This shop has the heart to make it in a larger market, Im not sure how they make profit with the not so large clientele in Cedar Rapids. Wonderful concept and mostly stellar customer service. The meat counter guy was a little bothered by my questions about what was made in-house, the packaged food at the end of the counter I learned. However, a man, who appeared to be the proprietor, took the time to ask me if there was anything he could assist me locating when I was scanning the tea section. The dates on some of the product were cutting it close and the prepared items were over priced, 17 for a trout and goat cheese demo, but I went for it. Support your locally owned businesses because regardless of the venue size they are still small business!!

Love it here. Staff is friendly, good produce, all my favorite natural food brands, nice bulk options, and a good bakery (the buns for less than a buck are the bomb). It is a little small so they might not have absolutely everything, but they clearly advertise what is local, what is organic, and every once in a blue moon they have ugly produce.Ex: broken carrots that they put together in a bulk bag for less than a bundle of pretty unbroken carrots.

Wonderful, helpful staff. Like most stores they have a meat, fish, salad bar, diary, chips, beer, wine, and large selection of uncured meats in their refrigerated section and a nice produce section. Parking lot is behind front facing street. Becoming a member saves you 20%.

I have always loved New Pi. My true appreciation began when COVID hit. I didn’t feel comfortable going out to get groceries and was scared about the quality we’d receive. Once I found out that New Pi offered pick-up, I knew my groceries would be handled with care. I’ve come to rely on them for our family’s grocery needs. We also purchased their vegan Mother’s Day brunch and were blown away. I can’t recommend New Pi enough. They are simply the best!!! Thank you for the quality and consistency! Never disappointed.I also want to add that the CR New Pi staff are awesome!! (I’m sure they all are, but we live in CR).

Joke after Covid. Overpriced everything before the pandemic, especially the salad, and the only reason I went there was because I thought the open salad bar would be--open again. Silly me. Got 3 1 oz. slices of chicken, croutons in a little plastic cup, and Ceasar dressing. Still overpriced at $7.99 for wilted lettuce and 3 oz. of chicken that tasted like salmon.Used to be a staple. Never going there again.

A supervisor gave us a tour. He was friendly. Good selection.

Just as good as a Whole Foods, only better. Better because it’s not owned by Bezos. Since it’s a Co-Op, it’s owned by the local customers. They carry an excellent assortment of whatever you need and the prices aren’t too killer either. If you’re local, get you an owner card and reap the benefits.

Basically a local version of Whole Foods which is great because Amazon owns WF and they are doing just fine financially. New Pi has a great selection of healthy foods which is really a must if you care about yourself. If you want to die a handful of years after starting to collect social security, there is a Papa Murphys across the street. If you want to enjoy grandchildren, come to New Pi.

Always more than satisfied with the quality and selection of food items here. And love that they offer so many locally sourced items!

Amazing choise of meats and pre-packaged meals!

I always love visiting New Pioneer, even if this location doesnt quite have the selection of the other two stores in the Iowa City area. There is a fair amount of vegan food, as compared to other local markets, though the bulk section could definitely be expanded.The cafe has a wide assortment of food, including lots of (clearly labeled) vegan options. Love the Rock and Roll Avocado Tofuwich! The bakery section likewise has a great selection, including some vegan pastries.

Get the Papagayo sandwich, add turkey, enjoy! Their Kombucha tea is fantastic too and the beer and wine choices are some of the best in town.

It is a great place to shop and feel safe with what you purchase. Also the staff are always pleasant and helpful.

Its ok. Snotty arrogant staff. The workers in the small and limited produce section should really focus on personal hygiene before handing and stocking perishables. Oily hair, dirty hands , nails and body odor. Unacceptable makes someone not want to shop there

Prices are sky high. At least in local small towns the farmers/growers offer fresh foods at a fair price, not here.

I’ve been using their pickup service since March and now use it weekly. Their employees do a great job picking produce and packing my groceries. Frozen items are packed well enough to stay frozen by the time I get home. And my order is always brought out safely by a friendly person wearing a mask and gloves. There have always been ample delivery slots available. And there’s always the usual added plus of finding locally grown or sourced items. New Pioneer really has stepped up to serve the community during the COVID crisis adjusting their pickup model to better accommodate customers, adjusting store hours constantly to better serve seniors and others and putting in place safety measures for their employees. They seemed to be early in the game for all of these things. And I just feel better shopping at and supporting a local business.

They have so many options to choose from and yet, you know when you’re shopping there, everything is ethically reviewed before it goes on shelves. It’s so easy to be responsible with New Pioneer! They do all the nitty-gritty work for you. So many local options as well, you can’t beat it.

TOP-NOTCH selection of produce in the area and just an overall great selection. The staff is all very friendly and helpful and they made my sister a great birthday cake!It’s also great that they’ve set a mask policy (that the staff all follow) in the store during the COVID pandemic that shows they take their customers and employees health very seriously, even if that may cost them a stubborn customer or two!

High quality food. Its not a big store but spend some time browsing.

Its definitely expensive but the food is always high quality and they have a great assortment of specialty products.

I buy pretty much all my fresh fruits and veggies there, also milk, cheese, and eggs. I can be sure of getting locally-grown, ethically-raised food thats picked and shipped with care. My purchase supports local farmers, not shareholders. I also get most of my sweets there - brownies, cookies, and such. And bread. I can feel confident that I have something delicious thats made with good ingredients that doesnt create a lot of waste. And supporting the Co-Op means supporting a local business that tries to be a model of what commerce should be like. I am a member - the major perk is knowing that Im supporting something really good for my community.

Amazing vegan cinnamon rolls! Their Vegan Cajun Tofuwich is my favorite sandwich. I always try to recreate it when Im not near the co-op, but its never quite as good as the original. Highly recommended New Pi!

High quality food, helpful staff, safe environment.

On the pricey side, but friendly, clean, and well maintained. Sort of like a locally run whole foods. I dont see myself doing my weekly shopping there, but I will be back.Membership seems to only be sort of worth it, but maybe if you had the right buying habits it would pay off. Its worth investigating.

The macaroons!!!! I also love using the bread machine. Slicing and dicing the yummy Rye bread of your choice. Great selection of local products all around, even a nice selection of craft beers. The price may be a little above average. Not an issue when paying for a quality instead quantity

Very clean, lots of home grown fruit and vegetables. It is much like Whole Foods, mostly organic items.

Local food... Works with me on plastic free products... Dairy is still a no go. But I love where my money goes! High quality!

Usually I go in....get what I need...run out. Today, I saw an old friend and the cashier was the sweetest lady EVEEER. I think I spent at least 1/2 hour for the in and out trip. I have never been to this location. Wasnt quite sure where the entrance of the building was, but it was in the back. Maybe that was the front :). As always, very clean, tidy, and organized. Thank you for a great experience.

This is an excellent place to get fresh greens. The prices can be pretty high so I dont use it for regular groceries - but it is worth it for the produce.

I recently moved to the Quad Cities and I miss this place more than I miss most of my own friends lol. They were my absolute favorite place to get food. So many delicious vegan options. The bran muffins in the morning. The veggie burgers at the hot bar. The sushi. The CUPCAKES. I absolutely adore the staff. They are the nicest people you’ll ever meet. This place is a gem and I wish it was everywhere!

We went in needing bulk honey for a mead making project and thought to try New Pioneer even though we did not have a membership. Anna and Zach were so helpful and genuinely enthusiastic we signed up for one on the spot! Love it!

I will always come to co-ops, great produce and only place I will get bread.

Great variety of fresh and frozen vegetables, fresh meat and fish, with lots of vegetarian and vegan options. Delicious baked goods and lunch options. Many delicious deli items and salads. The only reason Im not giving this a 5 start rating is because i didnt see my favorite curried tofu salad this time. If you want to eat healthy New Pi Co-op needs to be a mainstay of your grocery shopping!

Their prices are a little steep but I love their bulk buys!

Great selection - you can find almost any natural product you need here. Prices are reasonable for what you are getting. The hot food and salad bar is good. Bread is super. Staff is friendly and helpful. I used to wish for a Whole Foods, but this place is just as good, or better.

The building is beautiful. the staff were very knowledgeable and incredibly friendly. I needed a case of something and they made sure I got the best size for my money and gave me a discount. it was a wonderful experience. if you havent been you are missing out!

So happy to be back in New Pi ville. Met, (didnt quite run over) an old friend in the parking lot. We had tea & a cookie. Took the time to catch up. relaxing, refreshing place. My 1st time in CR store. Became a member in 1980s... very low member, under 3k. LOL

Today was my first time in one of the New Pioneer Stores. I was very impressed with the entire experience. The people on the floor were very helpful, they even approached me to ask if I needed help with anything. The lady at the checkout took her time to welcome me to the store and explain how everything works. I Highly recommend you check one of the New Pioneer Stores out!

The Cajun tofuwhich is knock your socks off delicious! Every time I am in Cedar Rapids I stop here specifically for this sandwich - and to bring one home with me. Seriously its so good for my mouthhole it makes me want to slap someone!Their vegan baked goods are amazing - and everything is very clearly labeled if it is vegan/vegetarian/gluten free.The store is clean and the employees are always great!

This place is our go-to store for meat and vegetables. While the prices are a little high, the high quality produce and meats are worth it to my family.A few things to try - smoked fish, sausages, cold-brew coffee on tap.Friendly and helpful staff too.

I love this store and visit it whenever Im in the Cedar Rapids area. Its clean, laid out well, and I love the selection of local, Iowa produce.The prices reflect the true cost of food. That seems to be a complaint about this store, but I checked their prices vs Hyvees organic bulk bins and New Pi is cheaper every time. Consumers need to realize theres more to their food and theres a reason theres such a stark difference between conventional and organic. Its expensive to eat organic if you eat a lot of meat and not a lot of vegetables, or consume a lot of prepackaged goods. But if you eat a balanced, whole-food diet you really dont have much to worry about budget-wise.

Staff is friendly, great selection of locally sourced produce and products. Good deals on promo items like my favorite Panda Puffs and Hippeas! The new Coop Basics pricing is great also, everyday items at affordable prices! Love going to the NewPi and grabbing soup and a sandwich or one of the great daily selections off the hot bar. Typically vegan options are available in the soup and hot bar sections.

My children and I love the Co-op. You can always feel GOOD about any purchases you make. The staff is kind and the store has a laid back vibe that we love.

Love the place. I have been to all 3 many times. Best quality food. A little expensive but you get what you pay for.

Dr. Bronners by the bulk. Just bring in your reusable bottle and refill! My go to for everything food and toiletry related. No harsh chemicals needed to stay clean and healthy!

New Pioneer has so.e fabulous deals on bulk Frontier products. We found some other hard to find items such as crimini mushrooms. Thwre is a nice selection of organics as well as naturally based body care and supplements. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. This will likely be a regular stop as we work to change our family eating habits.

Id give it 5 stars except for discovering when I went to eat the macadamia nuts this morning they had tiny black flecks in them, some darker grey areas on the surface and one even had a black thing under the surface. I had to use a knife to get it. My close up vision isnt great so I couldnt see what it was. My flight left this morning so I didnt have time to take them back. At $25.99 a pound, thats not good. Ive never seen that before on macadamias.

The place to go for organic produce. Most is locally grown and sold. Very good prices for the healthy food, much less expensive than a Whole Foods with the same variety.

The closest thing you will find to a Whole Foods in Cedar Rapids. While the store is smaller, they have a good selection of local and all natural options. They also have a good salad bar and deli ( try the Papagayo sandwich). They are more expensive than other local options, but you get what you pay for!

Love all their fresh bakery items. I do have to say that their hot bar is way overly priced if your not eating meat and just weighting the veggies.

New Pioneer provided all the wine for our daughters wedding, and we were so pleased. We especially appreciated Melissa Arps expertise and Brad Lynchs thoughtfulness. Everything was perfect from the red Bordeaux to the sparkling French rose. Best of all, we have extra for the holidays!

Produce at HyVee is expensive and not always Organic. Produce as New Pi is SO MUCH BETTER! We love it. For example, try the Japanese Sweet Potato--where else can you buy so much flavor!

I like New Pi. been a member for a few decades. Not my daily grocieary (too pricey) but what they do they do well. I like their sandwichs and prepared foods. Nice high end wine selection and off the beaten path food items. I always view my visits as a treat to myself.
