TLDR: POOR PRICING, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, POOR COMMUNICATION, UNWILLING TO DO SIMPLE MECHANIC JOBS.Replacing springs on a VW is not rocket science, it does not take that long and can be done at home with rented tools. This is not true for the gentlemen at Das Autohaus, Can you give me a quote on how much installing 4 springs would be? $1000. How much time would that take? Well get it done. Alrighty then. When asked why the job is $1000 for them they said if I wanted to go somewhere else I should. They couldnt even ballpark how many hours this is when they should have done this dozens of times and know exactly how long each spring takes. When asked if they can MOUNT A TIRE they said, Is it low profile? We cant do that. ITS AN OEM (stock) VW wheel and tire from the dealer that literally anyone can do, its not even a run flat. I went somewhere else OBVIOUSLY, paid a certified VW mechanic a few hundred for the spring install, got the tires mounted and weighted for $100. My advice? Save your time, dont call them and just go somewhere else, literally anywhere else.

Dave was great! I thought my car was going through a rough patch and I might be stuck in Lawrence, but he helped me out and pulled codes and tested my car completely free of charge. Seemed super knowledgeable. Bring your VW’s and Audi’s here!! It’s better than subjecting it to other auto shops that do not know how to service these cars really.

I originally went here because Id been at my official dealer trying to fix a check engine light for a week with no solutions. Went here and Dave figured it out within the day. Will definitely keep coming back. Easy to reach, answers all my questions about how things work, and reasonable costs. Also, just make having car troubles less stressful!Update: Almost 5 years later and Dave is still super helpful, and actually explains what is going on with the car. Straightforward, takes time to answer too many questions, and reliable. Thanks!

Friendly establishment. Knowledgeable. Definitely over priced. Look to purchase your own parts online. $900 job should have cost $300-400 with labor included. Do research before you agree for service. I think his customer loyalty allows him to raise prices. Wont take my car again.

We have gone to Das Autohaus for over 15 years for services, and we have bought several cars there as well. The owner, Dave Bach, is fantastic! Repairs are prompt, often the same day. Charges are reasonable and are usually close to the estimate. If there are any issues afterwards Dave will quickly address them. Dave Bach is a master mechanic and an honest person. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Quoted me $6000 for a new engine. Charged me the diagnostic fee without even looking at the car. I could have told him the timing chain broke. Former ASE tech in college just didn’t have time to do it myself. Called a place in KC, had it towed there, and they fixed it for $1500. As they say, crooked as the day is long. If I could give him negative stars I would.

Thieves. I called around and got 3 quotes on a simple brake rotor replacement. I called Das Autohaus and was told they needed to see it to quote it. I dropped the car off with the brake rotors. They called me back later to tell me my car was done and charged me 3 times what the highest quote was. I never even authorized the repair! Thieves. Do not do business with them...

Dont go here.Went to get my car looked at because my check engine light was on and while Dave was friendly and nice, he slowly upped the price throughout the process. In the beginning he gave me an estimate of 200-300. While he was working on it became 400. At the end it was 500. When I asked for clarification he vaguely said it was because of the price of the parts, which were just spark plugs. Turns out, after consulting other car repair shops, the price should have been around 250. And now the check engine light is back on, so apparently he didnt even fix the problem. Will be taking my business somewhere else.

I cant say enough good things about my experience with Das Autohaus. It is my second time taking in a vehicle and am always impressed with their efficiency, friendliness and most important...HONESTY. I took in my very old VW today for an oil change and to have a weird noise checked out. After an evaluation, they were extremely honest and helped me weigh the pros and cons of doing the necessary repairs. They even waited to do the oil change, to see if I wanted to put the money into the car after seeing the extensive repairs it needed. This NEVER happens at the dealership! They would have done the oil change and possibly a few other things and stuck me with a huge bill. This type of honesty in the car repair business is INVALUABLE. I will continue to take my vehicles to them and recommend their services to friends and family.

This place was great! I got a flat tire on my new-to-me VW and didnt have the tool to unscrew the anti-theft wheel bolts. Dave fixed my flat quickly, gave his advice on what I should do moving forward, and only charged me $15. A few weeks later I had a bunch of warning lights come on. He checked for all the possible issues, got the warning lights turned off, told me why it happened, and HE CHARGED ME NOTHING. So after getting at least two hours of labor and the peace of mind of knowing my car is okay the total cost was $15. Dave is my kind of guy. He is a no nonsense kind of guy who will not waste your time or money on anything unnecessary. If you want a super-fake overly-nice mechanic who will ask all about your family but may or may not be robbing you blind, Dave is not your guy. If you like a quick, efficient, and fair mechanic, Dave is your man.

Dave is the best guy ever. As a single female with not a lot of car experience and on a limited, fixed budget, Dave gives it to me straight. Tl;dr Paid $166 for a tune up and was given the car back without any coolant in it. I called Dave and asked if that sounded right to him and he said I only paid for an oil change and compression test... So either way youre paying $166 for an oil change and engine check or youre paying $166 for a tune up and the mechanic forgets to put coolant in it.-----Bought a Vanagon and brought it to Dave for a general inspection and tune-up. Dave said he found everything wrong with the van during his courtesy inspection and the transmission and engine needed to be rebuilt. I asked Dave to give the car a tune up and Ill decide later what to do about the major repairs.Dave calls me a little later and tells me the car isnt even worth tuning up because the engine compression is too low, says hell top off the fluids and change the oil.I come to pick the car up a couple days later and he charges me $166 for a tune up. I drive the car off and the temperature gage comes on. I stop the car and check the coolant reservoir and it was completely empty. I call Dave to ask what happened, expecting a refund, and he was full of excuses and kept telling me the van wasnt even worth it to work on.Wouldnt recommend this mechanic to anyone. Not trustworthy nor competent.

After reading a couple of the reviews here, I was a little skeptical going in to Das. A friend (whom I bought my Golf from) swore by Dave and his team though, so I went on in. I am very pleased with the service, both to my car and to myself as a customer. Dave made me feel like Id been coming there for some time, not like a new customer. He knows his business, is very concise when telling and showing you whats wrong, and is extremely fair on price. He quoted me a price for a door repair, and when it needed something we had to order instead of the kit wed hoped would fix it, he did not charge me for the time they spent taking it apart and putting it back together.Another reviewer stated he was charged simply for shop time, but Id say there must be more to that, because I wasnt charged for diagnosing my problem(s), only for the actual repairs themselves. In my opinion going to Das is equivalent to going to a dealer, without the insane price markups. Dave even went so far as to research multiple places online to get my part at the lowest possible price, not just sticking with a buddy supplier. This shop reminds me of how places used to do business...they care about the vehicles they work on and want them in the best shape, while always keeping the customers best interests and abilities in mind. Thanks Dave and team!

Do not take your car here! Like others have said, Dave is rude and short! My AC went out 3 months ago and I brought it here. I was charged over $300 for parts and labor and the switch went out again this week. I was out of town so I took it to a different shop and they said that it wasnt a VW switch on my car and that it must have been one that Dave had laying around the shop. It had shorted out. I got a new VW switch and was charged $200 including labor. Ive asked around Lawrence and a few places have said that they used to recommend Das Autohaus, but dont any more because of so many complaints. Now I know why.
