Brought a 2 stroke 9.9 to this place for an issue of No Power and they charged me 400 bucks, I had to bring the motor back 3 times because of the ongoing problem of NO POWER under load, left messages, no call backs until I kept calling so clearly the communication with these guys is horrible, then after countless attempts I received a call from Andrew, the owner who said, we saw your motor running in our tank, so you will not receive anything further from us or a refund, I felt 100% like I have been taken to the cleaners with this company, BRUTAL customer service and they did not do what they said they were going to do so stay clear of these guys at South Island Marine, If I could give a minus 5 stars I would

So far so good. They all seem to know what they are doing. They are busy but still have time to tell you the truth and give u honest answers. They will work on 2 stroke engines.

Zero stars to these guys. After having our boat for about two months last summer (and specifically referencing a sea test), we picked it up (at the very end of the summer). Kids had new life jackets, everyone was excited. 20 minutes into the bay, the engine died. I called them and was informed that it was almost 5pm on a friday and besides they dont help out when a boat breaks down . The level of garbage customer service is alarming. We had to pay someone to launch their boat and tow us in. When we checked the gas tank and fuel lines they were filthy and had not been cleaned even though I was charged for it. I dropped it back off and was met with a ton of excuses. I told them, for a second time, to do what they needed so we could have a boat that worked. We picked it up and the same thing happened. Hasnt worked all summer, but we paid nearly $5000 for the boat to be fixed. They took no responsibility for their mistakes, fixed nothing except the boat trailer, and offered no apology whatsoever. Dont trust these guys. Use anyone else.

Im a fairly new boat owner and tried a few different places to find a good fit. South Island Marine has been incredible to work with and has given me no reason to not use them for all of our marine mechanical needs. Their customer service and pricing is outstanding and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to have some work done on their boat.

Ive had South Island Marine do nearly $75k of work on my boat, including two complete engine rebuilds. Theyve done top notch work for every job, have stood behind everything theyve done and have always been extremely reasonable on price. After the engine rebuilds, one of the rear main seals was defective after a month and a bit of heavy use. South Island pulled the boat back out, replaced the seal at no cost to me and guaranteed the new work for another full warranty period. Darrin has been fantastic to work with, and Ill continue to use them for everything on my boat.

We are in the process of purchasing a Bayliner 4788 and through a set of unusual circumstances we needed to get an engine survey completed in an extremely short timeframe. South Island not only accommodated our request for a fast turnaround, the technician, Ryan, was clearly competent as well as very personable. We are really confident that the information we are getting is thorough and accurate and we appreciated the suggestions Ryan made to improve the boats serviceability.Great job folks!

Recently I was in for my 300 hour service on my G2 300 Evinrudes and I have to say this place is first class! The staff is friendly and very accommodating with customer service being their number 1 priority. There was a mix-up with my haul day to get the boat on the Hard and needles to say I was more than impressed with how everything was handled. Over the course of the service I popped by at night to see how things were coming along and the technicians took the time to talk to me, and show me some things they were working on while working on another project late at night to get that client back in the water as soon as possible. To often people in the service industry take advantage of the fact that you have no choice and there will always be another customer so client retention is not their concern, nor is customer service. I can tell you from personal experience this is NOT the case with the Team at South Island Marine. Tremendous experience and will only work with them from here on for all my boating mechanical needs. I look forward to working with them again. As a side note, if you have been thinking about repowering I would Highly recommend the new Evinrude etec for which they are also a dealer I believe. The power and fuel economy are beyond anything I could have hoped for (600 hp uses less than my single 225 on a much smaller boat), while producing very low emissions and a sexy customizable sport look. They will not disappoint!
