Support local small businesses!! They now have curb pick up parking right in front.I always check here before going to a big box shop. They are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They have everything you would need for small home improvements. Also some cute shop items for gifts in the front. They are a clean and well organized store.If you are doing more of a commercial job, you wont find what you need here. But they have most everything an everyday homeowner could need. Id love more of a selection in the garden section too. But I always call here first!

Melia, I think it was? Answered the phone this morning when I called and SAVED THE DAY. It seems a small thing but parents will get it: my back is out and my 11 month old is cranky and teething and it was nearly naptime. His schedule is going to be a mess today because of my work anyways, but I needed a key copied and she came out to the car and saved naptime! Now he’s dozing and I’m working in the car waiting on a client and have the keys I need to give them.THANK YOU!!!

Cute store but if youre not known to them they ignore you...hard.I wont be going back.

Very friendly and helpful staff! I don’t dabble with home improvement projects often, so it’s awesome being able to get advice from the staff here, especially if I don’t know what I’m doing.Bonus: they have good COVID-19 precautions in place (like limiting number of people in the store, plexiglass panes over the checkout counters, directional markers down the aisles, and stickers to tell you were to stand, etc.), so I feel safe going in.

I just found this hardware store and love the fact they stock hard to find and novel products. The staff is always helpful. I am appreciative that West Portal has its own hardware store.

Papenhausen is amazing. Not being good at home projects, I need their advice every time I go in - and theyre always helpful. In the one instance they didnt have what I needed, they sent me to the place that did.

If you live in the neighborhood Papenhausen likely has what you need to fix your older SF house or can tell you where to get it. Great staff! Fire at original store is sad, and limits them a tiny bit in the popup location but they should soon be back in original location.

This is the very Best Hardware store for miles. Staff is very smart. Expect a Vast assortment of household needs. And, you will discover myriad items you had no idea you needed! Support locally owned stores.

The store burned on 1/24/2018 and is completely boarded up.I liked this place as a neighborhood hardware store. Not a complete selection but very handy and helpful. I hope they recover and come back better than ever.

I dont do a lot of fixing things around the house. But when I need to grab something or find out what exactly is it that I need to get the job done, the people who work here are so helpful. They answer questions and even drew me a diagram. One time I even got there 5 mins after the store closed, but the sales guy saw me at the door and let me in to grab some drain cleaner. Best service all around.

It seems small but I haven’t been disappointed over the years. Friendly staff. After the tragic fire, the store had its staff work on community projects. Very proud of this local biz.

Im so use to giant places like Home Depot that I forgot what its like to get real customer service until last Sunday when I came here.I usually stop by Papenhausen for small items (key copies, screws, a plunger) this time I was coming by for a cotter pin, I never had to buy one before, I didnt even know what they were called, I just needed one for the rear set on my R6.As usual, I headed back to the drawers of nuts, screws, and bolts, stared at it for a while and wasnt seeing what I was looking for, then I headed back up front to the register where one of the people asked if I needed any help, I gave her the quick rundown and she says oh yeah, a cotter pin (blam, I just learned something new), she then walks me back, grabs the drawer they were sitting in and let me figure out what was the best fit, she also pointed out they were $0.10 each - which I replied by grabbing 5 to make it worth the effort (though Ill probably lose the other 4 before I need them)We head back up to the front, she rings me up - $0.54 is the total, I break out the debit card because Im to lame to have any cash on me. She and another employee both pointed out in a friendly tone that it would cost more to ring me up than to just let me have them and with that, they gave me the 5 pins. (No, I wasnt lame enough to take a bag)With that, I said my thanks, and the girl replied with now you know how to get free stuff here yup, apparently being a big enough loser not to carry any cash still brings out really great customer service at Papenhausen so from now one, theyll have to be my go to place for anything I need which will include trying to pay back the $0.50 I owe them next time Im there.
