This establishment serves food. I think it tastes good, and it is carefully prepared using arguably well-sourced ingredients. If you expect to be treated like royalty, don’t bother. If you expected to be treated fairly and like an equal, step right up and order a darned good sammich.

Don’t miss the pulled pork sandwich. The REAL Italian is a marvel of sandwiches. Expect to hang out with good conversation while Joe prepares awesome food. A&C also has one of the best breakfast sandwiches in town. Beer and wine available to bring home or consume on the premises. Locally sourced produce available in season. One of the best cheeseburgers you can get in Portland. And by far the best Italian. Customer service is great and Joe is always willing to get to know his customers on a personal level. Stop in and stay awhile. Wont regret it.

Great owner, friendly staff, fun events! Interesting selection of wine, cheese, and staples! Everything from fruity pebbles to fennel! We had lots of fun at the rosé tasting this weekend.

Amazing to have a place with friendly and people inviting you into their conversations while waiting for an amazing sandwich. Georges North Shore roast beef for the entire family was amazing! Some seats and outdoor gas fire to stay toasty.

I hate to give this place such a low rating, but unfortunately I feel like it is necessary after eating the “Italian sandwich”. The fillings of the sandwich were good, but the bread was incredibly stale. For a sandwich that is $14 you would expect the whole package.

Amazing pulled pork sandwich! I am a pulled pork sandwich aficionado and this was top notch. The aroma of the smoky pork is what hits you first but its the slaw dressing and the sauce combined with that pork that really pulls (no pun intended) it all together. And he stocks some great local craft beers. I will bring my pulled pork-loving friends here and they will buy me beer for introducing them to the greatness of A & C.

I do not want to write this review. Im going to say its one of the best lunch spots in Portland, a true hidden gem. Ill go on about the fabulous food, the best burger, a great house made pastrami, a stellar breakfast sandwich etc etc. Ill probably ramble on about how awesome the people working there are, all friendly and helpful - genuinely happy to make you happy with the food. I might even mention the fantastic social media presence they maintain. Seriously, they have pot pies in the winter. But heres the thing, if I write all that great stuff you will just end up going there again and again and again because you will fall in love with it like I have. Then youll tell all your friends to go here and then they will love it. That will be bad for me, because I wont be able to get a seat. So, bottom line - dont go here. I will let you know when it is safe to do so. OK, maybe go once, only so you know how good food can actually be.

Visited A&C for my first time ever today! Had the burger and my friend from jersey had the Italian, which she said was the best she had in Portland! The burger was phenomenal, as well as the customer service. Will definitely be visiting again!

Window service, straight-to-the-point sandwiches, even better people. If you want a fast delicious classic Italian sub/burger/cheesesteak/friend chicken sandwich, this is the only place in Portland to go.

Im still thinking about my Italian sandwich days after having eaten it. From the roll, down to the sliced-to-order cold cuts, this thing was a marvel. There are a ton of flavors working together, with no single one overpowering any of the others. We were visiting from out of town and were lucky enough to be told about this spot. The scene on Washington Ave continues to step up with this gem of a grocery and sandwich counter. The grocery selection items were exactly what I look for in a local, curated neighborhood grocery experience and the roast beef sandwich that I took away for lunch was perfect. Like, actually one of the best roast beef sandwiches Ive ever had. The owner seems like a chill guy who enjoys what he does, and that energy permeates this spot. Ill be coming here again. And again. And again.

Joe has been part of the Portland food movement since before there was one, and his grocery doesnt disappoint. Killer selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, crazy good (and inexpensive) daily sandwich specials. I hear the breakfast sandwich is best in town, but I havent had it yet.

The worst part of my breakfast sandwich this morning was having to take the last bite...Not only were the eggs fluffy, flavorful, and filling, they were locally sourced and it made all the difference.Perfect price point for a quality, well seasoned and constructed sandwich which can be hard to find in Portland these days.Will be a return customer for sure.

A little overwhelming when you walk in. The product on the shelving looks a little disorganized, but a decent selection that will probably evolve as the consumer base dictates.Didn’t get anything this time, but I am intrigued by one of the rolls I saw in the photos on here.

The small storefront hides delicious sandwiches, the holiday-limited BBQ sandwich is very ecstasy, and the smoked eight-hour barbecue is delicious!So glad to step in this cute store. The BBQ sandwich is amazing! Definitely visit again.
