Awesome shop. Found a vintage amp and the Blackbook crew was knowledgeable and helped ship the amp my way. Amp arrived safely thanks to one of the best packing jobs I’ve seen. Couldn’t recommend more highly!

Nathan and his team at Black Book have been an incredible resource, and have an encyclopedic knowledge of guitars, and well connected nationally. I have worked with Black Book to consign and sell a large collection of high end instruments from my familys estate. Each guitar was carefully evaluated and recd a pro set up for sale. Every transaction was great. Nathan brokered deals all over the country, and communicated with me on sales. Payments were recd quickly. All in all, a wonderful experience. I referred Black Book to friend who also had a smooth, quick turnaround on a consignment. Highly recommended.

Ive been to plenty of vintage guitar shops over the years but there is no better place to find a piece of American musical history than Black Book Guitars. Nathan knows the intricacies of each piece of gear in the shop as they are his passion. This man lives and breathes vintage guitar gear! He also understands how to work within a musicians budget. Ive purchased several pieces from him but none like the most recent. A Portland family who sadly was without a guitar player in their home sold Nathan a few beautiful guitars. Luckily for me, Black Book is invested in the community and cares about the lineage of these guitars and maintaining it. When we had agreed on a fair price, I could visually see his excitement that the guitar, which was only ever owned by one family for more than 50 years, was staying local. It was at this moment that I realized above all else, he wants to find a good home for all of the instruments he possesses. And the service didnt just end with a swipe of my card. Nathan followed up with a video of the guitar when he acquired it, as well as some key pieces of information about the history of my newly beloved guitar. Im blown away and can assure you that youll be too. If youre in the market for a vintage guitar or amp, call Nathan at Black Book Guitars in Portland first!

Not only am I thrilled with the immaculate 1976 RI-made Guild M-80 I just purchased, but also I’m equally excited by the fact I bought it here, at Black Book Guitars. Nathan and Ron were knowledgeable, patient (with my dumb questions) and exuded positivity. If you want a great experience trying on vintage electric and acoustic guitars (and amps!) you’d be hard pressed to have a better experience than you will at Black Book.Seriously great store with excellent, knowledgeable and welcoming staff!

I had the pleasure of dealing with Nathan while I was purchasing an ‘80s Telecaster Elite, and he could not have been nicer or more efficient while the transaction was taking place. I’m definitely going to recommend the shop to my other musician friends and I am extremely happy with such a rare guitar. Thanks very much again for all your help and keep up the good work!

What a great Guitar shop. Felt very comfortable right when we walked in. We were encouraged to play anything, plug in, etc. It was easy to find more than 1 guitar that I wanted. Nathan was extremely knowledgable and explained also in detail the shipping process as we were visiting from out of town. I am debating still between a couple guitars as its not an easy decision but I would absolutely recommend Black Book Guitars to anyone either visiting or local. Keep up the good work and the beautiful selection of vintage guitars.

The best gear in town, very knowledgeable staff, and absolutely perfect repairs. Other spots might be cheaper, but none are better. (Edit: this wasnt meant to say that theyre expensive; I found the rates on fixing up my guitars to be quite fair.)
