Delicious bagels! Love this location on Foster Road. Wide variety of flavors including sesame, pumpernickel, everything and jalapeño! Variety of flavored smears including vegetables, scallion and jalapeño.

Bagels and sandwiches are great, but they need to be more organized. Adding a second register or line for call-in orders would make a world of difference in customer satisfaction. They have the space to be able to do this safely during a pandemic. Other restaurants offer this, and HH Bagels was like this prior to Covid-19, but now customers have to wait outside. I can tell you where I won’t be dining this winter.

GREAT bagels. I got Lox with a surprise of FRESH DILL. MMM, so good. Very pandemic aware with folks inside only to order and a sweet little speaker to hear your order called outside. But at 8:30am on Friday, it is busy! and a little line management (chalk on the sidewalk?) outside would have been appreciated. Or Get friendly with your neighbors so you know who is next :)

TOP-NOTCH bagel sandwiches and an awesome host/cashier! Customer service is EVERYTHING. Henry Higgins BB, you are lucky to have him. He gave us (3) free cookies, in addition to our delish breakfast bagels. We got the sausage, egg and cream cheese on an everything bagel. Highly recommended. This place is a total GEM!

As someone who loves bagels and spent 6 years in NYC eating them daily I must say Im so happy to have found this place. Super delicious! Some people might not know but you can ask for them to be toasted and its heavenly. Really like how this place has handled all the transitions.

They have very good bagels, but man are they slow. It’s not a bad day, or something else, they are always slow. I thought I had figured out a hack, to just get the bagels and cream cheese and so the toasting and slathering of cream cheese myself. No joke, it’s faster to get the bagels, drive home, toast them, and enjoy. Today I had to wait for that as well. 45 minutes for a half dozen bagels, some cream cheese and a drip coffee.Summary: great bagels, extremely slow. Be prepared to wait most of your day for some bagels.

Higgins was a staple for me whenever I was in the Foster neighborhood. Always a lil line out the door (which is good) but orders always got to me in a timely manner. My fav part was the vibe from the employees, and they seemed to get along as well. I feel like over the year though management has had to change. Morale of the employees seemed kind of low. Portland is a small community and whatever has happened to employees at the shop will get around.

BAGELS BAGELS BAGELS! Very decent prices. Good selection. I like their breakfast menu. We have been able to try all sorts of bagels they have for selection. Day old bagels are good too! Its a great Foster stop thats been around for awhile.

Genuinely friendly service and our breakfast sandwiches were excellent! It was scary too because I got a lox sandwich which I like but my partner got ham and I like that too and I didnt wanna be secretly jealous (you know you get). But my sammy was perfect. And then they gave us a surprise hookup! Way cool start to the day.

Bagels are fine, but every time I order from this place or the Sellwood location they get my order wrong. And I am not joking, every time except once when the order was just a sandwich... something about multi item orders just doesnt work... How hard is it to count bagels?? 1/2 dozen is 6 bagels, not 10, not 13.... A cheese bagel is not an everything bagel. How hard can it be to run a bagel shop when its your main business activity.... Either my luck or I order when everyone is at their peak highs lol

Well I still think that Bernsteins is the best in Portland but Harry Higgins is certainly right up there. Wonderful staff eager to help delicious Bagels

I would give this place 15 stars if the service were better. The cashier is never polite and they are so unbelievably slow it’s infuriating. I finally just ordered a bag of bagels so I wouldn’t have to wait 40 minutes for them to toast two bagels and I’m still here 20 minutes later. It makes zero sense. Put some process improvements in place. It would make a world of difference.

The bagels are very good. I ordered delivery of a dozen bagels online. When I received the order , I was short one bagel. And half the order was wrong!So my review is . Go to the store and buy them but Do not order online! Embarrassed as this was for a get together and I had them delivered to the parties address. 😠

Salmon and cream cheese bagel and egg and cheese bagel and mocha were very good.

Their Chai is really yummy. I always get the same thing. An everything bagel with a salmon smear topped with avocado. With a side of chai. Really yummy treat.

Amazing breakfast bagels at fair prices. The artwork on the walls @ the foster location is very beautiful. This place is certainly worth checking out. A Portland staple. As their buttons, magnets, and stickers say, I love Henry Higgins.

Really GREAT bagels and coffee, and super friendly staff. We came specifically and enthusiastically in response to a recent Facebook post from HHBB mentioning their vegan options and that half their staff are vegan themselves. (Hurray!) We ordered an everything bagel with Tofutti spread, and a cinnamon raisin with Earth Balance butter. Delicious! Muddworks roasters americano was a perfect accompaniment. The sandwiches look good, but we were a little perplexed that we didnt see any vegan cheeses and few meat alternatives. {They have a soy sausage patty, but its Morningstar Farms and last time I checked, those arent vegan. They do have Field Roast bagel dogs, though! Would love to see more Field Roast options added!)Its a wonderful place to get amazing bagels and we look forward to visiting a lot in the future. We grabbed even more bagels to take home, they were so good!

My favorite bagel shop in Portland. Their vegan bagel dogs are delicious, and I appreciate they have Tofutti available as a substitute for cream cheese.

Really good bagels (Im from NY and theyre my go-to when Im homesick), vegan and omnivore options, and awesome staff. We go at least once a month and have never been disappointed by the food, service, or cleanliness of the place. Its always been great. (However, we never go during the super busy times so I dont know what thats like.)

Ordered two Reuben sandwiches for pickup and was overcharged $3 per sandwich. The website says $8.50 and I was charged $11.50. When I objected the employee told me the prices hadn’t been updated. Now I see a review from six months ago with the exact same complaint.The food was okay. The bagel was good but the corned beef on my Reuben sandwich was tough and fatty, making it difficult to chew. Not what I expect from corned beef.If I could trust the prices, then I might return here for bagels, although not likely for prepared food.

I just picked up my order and found a hair in the bacon on my bagel and had to spit it out only to pull the rest out of the sandwich that didn’t make it in my mouth sickening especially with Covid. Never again. I’m definitely reporting it to Postmates as well.

A neighborhood gem! They remind me of the many wonderful East Coast bagel shops I grew up with. Great bagels and great coffee in a cozy little shop on Foster. They get busy on the weekends, but for good reason! Their bagels really are a cut above the rest. I definitely recommend Henry Higgins.

Used to like this place until my experience this morning. I ordered two bagels (mine was $6 according to the menu), but I was overcharged. I asked the cashier and he told me its because its $.75 per vegetable. I pointed to the menu and he tried to tell me that that was something different. So, I said whatever. My boyfriend and I left for 15 minutes, then came back to pick up our bagels. After waiting another five minutes for one person to order, a different guy slowly walked to the counter and just stared at us. As he was walking up my boyfriend mentioned the people working were moving slowly. We asked for our bagels and the guy asked what we said before that. He then purposefully moved slower to grab our bagels and threw the bag on the counter. We grabbed it and walked away and he yelled at us, you have to pay for that! I said back, we did and we were overcharged. Ive never encountered someone that aggressive at any restaurant before. Extremely disappointed and wont be coming back.Update: I just opened my sandwich and it’s literally bread and the 4 veggies I asked for. No mayo, no mustard, no cheese. You’ve really outdone yourselves, Henry Higgins.

I had my first experience with this business on Foster and the service was atrocious! After discovering that my order was incorrect, I politely brought it to the attention of the person working the window. An employee from the kitchen area walked up front, stared me down for approximately 10 seconds, shook his head in irritation and made their way back to the kitchen. I motioned for the employee to come and speak with me and asked if I had offended him or if there was a problem. I was given the excuse that I was in his line of sight and not to flatter myself. As a person whos spent many years in the service industry, if find this inexcusable. There was no misunderstanding and will be sure to Not recommend this business.

PSA : The Reuben is $11.50They have misposted prices on their bagels. Posted as $8.50 but they charging 3$ more... the Reubens price, as I was told, went up about a month ago. I paid for my meal but was caught unaware my sandwich was 11.50 Shouldnt businesses honor their posted prices? When I asked for a receipt and I made the suggestion of update, the folks were pretty unapologetic. No matter, I guess I just wont get the Reuben.In short, the bagels are amazing. Service pretty good on average. Prices: terrible.

Good bagel shop with a number of selections and seasonal offerings. Their breakfast sandwiches are delicious and fairly priced. Theres only a single cashier so be prepared for a relatively long wait time on the weekends, but the folks that work there are speedy and polite. Highly recommend.

I wanted to like this place and was excited to check it out. I got a sea salt bagel with egg, bacon and tomato. There was just way too much salt on it. I tried scraping it off and picking parts of it off but it was still too much. Tasted like I accidentally spilled a salt shaker on my eggs. My partners bagel was garlic and I also thought it was too heavy on the garlic. Still beat the salt bagel. Not too eager to go back. I’m also skeptical of the reviews because they give a 15% discount for a positive review.

These are the best bagels Ive had in town. Staff is friendly. Get there early, bagels sell out.

Bagels are good but the Service is abysmal. The staff look like they would rather be doing ANYTHING else than working there and are incredibly slow. I only go here if I have a lot of time to wait. I know this isnt NY but even by Portland standards this is slow. My advice to the owners are to hire staff who seem like they want to be there and who value customers time.

HH makes a mean bagel sandwich. I live in the hood and get them with some regularity, so I feel qualified to say that. ;-) However, that isnt the main reason for this review. Rather, this review is for the excellent customer service I received from the early morning crew today (4/24). I called in an order yesterday, for 3 dozen bagels, to pick up today. Somewhere down the line that wasnt communicated to todays staff. Not only were they super apologetic, they hustled and had my order ready fast (and I mean, FAST - I waited *maybe* 5 min). Whats more, they sliced all 36 bagels. That makes life that much easier for my team - thank you! Really appreciate the extra kindness and all hands on deck.

Bagels are dense and chewy. Staff is great. There is a lot of variety in the types of bagels and the way you can get them prepared. Its very popular so there can sometime be a bit of a wait.

Excellent bagels and great sandwiches.

Spent $16 on a grinder bagel and two small bottled juices (like 8 oz.) After tip it was $20 and you tip before you receive food.The grinder ingredients were decent. I chose a jalapeno bagel and i swear it was nothing but a plain bagel. That and the price were the biggest problem. If you are going to charge so much for juice get some fresh squeezed out there maybe Reinvest in your place. The menu was also a tiny bit confusing. Also wait time was terrible for a cold sandwhich bagel. Like 20 minutes to receive the food and I was the only customer there.

I’ve been here twice in the last two weeks, never much of a line but it will take 45 minutes to get your food. Don’t tip these people period.

I go to HH regularly and order a double toasted bagel with cream cheese. They often single toast. They sometimes dont start my call in order by the time I arrive despite being empty. Today, they single toasted again and barely put any cream cheese on my bagel. Im done.

Good bagels wish they asked if I wanted the two dozen sliced up. Just need to clean the place better, bagel topping all over the floor and the fans on the ceiling need to be deep cleaned. Very busy place if you dont mind the wait.

I run a kitchen here in town and have to say hands down the worst bagel shop in Portland. I live blocks away and have ordered food through them on numerous occasions. The only thing you can count on is that something will be missing from your order or made incorrectly. As a cook myself, I have never felt the need to write a scathing review about a place, because I understand that we all have bad days. However, the consistent foibles (i.e. wrong type of bagel, missing meat in a breakfast sandwich, missing items entirely) are an embarrassment to my craft and point to an underlying and consistent lack of attention to detail. I cannot discommend this establishment enough. Spend your bagel dollar elsewhere.

As good or better than any other bagel you will find in Portland. I have had better in NYC, and possibly SF, but nowhere else.

So I LOVE that theyre boiling bagels. A lot of chains went to steaming. Higgins is a little bit steep... Make sure you get your remaining bagels in the freezer. Oh and Bialis are only on Saturdays FYI.

I wasnt blown away or anything by the bagels here. That being said, its cheap and still tasty. Its snowing as Im typing this, so it was a nice warm spot to get some hot coffee and breakfast while we escape the cold.

I’m disappointed. I ordered the lox sandwich. I asked fo no capers and no onions. It was written on the receipt. Guess what? I got capers and onions!They must have been busy and didn’t read the order properly. 🙁

I love this place! When Im missing NY bagels I come here. The bagels are very good and they have vegetarian and vegan options!!!! Also, I have seen this place when theyre busy and when theyre slow, the staff is really impressive. Beyond being friendly and generally pleasant to interact with, theyre super fast when its slammed (and have never messed up my order) and always cleaning when its slow. Someone is definitely doing something right managing this place. Highly recommend.

I love Henry Higgins. Quintessential punk rock bagel shop. Bagels are always fresh and super good. I regularly stop by to bring bagels into work. Even the day olds are still really good. Ive always found the staff to be friendly, a bit quiet if anything, and definitely never rude, so it makes me sad to see them getting dissed in some of these reviews. Its an in and out bagel shop, theyre hustling, stoked to have them on Foster!

This is a local Bagle Shop that is very live and vibrant. They have local art on the walls monthly by different artist, the music is great, the customer service is outstanding and it is so so good.I highly recommend stopping by and checking this place out for your breakfast... Service is salty, and they do regularly mess up orders, but the bagels are bomb not gonna lie, and the experience all part of its charm. Y so sensitive?

Knew this company before it had a physical location. Am thrilled to see them open a storefront. It is well worth the visit. The bagels are fresh, there is no loud music playing - you can actually have a conversation with your cohorts - and there is coffee, indoor seating and options of other items of interest. Good to see a small business thrive in Portland, OR.

3rd visit; staff is always polite, kind, courteous, prompt, greeting us as we enter and our food has been quick and tasty. I like the local art on the walls. Only things I would change: put a garbage/bus bins closer to the window bar seating (maybe get a shelf for the kid games and stuff) and expand on their coffee/self serve bar. I bet they would do well selling hanging plants in the large windows.So happy to have a bagel shop in the neighborhood finally!

This location was very busy on the Saturday morning I went, but rightfully so!! The bagels are amazing. I thought bagels were just dry, hard toast until I visited Henrys. Bagels are delicious!! Well, their bagels are delicious!!! Go try one!
