I went in to discuss a bike I wanted to purchase and the shop talked me out of buying it after listening to what I was looking for in a bike. Then, they fixed up my current bike (which I’d been looking to replace), found me a better rear rack, and helped adjust all of the problem spots. It is now a joy to ride and although this isn’t the closest shop to me, I’ll be bringing my bikes here from now on.

Jeff was super helpful. Answered all my questions and gave me a great deal on a used Trek. Shop has a friendly atmosphere. I was able to trade in my old bike.

We had two bikes tuned up at Papillon before heading to RAGBRAI this summer. The adjustments were perfect (the bikes “felt” tuned up) and they performed flawlessly the whole week. The price was right too.

I live down the street (so perhaps I’m geographically biased) and this is my go-to bike shop. It helps that I can walk my bikes there, but I feel lucky and privileged to have these guys mere blocks away. I’ve been cycling for over a decade and got into doing my own work a few years ago, but when I need tools and experience I don’t have this is where I go. When it comes to repairs and maintenance, I don’t think you can find better prices or more honest, up-front service in Arlington. Anyone with a bike built before 2000 I would recommend you bring it here if you need anything done.

I live in Silver Spring, MD and like to restore old bikes as a hobby, recently a 1971 Schwinn and a 1952 Dunelt. I am fortunate to have at least four bike shops within 20 minutes of home but the service at Papillon is worth the trip when no other shop can help. These guys are willing to research available parts and come up with solutions for problems inherent in restorations.

The staff and management of this bike shop are exceptionally attentive and skilled. Very good service at a very reasonable price. Their advice on my many bikes has saved me hundreds of dollars and time. I will not go to any other bike shop anywhere. Helpful staff who quickly repaired my classic bike and answered all my questions in the process. Theyve been repairing bikes long enough to handle the oldies like mine as skillfully as the newest ones they sell.

Great service and prices. Parts are hard to come by now and they Manually straightened a Ben derailleur hanger to get my son’s bike back on the road.

I just needed a couple of tubes and CO2, but they were very helpful and friendly, they found me what I needed, and they even checked and aired up my tire for no extra charge. This actually meant a lot to me because some bike shops arent as helpful unless youre in there for so something pricey. That wasnt the case here.

I just returned from a visit to Papillon Cycle. My gear shift needed expert care beyond what I am able to provide. Brian stopped what he was working on to immediately assist me - just amazing. The service was provided promptly, professionally, congenially and, at times, with me looking over his shoulder. My first visit and it wont be my last. Papillon is truly everyones bike shop. Theyll do whatever it takes to get the whole D.C. Metro area out enjoying riding bikes. I have seen them assemble a kids scooter, tune up a European-style cargo bike, and present an expert comparison of carbon-fiber racing frames. They offer unfailing courtesy and have gone many extra miles for me, answering all my random questions and fixing the simplest things that I cant do or dont have time to do myself, but always ready to teach me at the same time. John and Brian have been especially generous with their time and knowledge.I bought a Liv Avail Advanced from Papillon, and Ive been delighted with the whole experience before and since the sale. They built the pro model for me to take on an extended test ride in just a few hours. They also tuned up my antiquated college bike with no fuss and far less expense than Id been fearing.I like that Papillon cares about my budget as well as my cycling experience. They never begin by recommending the most expensive option. They focus more on what you need than on what they have in stock. If they dont have something, they will recommend a couple of places that have it for reasonable prices, and they are willing to install components you got somewhere else.Its great to know you have a shop full of expert and encouraging people to help you keep cycling. Arlington is a hike for me but its well worth the trip!

I recently went in to have training wheels added and tune-up done on my daughters bike, and the service was both friendly and great! Highly recommended.

My favorite bike shop in NOVA. My friend recommended this place last year when I was looking to by my first hybrid bike. They walked me through options, and i test drove quite a few. I ended up buying Giant Roam and the bike is good as new after an year and half. I serviced the bike once (free first year service) and the bike was even better. When i had an issue with my rear brake and took the bike in, they found out the issue is pretty simple (I tightened the hydraulic cable too much when installing a kick stand, duh) and didn’t charge anything for it. I will certainly recommend this place for your first, second and tenth bike purchase :-) i have been shopping around bike shops in NOVA and DC and this shop gave me the best experience on every visit.

When I brought my bike in for a tune-up it was in rough shape, I got it back & it is now 10 times more fun to ride. Shifting is smooth, brakes are tight, chain is well lubricated. Excellent bike shop.

Ive made this my go-to bike shop in the Arlington area. It doesnt have the bells and whistles of the bigger stores in the area, but it does have GREAT customer service and a lot of soul. Bailey and the rest of the staffers here take time to explain things to you (even take you back in the workshop sometimes!) and are knowledgeable and attentive. The prices are very reasonable too. I will continue to give them my business for many years to come!

My wife and I bought our first bikes from Papillon 28 years ago. We just bought our second pair of bikes from them last week.It was one of the most enjoyable shopping experiences weve ever had. Bailey, his wife I believe (whose name I dont remember), Kurt, John and Rebecca have all taken care of us over additional visits throughout the week as we came in to add bits and bobs to the bikes. This is one of those places where no question is too complicated or too stupid to be asked. They are patient, friendly, fun to talk to and the lack of any sales pressure is refreshing. Service is lightning fast considering how busy it gets in there. If they dont have something - a helmet I wanted, panniers I needed etc. it is ordered on the spot. Two teams ordered last Saturday came in the following Thursday.Just a great great place. Its easy to see why theyve stayed in business for over thirty years.

My wife, son, and I are all avid bikers (collectively averaging 1000+ miles per month). Over the past 30 years we have bought nine different new, high-end bikes from dealers across the metro area. Although we live 20 minutes away from Papillon, we have chosen them as our go-to repair shop because, unlike other shops, their prices are fair and their service is absolutelyFIRST-RATE. They really know their stuff.

Very happy with Papillon Cycles, the service, and the people were great! I highly recommend this bike store I had a very good experience with them.They also are committed to Giant bikes so if you want a Giant this is a great place to shop for one.The only down side of Papillon Cycles is the location, I wish that they had better parking at the Arlington Store, however I was able to find a nearby meter.[I used to go to Revolution Cycles but unless you want to spend a thousand or more dollars, Revolution Cycles (RC) treats you like dog poop. Avoid RC unless you are very high end biker, and have money to burn.]

I went there just passing by and asked about a replacement rear wheel and cassette. They looked at it gave me what I needed, but gave me a ton of options. They even went the extra mile at no charge and cleaned my rear cassette. I went back a few days later for some adjustments to my derailers. Other places told me 2-3 weeks they did it on the spot and super fast. This place is awesome a must go to.

These people are great. I had my bike shipped here from Austin when I moved and they assembled it for me. I really like this shop because the dudes are really cool and down to earth and dont try to prove to you how much they know about bikes. Plus, the guy gave me all these handouts about local rides and trails in the area.

Quick, competent service at a very reasonable price. Staff are friendly and know their stuff. I havent bought a bike from them (got one before moving to DC that I hope to continue using for a very long time), but they are absolutely my first choice for service in the entire greater DC area.

Brian took great care of my Trek and resolved its shifting issues that I had made worse with my own attempt at repair. He immediately knew what had happened to the front derailleur without my having to tell him.Plus turnaround was quick and price was more than reasonable. He also installed some new drop bars that I had gotten elsewhere.If I had money for a new bike, I would get it at Papillon. But since I dont, Ill keep taking my Trek there.

What a great shop. Twice recently Ive had something break suddenly on my bike -- a spoke, a deraillure cable. Both times I was able to take it in and they fixed it while I waited. The shop does great work, very friendly, doesnt try to make you buy something you dont need. Ive also had full-on tune ups done there, and will again.Theyve opened up the place, rearranging bikes for more room and ability to see the bikes they sell, and taken down the wall so you can see into the workshop area; I dunno why, but I really like seeing them work on the bikes.Very happy to have such a find local bike shop so close. Unlike other local bike shops, Papillon treats all customers with respect, whether youre in the $1,000 range and competing next week in a road race, or just a cargo-shorts commuter buying something affordable and humble. Theyre not the closest shop to my home, but I still go there for all my bike needs.

Papillon Cycles is a wonderful store and service center to visit for any of your biking needs. Aside from its convenient location in South Arlington, the employees there really know their bikes. If you havent visited them before, I highly recommend it.Specifically for me, I brought in an older bike that really needed a lot of work. I was afraid that it would not be worth the cost to get it in running condition but they explained what the bike needed and how to keep it running in the long run; a more preferable option for me as opposed to buying a new one. I was very impressed with their work once the bike was completed and was well informed by them throughout the process. Great customer service and attention to bikes. I loved these guys for my 15+ local biking years. I have tried all the DC-area shops. Papillon is best.

Had work done here three times. They do a fine job but they can be less than professional. The last time I had work done I had them put on new handle bars and tape which was done sloppily. If I had known they were going to rush something small but important like taping the handles I would have done it myself; which I did end up doing after I picked the bike up and was disastisfied. Also, I know its difficult during a busy season, but when youre told to pick something up a certain day and time, I think its fair to expect that. When I came to get my bike, though, well after I was told it would be finished by, they were still rushing to complete it, which led to the hasty tape job.

Shop was closed during business hours. Had a will return sign for 1pm. 1:35pm doors are still locked.

Before visiting Papillon Cycles, I visited three other bike shops. They all told me my bikes frame had been bent and was no longer safe to ride on. The good people at Papillon correctly diagnosed my bikes actual problem (a broken axle) and fixed it within an hour. After weeks of visiting different shops, I was out an about enjoying my bike again. Best bike shop in the area.

Papillon Cycles is the best bike shop for new bikes and repairs around Columbia Pike. Friendly staff who dont hard sell, rather understand your needs and suggest accordingly. Been here many times for numerous quick fixes and was never disappointed.

Worst experience of my life. Went in fully intending on buying a bicycle for my wife and I, but the guy working there (slender, dark hair, around 5.10-5.11ft, crooked teeth, smokes) started to get edgy and gave us a real attitude for no reason that we’re aware of! Telling my wife she’s getting ahead if herself, waiving me to move to the side with his hand, telling us “that’s obviously an extra small” when we asked what size was this bike. Absolutely ridiculous! When I saw that he has a problem with us, i told him what’s his problem and just left. Obviously we’re never coming back!

Went in to have my bike tuned up. Everyone was very friendly and the service was fast and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be coming back here for service in the future!

Papillon is great. The main thing I love about this shop is the complete lack of pretentiousness among the employees here. These are hard core bike guys, but they dont treat casual bike owners with disdain or disinterest, as I have experienced at so many other shops. They dont try to make you feel stupid for not understanding why you really need this $5000 carbon fiber bike. They simply listen to customers and try to put them on the best bike for their needs and budget. I found them when I wanted to do a custom build, and no other bike shop would give me the time of day. Ive since done three custom builds with them, because I know other shops would have just tried to sell me a stock bike off the floor.

I bought my bike here on a whim about a year ago. I told them I hadnt ridden in years, and I might be interested in recreational and commuter riding. They let me test-ride a few different bikes and answered my questions, but didnt pressure me to buy.They have lots of gear available, not a huge amount, but the quality gear that you end up needing for daily riding.This is definitely a build-a-relationship kind of business. You could just buy a bike and go on your way, but if you go in to get your bike adjusted or buy gear you need, they take care to learn your name and keep track of your bike. If your bike gets hurt, they ask what happened and if theres a chance to teach you something, they take the time to do that.

My beautiful fiancee was finally sick of staring at my mountain bike and hearing me say that I was going to get it tuned up and start riding it, so she decided to have it done as part of my birthday present. That was in March. Its now June. Just to give you an idea of how I should be crowned King of Procrastination.Late May, I finally got around to dropping it here at Papillion. To be honest I wasnt impressed with the initial greeting. Evidently, it was a little busy, and the gentleman that was speaking with me seemed very short in his explanations... Kind of like I work here, you dont! I know what youre bike needs and you dont so shut it while I explain it to you!So as hes almost lecturing me about what hes going to do to my bike, he realizes, upon review, that what hes talking about and what I told him has already been fixed is true and his tone changed. He became more friendly and moved into more of an educational role than the former lecturing professor.We decided that the best course of action would be to do the tune up service and add new brake cables and housings, wires and cables. And because my future MRS. was footing the bill, I got a new seat and water cage too! ;) (Love you honey!)So after about a week and a half or so, my bike was ready to be picked up. And for a very reasonable cost - $150 - I walked out and was able to ride my bike immediately like it was brand new. Wow! or should I say Weeeeeeeee!Today starts my new riding regimen - Thank you Papillon Cycles. Well be back when the MRS. wants to get herself a bike!

Ive lived in Arlington for 10 years and have Ive patroned Papillion cycles for just as long. So it is with a tinge of sadness I write this review, especially since I so throughly enjoyed the quality of service before the stores expansion.Yesterday, I needed some tubes to fix tires on two of my bikes. Since I was working from home, I planned to visit Papillion Cycles during my lunch break. After checking that they were opening at 10:30am, I drove over at noon to find the doors locked, the shop dog barking at me on the other side of the door, and a small clock sign informing me the shop would reopen in 30minutes. To kill time, I decide to walk up and down the Pike and see what changes have been made since my last visit. Fast forward to 12:40pm, and Ive been standing at the shop entrance since 12:25pm. During my time waiting, I was not alone. 3 people riding on bikes stopped as well as a couple other people on foot, we were all hoping the doors would open. Then, just like me, they all left wondering why the shop wasnt open during business hours.With a sigh of disappointment, I resigned my self to having to drive over to Performance Bikes to get what I need and wondering if this will be a new level of service for this local bike shop.
