The store is recovering from a fire in 2020, so the selection is somewhat limited but does have some findings and an expanding selection of beads and such.As of 6/07/2021 Beads are mostly seed beads but theres a wide variety of colors, sizes and finishes available. Bone beads too, as well as ceramic and stone.The tools and materials needed for beading are well-represented, with different kinds of pliers, needles, threads, wire, etc available.Theres also a section of polished stones and crystals of varying sizes for those doing crystal healing or wanting pretty stones for decorating. They have a gift shop as well.Staff are friendly and helpful but will let you browse in peace. Prices are reasonable.I had visited a number of years earlier and remember there being an impressive variety of... pretty much everything that gets used for beading, with a sense of whimsy in the bulk offerings. Small beads of turtles hatching, for instance.The store has been around for 30 years and has a solid customer base so will likely survive the setback of fire and covid.

The shop suffered a fire not long ago, but they are recovering beautifully. Selection is somewhat limited, but a lot of other bead shops are as well from distribution locations. Store is set up very nicely, family owned for more than 25 years.Wonderful people.

There are so many shortages of things right now in 2021, so they were out of a lot of things I was looking for, but still found plenty of stuff that Im stoked to make jewelry out of. 🥰 Oh, and the staff are a pleasure to speak with and knowledgeable too. 🤩

Wasnt quite set up yet, but we were able to walk in and check it out anyway. Very friendly and welcoming environment, the selection of stones and crystals was surprising. Not bad deals but Ive seen slightly better closer to home. So in exchange for the better service Id say it was worth the drive.

Owners are super helpful...love this place I come for all kinds of beads, threads, needles or knick knacks and even Crystals my daughter loves that part.

I went in a couple of weeks ago looking for specific beads to finish a knitting project. They didnt have them but the owner knew the make and color just by looking at the beads in my piece. The beads were ordered and I picked them up the other day. Now that is customer service. It was my first time in their store and though it is 20+ miles away, I will be back!

The selection is incredible! If you cant find it here, it may not exist. I went in looking for just a few beads and ended up with enough for 50 projects. The staff makes you feel welcome, not watched like at other bead shops. When I need beads this will be my one and only stop from now on.😁

I was happily surprised to stumble into this little off the beaten path shop.They have quite a variety of beads/supplies and the prices were surprisingly fair for how small the place is. (I dont think there is a bare spot any of the walls or counters!)The biggest reason to stop in here though is the people. Both employees & customers were a joy. They were eager to help, giving me advice & suggestions I wouldnt have thought of. The sincere attitudes and good humor put me at ease immediately. The overall feel of the place was relaxed & welcoming, like visiting a good friend.Ill be going back. In fact, I think this shop will be a regular stop every time Im in the area.I definitely recommend you stop by & browse. And while youre there, check out the rocks/gems shop next door too. Another happy accidental find!

I was disappointed to find my favorite bead store boarded up. Phone not being answered either, so assuming out of business or, at minimum, closed for the duration of restrictions. Still showing hours open online.

Dont forget to check out the gift shop attached to A Bead Source. The very best customer service! Fantastic selection of smaller rocks and crystals, as well as larger pieces and jewelry. Lots of neat books about crystals. The bead shop has the biggest selection of beads Ive ever seen, as well as incense and little gift items. A family owned local business. I have always had a pleasant experience shopping here. 5 gold stars!

The selection of beads are great. The only down fall is both ladies that work there arent very helpful when it comes to finding what you need. ALL THREE TIMES Ive come to this store I have felt like a total bother. They are either EATING or just plain TOO busy for good customer service. This is very disappointing because the shop has a lot to offer. This will be my last time👎👎👎👎👎👎

Although theyre hard to find and/or come by, they can gain access to tails for my projects. They are a great, if not the best supply place to get beads from for bead making projects. Though just a little more in price, the fact their supply range is very extensive and 9.9 times out of 10 one can find what theyre looking for.And its the greatest thing since bread & butter that they opened up a gift shop thats adjacent to the original bead supply shop. I highly recommend a visit , youll enjoy seeing what they have for selection of bead making materials that you may want to start your own venture at home!!!! 😺🐺

Lots of crystals and very friendly staff

It was 5 mins to closing she told me I couldnt come in wouldnt let me get what I came for was very rude, I asked if they had skulls she said no I could see them on the rack. Will never come back there again. I took a two hr bus trip just to be treated like trash.

I love going ring and bracelet shopping at the gift shop then walk next door to the bead shop. They have a friendly and knowledgable staff. The prices are fair and the quality is good. Its nice to have a place that isnt selling diamonds and shiny stuff.

Whenever we travel I make it a point to visit local bead shops. Hands down, this is THE BEST shop Ive visited anywhere in the country. Amazing selection, very well organized, great prices, and wonderful staff. LOVE this store!!

The 3 is for the unfriendly attitude of the sales girl. By her energy you would think beading was a native American only art that was stolen. But the older lady who is probably owner saved the day..very helpful

Love to spend my day off shopping there for a few hours. Easy to find what your looking for after you have been there a couple of times. All the women that work there are do nice and willing to help if you need it. I really love the store!

This has been at this location for a long time. They are the closest bead store to my house. They are on the West side of Portland. They have a lot of findings the place is generally clean and well organized. They got rid of the dim lighting and the strong incense.

A very nice bead shop. We were on our way heading back to Washington & this store popped up on the maps page so we stopped in. A wide variety of beads of all sizes & styles. So many colors hanging or loose beads in trays. Loved every bit of it while there & found some glass red hearts that Ive been searching for. Will stop by again when in Portland area.

My favorite crystal store in town. Super Fair prices and knowledgeable staff. I send my clients here all the time because I know theyll get high energy crystals and guidance on which to use.

So, I can see why some people say there is good customer service. They seemed to be helpful to certain customers specifically and exponentially more friendly and welcoming. Well, I walk into a store, and expect that. But, the sad part was that while she was being super friendly with someone else, she was rude to me. Maybe a gender difference? Because all female customers coming through seemed to be cared for delightfully, while every male customer I saw that was relatively youthful was thrown down the pyramid of good service. That said, it is a BIG store, and has every bead you could almost imagine, so that gave it an extra star.

I was visiting from Montana where there are no bead shops -- only Michaels. I found some unusual beads at A Bead Source that i needed to repair a necklace and also stocked up on findings. The gals there could not have been more helpful. They let me repair earrings using their tools since mine are in storage. They helped me find everything I was looking for. I am originally from Chicago and this shop would be one of the best in Chicago as well. A real find!

Bead Source is truly worthy of the name! So many incredible seed beads! I found many unusual, vibrant, and incredible options here with a variety of price-points. Staff was out-of-this-world friendly and helpful. Stop to smell their rose bushes on your way out!! This shop get my Bead Guru Stamp of Approval, Summa cum Laude status!

I just went here recently, & Im sad Ive ever bought beads online when there is a beautiful family-owned business with a huge and varied selection here in Portland. I found the staff friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I also felt free to look around and make decisions. Huge chains may be slightly cheaper certain items, but definitely not on all. The things I needed I either couldnt have gotten at those stores, or found cheaper here. Even if I needed things that were a little pricier here, Id go here anyway despite being on a tight budget. The worlds better quality, selection, & supporting a small business I get a good feel from would more than make up for it.

I have been a customer here for 10+ years, and will always be. Other users say they feel ignored by the staff but I appreciate that they dont hover like at some other places. They gladly me suggestions when trying to figure out a project and their selection is unbeatable. I especially appreciate that I can buy individual beads here, handy when all I need is 2--not a whole pack.

More than just beads, although theres a lot of those, The Bead Source has a little of everything you need for your next project, including leather, feathers, artificial sinew, wire, shells, sage, great advice and guidance and a whole lot more. Bead source was great. The owner herself helped an older friend of mine help himself. He had apparently done some bead work when he was much younger and needs a hobby now. He wanted to try beads again and she was very helpful to him. These many years after he did this artwork he is excited about it again. Seeing enthusiasm about something in him again was great. Thank you to that owner, your kindness helped him in ways you may not have expected. I cant rate her prices on beads because I dont know anything about beads. Lol. Btw I went to the attached boutique shop and purchased some cool glass work at a great price!

Huge Store!! No one was visible when I came in. I felt like I was alone in the store. When the girl came out she was friendly, engaging and helpful in directing me where everything was, how to handle the bead trays for purchases and what supplies were where. I was overwhelmed with the selection and prices. I really liked this store.

Selection is good. prices and customer service SUCK. when i go to this store it almost feels as if i am being actively ignored, especially if there are two or more employees working at the same time (they cant ever seem to stop talking about their personal lives, who gives a &%# anyway). if i ask for assistance they act as if i am bothering them. i hate this store and only shop here because there are some things that i cant find anywhere else.bunch of arrogant smucks !!AVOID IF YOU CAN.

I shop for beads at two places . Michaels & A Bead Source.Both have a great selection. The bead source gets different beads & things you dont find anywhere. Michaels has sales on nice beads so you can get great deals.

Very wide selection of beads, metal, plastic and otherwise. Also sells inscense and plenty of other equipment for jewelery making. Friendly staff, and if they dont have a specific bead you want then you can ask and theyll order and call you when its in the store.

They are a local, family-owned and family run business. Many of the people who work there are relatives and friends. My wife and I have been going there for many years, by choice. They know what theyre doing and they like to be helpful. My guess is that the people who posted the bad reviews 1) had a bad day, 2) ran into someone having a bad day, or 3) were rude and simply got a dose of their own medicine. Speaking of medicine, you wont find a better selection of supplies for Native American apparel making (more than just beads). Dont trust other peoples opinions. They have a GREAT selection, fair prices and theyre worth visiting, just once, to form your own opinion.

Best place by far in portland for beads and beading supplies

I have been a customer off and on for years. Gotten very good and free advice. Dixie and family (friends) run the whole operation. They purchase in bulk and have to string all those beads by hand. They have the largest selection of beads in the Portland/Vancouver area, including Swarovski Crystals, Glass, Pearls, Semi-Prescious gem stones. I believe the poor customer service I have read about is not intentional, they are allow you to explore, they have always taken time to help when asked, beadwork is Art, they are all very creative and dont want to influence your creativity with their ideas. I prefer to take an hour or more to look select change my mind and spend way more than I intended. I have never witnessed anyone being rude to customers.
