Fun atmosphere and lots of outdoor seating. Affordable, classic pub style food. Not many beers stood out as extremely memorable, but overall solid and most enjoyable.

The Belmont location has a driver that needs to be taken off of the road as he is a menace and a danger to residents and those who are traveling down Franklin Street towards the intersection. Friday night about 8:15 PM their box truck was headed back to their facility and the driver sped up and intentionally came towards me in the opposite lane and ran me off the road. He then proceeded to tell me that he ran me off of the road on purpose because my high beams were on. I had just come from the hospital where my brother was in very serious condition my mind was not on headlights. It wasn’t dark yet and my car is very low profile while he was in that large box truck so my headlights did not affect him one way or the other. If he has so much road rage that he feels the need to run people off of the road because of their headlights then he has no business driving a commercial vehicle. He needs to be removed from his position as he is a danger to everyone in this neighborhood. I personally will never purchase another product from this company again and will tell all that I know about this maniac driver. I was traveling alone that evening And it is quite concerning to be a woman traveling alone and having some maniac number one barrel into my lane running me off of the road and number two to threaten me that he will do it again if he ever sees me with my bright lights on again. This whole event was uncalled for and it’s not the behavior of a rational person. He should not be behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle.

The Champion Taproom is the perfect place to go to meet friends (safely given the times) and relax enjoying new exciting beers and listening to music that is always different and never boring. The environment is perfect to relax and just enjoy. Its a place to even go by yourself and sit enjoying a beer while reading a book and watching the sunset over downtown Charlottesville. The staff is always inviting and kind and warm. Definitely a place to go as a visitor or as a local and be a regular.

Champion has always showed great promise and is starting to deliver. The spot is cozy if a little secluded, and they do a good job of getting food trucks to swing by. Recommend the Black Me Stout, Positive Jam, and Shower Beer to start with.

Limited kitchen but they make the most of everything that comes out of it. Don’t miss the Missile Cheese Dip as an appetizer if looking for a lot of flavor and a taste snack. Beers are smooth and anything but subtle. Tends to favor the hoppy side of the spectrum. Need to bring back the Killer Kolsch!

This post is specific to the location at the Shops at Stonefield. I went to grab food and a beer. We sat at the bar, at least an end of the bar with open seating, and got menus from the bartender. After ordering a beer and an appetizer, we really didnt see her again. She mainly stayed at the other end of the bar chatting with coworkers.I was surprised, since we asked for food and had menus, that no one readily checked on us. We were not offered waters or anything. I know it is a bar, but others were doing the same as us, and they were getting continued service. I finally got the attention of one of the other bartenders and he came over, but even that was a delayed reaction. We ordered food and finished our beers. We never received an offer to get another beer, get another drink, additional sales at this point seemed to be the last thing the servers wanted. They just chatted amongst themselves. The food we ordered was lackluster at best. Well, the chips were good, but served with oddly out of place dips.We expected to receive some sort of follow up from the servers, but at the end, we chose to not eat our entrees. We had to flag down the servers again to try to leave after sitting, not eating for some time.We paid and left.We ended up going to the national chain just down the street. The service there was exceptional. We want to support local, and great service can make bad or mediocre food palatable. But our experience was bookended by bad, unenthusiastic and even complacent service. I really hope they figure things out. This could be a fun place to go...but...

The outdoor space is nice. That being said, the service was slow. It took 30 minutes to get a menu and another 35 to get our food. The food we waited 35 minutes for was a handful of Ruffles and cold cheese. Not only was it slow and cold, it cost $6.

Review №27

Went here with a friend for dinner about a month ago. The food was fantastic, the wait time and our server not so much. He pointed us to a table when we arrived then we sat there for over 15 minutes before he came over to take our order. He was very forgetful with our drinks the whole rest of the evening. At least the Covid friendly outdoor seating area they offer is very comfortable. I wish Champion had a couple of good non-hoppy, easy drinking lager or wheat beer choices on their menu. Most of their beers are IPAs or just too bitter for me. The vegan philly, which took almost an hour, was insanely good though and management really stepped up to try and make up for the long wait and poor service which we greatly appreciated. We will definitely be giving this place another try and Ill keep my review updated.

Good spot for a couple beers. The gose and helles were both tasty. They are outdoor dog friendly at only 3 tables currently due to their Covid policies. The tables are not covered so the weather can make it more difficult to enjoy a beer here with the pups. The staff was super nice though and the beer was solid.

This is a great local brewery in Charlottesville. We go specially during the spring and summer time. We seat outside and grab some food at the food truck, which is a different cousin style every day (Mexican, Thai, American, etc). They also have different beers to taste. This is a family-friendly environment. So you can go with kids in the open terrace.

Top 5 favorite breweries who makes one of top 3 favorite beers, Fruit Casket. This unfortunately a seasonal but still has other greats. I wish they had a wider food option but I understand why they do not. If you like good beer, highly recommended whether you live here or are visiting.

Good small local brewery with good quality beer. Had a pint of their Flagship beer, Missile, which is a solid IPA and a flight of some seasonal beers, including a lagers, Porter, and double IPA. I found the beer very tasty and very easy to drink/enjoyable. Didnt try any of their food.

Champion is my go-to brewery in Charlottesville. In my opinion, no other place in town compares to its taproom in terms of friendliness and atmosphere. Its always a delight just to hang out inside or, especially, on the patio. When it comes to beer, I love the rotating taps while the flagship Missile IPA is everything an IPA needs to be. As a Belgian native, I particularly appreciate their Belgian-style beers. Although its not always available, their Saison is the best beer Ive had in the U.S. so far--and I dont say that lightly. Additionally, the service is excellent and down-to-earth. Strongly, strongly recommended!

Review №48

The beer is always delicious, food is fairly priced, and the pretension level is dialed way back compared to spots on the mall a few blocks away. Loved the basement dive vibe. The service was horrible. When my wife let staff know that a pipe was dripping on our table before settling our bill, the visibly hungover bartender sneered, Its thermodynamics. Boom. A few minutes later a customer gets a splat of that sweet ol mystery pipe juice on his shirt as he walks by and looks completely mortified. Sneering in defensiveness instead of listening to well-intentioned feedback from customers who dug your spot is a great way to lose em.

Came to Champion for Fathers Day. We paid the bill, but they never returned our credit card. if your policy is to hold cards for a tab, it should be returned without request (the person who closed the check was not the card holder). Every attempt to reach the brewery by phone has yielded nothing. a trip back to the brewery will be required.

Nice beers at this brewery in downtown Charlottesville. They have a great selection of IPAs but arent afraid to try other types either (gose, Belgian brown). I recommend the double IPAs, both the Golden One and the Fruitless, if they are available. Their Missile IPA, available in cans at wine and beer stores, is a great beer as well if you cant stop by the brewery in person. Outdoor seating in a patio covered by a tent. Dogs allowed on the patio only.
