A staple of city market. Nice seasonal plants, seeds, yard items, coffee, candies. Somewhat old time atmosphere and simple functional decor. Nice helpful staff, but not overbearing nor fake nice. Hope they continue to stay in business a long time. Worth your visit and your business.

We always get spices there, my Parents were with me and they are 87 and 94 years young. Dad always planted a garden and has gotten seeds there, they know longer drive so I bring them. They love to look around to see what new.

My favorite place!! I love all the herbs, spices and teas! I get my beautiful zinnia seeds there every spring. And thats my go-to place to get 50 lb bags of black oil sunflower seed and safflower seed for the birds! Plus they have so many great gift ideas there.

A fantastic place for anyone who has either a passing interest in plants, spices and other outdoor passions or works professionally outdoors. Something for everybody in this historic neighborhood, one the oldest parts of Kansas City near the Missouri River. Plan to spend at least 45 minutes of not longer. Plenty to get distracted by in a good way!!!

A very vintage look well in keeping with the area, the store smells of the various spices, coffees, etc. I was quickly helped by a staff member when choosing coffee and was encouraged to smell the different bean flavors. Their selection of spices, seeds, gardening tools and implements,and coffees was breath-taking. I enjoyed my first visit!

I went into Planters with moderate expectations, but was completely blown away. First, the service was impeccable. I asked a lot of questions about seeds and planting for the upcoming year and I never felt as though they were put out by my questions. Knowledgeable staff guided and directed me for my situation. And the variety - wow. Be warned, there are some seed varieties that may not be available right now, but they make sure to let you know beforehand. They also have a LOT of varieties of spices in bulk. I did not expect that and now Im excited to return to get some bull spices that we are missing!

I know of no better place in Kansas City too buy Spice. Also a fun place to walk around, the smells, the aroma are great.

Great store for seeds, hardware, planters, soil, etc. During the late summer, seeds are on sale so stock up for next year. The staff were very friendly and helpful in their recommendations. One pleasant surprise: a wide selection of professional grade food flavorings. If youre looking for spices, I would suggest going to the Arabic spice shops in River Market instead.

This place is an experience. Its great for the serious gardener but fascinating for those new to digging in the dirt. The rough wooden floors and the wooden bins of bulk seed behind the counter are a step back in time. They also have seed in small packets for those who dont want quite the quantity. If you need it for your garden they have it. Their plant selection is also great. Love to buy my herb garden plants here. From repellants for deer and other garden pests, fertilizer, tools, flower pots and planters and yard art. The inventory is huge. Just the place to go fir a gift for someones kitchen or patio. Almost failed to mention their huge selection of bulk spices. Their staff is quite knowledgeable and helpful. Planters us a must place to visit when you are in the River Market.

I love Planters for a hundred different reasons. I dont use lawn and garden chemicals so I steer clear of those, but they have lots of good stuff like organic potting soil from Fox Farm.

If you need to grow it, theyve got it. I but my cry slices here by the bulk, year round. Knowledge of all my needs. Ive loved this place since I was a child.

The storefront in the historic River Market is reminiscent of the general stores of days gone by. They serve up an extensive selection of spices and seasonings. I buy our taco seasoning, french onion soup base, buttermilk ranch dressing seasoning, as well as various others here monthly. The aroma of spices is noticeable from the moment you walk in the front door. Love shopping local at this Kansas City landmark!

I love this place! I come here every year and spend a lot of money. However, I am very disheartened to see the owner of the store wearing his mask in properly. There is no excuse for wearing your mask under your nose at this point in the pandemic.

If it grows or is green this is the place to go to get help. Folks know what they are talking about, give quick service and have what you need.

This is one of the best places in Kansas City to get spices, or gardening, equipment. Their spices are always fresh, and well-priced. Everyone is always very willing to help and very friendly. I drive from all the way across town just to go here.

It’s an awesome place. My grandmother turned me on to that place years ago and it has never disappointed. Especially now with the pandemic it’s hard to find canning spices but Planters definitely had them and they were kept in safe containers. The staff is always courteous and friendly, very helpful!!

Definitely has everything you would need if you are a serious gardener, or even if you are just starting out. The people who work there arent exactly the friendliest, but whatever.

In an area of Kansas City that isnt always taking coronavirus precautions seriously, its nice to see that some stores are doing their due diligence. The number of patrons at one time is strictly monitored, and I have never seen an employees face since this whole thing started.Spices and seasonings of all types are available in bulk bags, including some pretty good spice mixes (try the Apple Pie Spice mix, or the Cajun BBQ). aside from the edible offerings, planters also offers a variety of birdseed, and outdoor gardening equipment and feeders for sale year-round.Plus, and theres no real way to quantify this... the store just smells good. Even if youre not planning on buying anything, oftentimes just a walk inside is enough to convince you to buy something, just so you can take some of that good smell home with you. Highly recommended for any new visitors to the Kansas City area.

I LOVE this store. The teas, spices, and coffee are all amazing. The spaghetti seasoning that they sell is a must try. Also, their prices are so much better than the super market. I don’t buy seasoning or spices anywhere else anymore.

Our family gets all of our spices from planters. They are always fresh and as far from overpriced as you can get. Todays trip to Planters, though, was for Fall garden seed. I purchased the smallest amount I could for each kind of seed and probably still have enough to last me for many years! I expect it will be as fresh as their spices, and like their spices, the cost was unbelievably low! We love Planters!

I could stay for hours in here getting ideas for my gardening. Occasionally you get to see a couple of cats that hang out in the store too. The staff is extremely helpful and if I call in before I come and tell them what I need, they will have it up front for me. Very helpful!

This place is basically Pierres from Stardew Valley except they dont sell your own stuff back to you.Everything here is fantastic.

A variety of things here from seeds for plants, veggies, grass and pots, soils, decorations and spices, etc. Nice variety. Even saw colorful metal chairs for outside. Hard to find parking spots anywhere near it for free. Was seeing $3 a lot of places. My first time going here and almost didn’t because we drove around 7 times trying to find a place to park not $3 because I knew I wouldn’t be in there long since I was just checking it out this trip. Will go back much later for grass seed.

You get a special free as soon as you walk through the door, lots of beautiful for your lawns and gardens. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Always enjoy going to Planters Seed.

Planters is a must see in Kansas City. They have the most wonderful spices that you instantly smell the moment you walk by. It is truly like walking in a Feild of fresh herbs. Walk past the spices straight to the loose leaf teas, and coffee grounds. Its wonderful. The peach tea is one of my absolute favorites. They also have anything and everything you may need for landscaping and gardening. I highly recommend this shop. Shopping local and getting to enjoy the wonderful aroma of fresh spices is 110% worth it.

Four store fronts with a great stock of gardening tools, seeds, greenhouse supplies, and plants in season. They also have bird houses, feeding supplies and yard art, as well as kitchen spices.

Ive been going to Planters for years whether I need anything or not. The old building is a treasure. I miss the kind, courteous, gentleman who worked there till very late in life.They have bulk spices, teas and coffees, and seeds by the packet or measure. Fun to look at all the pots, baskets, wind chimes and yard equipment. Id say definitely take your kids there while you can, so they can see how old stores operated.

LOVE this place! They have a wonderful selection of spices. They are always so helpful. Now that they are open on Sundays, it is possible for me to get there since it is a drive from Kansas. The spices are so much better than store bought. My husband is all about the red apple caramels. You should definitely check out this store.

Do you need seeds? This is the place to go. If it is something you can grow, they probably sell it. Mostly in seed form. They do have some started parts for transfers. Mostly seeds as the name implies. They also have a large selection of spices for any palate. Located near the infamous river Market plan your trip accordingly. The area can be very busy on the weekend.

I Love This Place. I cannot understand how any cook regardless of skill could pass up Planters Seed. They sell every spice you could possibly use, including many custom blends for so much less than anything you could buy in a jar.

I went in to buy fly swatters and a small bag of cactus mix potting soil. Excellent service, but they were out of fly swatters, and had sold there last 4 quart bag, so I ended up paying a decent price for more cactus potting mix than my wife will use while we live in Kansas, which could be six years or more. Almost every shop in Kansas City seems to be out of fly swatters right now, and cactus mix isnt available in the area I live in, so I left satisfied. Great little shop for eclectic city gardening, and the guy at the counter knew about their stocking situation, so I was in and out quickly.

Old school hardware store that sells seeds and spices. Parking is limited out front but plenty of spots located through out the river market area.

My friends cook with their spices all the time and its delicious. I bought some coffee beans, turtle sundae and snicker doodle. They are also delicious. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about what theyre saying and this place is great if you want to support local farm & business.

Planters Seed and Feed Store is an institution in the oldest part of Kansas City. Farmers still go there to buy seed, but locals and tourists alike love to wander the aisles, looking at unique concoctions of spices, ornamental yard art, specialty fertilizers, you name it. The original old woodwork, bins, & high ceilings add to the charm. Kansas City summers can get hot, but theres no air conditioning in this string of old rooms, attached with slanty floors and ramps. Watch your step! Workers are pleasant, down-to-earth, and know their stuff! Its a must stop-in place when youre at the city market.

This place is the best!! Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Everything lawn and garden and home you could ever want. incredible selection and quality of spices as well. Pick up some Malted Milk Balls, Sugar Plums or Caramel Popcorn around Christmas time.

Planters has been open for many decades. It has an eclectic stock of seeds,fresh spices, gardening supplies, bird supplies, etc. It is a lot of fun to just roam around on its wooden floors. It is located a half block away from the KansasCity market.

Planters has kept the look and feel of a century-old dry goods store. Bulk spices, bulk seeds, gardening and horticulture supplies, tools, bagged bulk soil amendments. I was looking for some grass seed to fill in a few spots around the yard and was quite impressed at the knowledge of the staff in recommending some seed types suitable for the climate. The prices on bulk garden seeds is second to none. Youd pay $4 for maybe 20 seeds at a big box store. $4 here will get you a hundred times as many seeds. Theres at least four or five types of nearly anything you could grow in a garden.

Visiting and shopping at Planters is like going back in time to the old fashioned hardware store with a focus on planting and spices too. Unbelievable selection and outstanding customer service!
