This breakfast diner was beyond exceptional. No amount of stars can express how much I enjoyed my experience here. First of all, Patty, whom I thought was the owner based on her being so welcoming and friendly, made my experience even more memorable! The food and coffee was fantastic! The prices are unbeatable! The atmosphere was cozy and interesting as well (it has numerous vintage photographs on the walls). Chicago was my first stop on a two week trip and it was my first time being in Illinois. As someone that didn’t know the area, I simply looked up breakfast places after waking up from my one night stay and winged it. Exceeded my expectations. I even wished I had cash on me because everyone that works there deserves a tip! I will be back whenever I get the chance to be in Chicago again. Thanks, Johnnie’s!

Sometimes you simply want a great omlette, skillet, or classic breakfast. This place is around the corner from the hip and new places on Randolph st. but will have no line, lovely service, and a homey diner atmosphere. If you are in the mood for a classic breakfast fresh made however you like, go to Johnnies Snack Shop.

Great inexpensive meal in the heart of the West loop. Everything around there has gotten so pricey, but you can still get it down on earth meal for a decent price, But you gotta come before 2:00 pm. The people are friendly and the food is good, what more can you ask? The lunch special is like 10 bucks plus tax!

I went into this establishment because I saw all the wonderful reviews on Google and I really wanted a skillet too! Lol I walked into the restaurant was met with no greeting whatsoever. I walked up to the counter to order and it seems I was very much so bothering the waitress/cashier. I try to continue with my order because hey maybe she’s just busy and having a bad day (there were only three tables occupied). As I ask her a question about what’s included she begins to bark at me “like I just told you there is nothing that comes with it.” I reply “I was asking you what in the skillet because I don’t like onions and mushrooms. No onions please and can you add bacon” Still fidgeting and clearly annoyed she replies “ okay no onions and now you wanna add bacon in the skillet too!” At this moment I just decided to tell her have a better day. As I was walking out I overheard the greeting to the man behind me which I never received.

If you want to support a small, local business, go to Johnnies. The food is very comforting and a great value, but above all else, the staff is so welcoming. Colette took the effort to get to know our names after frequent visits, and always makes sure that we are well taken care of. Dora is the sweetest and funniest motherly figure and knows our orders by heart. She even took the opportunity to get a product that I briefly mentioned while placing my order, without me even asking or requesting. Talk about great hospitality! If you ever get a vanilla or hazelnut flavored coffee, youre welcome. :) One of the cooks, Jose, always says hello to me when I walk in and it makes my trip every time I visit! They always make sure that we are well-fed, caffeinated, and in good health, and we love grabbing a bite here.Their service is always quick, their meals are filling and full of flavor, and their place in the West Loop community flourishes. I would highly recommend to those who live in the area, those who are visiting, or those who want to have a great, homey experience dining out!

I was recently in Johnnies to get breakfast to-go. I entered without a mask on and went to order food. When I made my order the server/order taker aggressively informed me that I should where my mask inside but no one ELSE in the restaurant was wearing one. Multiple people came into the restaurant without masks to dine in while I was sitting down waiting for food. I was the only one asked to wear a mask. I was also the only black person in the restaurant. Very weird encounter!!!!

This was a fantastic spot for me and my grandchildren’s dinner. I got the Skewer family pack for all of us. The staff is very nice and they where able to do half pork and half chicken. Also, there sauce is very tasty. The young man that was wearing a hat was very friendly and I had a conversation with him while I waited for my food. Overall this was a great dinner and the same quality as the chophouse. I definitely have to try the pizza, I have heard great things about it.

Johnnies deserves all the love it can get. Fantastic diner food at an amazing price served by the nicest people without a whiff of pretension to be found.Sure - I enjoy a new take on an old favorite sometimes. And then other times I just want some darn good pancakes with perfectly fried overeasy eggs, delightfully crispy house-made hash browns, and a nice hunk of griddled ham, with a big glass of OJ to keep them company. No fuss, always on point, and out the door for well under $25 even after a generous tip!Beautiful. Just beautiful.

This place is the quintessential old school diner, and it does not disappoint. This is the kind-of place that often is frequented by local police, so you know two things; the food is good and reasonably priced. I have had many breakfasts and lunches here over the last 20 years, and I always welcome the opportunity to stop by when in the area. This diner is located just West of downtown Chicago, and North of Greektown. It is becoming increasing difficult to park a car in this neighborhood because of the increase in new buildings and more people living in the area. Patience will find a place to park, if youre driving here. I will stop by at every opportunity I have. Did I say that the services friendly, fast, and top notch?

Dont let the outside fool you. Its very unassuming, but the inside is decorated nicely along with old, city related photographs on the wall. Ive been coming here for years and enjoy the breakfast...no complaints. Staff is friendly and service is as it should be. In the late morning, its never overly crowded, which I enjoy! Parking can be challenging and currently there is construction going on in the area, so traffic is more congested than usual. Definitely worth stopping in for breakfast! Make sure to say hello to CPD if you see them on their lunch break!

This place seems to be well known with the local residents around the area. It doesnt look like much from the outside, but the inside is pretty nicely done up. Its got a real old, nostalgic diner feel to it. Plus, the prices are really really reasonable. The food isnt that great but you do get a lot of it for the price you pay. I guess thats why locals come here regularly to get their meals. The service is quick and friendly, the food doesnt take too long to come. So its a great place for a quick bite if youre not too picky about the quality of the food.

I’m not from here, so my hotel concierges told me to walk over to the West Loop if I’m into good food for brunch. Everything I passed down Randolph was fancy, shi-shi, white table cloth-seriously expensive looking.... and mostly closed. I briefly stood inside the Little Goat around the corner, which was packed to the gills at 11:30 on a Thursday morning, and contemplated a still at the crowded counter, but it was SO LOUD and uncomfortable looking, and couldn’t do it. On my way back, I happened to glance over at Johnnies and wandered in. Oh what a great decision this was!! I got a comfortable 4-top to myself, and maybe the world’s greatest server. She was super kind and attentive, the food came in like 2 minutes, the portions enormous, and everything tasted excellent. No frills - just amazing, traditional fare in an excellent environment. The price was so low, I tipped my server what I would have spent at the other joint. Those poor people are paying three times what I am and probably still waiting to sit down.Thank you, Johnnies!!!
