The staff was very honest, helpful and engaging. New members were quick to offer assistance and/or get a more experienced team member when needed. The shop was filled with all manner of nerd-wares. The damaged card singles case was a treasure trove of possibilities for every format and budget. They also had some point-of-sale computers available if you just wanted to browse their extensive online inventory on your own. Very nice, wish Id taken some pictures.

The place is great. The staff are always friendly, they typically have what I am looking for, and have been great ever since 2003 when I first started going to their store. If you are a fan of things like warhammer, magic the gathering or just nerdy stuff in general. Stop by here. They are great

Have always had great experiences with Star City and especially so when we lived down in Blacksburg a couple years ago until now. On the morning on our way back to Richmond we stopped in Roanoke and waited several hours until noon just to visit the store. Since moving away we havent been able to make it to the store very often. We were excited to get a box of the new set. Only to finally get in the store and be told that we cant get a box using the store credit that we had been saving for a long time. Apparently this is because someone else abused the rules. They now only let store credit be used a week after the sets release. So our bad luck that we were there on site one day too early. Now we are going back empty handed and having to wait to order one online and wait until it arrives. I may understand why you have the rule but it is punishing the wrong people.

The store looks like a great place if you play MTG. There is a fair selection of Pops and board games as well as other collectibles. The comic section is fairly small and the selection so far is pretty standard. All in all very neat, organized, and clean with friendly enough people but the person we worked with almost had a used car salesman vibe to them. We will be back for sure.

We drove hours to get to Star City Game Center and were upset to realize it was closed for renovation. We thought our drive was in vain until Josh came out. He was the absolute best! He gave us our order and saved us another drive. Josh is the greatest of all time! 11/10 would recommend this place

So tell me how I get a factory sealed case of flesh and blood and the factory tape had their own tape over it. You don’t put clear tape over factory tape. Flag number one. First box had 8 opened packs, second box had 8 opened packs, third box had 8 opened packs and the fourth box had 8 open packs. Why is that? I have never seen that. I could understand maybe one box where factory glue comes apart, but all of them?? On top of clear tape over factory tape?? What if I was collecting the case?? That not acceptable. The case and boxes seem to be resealed. I have opened a lot of flesh and blood and this has been by far the worst pulls I have seen. Everything just adds up and to me is very very fishy...

Their shipping to me in Texas is beating CardKingdom and TCGPlayers by days. The one time I contacted customer service, they answered back promptly and resolved the issue.

Ive been coming here for years for my TCG needs. But, as much as I hate to do it, Im extremely dissappointed in their Pokemon TCG prices during this time. Some items are being sold at double, and even triple the MSRP. I understand the high demand currently, but there are other options. I just wanted to be loyal, but I feel scalped by these price gouging tactics... This squeeze wont last forever, but Im afraid I wont be shopping here anymore.

15 Years later and I still have the absolute worst taste in my mouth ever from this place.As a young child buying Yu-gi-oh with the little money I saved up I opened a God Pack. I had no idea what it was at that moment, all i knew was it had 3 blue eyes in 1 pack along with many other rares.The gentleman who worked there took the pack out of my hands and told me it was something that was wrong and shouldnt happen, and gave me another pack to correct this error.I hope you sleep well knowing you still are thought of as scum.

Well, you cant say much negative about this place! The people are nice and knowledgeable. I sold out of my high end collection to them at the store and they printed me an extremely large check on site. They were good, without having that know it all attitude that you get from so many people at gaming stores where their attitude overshadows any semblance of service. Very cool place.

CHANGE WEBSITE BACK. I dread using it. When Ya look up cards it shows all variance and condition (not grouped together like old site) and all cards with the name in it. Ya gotta scroll to the bottom to find the only thing worth reading on the website which are the deck list. Everything is WAY TO SPACED OUT. Its funny that some parts go to the old website. Dont think ill buy off this website. They are lucky I had to give at least one star. I dont think they tested their website or got feedback from other members of the store. Seems like they rushed out and didnt care if it was finished they just wanted to make money off the lame perks they introduced.

First time visiting with my grandson. I don’t speak Magic but the personnel were very helpful to my age 11 grandson. They were very patient and helped him choose the cards he had written on a list. Will definitely return for future purchases. Very clean and orderly environment with several tables of active games.

I grew up spending my Fridays and Saturdays here. I enjoyed every minute of it wouldnt take it back for the world. I highly suggest bringing your kids out and letting them enjoy the hobbies that are in this building.

Generally i have had some mixed experiences both with ordering and selling cards to them online. I have received damage cards and found that cards I was selling to them that I felt good about the condition being near mint were marked as heavily played.However customer service is really good about responding to issues and I felt satisfied enough with the outcome to continue buying and selling cards. They definitely give the best prices for selling your older heavily played cards.If you are selling cards go in knowing they will scrutinize the condition heavily. But on the flip side of that most cards that you buy from them that are listed as played are in really good condition

Website change is terrible. It went from super easy to the worst one around. No smart search and it will put the set first before the actual card name. Cant find Tide of War with out looking at the entire war of spark set.

The on line store WAS really good, I found their prices a bit higher than others though however it is a place I trust to get good condition cards shipped quickly. Now that they changed their web site I won’t be shopping there, I found it to be hard to navigate.

What did you do to your web site!! it was soo easy to just scroll through and i would on occasion impulse buy (way more than i needed to ) but now your site is so un navigable i have to say screw it before i find even the first card i wanted to check at least bring back advanced search

This place is really cool, has a nice atmosphere. There is a great selection for card sleeves, deck boxes, playmats, and of course singles. I didnt participate, but I did see events taking place which seemed very organized.

It’s alright, very clean and proper, with lots of events and of course, lots of people. A wide card selection, and very willing to take your pricier cards off your hands in exchange for a fair amount of store cred (don’t expect much cash, though, keep in mind they are a sizable business and they do not mind ripping you off). Store’s prices are notoriously high, and their buy prices are as low as can be.—Edit: Pandemic update for the latter part of 2020. Keep in mind that they are only open for 8 hours each on two days.If you’re local and just want your cards (as I don’t recommend coming in to play anywhere), Blade Gaming has a pretty sizable collection for a decent price and has generally friendlier employees. Just as safe, but you’re supporting a small business and even getting your cards cheaper.If you’re not local, TCGPlayer also works far better, even if you’re paying more for shipping.

Friendly, but there is definitely limited product. Small hometown stores have twice the product we found there. Plenty of game space.

Prices are typically higher than other online venders (about 10-15% higher than TCGplayer) but in the past, their better than average website and professionalism in shipping made up for the added expense. This is no longer the case. Their new website is terrible and because of that, international shipping is now run through UPS. A recent order placed (probably my 12th to date) resulted in an $80 brokerage charge. When I called to dispute the charge, the shipping department made no effort to assist and basically told me I should have read the help section of their site, even though there is no mention of duties or taxes when filling in your shipping information. It is clear they do not care about their repeat customers or their business. I would not recommend buying your cards from them.

SCG USED to have one of the most intuitive and easy to use websites for any TCG retailer. But as of November 2019 that changed and it is now one of the worst sites imaginable. Thats not hyperbole.To list a few issues: The wishlist function doesnt work, the search function doesnt find the correct cards, even if you type in the exact name. The bigger your cart gets, the more server errors you receive and wont be able to check out.I used to order from SCG frequently but will never use them again until this site is changed. Take my advice and do not use their online store.

I dont really have any issues with star city. The staff is nice and helpful but honestly the hours suck and being closed three days is terrible.

Good prices and good selection, but charge way to much for shipping. Got a hundred cards and a play mat and they charged me $10. It was 20% of the total.

Customer service is great unless they are super busy. Eager card players and regulars tend to unknowingly cut in line. However, the quality of their cards are amazing even the mostly played cards still look fantastic.

Placed my first ever order with the legendary Star City Games through their online site. Took them some days to process it which I understood due to the disclaimer that they were hit with a big snow storm. Got an email 6 days ago telling me a shipping label had been created, awesome. Tracked it the next day and subsequent days after that and its still in shipping label created status. Sent two emails to CS and received no response. If I wanted this kind of experience I would have paid less for cards through brick and mortar stores on Amazon. Sounds like I am not alone in my experience either which is a shame cause your sites articles are great.

Fun place to go play many card games. Like pokemon and magic the gathering. You can order online and have cards and other merchandise delivered to the store for pickup. It is easy to find from the road.

Had a great time there! Really well ran store with multiple events running at the same time.

Just got my order. Some singles and a few booster packs. Well protected in bubble mailer, extra bubble wrap and a hard case for the singles. Also pulled a baby Jace form one of the booster packs. Beyond ecstatic right now.

Seems a little lack luster at first- like just a place where a good number of people could go play a table top game . But they have AWESOME mats and an infinite online store ! Plus 25 cent rare standard singles in quarter machines ! Not ashamed to say I bring at least a roll of quarters every time .

I do all my MTG business with Star City. They have an amazing selection of cards and they restock on sold-out cards fairly quickly. I live in Ca and everytime I buy cards from them they always arrive quickly and in good condition. Never had a problem with them.

Star City games provided the WORST customer service I have ever had in my life. I had a tournament for over 20 young men who are in a home, and asked to have a magic event. I have spent thousands of dollars with this company over the past year for similar events. Star City refused to ship to the shipping address that we requested and cancelled my order. Star City did not say they were cancelling the order, I had to call them to find out. Star City once again refused to ship to our location, and would not give us expedited shipping so we can receive the cards for our event on Sunday. Due to Star Citys terrible customer service, and lack of communication over 20 young men have been let down, and will not be able to have their event this weekend. Please do not purchase any goods from Star City games, pick a retailer that values their customers.

Obviously being the worlds largest distributer of magic singles, their selection is immaculate. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and the store is well organized.

Its a pretty nice store but, I wasnt in particular wowed considering this is the HQ for prehaps the largest TCG business in the US. I mean, it is everything it needs to be but doesnt strive for anything more than that all things considered. I was at least expecting more on brand merchandise but, even the availability of that on display was somewhat barebones. Their online store though is still the best around.

So, there are three major metics to any MTG destination: the physical store, the play space and the product availability.SSG being one of the major online retailers for singles of course has a huge stock, however the store itself was a major diasspointment - it is less of a store and more an event space. The site serves well in this function and maximizes their space for events, however as I did not visit for an event and simply to shop I found the store was little more than a pick up location for their website; and the problems with operating a physical stores stock using a website is the inability to simply browse and the obvious issue of being able to compare prices - and lets face it, SSGs prices are notably higher than all other websites.Outside of attending an SSG event, I would not reccomend visiting and even if buying singles is your goal only those who live nearby would benefit from the trip.

Awesome selection, helpful staff, relaxed and super friendly atmosphere. Anyone wanting to get into trading card games will feel very comfortable here.

Trading in is fairly quick but ordering cards in store takes a little bit to get to you. Given the selection though its pretty much expected. Aside from that they have a decent selection of playmats, UltraPro pruducts, and small selection of board games.

If collectable care games and or board games are what you enjoy, Star City Games is the place for you! Friendly staff and a casual environment, (unless its tournament time) this is the place to be if you want to game.

It smells like armpit cheese in there. Ordered a bunch of arcbound cards, including 3 arcbound ravagers. They shorted me one ravager (a 15 dollar card), and one or two others. They gave me another without asking to see the cards they had given me (hassle free), but the fact that I had to double check, find it was missing, then ask was a pain. I dont know if they would have been as quick to replace the cards if I hadnt sat in front of the counter and counted them on the spot. And oh God, the smell.

Little secret about Roanoke, VA is that it is a hub for some of the best Magic the Gathering competition out there. Some people drive 3-4 hours away to come play here. The FNMs actually feel like events! I admit that I get my butt thoroughly kicked some days by some of the players here because they are good enough to have made the Pro Qualifying Tours. Despite that, most people are very polite and cool, even if I dont have a chance in beating them. It is generally better to come in with a deck that is ready made for competitive standard as there are people who have built the mono reds and other decks ready made for competition. The SCG website lists some of the decks used to win their Pro Qualifying Tour so that would be a great place to look for a deck build. When starting out, it is generally better to do their drafts or pre-release events. Draft is always available on Fridays. The store has standard competition events on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Modern events occur on Wednesday. Commander occurs on Friday. Their Pre-release events are awesome as they have their own custom playmats and the artist who makes them will be present that day to sign them (Andrea Radeck).I will also add that the staff is excellent and always willing to answer questions. If I want singles immediately, they have a means to provide them very quickly. They can also be ordered online and picked up at the store for free. I have enjoyed coming to this store and it has been one of the best experiences I have had in Roanoke.

These guys do a fine job at nearly monopolizing the MTG secondary market. For a business that could abuse the **** out of price setting, they dont screw you over too bad. Most small-business, local hobby stores base their card prices off of StarCity, so dont expect much better. Thanks to them, the competitive outlook for the game of Magic can flourish and reach higher altitudes. People can crap on them as much as they want and low-rate them because of high prices, and over-competetivness, but they offset it with special sales, unique preorder deals, premium articles and so forth. Overall, good business.

I have shopped with SCG through their website for a little over a year so I think it is a good time for me to give them a review. My experiences of purchasing with them have been great so far. They securely package all of the products that I buy from them, whenever I needed to reach customer service (particularly by email) I received a response no later than 24 hours unless it was a weekend, and I appreciate that they offer various shipping methods and more so that when you create an account you can track your purchase history and manage other account things easily.Another thing that I appreciate about SCG is that I am a sporadic and spontaneous shopper i.e. I have the tendency to make multiple purchases of cards within a given day. A few weeks back I made 2 seperate purchases in less than 24 hours and they sent me an email stating the would combine the orders and credit the shipping cost of one of the order. I dig that!The only thing I have against them is the pricing. You can purchase through TrollandToad, TCG Player, ABU Games, Channel Fireball, etc, and find lower prices on cards. For instance, I just purchased a 75 card Bant Humans deck through TCG Player that totaled $236 including priority shipping. At the time of the purchase I also compared it to what I would pay through SCG and by shopping at TCG Player I saved an estimated $30.Part of me is inclined to think that given the fact they run alot of events throughout the year, have X amount of employees, and pay for articles written by MtG players every week, I could see in part why their prices may be higher compared to their competitors. That said, in most instances I am willing to pay a few extra dollars (depending how much those extra dollars may be) to shop at SCG.In conclusion and as of this writing I would recommend SCG over their competitors, but if you are tight on money or are looking for cards at a cheaper price, there are cheaper places to shop than SCG.

Ive just recently started playing MTG and i built most of my deck by buying individual cards from SCG and most of there prices seems to be fair and the cards come in the exact condition you pay for the employees in the store are all really nice and helpful

Not happy with selling them cards. First off, they have the lowest pricing around. MTGfanatic, Troll and Toad, and Strike Zone have them beat 99% of the time. They do buy more foreign cards, which is a plus. But every single sale I make to them, I feel I grade more than fair, and deduct as needed...and it always comes back with a 25-30% deduction from their mail buyers. Their buylist instructions even say if you make an effort to grade fairly, then they are less likely to be harsh in grading...but always 25-30% taken off. Taking my business elsewhere from now on. They are just trying to pay as little as possible for good quality cards.

Went for a yugi regional on the 30th. Didnt mention anything about a cap on how many players could play or anything. Needless to say they were capped in 30 mins. Then to make matters worse, th told everyone who wasnt playing to leave. The sadest part is when the judges said This is why you rent a building..

Their claim of being the worlds biggest MTG store is all hype and BS. Games n Stuff in Glen Burnie MD has this place beat hands down.
