We were having problems with a pool store we were dealing with, so we went to the Knoxville location of The Backyard Place. Dillon, the general manager was very quick to find a solution for us. Everyone in the store was amazingly friendly. We will definitely be returning for all of our pool needs. A+

Great experience during this crazy time! The entire staff has been wonderful! From sales to delivery to service. They have been excellent. Bought a Hot Tub and it was finally installed a week ago, They kept me up to date on when it was to be expected and told me when it was delayed. These days are tough getting things and they kept me up to date. Installation was great, professional and easy. Service has been remarkable. They have answered all of my novice questions and concerns quickly and were extremely helpful. Great group at the Great Backyard!

I purchased a Four Wind Grand Bahama Spa hot tub for $8,538.93 from this company in April of 2021 and all the head rests which were made out of rubber were literally falling off. See pictures. Lori Meadows and her team told me this was my fault. I just want everyone to know what type of business this is and how rude they are. After spending so much money it is a real shame to not only receive such an inferior product but to also be treated this way. Lori and her team told me it was my fault. They are unprofessional and have no integrity. WARNING DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. More to come. John

We are 1st time pool owners. The staff here is very friendly AND knowledgeable. Ashley helped answer everything about which pool we wanted to purchase. Sawyer plus other staff are always helpful answering my questions. They will also test your pool water whenever you want.If youre thinking about becoming pool owners, I recommend going to talk with them. Dont worry about being pushed into buying one; you wont be.

Sawyer and Bree have been monumental with my crazy pool needs this summer. We have had phosphate issues for the first time and I have had to visit the store at least once a week. These guys have worked with me all along on trying to figure out our issue!! They have made my frustrated trips in a very pleasureable experience and actually looked forward to seeing them. So a huge shout out the these 2 team members for really stepping up to the plate!!!

BUYER BEWARE if you buy a pool from them be prepared to wait a long time if you get it at all. We purchased an above ground pool from them at the first of April and were told we would be looking at Mid May as the installation date. By The end of May we had not heard a word from them and called to check on the progress. We were then told we were in line to call them back in 10 days if we had heard anything. Two more times we called back and were given the same answer both times. We were told the installer has our paperwork and we would hear from them in 10 days. We were told this the next two times we called. So by the end of June still nothing. So I sent them an email wanting some kind of explanation. Then I was told the installer would call us that night to set things up. Another week goes by and still nothing. I understand things happen but a little communication about what was going on would have been appreciated. We finally cancelled the whole thing and still was not given any kind of explanation they just said ok we will take care of it. I have heard from several other sources that they were done the same way. I never write reviews but I just want people to be aware of what they are signing up for with them and not waste practically a whole summer waiting.

10/10 highly recommend NEVER using this company. I spent $8500 on an above ground swimming pool. Was told it would be installed in May, June comes around and I had to start pestering Bill, the salesman who sold me the pool, on when the pool would be installed. Finally, Wes the installer gets in touch with me on June 15th, I send him a picture of the area I want to place the pool he says “Good deal that shouldn’t be any trouble thank you” next morning he’s here, he automatically didn’t want to put it where I wanted cause of the slope insisted on putting it 100-150 foot away from the house because it’s flat, one of those spots were even in my neighbors yard. Wes ended up not leveling my yard due to slate rock so we had them drop the pool off and asked if we had someone level it if they’d come back and set the pool up. He said yes. We paid $2000 to have it leveled and 6 tons of red clay dirt laid down like WES suggested. 20 days later, he never showed on the day he was supposed to set up the pool. When I got back in touch with Bill, he reached out to Wes and Tim, who works for Wes reached out to me. Somehow there was some sort of miscommunication and Tim was told I had 6 tons of sand waiting on them, which was false. So we scramble on a Friday to get 4 tons of sand delivered like Tim suggested and even had someone set up for Saturday to come put the sand in the middle of the level lot like we were told we had to do JUST FOR THEM TO BACK OUT. We leveled the property, bought and delivered the sand, would be moving the sand and would STILL have to pay the original $1250 which was supposed to include leveling, sand, and pool set up, just for them to set the pool up. Bill was great even when him and I had a miscommunication but this company DEFINITELY needs to find other subcontractors to set up their pools.

After getting our pool, we attended pool school with Sawyer to learn about how to care for and maintain our pool. Very happy. The size I wanted was on back order, so I opted for the 27. So glad we did. Perfect size. They had Renos to come out and smooth ground and the next day twovery nice and knowledgeable men were at my house to assemble the pool and start water. Sawyer ,the pool instructor was so good at his job, I named my vacumn after him.

My wife and I placed an order for a hot tub in August of 2020. We were told there would be a wait and our hot tub would begin production in February, 2021, 6 months later. I realize that Covid19 has slowed production throughout the nation, but here we are 9 months later and still nothing. The staff has not reached out to us since we went into the store. In February we called and they said 4-6 weeks. 4-6 weeks went by and crickets....so we called again and we were told 4-6 weeks. So, here we are, 9 months after walking into the store and nobody has called, no updates, nothing from this business. My wife called again today and after being given the run around on the phone, she was passed off to someone named Dillon. Dillon told her 4-6 weeks again, and we were free to cancel it if wed like.We are now looking at a wait time of 10 1/2 months. I feel that the customer service at this business is in dire need of improvement. If they cannot provide us with the hot tub we ordered 9 months ago at the agreed upon price, we should be given another option, not strung along for what is now getting closer and closer to a full year.

We dealt with Bill and are glad we did. The product was of high quality. Bill had a crew he suggested to prepare for and to install the pool. The crew did wonderfully. With COVID hitting the supply chain, Bill did an excellent job communicating when he needed to. Whenever we had questions his responses were virtually immediate. After the installation, Sawyer had a one on one training session with me, to assure I understood how to properly prepare the pool for the summer. The installation of the pool took three days, mainly due to having to wait for the pool to fill with water. If you are considering a pool, don’t sell yourself short. Call the guy with the life experience of owning what you are buying. Call Bill.

At around December time this becomes the Christmas decorations destination. Huge selection of prelit trees, decorations, Nativity setups, candles, garlands and so on.Mostly reasonable prices too.This is the place we visit on December at least once.

Terrible customer service, lies and long waiting period. Bought the pool on 5/5/17 being told it would be a couple weeks to install with exceptions for rain.(to be expected). I was told we would receive a call from the installer and after 2 weeks no contact I called the pool place back. He told me they were having delays due to rain and someone would get back with me. Another week goes by and I finally get a call(friday 26th) they said be home in 2hrs and we can be there. I left work and waited. 3hrs later I got a call that the back hoe had a bad track and they could not come out. Being memorial weekend they probably couldnt get it fixed but they would still come out and would call the night before. No call until Monday morning (Memorial day) and they said they were on the way. When they arrived they told me they needed half the money up front before they started. It was supposedly in the contract (it was not mentioned). I gave them a check for half so they would just get the job done. They were telling me they would be back this week and I would be swimming by Saturday(3rd of June). Saturday morning came and went. I called the pool place and was told the installer had some health issues and he must have gotten behind. The 6th I called the installers myself and they told me they needed to check on it. The 7th I got a call from them that said my pool had just gotten to the warehouse for them to pick up and they will drop it off at my house the next day. The next day I got a call that they were behind and it would be Friday the 9th. Friday NO pool! I called the pool place and told him I wanted to cancel I was tired of all the lies and running around. He assured me that he had never lied to me and that the pool had been in the warehouse from the time I bought the pool!!! I had already paid half on the install so I agreed to give him a couple days more. He called me back and said give him until Wednesday he would make sure it got done. They dropped the pool off at the beginning of the next week and started install on Wednesday. I already had a pool there before that we had removed same size and location. They did not need any heavy equipment to do the pool. I work nights so when I got home that morning I had to wait until they got there to start the ground work. They told me a couple hrs to get that ready and they would start building the pool. I stayed up and at 4:30 that evening he said it was lightning and they would finish in the morning. They had the sand down and the ring base at this point. The next morning I told them I could not stay up another day when they got done let me know. He called to tell me the pool was filling up and he would be back that night to cut the holes in it(he did). The next morning they came back because they had left their trailer and needed paid. All the garbage from the install including lunch was left in the yard for us to remove(while picking up a box that was left the pool warranty information fell out that said we had 30days from purchase date to register pool! guess we missed that window). They said that was also in this contract that I never saw .They also told me they had the proof the pool place sold me a pool that wasnt in stock. One if not both were lying to me the whole time. My opinion NEVER AGAIN!!! The telescoping pole was not there but you have to go back to them to get the chemicals so the bf picked it up and the cover wasnt there I guess thats something we can get in September. I understand things happen and jobs get behind but constantly covering yourself with one story after another is not good business! 5/5/17- 6/16/17

As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted by the person at the counter. As we were looking at the hot tubs Bill comes to see us. As we were looking we seen that all the tubs were sold. Bill offered to call the other stores and see if there were any available that we were looking at. As the times we are in there were not any available. He went above and beyond to help us get a tub. He was able to work out something to get us in a tub and delivered within a week. He knew we wanted it in ASAP. He also knew it was a hard place that we wanted the hot tub put and he said don’t worry my crew will make sure to get it done! We are so happy with The Backyard Place! The entire experience has been great!!

I cant say better things about this place....top notch customer service and we had no issues with them putting in our new pool...which we LOVE...every time we enter the front door we feel so welcomed and that makes a big difference...we visited several other pool places and had terrible customer service and one was actually cheaper but its not worth it when people treat you awful...this place is highly recommend!!!

As many of the reviews state, they are very attentive and helpful during the buying process. Sadly, the service ends there. If you need any assistance after the purchase, GOOD LUCK. They could care less about you after they have made the sale. The people who answer the calls are clueless and get rude when asked why they don’t have any answers. The parts department does not answer or return messages. Even the male manager became rude when I detailed the poor “service” I was experiencing. Save yourself the headache down the road, purchase from a more reputable business.

I purchased a hot tub from The Great Back Yard Place. Other Hot Tub sales people told me it could not be installed in the location that I chose , they came out and did a site check and said it cannot be installed. I then after almost giving up contacted The Great Back Yard Place . All from the sales people, the service people, to the installers, I thank them for their professionalism, and knowledge of their products. If not for them I would have given up on purchasing a hot tub. The installation crew arrived and saw that it was going to be a challenge but never gave up. Does not even deserve 1 star , iam reposting this after I was told by the Gm Ken Paxton that if i removed the bad review they would insure the contractor would get the repairs and and poor quality work done on our inground pool in a timely manner well this started at the end of July 2017 so almost a year ago so I would say not a timely manner !! The contractor keeps giving excuses or no call back at all so I would say the reason is there is a 1 yr warranty on work and we signed the contract in April 2017 .the great backyard place in Knoxville stated they would stand responsible for getting the repairs done in a timely manner, but will not have the repairs done by another contractor unless I pay for them ,why would I pay for repairs that I paid in full to be done the first time , they will not stand responsible for there contractors!! Not my contractor .these people are under agreement verbal or contractual to build pools for the great backyard place . So the great backyard place should be held accountable for these contractors actions. And I intend fully to do that very thing !! I have reached out to Don Dare at channel 6 and he has contacted us about doing a story about companies and there use of bad contractors.

I have never written a negative review. But we are so disheartened with the service we have received, we felt others needed to know.We bought a round inground pool from this business about nine years ago, before the name change. This pool requires a liner. We have thoroughly enjoyed it. Our experience was a positive one.The liner started leaking in the spring. After ordering the new liner in April, Bill came and installed it on May 30. Soon after we filled it with water, the new liner started to leak. We continued to add water, to keep it at the skimmer level, so our grandchildren could enjoy it, as it would be a while before a second liner could be installed.We paid over $1200 for the installation/liner, of which $750 was for the installation.On June 18, Bill returned to install the 2nd liner. This liner also had a faulty seam, and began to leak, causing another huge loss of water. We patched it, and continued to add water, once again, so the grandchildren could swim.Last year, our water bills in June and July were$39 and $53. This year, our bill was $233 in June, and $175 in July. Two complete fills, plus adding water to keep it at skimmer level with each liner. We understood that the one fill up was our responsibility. I believe the pool holds 13,000 gallons.Once again, we contacted Bill, and let him know. He said it may take a while, but he would try to get another liner from another company. The pool continued to leak, and we lost all of the water.On July 7, Bill sent my husband a text, stating that he had found another liner, and that it should be there on Thursday, July 9. We have not seen or heard from Bill since the text on July 7.Our pool is empty, so our grandchildren have not been able to swim for three weeks. Nor could they swim after completely emptying the water two times, getting it dry for them to come and reinstall the two new liners.We were told when they installed the second liner on June 18 that they would send us $100 to help offset some of the water cost. We have not received anythingfrom them. We are at our wit’s end. Summer will be over, and we will have lost so much pool time with our family.

My wife and I visited the store today for the first time. We are in the process of receiving bids for an in ground pool and wanted to discuss getting an estimate from The Great Backyard. As soon as we walked into the store we were greeted and asked how they could help us. We informed them of our desire to talk to someone about in ground pools and getting a quote. We were told they were “booked through the end of the year and won’t even give information out about it.” That was actually the exact verbiage. We were shocked as others that have given us estimates are booked until next July but still wanted our business. I have never been dismissed so quickly in my life, especially when we essentially walked into the store and offered 75k plus in business.I’d like to thank the individual who greeted us and dismissed us - You just saved us from what we can only imagine would be a terrible experience for years to come!

We purchased a spa from great backyard place, service was excellent at beginning. 3 yrs later we are having issues with our spa shell looks like its cracking, have waited 2 almost 3mths for a response from artesian or John from backyard place. Me and my wife bought an Artesian spas platinum elite. Not a cheap spa. we have had several minor issues, and I mean minor, but the great backyard has offered literally zero effort to service or maintain our spa. We have called and schedule service on several occasions, and they never even showed or called. Just straight up no show. i do not recommend a purchase from a company that will not support a product that they sell. the spa itself is a great spa, but the service has been zero. nothing.

I bought a Christmas tree four years ago from the Great Backyard. We had an issue with the lights when we put the tree up this year. I called in and talked to Dillon and he told me to bring it in. Got a tree last year took back twice last year, once after Christmas, worked for an hour this year and went off. They have stopped returning my calls so I am stuck with a tree that one section will not work. UPDATE: They called me back and Dylan said he called every time, did not call back left several messages. He talked to me awful, and I was already upset. Like I said bad customer service. They will fix tree or give me a $500 credit, have you seen what trees cost there? I went online and looked...........already had in there twice and they “fixed” it.And I was told that if I did not remove review that they would not do a thing about this matter!UPDATE: Called the main office and was told someone would be calling me and I still have not received a call from anyone and Christmas is over. So I still have a tree that has never worked.

I have found that customer service after the sell has been minimal. Its took over 2 months for spa chemicals and probably that for parts. I can understand why their rating is less than 4. Repeated inquiries, assuring me that they have my name and number and will call when the product comes in; to, we dont have your name on the list sweetie. Poor organization and lack customer service skills.

Pleased from sales through excavation and installation. Bill was very patient with all of our questions through the sales process. Renos bobcat skills left a perfect circle and moved the excess dirt exactly where we asked. Their install team stayed late to finish after a storm interrupted their progress.Our initial water test and instructions were a little overwhelming. However, the staff got us setup with our chemicals and written instructions to take home. Everyone assured us to call or stop in if we had more questions.

Purchased a pool last year and during the install we had an issue. Service manager and General Manager work with us until it was right and we were satisfied. Staff working with the Water Analysis and chemicals explained everything very well and was very helpful.

This is our favorite place for pool supplies and chemicals! We drive from Kodak to get our water tested and to get all our supplies. Everyone is very professional and friendly. We bought our pool here and have been very pleased throughout the years with the service we have received. Even though it’s a little far to drive we will continue to buy everything for our pool here.

I got a hot tub cover and it cracked on the top within a week. I have spent almost a year trying to get a replacement and still dont have a replacement. Every month I call and nobody knows whats going on and they have never, not once, called me back. Bar none, the worst service I have ever had with a business.

I could not be any happier with our pool install. After having a horrible experience in the past we were hesitant about getting another pool at our new home. Bill was excellent to work with and the men who came to install the pool did an immaculate job! Our yard was left looking beautiful, the pool is beautiful, just an outstanding job. Started pool February 1, 2020. We knew there would be delays due to weather. They promised it would be ready by Memorial weekend. We have called Bill Johnson. He will not call you back. Contractor always says concrete people are unavailable. Excuses, Excuses Excuses They have 4 days before our vacation starts. We have tried everything else, maybe this will help.

Called Saturday and asked for the Owner or at least a manager call me back....this is Tuesday and I have heard nothing. Boy they sure are attentive when you are a potential customer but after they get your money, theu wont even call you back. Do yourself a favor and find a reputable company and not this one.

The customer service at The Great Backyard Place has been wonderful. The manager of the service department, John, has been amazing to deal with. We have had some frustrations with our pool liner, but each time we have called/emailed, John has gone above and beyond to stand behind their products and make sure the problem is fixed.

Im writing this review for my Dad. He purchased the Grey Avalon Above Ground Pool 24x52 Round Pool at the beginning of May. He was told hed have the pool up and running before Memorial Day, guaranteed. The sales guy didnt even have to do any work. Id already researched and picked out everything that he wanted. All we did was call the guy to make sure he was there and show up to have my Dad sign the paperwork. He kept asking when, he kept promising itll be up and running by Memorial Day...well...it wasnt. It was assembled and filing up with water on June 12th. When the parts were delivered, the boxes were busted open and some of the parts and boxes had rust on them. Before delivery, my Dad would call the guy and ask when it was going to be there and he was told there are people whod love to be where youre at on the list and that they were waiting on parts...kind of hard for rust to be on things that are new/being ordered. Dont buy from this place...you can do better at other places...much better and friendlier service.

We bought a big aboveground pool here about 8 years ago. Had a very good experience, except installation which they contracted out but helped with after the fact. I have been in for several different things over the years and always find them the best. Great customer service and know what you need the first time!

They sold us an Opera 30 pool. Bill was a nice salesman. From the install to current it is all downhill! Communication is AWFULL!! The guy that did the bobcat work showed up started digging and we never knew they were coming that day nor did we know they were doing the install the day that happened while we were not home! The installers left all their trash in our yard for us to clean up, they tried over charging us by $275. (Get receipts and keep up with what you are paying out, which Im glad we did). We scheduled a service call for a leak. Jon called me a liar stating that he never told me a time!. The second service the gentleman showed up on time. It doesnt leak around the skimmer any more but still around the pipes from the skimmer. Every time I vacuum I loose to much pressure, All to find out they installed the wrong size pump! Id say IMPROVE YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE! YOU ARE TAKING PEOPLES MONEY BUT NOT DOING WHAT IS RIGHT!!!!

Grossly over estimated install by 2 months to make the sale. Installed wrong pool and liner. Only offered to replace pool liner when we wanted. No compensation for water usage or their mistakes. If you deal with them, beware. And get everything in writing. Inspect the items before you fill anything.
