We passed by this shop so many times and finally stopped by. They had many flavors to select from, which made it difficult for us to decide what to get. The staff were so kind that we tried a few different samples. Their vanilla was surprisingly black! (still brought rich vanilla flavor)

Well this is my third time and Im impressed by the consistency of good attention,and quality of their products.I usually never get this consistency there is always missing from one order to the next,not at this store.Their gelato is super creamy and flavorful, their shakes are very thick and the coffee makes me remember Europe and the coffee there.So if I could give them more than 5 stars i would,just keep the good work.Thanks

I was having way too much fun enjoying the ice cream here - they let me try a lot of flavors and didn’t mind! I felt the prices were reasonable and every flavor was delicious.

Great mochas. Good service. They are located right by the underground parking entrance. They use illys coffee beans and some good chocolate. As for gelato, we tried a small cup with mango and watermelon flavors. Watermelon was too sweet, but the mango was great with tangy flavor. However, it wasnt as creamy as I expect from a gelato. There is a seating outside.

I kid you not, this place did Gelato just right. I have had Gelatos around Down Town and even the popular stores in Little Italy downtown, but this place remain my favorite. The quality is just spot on. Must try flavor: Pear, Coffee, Speciale.

Nice cafe and the staff made good recommendations. We got the panna cotta and passion fruit gelato and they were both great. I’d say the passion fruit was a bit better and would recommend that.

Unique flavors of gelato offered here like passion fruit and pineapple! I have tried hazelnut and mango gelato here. It was creamy, smooth and absolutely delicious! Wish the cups came with lids though! Looking forward to try different flavors next time! :)

I had the Mojito, granddaughter had the watermelon 🍉! Awesome!!!! Single sear cup was just enough to not ruin dinner.

The gelato itself was excellent and the servings are generous. The small size cup was more than enough for me.The service: I visited with family over the holiday weekend and one family member asked the female employee serving the ice cream if it was OK to remove her mask for a second so that she could try my flavor before ordering hers. We were the only customers in the store. The female employee was kind and and said yes. The second my family member removed her mask, a tall, male employee behind the register yelled at her to keep her mask on while in the store. It was loud, harsh and rude! Next time, Ill peak inside to see if this guy is working before stepping foot inside this place again.

Creamy, smooth, and great selection of flavors. If you dont see your favorite flavor, ask as they have others in the back (Sugar free Nocciola for example😋)

Really excellent gelato. And one of the few places Ive been to that offers espresso over top of gelato.I really enjoyed my Carmel flavor, but tasted several others, including strawberry (which was startlingly refreshing and accurate), and know I couldnt have gone wrong.

A sweet and creamy take on Italian gelato with classic, authentic flavors and coffee drinks. Located near Sunglass Hut and worth every penny. Try the hazelnut! In case you dont like overly sweet desserts, hazelnut seems to strike a good balance.

Excellent gelateria with some unique flavors. Appreciate the fact that they work with one of the better Italian coffee brands, Illy but I wish theyd take more time working with the baristas on how to express the espresso. I ordered a doppio and it was unnecessarily long and watery, which was a bit disappointing. Despite that well most likely be back for more as the ice cream is really, really good.

An actual gelato place, that doesnt rely solely on syrups. Also, their gelato shakes (which are nice and thick) are only $6.20, while most other ice cream and gelato stores typically mark it up to around $8. Always look forward to come here when Im at UTC.

Good flavors, including real pistachio. Not quite the smoothness of true Italian gelato. Go for the medium, its worth a dollar more.

Great Italian icecreams and they are open till 10 pm

NOT REAL ITALIAN COFFE. The coffe is quality but the machine they use ruins the taste of the coffe beans and takes away the creaminess of a real espresso. In addition there is no “ristretto” size, just a typical american coffe shop.

It was tasty but I feel that some flavors can use a little bit of enhancing.

Paul and his team were incredible. From the ordering inquiry to helping up organize what to order, how much and setting up delivery. The food was so delicious and our guests kept raving about how amazingly authentic the food tasted. Thank you again for making our annual holiday party so great....it surely was a jolly holly luau!

Best gelato in San Diego! They have a large variety of flavors that they are constantly swapping out depending on the season. My favorite is the Amaretto. The staff is always super friendly and generous with the sampling. Ive been to other places where they only let you sample two flavors max. They also make a mean latte- much better than Starbucks. Other pluses are: dairy free options, gluten free options, rewards program.

Horrible service. Sign outside the door said they close at 9pm, but the guy was serving someone and when we walked in he told me they were closed. It was 730pm, at least take off the sign and change your service hours on Google.

By far, the best gelato/ice cream in San Diego! Amazing quality, taste and the selection of flavors. Highly recommend Opera and Hazelnut! So tasty and silky!! And you should get them in their homemade waffle cone, a perfect pairing!

This is the best gelato I have tasted! The ingredients are always fresh and changing with what it is in season and the texture is perfect. I think I have tried every flavor, and I cant pick a favorite. The atmosphere of the store is relaxed and casual, but modern and elegant at the same time. The store is also very welcoming to kids, which is a nice outing, and not as messy as ice cream and healthier too! It is a ticket to Italy in every cup!

Best Gelato ever-- and I have tried many in Italy. The fruit has the right amount of sweetness or tartness and the specialty flavors are always sure to please. Perfect for dinner parties or for taking to a friends house. I also like that they have seasonal flavors as well--pumpkin in the fall and candy cane in December! I dont even consider ice-cream anymore.

Best gelato I have ever had... my husband and I went back multiple times when we were visiting San Diego. I have referred many many friends to get some treats whenever I hear they are going to San Diego. Their location on Coronado is fabulous too :) Its making me drool just thinking about it!

This is a wonderful place for gelato. The different choices of ice cream and variety are great. I believe that you can find their brand in different locations such as Wholefoods. They have one flavor that is combined with lavender. It is one of my favorites.

Soooooooo good. And not only do they have flavor options that change up frequently, but they have options for vegan, non dairy and gluten free. They are soooooo smooth and full of flavor. Highly recommend.

Chocolate gelato was impressive!

Their ice cream flavors are SO GOOD. They have a lot of flavors that you wouldnt normally find at any other place and thats why I love Drips & Swirl so much.They also have a small sitting area where you can enjoy your ice cream comfortably.

Hands down the best gelato in the city. My family comes here a lot and have never had a bad experience. Coffee is great as well.

Highly recommend the Charcoal Flavor and the Passion Fruit flavor. Plus, their portion is huge compared to Sprinkles, and other high end ice cream shops.

Fresh gelato everyday. Seasonal flavors are a real treat - cantaloupe, green apple, any fruit really. Espresso is always wonderful.

Nutella gelato was delicious! Prices were also very reasonable for the quality and quantity.

Having gelato and coffee at Bottega Italiana was my greatest dessert exprerience in San Diego. Not to mention the chocolates and bonbons... The owner and the staff of the store are always super friendly with the customers. The design of La Jolla store is very chic - simple but stylish! It is always worth for more and more visits!!! I am sure my little son will love Bottega Italianas gelato very much! Cant wait to try!

Overcharged for Gelato (kid sizes were charged as smalls) and the gelato was not Italian quality. Disappointed. Dropped $22 here that I feel would have been better spent at Cold Stone.

Yeah great gelato

Gelato and coffee is good, I did not like the service, I ordered my latte first to a guy behind the display, then proceeded to pay for our bill with the cashier who I also reminded of my coffee, I waited at least 5 minutes and the coffee wasnt there. Asked the barista and he was dumbfounded, then they realize that nobody told him to make one. It wasnt even busy that day. So make sure you make it clear to all staff or youll be waiting even if theres no customers around.

A small, clean café that serves coffee and gelato and some other snack items. 2 scoops of gelato is $5.50, and the scoops are a good size. I got the opera and the chocolate chip, and both taste fine. Both are not really creamy, are pretty light in density, and not too sweet.

They dont properly clean their scoops between servings or flavors and it really impacts the taste. If you want some gelato with a little stale rinse water and who knows what other flavors, this is your place.

Truly a gem at UTC Westfield . Their gelatos are beautiful and delicious.,... But there is more...they offer some wonderful teas from France. Right now I am drinking a tea made by Dammann Freres called Menthe Poivree. Outstanding, please give this place a try.

Poor service provided by rude people. Four weeks ago we were treated badly by a young and unprofessional rude young man named Jurat. We are from Arizona. Today we got the chance to share that lousy treatment with the owner, Dave. He really didnt care and that is why I am writing about it in this fashion. I thought the owner would be more understanding and was very disapointed.In summary, there are a lot of ice cream and gelato stores in town. Apparently they think that its ok to be verbally abusive to their customers. In my opinion their product is just ok at best and clearly not worth the abuse.Walk another 150 steps down the corridor and youll find an awesome ice cream store called Sloans where the product is better, a much larger choice, the store is cleaner and the employees are nice... !!

I hired Bottega Italiana to cater our sweet treat station for my daughters bat mitzvah party, and I couldnt have been more pleased. The owner, David, was lovely to work with, and he made sure we were happy from start to finish. He suggested we choose 4 different flavors (although he would have provided more), and we selected various ones that we knew our guests would love. The server at the event was so gracious, and our family and friends said it was the best gelato theyd ever tasted. In the end, we picked lemon sorbet, panna cotta, a traditional chocolate and the speciale, which was beyond delicious. I would enthusiastically recommend Bottega Italiana for event catering that will exceed all expectations.

I was never a coffee drinker...I would pick up the occasional non-descript, what the majority gets for coffee every now and again, but that was the extent. Then I arrived at Bottega Italiana and discovered what coffee is actually supposed to taste like. Holy cow, good and proper stuff! As for gelato, I often heard that it was very fattening so never really ventured into discovering more...same thing in this area...world changing! Gelato is LESS FATTENING, uses fresh local ingredients, has less sugar...but heres the kicker...it does indeed taste like theres more of all the good stuff (ahem, fat, sweet, etc.)...turns out, when you use real, fresh, high quality ingredients, you dont have to add all that other crap to make it taste good!!!..no wonder our local Whole Foods gets their gelato made by Bottega Italiana!

Best gelato in San Diego! So creamy and delicious, you cant get enough of it. Get it with coffee on top (its called affogato), and you will be blown away.They have many flavors to choose from, and new ones everytime I went. Highly recommend this spot.

My favorite gelato place in UTC. They also know how to make a proper espresso (a rare treat). So if you are at the UTC mall, forget Starbucks (now offense, big brand, I love you, too), and be sure to take a moment and enjoy a well-made Italian coffee with a piece of exotic chocolate, and followed by a gelato in one of the Bottegas many natural flavors. Thumbs up!

Bright, clean, friendly shop... the gelato is fresh and temptingly displayed...beautifully really! I asked some questions and found out that their gelato is made fresh every day with only whole food ingredients... lots less fat and sugar than regular ice cream! Im thinking its good for me because I feel so happy while Im eating it...and afterwards too. Im afraid Im gushing...but you have to try the yogurt flavor with any of the berry flavors...or panna cotta with berries or chocolate or coffee flavors...or the salted caramel or the hibiscus (which I only saw once--more please!) ...or the lemon or the mango... I know-- I go there a LOT...but my kids love it and so do I...and my hubby loves that illy coffee!

The lemon gelato here was excellent and I had the most beautifully crafted soy latte made by Sabel. My new fav my coffee shop in UTC.

Are these other reviews fake?? This is some of the worst gelato Ive ever had. Worse than store-bought. It was very icy--not creamy at all, like gelato should be. This couldve been forgivable, but the flavor was also seriously lacking. Ive real gelato many times before, and this is not it. I also bought a Chuao chocolate bar here, and it tasted stale and was turning whitish. Instead of wasting money here, head to Bobboi in La Jolla for excellent, fresh, creamy gelato.

I had no idea what gelato was the first time I tried it at Bottega Italiana. I was quickly given a lesson in yumminess. Its hard for me to eat ice cream now that gelato and I have been formally introduced. Everything was super smooth, creamy and rich. I have since tried gelato in Italy and what they make at Bottega Italiana is authentic and delicious as it comes. If you cant make it to Italy and want to treat yourself take a trip to Bottega Italiana.Best espresso/coffee Ive had in San Diego too!

The gelato here is amazing and I love the option to make the flavor affogado with a fresh shot of espresso (or two) or a cremito latte. This is a moderately priced spot with Euro-lounge decor and some outdoor seating- I usually opt to sit in the big cushy couches or pods somewhere more scenic in the mall.
