In our wanderings, my wife and I are discovering new places all the time, but this one took us both by surprise. Wandering down 23rd, we came upon this shop while waiting for the Tavern & Pool location on the other end of the block to open up 10 minutes later. What a cool shop!There are simply hundreds of microbrews on the shelves or in the coolers here, many of them obscure or unusual draughts, of all flavor profiles, from stouts to sours. Even drinking vinegar! Behind the counter, a healthy selection (~24) of brews are available for filling bottles and growlers. McMenamins alcohols, memorabilia and paraphernalia, souvenirs, gifts, interesting treats and snacks, and a healthy selection of tools of the trade (coasters, bottle openers, glassware, etc) fills out the shelving island in the center of the store.If you cant find something you like here, head to a dive bar up the street and order a Budweiser, because this place isnt for you. Im more of a hard alcohol imbiber myself, but I could get lost in the adventure of picking out a handful of cans (you can build your own 4-packs here!) and rolling the dice. In fact, the adventure has already begun! The 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop has jumped straight to the top of my go-to places when I want to try something new, exotic or just plain different!

Went in for a cider, and to my surprise... They sell liquor there! So I bought some delicious gin. Great service, not out of the price range of the gin I usually buy, (around $30.00 for a bottle) and on 23rd and Thurman, the people watching is fantastic.

Excellent selection of great beers. They offer mix and match flights of every beer on tap. Friendly and attentive service.

If love McMenamins or just like beer and cider this is a great place to try a new beer with a $1 fee if you drink it in the shop. Also you can fill your growler which is nice. Lots McMenamins swag from shirt to coaster. It was a fun stop on our trip to Portland today.

It doesnt look too crazy on the outside, but man the inside is great! This place perfectly showcases how McMenamins focuses on local businesses, as a local business. Not only can you get bottles, cans, and pints of McMenamins beers, but there are also tons of snacks, nick-nacks, and specialty goods from dozens of Oregon businesses that I wouldnt have heard of otherwise. Staff are also thoughtful and will give you recommendations on whatever youre looking for.When we went, we got two awesome McMenamins pint glasses, but Im definitely going back for more.

They have a great selection of interesting ciders, sours, wines, beers etc... also a nice section of oregon and local gift merchandise.

Great place to pick up 16oz cans (e.g. Terminator, ruby, hammerhead, ciders), 32oz crawlers or get a growler fill of your favorite McMenamins beer. They have some nice weekday deals for discounts on growler & growler fills, too.

The have great Selection of beers for sale. A friendly and knowledgeable staff at the bar to answer your questions. They also have a taps, so you can have pint while youre there. There is only outside seating, as of March 7th 2021.

A stop when I go to Portland for some goodies to take back home i couldnt find anywhere else.Covid safe feeling environment, everytime I have been in it has just been us and one employee so exposure was absolutely minimal! 😁Definitely check it out.

Wonderful little shop with great prices on imported beers. High prices on local beers has nothing to do with this shop just the prices of those beers. Employees are always friendly and helpful when you want suggestions on what to try.

I like bottles, so stopping at the shop was a must. They have some beautiful bottles here, so if you like pretty glass bottles, you definitely should go here as well.But, even better, many of these bottles have things in them. In fact, many are filled with adult grain beverages. McMenamins make their own beer, some of which can be pretty okay, and rarely superb. They also make more potent spirits like whiskey, vodka, gin and the like. Some of the pretty bottles have some of these tasty spirits in them, which is a win-win.And the best part, it doesnt come with the legendary McMenamins table service, so you can enjoy your new pretty bottle at home in a reasonable amount of time! You should go!5 ice cubes.

Popped in for my husbands surprise 50th birthday party to get a few things and left with $300 worth of beer and cider in 10 minutes. Helpful staff and fun atmosphere.

The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable to steer you in a few directions for your personal taste and their selection has something to offer for any taste bud. I have been in a few times and interacted with different people each time. I was more than pleased in the store as well as once I got home and tasted the suggestions.

McMenamins is always a wonderful experience! This is a great location you will find locally made items (soap, hats, key chains) and spirits. Just make sure you bring your mask with you as it is required! Thank you for that policy McMenamins makes me feel better shopping there.

Old-school mix of a bottle shop and bar, with a solid variety of local beer and trinkets, courtesy of one of the oldest breweries in town.

Swung in for a Crowler(32oz can growler) of imperial Brown ale and left with some Edgefield whisky, rum and Cornelius Pass Roadhouse hazelnut liqour.Great place fill a growler from the rotating brews on tap or snag a bottle of one of the limited editions.Not to say there isnt an exceptional selection of wines and ciders.

The number, variety, and diversity of bottles were amazing. They will pour them without corkage fee. The beers on tap both by McMenamins and guest taps were very, very special as well. The bar tenders were friendly and knowledgeable.

The selection is amazing, and theyre always willing to not only suggest new things to try, but will do their best to find things you might be looking for. The whole staff is great, and the bar here is great to hit up after work. I cannot any more highly recommend you give the place a try.If nothing else, swing by just to see the selection of bottles. Dont hesitate to stay for a pint or two.

What a great place, they have such a big selection. I even found cider that I thought you could only get in Europe, but its there! The bartender has great recommendations and is sure to help you find a good beer or another kind of drink. The atmosphere is just great too.

McMenamins 23rd Ave Bottle Shop was a great stop for my wife and I while visiting Portland. They had such a great variety of beers from IPAs (my favorite) to stouts and more. Hunter was really friendly and talked to is for a good long while and helped us put a lot. The beers they had on tap were amazing and the food was great as well. We got a small pizza to snack on while we were out walking around and it was so good. We ended up spending almost 2 hours in the store looking around, talking, and eating. It was a great place.

What a lovely place! Stopped in to try some funky new sours and although the guy there was slammed he still managed to find some time to give me some recommendations and a couple tasters. Top notch service, great atmosphere, the boardgames are a nice touch, and most of all beer was delicious! Will be back!

This place is amazing. Great draft list, incredible bottle collection in wall to wall coolers. Waitstaff was super friendly.Tots can be ordered in from the bar next door and bright to you here. The draft list is much better here than next door at the pool hall bar.Seriously, order the Cajun tater tots.

Staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. Great selection of merchandise as well as beers and drinks. Good prices. Easy to get to. Bought a beautiful growler. Filled it with ruby which is an easy drinking fruit forward light beer. Went back a second time in the same vacation because it was so great. Definitely recommend checking it out.

I really enjoy visiting the Bottle Shop on 23rd. The selection of beers on tap is diverse and delicious. Their selection of bottled wines and beers is impressive. The prices for their more specialized bottles dont seem inflated either. The tasting events Ive attended have been fun. This has proven to be a good place to meet up with friends when spending an afternoon/evening in NW.

Great selection for the NW 23rd area. If you dont want to drive to the east side, this is a good choice.

This place is so great! Im so glad I found it! I got some old favorites, and new things to try with friends. It was a lot of fun. Will definitely be a mandatory stop for every future Portland trip. They also have a huge menu of beers on tap. I couldnt enjoy them this last time because I had to drive, but will plan better for next time. Cant wait to go back!

This is one of the best places to view and pick up a wide variety of McMenamins swag. The Bottle Shop also carries a nice selection of domestic and imported beer. In the summer you can sit at a sidewalk table and consume on-site; and you can always fill up a growler.

Great selection of harder to find beers but they are noticeably more expensive than just about anywhere else nearby that has the same beer. Go there for something special that you cant get somewhere else. The people working there are friendly and helpful too.

This is a cool shop. A decent bottle selection, but also Taps of good beers for growlers to go. I recommend it.

This place has a selection near rivaling Belmont Station (though it lacks some of its charm). The staff here are super friendly, patient for you to take your time, and helpful if you need a recommendation. If you like beer, drop off here before heading to the Abbey, up the street.

Brilliant concept: a thousand different beers in coolers- you pick the ones you want at retail prices, they open them, and you drink them. Great wine selection too and 5$ wine corking fees (again, on retail prices). Several of our party were from Michigan and they even found their local beers from home. How can you go wrong? Cheers!

I love stopping in every now and again to find some unique limited production ciders and craft brews. Their cider menu is second to none!

Very nice place, a very good beers and wine selection for such a small shop. Got a couple souvenirs and a surprise beer for 2$ at the counter. Staff is very nice, also I tried some local beer from a local producer who was sponsoring her beer at the shop.

Great selection of beers, not just local beers. They also have a gift section for all your beverage needs and then some. Theres also a bar and tables to enjoy beverages while you are there. Small parking lot for 15 minute guests otherwise there is street parking.

I walked in because I knew the company previously. I asked if they had food only to find out its a niche location next to thier bigger general location. I can only say with genuine Revelation, my life and Outlook are forever changed. The customers were very talkative if you are too. Very supportive and with an open and silent ear, until your done talking.I am now a different person, who is super excited that I did walk in. I wont be in the area likely again, but if I were to be? Yes, this is where I would be to have an amazing conversation with absolutely awesome customers.Not everyone will have the same experience, but you should try a rubinator! A very friendly place....
