I was recommended to Southern Armature by a friend. I had gotten a battery test from Oreily auto parts because my car wouldn’t start and they told me it was the alternator. Oreily quoted me an astronomical high price just for the alternator. After I spoke to my friend and he told me about Southern Armature, I called them right away. I gave them the make and model of my car and they were able to give me a estimated cost over the phone. I brought my vehicle in the next day as soon as they opened and I was greeted with a warm welcome by Terry. He told me he would get me checked out and done the same day. Within an hour of me dropping the car off, he called and said it was indeed my battery and my alternator was fine. He then quoted me a price for the battery, got it installed, and back into my car by lunch time. I would highly recommend this company. Terry and his family are very nice and know there stuff.

Southern Armature was recommended to me and they did not disappoint! I am often uneasy when having to find a place that can do affordable and good quality work on cars. I have been taken advantage by many different car places due to my ever present lack of knowledge of car maintenance. When I called they had me come in the next day to drop off my car so they could get a good look at the issue I discussed on the phone. They were able to call and give me a quote within the first half of the day. No car shop is able to match their prices. Not only do they do affordable, quality work but they focus on customer service. They were consistently available to me when I had questions about my car. They even finished my car earlier than they originally quoted me. Additionally, the owner of the shop even mentioned that even if they cant do the work they will make sure they can find someone that can!I had an amazing experience with Southern Armature! It was very personable and I felt like they cared about my concerns! I will be returning and recommending them to anyone who needs car work done!

Went in with a minor problem and they walked me thru step by step what it would take to fix and how to do it. These guys were awesome. I brought in a starter from a 1970 Tractor that was made in England. Charlie called me that afternoon and said they had completely rebuilt it and it was ready to be picked up. It looked brand new. I literally didnt recognize it sitting on the counter. Unbelievable turnaround, which got me back to work. Customer service was incredible. Both times in, they were extremely busy, but they dropped what they were doing and assisted me. That kind of customer service is rare these days. I cant recommend them strongly enough.

I’ve had my A/C going in and out for about a month (not what you want in an Alabama summer) and I’ve taken it to another repair shop multiple times for them to barely look at it and charge me for not actually fixing anything. Took it to Southern Armature Works today and in about 15 minutes they had it diagnosed and actually fixed. I definitely highly recommend!

I loved dealing with these guys. I was having all sorts of electrical issues with my car and I had already tried 2 other shops before I came here. Southern Armature had it figured out and fixed in a few hours. I loved that the owner (Charlie) answers phone calls and emails himself so it was easier to give them a lot of background information before I brought the car in. They also did a good job of keeping me updated on labor cost and parts needed throughout the process so everything seemed very transparent.

WOMEN BEWARE 👹👹👹. I took my car to have a/c services. They charged me $800 and the a/c was not cold. I took it back and the man told me because the weather was hot my a/c wont get any cooler. LAME EXCUSE. I filed complaint with BBB. Issue never resolved. I lost my $800. I will never do business with them again. I know I WAS TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF BECAUSE IM A WOMAN.

My car’s AC wasn’t working and I went in to get it checked out. Carlos was very helpful in helping me resolve the problem (even though it was my fault the AC wasn’t working). It was a minor fix and they fixed it very quickly.

Used this shop and their radiator/AC shop next door for years. Very competent, fair, and honest. Employees stay for life and really know their stuff. If Southern doesnt fix this kind of problem (e.g. transmissions), they send me to a good place nearby. A Birmingham institution to cherish for over 70 years now.

This is an old-school shop. Its got smells of lubricants and old equipment lying around and lots of people working on lots of cars. I love it. Theyre fair and honest

Im 70 years old now as of, June 9, 2015 while Im typing this.My friends at Southern Armature Works has took great care and time fixing any problems Ive had for 46 years and as best I remember I never had to take any work done back to be redone. They know the business theyre in and fix your problems once.Until I take my last breath Ill never let these young stupid young people work on anything of mine.Dont you listen to that fool below, Garrett Monge that wrote his stupid review. It most likely he wanted something for nothing or for them to place him ahead of others.I said this....Take it to the bank!

A previous reviewer wrote that this is a great place for any electrical work. Apparently this is no longer the case, or maybe it never really was the case. I wanted to bring my car in here for an electrical issue & I was told directly that they do not do electrical work or diagnostics like that. The reason given was that they had a lack of manpower & room for this kind of work. I cant speak for the quality of their work but the dislike Im putting down on this review is for the fact that I was turned away & they were unwilling to look at my car at all.
