I am always impressed when businesses in Oakland have free parking! Koreana Plaza Markets parking lot even has security guards. I was taking a picture of a sign in the parking lot, and a security guard walked over to see what I was doing. Before I entered the main market, I decided to check out there side store that has lots of non-food items. To get in both stores, first you are required to put on gloves, and then hand sanitizer. They have some very cool large ceramic pots with lids, besides a full gamut of pots, woks, and utensils. There us a lot to see. Some of the produce looked a little neglected--some were wilted. They have fish that are waiting to go home with someone--really fresh--they are alive!!! There is a fish monger there if you want someone to handle the fish. Most of the food market is filled with a huge amount of dry products that are in bags and boxes: seeds, noodles, spices, and more. A little overwhelming if you are new to shopping for Korean foods, and really great if you want variety. They have Korean cuts of beef; lots of frozen fish; refrigerated convenience ethnic foods; and freshly prepared foods ready to eat. I bought some, and ate it in the parking lot (in my car). Yum yum.I will come here again.

Great place for fresh meat seafood and produce. A great selection of frozen seafood. Also a good selection of premade Asian dishes/sushi/appetizers etc. Large selection of noodles, teas, sauces and they have a bakery as well. And I have to say that its the most Covid safe place to shop that I know of in the bay area. You have to sanitize your hands, wear gloves, and sanitize your gloves before you enter the store. And all the carts are sanitized after use. Their thoroughness beats any other stores Ive been to.

I use to love this place until today.I went to buy supplies for a hot pot party. I’m fully Vaxxed and they are one of the few places that require masks. I understand safety, so I was cool with that even though I had no mask. I bought one in the store and get to shopping. I go in and several folks are unmasked, but whatever.I go to pay in the wares portion. The lady checks my 100 in the machine, with a marker and goes to the manager. I understand that they want to prevent folks passing fake bills, so I waited. She still rejected it.I then go to talk to a cashier in the main store to make sure I can spend this bill. She checks it and says it’s good. I shop. I go to that cashier and she doesn’t want to take it. At this point, I’ve pretty much decided to never come back to this place. It is what it is. This place is probably ok if you’re not black with a hundred dollar bill.

I really love this local grocery store. Its clean, well organized, excellent variety of prepared foods, meats, seafood and a wide variety of Asian vegetables. Along with a wide variety of tofu. There is a wide variety of frozen items as well, I havent fully explored them yet 😁. Im gently exploring spices and seasonings (no salt). The problem is SECURITY. Ive been black all my life so being followed by Security only bothers me if and when they interfere in my pleasant shopping activities. So, today no problem in the store. Parking lot top flight BIG Problem.1. I put my groceries in my trunk2. Returning cart to sanitizing station3.Top flights attempting to mug me of the cart4. Im wrestling this dude for the cart. Hes telling me I have to get a clean cart. You are not an active listener top flight...Im returning the cart! His partner power to the people soul sister with cute sun glasses was checkin her reflection and couldnt be bothered.Buying vegetables and tofu shouldnt be this hard. I dont think you understand how amazing this place is....no, just stop right there, you have no clue, well maybe you do if youre a regular but I sure as heck didnt. As a guy whos traveled all around the world, I felt like a kid who was able to see and buy all of his favorite products in one place. I was being dragged out by security (not literally but figuratively) because I couldnt believe what I was seeing! Mexican, Japanese, Korean, and all other kinds of products I have yet to find anywhere else in California. If you have a chance to check them out, go ahead and go, you wont regret it. This is just my take, do what you like, Im not your parent :)

The produce section is nice with plenty of fresh goods and there is small high-quality seafood department with live seafood. I looked online but was not satisfied with the prices for the size you get. This store was fantastic, I was like a kid in the candy store. First I went to the little building next to the store and found my Onggi, then I found the big plastic tub to clean and prepare my cabbage. Next I went to the main store and found all my ingredients INCLUDING Minari herb. This time I am making 3 different Kimchis. Co workers have requested some and my Aunt who lived in Korea, married a Korean years ago gave my Kimchi the stamp of approval. Best Covid safety grocery protocol in the bay!!!You are met outside by a security guard that sprays down your hands and provides gloves. They are strict on mask protocols. Cashiers will tell you to keep 6ft and cover your face. KP is doing what they can to stop the spread, unlike Whole Foods, who seem to be too concerned about correcting their rich customer base to tell them to put their masks on correctly. This is possibly the best grocery store in Oakland. The prices are great, the selection is great, the food is fresh... the only heads up is that this is very definitively not an American products grocery store. You’re not going to find cabs of cola or Reese’s candy. But you will get some amazing Kimchi!

Review №61

Since covid happened, they have had disposable gloves and hand sanitizer for it outside you have to put on before going in. Its nice of them to provide everyone with that.As you walk in and go to the left, youll see food sets packaged for home cooking like a stew or soups then next to it are pre-made foods like kimbap, pickled veggies that arent your normal kimchi, bugolgi, and sometimes wings. Theyre good to pick up and go. Then a bakery section is next. Its a good place for your korean foods. I come here mostly for hot pot foods all in one trip, labeled as shabu shabu beef and pork but there are a few other cuts that are also pretty thin enough for hot pot too that arent labeled for shabu shabu. Lots of beef and pork. Some veggies and herbs might be more expensive here than I could get at my local Asian grocer though. Always get at least 2 packs of enoki and some daikon and/or lotus root or similar.Plenty of instant ramen, practically a whole aisle dedicated to it, same for snacks. The raw seafood section is pretty averaged sized but they have more variety than your normal Asian grocer like tobiko and sashimi grade (unsure if true) cuts.Lots of mandu/pot stickers/gyoza. Lots of frozen seafood. Your more western things here will be at a premium obviously. Lots of fruits, outside and inside. If youve never tried cotton candy grapes, Id suggest to try it but do finish it in 2-3 days otherwise it starts to taste too sugary. Not for diabetics in large portions of course, they do have a higher sugar%.Lines are usually short but everyone has lots of stuff in their cart or basket. Then theres a shop nextdoor that will sell non-food things like a hotpot stove and the butane canisters for it as well as charcoal if youre grilling instead. Plenty of random home things in there.I really only hate the drive to here tbh. They have a guard at the front but still becareful in the parking lot, especially the side one in the evening in this time of rising crime against asians and the elderly.

During a time of a surge, Im happy to come here where as soon as you walk in, it smells like disinfectant. You cant come in without a mask and they have gloves available to you. The parking lot was full but when you walked in, people were spaced out.I was making teppanyaki and trying to get into Berkeley Bowl but they were closing. They had everything I needed here. The meat was good and where its a little expensive- it was also the correct cut I wanted which you dont necessarily get at American stores. The produce is fresh and where they didnt have everything I wanted, it is still a Korean store I went to for Japanese food so why would they.10/10 will come back!
