Great selection and availability. But perhaps limited return policy drives customer traffic away and keeps inventory high... any attempt to return an item in store is merchandise credit only. Once they have your money, they generally keep it. Only online purchases mailed back get refunded to original payment method. You pay for shipping and it must be received within 28 days of purchase, or you get store credit. So definitely do your research, know exactly what your buying because youre committed to it, especially if its a big ticket or specialty item.

They had an item I purchased with a missing part and I also paid more than what it was priced for due to it being an incorrect price in the system. I dont find myself driving by that often, they have been closed often. I finally got to return in months later and they accepted the exchange for a new item even though it was beyond the return time frame on their policy, however the incorrect price they said was on me. If they price their own items wrong I feel that is on them.Dont sell items with missing parts and dont price stuff wrong and I wouldnt have to waste my time returning an item.I just wish there was more understanding from the staff when I tried to return it versus more of an explanation as to why I am returning it so late.

I was in buying backpacking gear today. Ken spent FOREVER with me and my ten year old son making sure things were properly fitted and that we had the essentials for our trips. He even showed us how to operate our stove and explained the water filtration system incredibly clearly. He gave us a ton of tips for ways to make setting up and packing more efficient and comfortable. We had to order my pack and he said they would still fit my pack to me properly when it comes in the mail. Very very impressed! Thanks again, Ken!

Spent about an hour in there today with the family. Got great helpful and friendly service from one sales guy for a little bit. But then the employees began chatting to each other about whatever and completely ignored me looking at boots, would have bought a pair but since no one wanted to help me I decided not to. We even spent almost $500.00 in there today.

Matt was super helpful. I had a list of items for an overnight camping trip to the Bonds and he walked me through each gear item. He knows his stuff. Super friendly. I like when you walk into a retail store, are greeted and asked if you need help which is what happened at EMS.

Was really happy with all the help I got today at ems. Picking out & sizing my pack. They didnt have my size for the hiking pack I wanted, but one of the guys called around & found one. They are holding it for me to pick up tomorrow! Pretty excited.

Not a single person acknowledged my family or me the entire time we were in the store. I tried to try on some shorts, but the fitting room was locked and no one would help me to open it. Everyone working, except the poor girl at the register, was clearly unhappy to be there and the man with the beard and nose ring was trying so hard to be cool that he could hardly function. When I asked the too cool for school bearded guy if they had a restroom I could use he was clearly p***ed that I had the nerve to approach him at all. The customer service at this EMS used to be phenomenal, but sadly I dont particularly want to shop there again.

Just drove 7 hours to pick up a bike I purchased online to have the bike guy be pompous and abrasive, and the assistant manager Jillian could have cared less and showed very little concern or empathy after I just spent close to $300 at their store. All I wanted was the seat to be adjusted before I left, but evidently that was asking too much. Thanks for the warm welcome New Hampshire.- Delaware

Walked into EMS today (12/22, around noon) to purchase some Thule products for my wife for Christmas. As some of you my know, Thule products can be confusing depending on what you need. There wasnt many employees available because the store was quite busy which was ok. I waited patiently until I saw some, I asked the gentlemen for help and his reply was what do you want. Not a great way to start off, he provided little to no help. I proceeded to figure it out myself which took about an hour. After thinking I had all the right stuff I went to check out. I asked the friendly lady at the counter for help but she didnt have much knowledge in the product. She called for help and the same guy that blew me off before showed up, and guess what hes the manager! Needless to say I wont be back. Ive bought alot of stuff from ems throughout the years and regret to inform you that you can count me out as a life long customer. I bought the products just so my wife had presents under the tree but will return them and buy from somewhere else just out of spite. My experience today was absolutely horrifying on how unprofessional your manager is. I hope you can correct your issues for the sake of any other customer.

I bought some static line from the store for rock climbing today. When I realized I was home with out it, the manager had no desire to check the tape recording to see if the rope left the store. I want my money back or proof that my rope left the store. What can I do. I have spent a lot of money on climbing gear at store. I have never had a problem in the past with the staff being friendly and knowledgeable. At the least credit me some of my rope back. Please.

I have spent countless hours in this store in recent years, but I will not set foot in there again. I overheard one employee refer to another, who was not present at the time, as a “f-ing loser”, in a way that was neither called for nor facetious. They said it in front of an older employee, who failed to respond in any way. The sales staff are horrid, and I would not bring young children into this establishment that clearly does not take character into account when hiring their staff. If I could rate this a zero, I would.

I have shopped at this store a lot lately. Spent a lot of money here too. Last week I purchased a set of Black Diamond hiking polls which were fairly expensive ($140). Took them out and the poll bent on me first time out. I took them back to the store to try and return them as this poll should not have bent in snow. I had my receipt in hand and talked with the store manager Ken Bouville (spelling could be off their but you get the hint). He said he would not take them back or refund me for this product. He also told me I must have wedged them between rocks and thats how they bent. I didnt realize he was hiking with me last week and saw what happened? Impressive! Amazing that this guy could see into the past in a place where he wasnt and tell me what happened.Due to this experience Im done with this store. I recommend going right accross the street to LL Bean. They have the same stuff and actually stand behind what they sell, unlike this place. Dont waste your time with a store that wont stand behind what they sell.Cheers,Andrew
