips, cookies, etc.) no cooked food. Nice servers :) thanks Monks!!

Cool place. Not loud in the morning. Lots of cozy places to sit. Good coffee.

Old house converted into an eccentric coffee house by day, bar by night. Lots of potential for a great atmosphere that unfortunately faded quickly by a barista who showed no interest in his customers other than ringing up the order. Brewed coffee was average. Ill give Monks another try if I get back to the area, but for this trip my coffee house choice is Charlottes on 11th & White.

A Great Dive of a Coffee Shop, a really good place to hang and plug. Alcoholic beverages also available. Staff and Owners are really friendly, kind and laid back. Wonderful Artwork put up for viewing and possibly purchasing. Unfortunately is NOT handicap accessible.

Monks has always treated me great. Good coffee at good prices. Quirky vibe going on with a true mix of clientele. Also they have fruit and thoughtful selection if beer and liquor. Cool artwork throughout. Another plus they seem to be thoroughly involved with the community.

Stopped for a quickie and it was a goodie. Hot Latte good, iced latte excellent. Variety of exotic beers including aged lager from netherlands for $11. We stuck with a local brew for mych cheaper Foosball in basement. Funny how everyone stopped what they were doing to watch us walk in. The cafe is freakier than us.

We visited in search of some iced coffee. It was an unexpected atmosphere, ordering coffee at a bar. But very neat! The employee was friendly and got our order correct. Prices were very reasonable.

Popular, full, loud and friendly. Had a hot chocolate. Well made but a bit tepid. Comfortable seating. Relaxing atmosphere. Patrons are good-natured and talkative. Some even travel from wisconsin just to visit this coffeehouse.

My favorite coffee/ bar in town. Casey and Trisha do a fantastic job in providing a cool and unique place. Several different seating areas including two outdoor seating areas.A large selection of bottle beers unique tap beers spirits and coffee drinks offer something for everyone.The art on the walls changes frequently and features local artists. Definitely worth a stop

Pretty great place for meeting people, playing pool, or being by yourself. Open late. The coffee is pretty good. Cozy comes to mind. I wish there was similar place near where I live.

Best bar/coffee shop in town for intellectual/artsy types. Great prices. Bartenders are great. DJ rocks. Owners Trish and Casey are lovely people. Trish leads a fun yoga class and Casey makes the best Americano around.

I had a mocha and it was delicious. My wife had a chai and it was also very good. The decor and atmosphere was very eclectic. They played same tunes over a few times while we played a board game. All tables were packed on a Sunday afternoon.

I spent countless days and nights hanging here in the late 90s when it was Take 5. As Monks, this place is still the best coffee shop in Dubuque. Dirty, Gritty, DAMN FINE COFFEE. And best of all, no pandering.

Its an old home revamped for cofee and drinks. Place is decorrated with stuff probably found in garage sales or junk yards. They dont put themselves out as a high end place but rather a hipster joint with interesting drink and they nail it. You know what you are getting when you walk in here and they perform above that expectation.

This place has a warm and unique atmosphere. If youre visiting Dubuque, or even just a resident, I suggest stopping by. I got their hot chocolate, and my God its the best thing Ive ever tasted; not even my favorite foods top that. The employees are also friendly and make you feel welcome.

Great atmosphere for younger people. A grand selection of beer to choose from. Friendly and helpful employees who actually knew about the beer they had. Everyone there was really chill and drinks were fairly priced. Definitely recommend if bored on the weekend or even weeknight.

Visited here for a quick black coffee on a trip from the QC. Yummy and reasonably priced with a great atmosphere. Reminds me of my favorite kaffe bar in the QC, Rozz Tox!

Best coffee shop in Dubuque. I am somewhat of a coffee snob and always on the lookout for a good dark roast. Monks has great service and an interesting layout. For example, people watch on the main floor or go downstairs for a mean game of bumper pool! Bottom line, however, is a great cup of coffee that will keep me coming back.

This was hands down my favorite spot in Debuque! The atmosphere is fun, positive, laid back, and welcoming. I very much enjoyed my iced vanilla latte, it was full of rich flavor! I enjoyed the surrounding art and photography exhibit as well! I loved meeting the artist and reading about the amazing women in Debuque. MONKS I WISH WE HAD YOU OUT HERE IN VEGAS! Thanks for a great experience!
