Just found my local mechanic. Pretty darn happy with the service provided. I scheduled an appointment at a time that worked for me in advance, got my pickup truck in and out within the same day, and the truck now drives like a dream. I didnt have to sit there for 10 minutes getting up-sold on services I didnt want and I wasnt slammed with texts for other repairs I should consider. Yep, I know my truck has areas of improvement but the Tom Dwyer team was able to keep on task with the hot topic of the day without hassling me. I didnt get that type of professionalism from the Toyota dealership the previous 5 years. Kyle was wide awake and courteous at 8AM and Dean had a great sense of humor both on and off the phone. Overpriced and tried to sell me on some preventative maintenance far before my vehicle’s maintenance schedule. The business is in a gravel lot which was hard to navigate for my car. Not to mention it was covered in grease and dust when they were done. They should either lower their prices or offer a free car wash with service.

Discovered Tom Dwyer after moving to Sellwood from NE Portland. Job done right the first time for a very fair price. Have been back a few times since and really like doing business with these guys. TOM DWYER WILL NOT WORK ON CARS THAT HAVE A BRANDED TITLE.I learned this after waiting in line for two weeks to get my started replaced.Once they received my car (not yet aware that my title is branded) they quoted me $850 to change out my starter. This quote sounded incredibly high so I shopped around and found multiple mechanics in town who quoted $450–$500. On top of this they then tried to sell me on a laundry list of fixes including the classic Your cabin air filter is dirty.When I called to have Tom Dwyer explain their pricing I mentioned that my title was salvaged in which case they explained to me that they will not even touch my car. I have never had another mechanic say this is an issue and nowhere on their site does it mention that this non-starter.After two weeks of waiting and accumulating 2 rounds of tow fees, I still have a car that will not start.

I just got off the phone with Kyle, and he was really unaccommodating. I work Monday-Friday and I asked how late in the day they were open and he said he didnt like to take cars in later in the day. He said that I could drop it off one late afternoon so they could work on it the next morning, which I would have been fine with, but he seemed like he really didnt want to do that. So I asked if I could bring my car in Friday at noon and he said he didnt like to take cars in on Friday because they couldnt order parts until Monday. He basically said that unless I can bring it in during a weekday morning, he couldnt help. Real bummer.

High prices as with most shops. Seems like automotive shops should get ready to start losing business.

My mom found Tom Dwyer through recommendations on Nextdoor. She was very happy with their service on her Prius especially since shes always nervous about being overcharged. (Lets not pretend thats not a problem with some mechanics.)Next a friend went, equally happy with her service.We took our Toyota Highlander when it needed routine service and they said they dont do that! They do an evaluation and decide what needs to be serviced instead of just following the guidelines and replacing things that are just fine. We needed new brakes (which I already suspected) and their price was right in the appropriate range. They also solved an ongoing mystery: the tire pressure light was always on, despite checking our tires many times. Turns out the spare has a sensor and it was low! I had no idea.I highly recommend them.

Weve been using Tom Dwyer Automotive services for somewhere around 10 years Id say. Weve always left happy with our interaction and confident the work was done well at a fair price. I can recall only one minor issue that arose from a miscommunication and when I brought it up it was resolved in my favor with no discussion needed. Its nice to not feel anxious about car repairs. I’ve been driving for nearly 50 years. During that time, I’ve taken my cars for service to various auto shops and dealers in Los Angeles, where I used to live, and in the Portland metro area since 1985. Without a doubt, Tom Dwyer Automotive is the best – the best, Jerry! – repair shop I’ve ever experienced. (And no, I’m not a friend or relative of the owner).I found TDA through a Google search and they got nearly 5-star reviews across the board. No wonder: their service and follow-up are extraordinary! I first called them on Sept. 3 to set up an appointment for the following week to check the brakes on our 2003 Camry. They were spongy and squealing, and I knew they needed replacement. I talked to Perry, one of their services advisors, over the phone. They did a thorough inspection for the brakes and some other maintenance, and he quoted me a price which seemed reasonable. After they did the work and I picked up my car, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the actual price was $80 less than the quote! Who does that?More importantly, they do extraordinary follow-up with personal notes in the mail, newsletters and phone calls. Yesterday I received a call from Charles, their marketing manager, informing me that they’ll donate to a Portland charity because of a referral I gave them. Who does that?Suffice to say, they’ve earned my business for the long haul. You shouldn’t waste your time getting estimates from dealers or other auto shops. They won’t match Tom Dwyer for quality work, fair pricing, community outreach or after-service follow up. Keep up the good work!

Dean and his team were great! I came in because my Nissan Xterra had the dreaded SMOD. Dean let me know that Nissan recommends replacing the radiator and transmission if this happens due to the coolant getting into the transmission. He let me know that there was a possibility that just flushing the transmission and replacing the radiator would clear the transmission of all the coolant and we could avoid having to replace the transmission altogether. We went ahead with that option and luckily, the car is running smoothly and the check engine light hasn’t come back on.Dean was great to work with and was able to save me ~$4,000. I’ll most definitely be back if I have any more car troubles.Thank you Dean and team!

Theyve done it all and we love their work. They know what theyre doing, they treat us well, and they stand behind the quality of their work.As a female customer, I would to point out something really important -- Sometimes women are not treated so well by mechanics or customer service people in automotive repair shops. There are sometimes assumptions in this industry that women dont know what theyre talking about, and we have to be on guard against being ripped off. All I can say is this shop is as good as it gets and pretty reasonable for the quality of work you get. I actually waited for my CV boots to get repaired and I watched Stacey handle about a dozen walk-ins each with attention and very friendly service. I honestly still cant believe how busy this guy gets and never cops an attitude. If you have a Honda go here. Not only that but if you live in Portland, OR you will pay half the going rate here.

I cant say enough good things about this shop. I started taking my cars to Tom Dwyer at least 10 years ago after a friend personally recommended them, and now I wouldnt go anywhere else. I trust them completely: theyve told me when repairs werent really necessary and I could continue to drive my old car around. Theyre great for pre-purchase inspections if youre looking to buy a used car and theyll be very thorough. I recommend them to everyone I know: honesty, integrity, and some character too! My 2005 PT Cruiser died and worked with Perry. He gave me a quote that was based on worse case scenario and came back $500 less and a day early. Ken and Drew are also excellent to work with and I appreciate their dedication to customer service!

They exceeded expectations every time. We lived in Scappoose and would have our cars towed to Tom Dwyer when necessary not trusting anyone else. It was hard to move to Spokane because we didnt want to leave Tom Dwyer! But even after we moved they happily answered a question on my car - and solved the issue over the phone! I used Toms place for the first time last month, and will now adopt them as my preferred repair shop. Heres why. I had the notorious System Too Lean code from the Check Engine light occur on my 06 Corolla and was concerned about the extent of repairs having had the same on another car last year I had a call from them as they started working on the car and was immediately impressed by two things: not only did they not try to sell me maintenance that had already been done (as other places do) but the technician listened to my diagnosis and from that knew immediately what repair was needed (intake manifold gasket). I did agree to having the drive belt replaced but suspected it needed that anyway. Furthermore, they provided an accurate estimate before starting work and cost was close to what I expected. And if that wasnt enough, they even provided transportation back to their place from my work. Thank you guys for your sheer professionalism. You have a new very satisfied customer!

I have to date had excellent service from T. Dwyer. I was told by Firestone when I took my car in for a dead battery, that if I didnt let them fix my breaks before I left their automotive repair, I was heading for impending doom. I took my car to T. Dyer for a second opinion and they did the diagnostics and asked problem, what problem?. They told me based on the DATA that I did not need to have my breaks done. I have been having my car serviced by T. Dwyer ever since and they are really good, not the cheapest, but as I always say, when you buy quality, you only cry once. Oh and as for the politics, I would never take my car to a dealership based solely on the dealerships political leanings but I like supporting a company that shares my political beliefs. Just an added bonus. Keep up the great work Tom.
