This was my first time visiting Open Chord. My brother hosted the blues jam for Friday night! It was absolutely amazing! I took my 4 year old with me and I think he had more fun than I did. Food was good, drinks were great! Highly recommend!

Great venue & food! I saw a comedian, not music, but the staff, energy, and atmosphere were very good. The Graceland steak burger with bacon, peanut butter, & fried plantains that I had was surprisingly addictive…I really like fries but found myself ignoring them to devour the burger. I sat at the bar where the the bartender was attentive. The chef and owner were also friendly. The one thing that I think should be changed is that the act I saw, Robin Williams impressionist, was described as an “all ages” act on Open Chord’s website - so those details might need to be vetted better.

A nice little hole in the wall for live music. The stage is front and center for all to see. Theres always a variety of music featuring local artists. The owner is on-site and a musician as well. They also have an open mic night.

Really awesome experience here as I get started with guitar. I’ve found some shops’ staff to be snotty or elitist about being new to an instrument and this was not the case at Open Chord at all. They really patiently answered my questions and didn’t make me feel dumb about the basics. I got exactly what I needed and everyone was super helpful. Great job, y’all. I’ll definitely be back.

I stopped in to check out the music store. Very nice, with pro quality to beginner equipment (stringed instruments and amps). Great bonus... This is a live music venue, open stage with a house band on Wednesdays, good atmosphere, the house band was knocking off a Stevie Ray Vaughn song, sounded good!

Last night. 3 hour Blues Jam. No cover charge. Older crowd. 3 bands. Each band was experienced, pro level. Not a bad seat, there. Intimate club. I will go here, often, when I am in town. Inn Town suites is so close, I could easily walk to the club. And, I had Polio. I play Bass, and drums, and all the musicians worked well, together. Great drink prices. My date was new to live jams. So I could point out the performance technicals, on stage. I am Happy, I found this place.

We stopped here for a couple drinks before doing a Breakout Game and we had a very nice experience and will for sure be back. Jeff our bartender was very nice and knowledgeable and helpful making sure our drinks were full. We came during happy hour which Im not sure when it starts but we got here at 4:40 and I think it goes to 7? They had a really nice selection on Draft beer and it was overall a nice atmosphere. This may become a new regular stop for us in Knoxville

I fell in love with this place tonight. The shows were so personal. You really get to know your favorite band or get to discover a really awesome local band. The atmosphere is really laid-back and all of the staff are cool. I enjoyed myself a lot. If your band is playing there you will not be disappointed. It is small but big, enough at the same time. The drinks were really good and the food was ok. The restrooms was super clean and smells pretty good. Overall is a really cool place to watch live shows.

Review №64

Service is absolutely horrible. They dont even try to be friendly or apologetic about the fact that theyve sold a few hundred tickets for a show, its standing room only, and you must order all drinks & food from the bar where there are 3 bartenders. No servers. Only 3 bartenders. 40 people continuously herded around the L shaped bar just hoping one of the 3 will give you an opportunity to ask for food, or a drink, or your check sometime before the show is over. Dumb.

Just wanted to chime in here about my experience with Open Chord. Bought a Suhr classic T today. Never thought Id own one, but thanks to Coi and Jim, I was able to get one. Those guys are superb. Went out of their way to help me in every area. Worked with my situation, and even called the owner who was cool to help me out as well. Guitar is perfect. I will forever be grateful for their help. If youre looking for a new guitar, go to OC.

I bought my mandolin from Open Chord. This was the first musical instrument I had ever purchased and I have to say the whole experience was fantastic. First of all, the price I paid for The Loar mandolin was more than fair, including the accessories I needed. A couple of weeks after I had purchased it, I realized one of the frets was higher than the others, which caused a buzzing on certain notes. Randy, Sam and Josh went overboard to make sure the problem was corrected. In fact, they made a special trip out to a distributor warehouse to pick up a replacement so that I could have a new mandolin before I left on a trip. That is definitely above board service!

The Open Chord is a running joke to most of Knoxville. Ive been there quite a few times Whoever does their booking has NO eye for talent. One of the nicer venues in town and they only draw around 20 people a show. Half of that are the musicians playing and their girlfriends. I went to a show there a few days ago that was sponsored by 94.3. There were MAYBE 25 people there. Most of them were staff who came and went as they pleased (ie .didnt pay for admittance.) Youre telling me one of the nicer (looking) venues in town cant draw a crowd when theyre getting free advertising from the biggest radio station in Knoxville? The worst part is, they dont even seem to realize they have a problem. Theyre all over Facebook smiling about having another successful show when an average of 5 people like their status when they posts. It just sad...
