I met with Don to have some repair work done on my Starfire III. I left the guitar with him on August 23, and agreed to the two month turn-around that he indicated was needed as he was severely backed-up.I contacted Don via text on October 15 just to check the status of the work. His reply was simply, Starting on it next week.I initiated contact once again on November 4 and was told Im starting on it tomorrow.As a result, I picked up my guitar that day and decided to go elsewhere.So, why three stars... I have no doubt that Don is a very capable luthier. The problems are simply centered around the lack of communication on his part regarding progress, or lack thereof.I was told two months. At the two month mark, I was told next week. Nearly three weeks after that I was told tomorrow. As a new customer, how am I supposed to feel? When I picked up the guitar he stated, I told you it would be several months. The truth is he said two months.Communication is everything. This is especially true when one is dealing with a new client. I have entrusted this person with an instrument that has been a part of my life for nearly three decades. An other reviewer mentioned the condition of his shop. Trust me, I had reservations when I saw the condition. I wondered how he could complete any work in that space, but after talking with him I felt confident that he could do good work.A simple text stating, hey, this is taking a bit longer than expected..., or hey, just wanted to update you on the status of your guitar. Instead, nothing... absolutely nothing. When I initiated an update, it felt as if he was just giving me a timeframe to placate me in some way. I was growing increasingly uneasy about my decision to leave the guitar in his hands, and I had to go retrieve it.My only advice to Don would be to improve communication with the client. Also, if a job is going to be longer than anticipated that information should be passed along ASAP.

I heard about Don through a mutual friend when I was looking for someone to help me get an old 12 string set up, and I’m so glad that I did! At first I was a little nervous about going to a stranger’s house so I brought a friend, but as soon as I met Don I knew there was nothing to worry about. He has his own workshop all set up in his garage, and he is such a cool guy to talk to. He was quick and thorough, and he explained to me every step of the process because I wanted to learn more about caring for my guitar. I had no idea there was so much that went into it! I will definitely be going to him if I have any other guitar needs.

Don Gallop was recommended to me to fix my 1920s Martin guitar by a great friend and professional musician, Chris Hermes. He said Don repaired instruments for the pros here in Las Vegas.This guitar was purchased by my husbands father back in the 1920s and it is very precious. It had cracks in the front and back, the bridge had lifted, the neck needed work, and there was other repair needed.This guitar lived in a closet in our office probably since we 1st moved here to Las Vegas which was in 1991. It didnt even have a case.When I picked up the guitar a couple of days ago I was thrilled. It was beautiful. And you could see that the guitar had been loved and played and restored to keep its value. Don was careful not todetract from the natural mellowing of a 100 year guitar.This guitar sings. Think attire feels happy to be played and loved. And she even got a beautiful Martin cushy case to live in. Thank you Don.

I had an electrical issue with my bass guitar. It was fixed so fast and now I can enjoy my new instrument. Dont take any stringed instruments to a chain store, bring it here. He can fix or build anything needed.

I brought my 2004 Martin OM 18 VLJ to Don because of previous luthier had done a set up that was much too low for my style of playing resulting in a lot of buzzing.Don diagnosed the problem including doming of the top and recommended putting in a guitar doctor brace system. This was no simple task as I had a B band pick up also installed at the bridge and he had to move that around before drilling to install the guitar doctor. On a sidenote he had Spotify on the Bruce Cockburn page and just as he started drilling into the bridge they played this atonal rather bizarre and unnerving bit of music, but as Shakespeare said all‘s well that ends well and after a bit of modification of the guitar doctor itself to minimize contact area Don had it installed and presto no more Doming of the top.Don also used bone to increase the height of the nut and made a new saddle as well as crowding the frets and then smoothing them. He also filed and sanded the bridge area where the little pearl dot to cover the hole for the guitar doctor to where it’s flush and looks like the guitar came that way from Martin.I know my guitar will need a fret job and I will be bringing it to him this summer to have that done. I cannot recommend this guy enough! Very very professional and as nice as the day is long not to mention very reasonable in his charges.

Don’s a good guy with good talent. He set up my Taylor 814ce which plays even more beautifully now than it did new. He also leveled the frets, cleaned out the pots and switch, and setup my ‘94 MIJ strat. That guitar also plays beautifully again.He did a neck reset on my 1971 Lyle classical, installed a new saddle, replaced a broken tuner key, and installed a bridge-doctor. The action is now amazing, though a bit buzzy, which he is fixing at the nut.His pricing is better than the music stores. I was hesitant at first but he’s a pro, who obviously cares about the instruments he services.I think I’ll bring my new G&L ASAT blues boy to him next.

Don did a really good job of setting up my Martin GPCX2AE Macassar. I was having buzzing sound on the 12th & 13th fret. Right away he knew what was the issue. He had to make adjustment on the trust rod and the bridge nut. It took him 30 minutes for the setup and now my guitar is sounding great. I highly recommend Don and will go to him for future setups or repairs. Thanks Don.

Today was a great day! called on a whim after googling Don and within an hour my setup and his suggested pickup adjustment on my Les Paul and it was done! I have a new Ibanez AZ that struggled to stay in tune and needed a guitar intonation performed. After reaching out to Don he worked to get me in the same day. Shortly after arriving Don realized this guitar was not perfectly at scale and would need some bridge work. Don explained and showed me what work was needed to be done and then went to making the adjustments. All the work was done right then and the guitar intonation made the guitar play smoother with sound great. I am confident that other guitar techs would not have spent the time making the proper adjustments to reach perfect intonation. Going forward Don will be the only one that works on my guitar collection.

Ive used him for set ups, some pickup rewiring and fretboard maintenance. Each time his work has been excellent with the guitar coming back feeling brand new. Ive been scouring the town for a good luthier and I came across Don and his shop. I had an Takamine G series guitar to have adjusted and taken cared for which he did, effortlessly. He asked me what how I wanted the guitar to play and feel and he got it to where I wanted it to be.There is no amount of reading and youtube-watching that can surpass experience, craftsmanship, and love that Don can offer.The funny part is the price. Don does not overcharge for his work because he loves doing it.Hats off to this artist.*on the pictures, the Emerald Green guitar one is a custom-built LP body that Don did as an example. He put in 8 coats of clear on it. 8! That just goes to show how much he loves doing what he does by not taking compromises and shortcuts. Thats why his work is amazing.

I have had the pleasure of working with Don on a number of projects over the last 10 years and each one of them has turned into a treasure that I could never part with. The first project was a Gibson acoustic that needed so much help that I felt lost at first. Don stepped me through the options for repairs and customization and I ended up with a real player that sounds pure and looks just right. Next it was time to tackle a 70s Tele that had been well worn and lacked a clear direction. We took this Tele and turned it into a real special custom Tele with a new neck, custom wide range humbucker, and some volume/tone/phasing/splitting controls to make all kinds of great tones come out of it. Thanks Don...I am looking forward to the next project.

Don is not only a superior luthier and an excellent electronics tech, hes an all around great guy. I have taken two guitars to him for different repairs (one electric guitar with an electronic issue, one very old acoustic guitar with a cracked neck and warped top), and couldnt be more pleased. He set up my acoustic guitar after repairing it and it sounds better than when I bought it new. Ive seen many other projects hes been handed, from warped necks to damaged bodies, and Don is truly a gifted artist. His care and expertise means that you ll get more than your moneys worth if you need his help, and it doesnt cost a thing to get his considered opinion. Plus, hes very, very reasonable (dont tell him, tho, I might need some other repairs done someday). If your instrument is broken or just in need of a professional setup, Don is the guy to call. Don Gallop is an incredible craftsman. Years ago he built an amp for me that compares and surpasses many top of the line amplifiers. A friend of mine referenced it to a Dumble. Its quiet when you need quiet, and every bit of a monster. He also works on my guitars, pedal board ,etc. Hes now building guitars and like his amps, awesome. I played it 2 nights ago. Give him a call, stop by, youll get an education from one of the most enthusiastic tone masters available in the Las Vegas area. Also ,he is the most reasonably priced guy around town.

Im very very pleased with the work performed by High End Guitar.Don transformed my Les Paul into something really incredible. He added phased switching and push pull coil taps. Night and day. The result is unbelievable tone in all the switching combinations. If you use 2 pickups at the same time, you gotta let Don add a phase switch. Omg!Also what he did with the coil tapping is wonderful sounding. The guitar was already coil tapped but the way Don did it makes the previous way seem lifeless and blah.

Don does excellent repair work and is really easy to work with. I own a mid-80s G&L SB-1 that Ive played and loved for many years. It is my favorite bass and from seeing decades of action, it was in serious need of a re-fret and set up. I have to admit, I was reluctant to trust anyone to work on it. But I read up on a few luthiers in LV and decided to contact Don. After meeting him and talking I was very comfortable with his skills and abilities. Ive had my bass back for a few weeks now and have played it everyday. Much to my amazement it has never played better - which is really saying something! Don also worked around my travels in/out of town which made my life a lot easier and saved me untold hassle. He is trustworthy, does great work quickly, and at very reasonable rates. Im not sure what else you could ask for. I highly recommend contacting Don for any work that your favorite instrument needs. Youll be glad you did!

Don is the man!!! I brought in my 1979 Marshall JMP for new power tubes and left with a re-birthed monster of an amp. After replacing the capacitors and power tubes, we decided to install a treble cap to bring out more highs. Rather than just one capacitor, he decided to give me an option of 5 different caps and installed a 6 position switch to choose between. Tone options for days!! This master luthier also refretted my Les Paul, installed and wrapped a new tailpiece. My rig has never felt better!!!! Highly highly recommended for all your tube amp and guitar needs.
