I passed through San Diego for business last week, and I can easily say R&L tobacco shop was one of the best experiences I had (although I might be biased, as I consider myself to be a cigar and pipe tobacco enthusiast). I bought a pipe there, which is currently working wonders for me. The R&L staff was wonderful in helping me pick out the right one, and it shows they did a wonderful job. I also received excellent help getting tobacco. I bought a 2oz bag of Dr. Charlie and a Golden Bull Cigar; both of these were some of the most enjoyable tobacco I’ve had. This being said, even with $10 shipping, I am more than happy and willing to buy from this company again from across the country.Not to mention, the museum and the historical feel of the shop as a part of Old Town merits its own separate and highly positive review. I will remember this experience for a very long time, and if I am ever in San Diego again, I will make a beeline for this establishment.

This cigar shop is like Red Dead Redemption irl. Ive been coming to this cigar shop since I was a child and I go whenever Im in Old Town and it holds very fond memories for me. I love the smell inside and all the neat items in the glass cases. The tiny little cigars are so cute and perfect as gifts.

Ive been going there for years. The gentlemen that work there are VERY knowledgeable. That have a great variety of products and excellent pricing. Along with that they always make us feel like family when we walk in.

Pressure free place to buy amazing quality pipes, and cigars, and fresh tobacco. Very cool museum of old pipes as well with awesome owners who will inform, discuss, and take photos with you! I used to be able to come more while living in SD, but I make sure I visit whenever I can.

Its been several years since I have been to Racine & Laramie but I still fondly remember my last visit and I miss going there, greatly. I simply dont live in San Diego, or Id be going there dangerously often. Its really the greatest tobacco shoppe Ive ever been to. Its such a neat store with a rich history and incredibly helpful staff with none of the arrogant bull ship that is rampant in this industry. I hope I can visit again, soon!

Absolutely phenomenal atmosphere, with people who know their stuff! Walked in to look around, and left with a plethora of things I just HAD to try. It was all FANTASTIC too! Worth every penny.

By the gods... the ambiance, knowledgeable staff, products, oddities, reasonable prices. Hell, I went in and ended up leaving with a briar block for pipe carving along with the cigar and stem for my pipes at home. Only wished I lived closer because I would spend way too much time and money here. Couldnt recommend it more.

Went there for the first time today. Awesome! Feels like I stepped back in time 100 years. Great selection of pipes, pipe tobacco in bulk (in vintage jars) and name brand tins. Excellent selection of cigars too. Also many fun collectable. Definitely my new go to tobacconist in San Diego hands down! The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Ladies, this is a great place to shop for the man in your life.

The customer service in this shop is really great. They will reccomend whatever kind of tobacco you want, and at really great prices. A lot of the fixtures are original, and I love the authentic feel of this shop. I like sweeter cigars, and the gentleman behind the counter gave me a lot of variety. I will most certainly be back again!

Great selection of cigars

To start this off, I came to this store for knowledge and recommendations. They did not disappoint at all. Walking in you feel like you traveled back to the early 1900s. The whole shop feels like an old western trade store. Crammed to the brim on all shelves bit, yet organized. A sight to behold for sure. Staff greets in a western vibe, decked out in full attire for the location. So after picking their brain for a bit was recommended a nice cigar to pair with my whiskey and the proper way to enjoy it(being my first time indulging this) by the time my visit was over I left with way more info than I expected and the easiest cigar purchase I could be imagined. Given the right info staff was able to single out a few brands and work with me from there. Once narrowed down more it was purchase time and good to go. If you want smoke shop that has knowledgeable people and interesting environment, youll totally want to come here

Tourist trap. Staff is busy watching the hundreds of snoopers, to help a real customer.If youre willing to wait however, they do alright. You have to be patient though. I was not too impressed with their cigar collection nor their glass cases. Glass cases holding their cigars were dusty and not maintaining the optimal humidity for those premium, yet overpriced cigars.Pipe tobacco though! You can get decent pipe tobacco here. 🤷‍♂️Theres a small smoking lounge area in the back of the store for those who want to enjoy a cigar, too! 👍

Great museum, owners in costume and friendly as can be. This a must see place and great for pictures with the General. You can also smoke here and buy tobacco.

From the alluring and pungent smell of tobacco that soothes the senses immediately upon entering, to the friendly and knowledgeable staff, and of course the extensive selection of fine products, this is no run of the mill smoke shop staffed by young folk with no appreciation or knowledge of fine cigars. My favorite tobacconist in the world. They have some really out there cigars, and a good selection of brand name ones. They have a nice smoking spot inside, though I will take mine outside for a smoke and a stroll in the park instead.

These guys get some cigars before anyone else in the country. They have fantastic dinner and cigar events. The cigar lounge is comfortable and great conversations. They are really nice to women and youll find them among the visitors. Dave, the cigar guru is one of the most knowledge in the country and spends time visiting with the men who actually make the cigars and studies with them. This is a do not miss. It is also vey beautiful

Always suprised by how friendly the staff is here, between the polite manor the dress and the old building it really makes me feel like im in a diffrent world, selection is great, and prices arent terrible, will definitely be back here again and again

Visiting SD from Arizona doing the tourist thing I stumbled upon this place. Pushy foreigners who wanted pictures kinda turned me off from really perusing deep into this store. But from what I saw I was impressed. Id love to see a shop like this here in AZ. The cigars I purchased were laid out in a box out in the open I was surprised they wernt cracked or dry. They burned straight and slow and kept cool which is hard to find straight from a shop in AZ. Very impressive place. It will be on my list of things to do every visit to SD

Huge selection and knowledgable staff. This place is top shelf as a traditional smoke shop. Terrific selection of cigars - the employees help me choose within my price range and my Dad loves everything I bring him. A must-visit for people who enjoy cigars.

The cool folks at Racine & Laramie were the only people in California with such a broad catalog of foreign smokes that they had fresh Toscanello cigars in stock. They mailed them across the state same day to me, they arrived right away and saved the day! Made me look SO GOOD to pops. Thanks guys!I highly recommend Racine & Laramie.

The La Casa de Rodriguez is known as the Racine and Laramine Tobacco Store, however, before it has been a reconstructed home that became the Exchange Hotel. I like the old-western vibe in the store, pipes galore. I tell ya, though, I do not smoke. I do remember as a child, my father did occasionally smoke a pipe. He liked cherry tobacco. The cigar master in this house is so gentle and professional.

Worth the stop for cigar enthusiast – the store brand is OK and well worth trying – but for selection and prices look elsewhere. There are after all some very well stocked cigar shops around the San Diego area.

Very informative and very friendly staff. Huge selection of new and older tobacco brands and antique pipes. I was having trouble finding blends of pipe tobacco that met my needs and was pleasantly informed about a wide range of brands to help me fine a few blend that I absolutely enjoy and probably never find if I cannot get to old town. Im ruined for life. 😉 Staff took his time, didnt rush or pressure me into any choices and answered all question I had along with suggestions, I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with the gentalman. I wish I would have got his name. You can tell they have a passion and enjoy what they do and that makes all the difference compared to just a run of the mill smoke shop. Best tobacco shop in SD. Will be returning for all my pipe and smoking needs. Thank you again
