If youre a coffee drinker or aviation enthusiast, you need to visit The Roasterie. First and foremost, the coffee is delicious. Every blend Ive tried is perfect. I do think they over grind their auto-drip grounds, as they always clog our filter and water cant even make it to the pot. Minus 1 star for that because thats been our experience with several different bags. Its almost an expresso consistency. It is very cool to be able to look at the factory. Take a tour if you are able.

Fun to see the factory area--you can tour or simply look through the glass windows into the processing area. There is a store where you can buy bags of coffee, t-shirts and other souvenirs. And of course, the coffee and pastries are wonderful. Lots of indoor seating, as well as outdoors. There is a separate building for the drive thru!

Employees seem genuinely interested in being helpful, and actually provide great knowledge for those like me who are still relatively new to the coffee scene. Stay awesome, Roasterie. I went through the drive through and had my eye on the granola bar. I asked the drive through clerk if the granola bar contained coconut flakes . With a very rude disrespectful manner I got, “Ugh, I don’t know if it has coconut or not.” I asked her, “Can you please check if it has coconut flakes?” The response I received was, “Ugh, hold on!” At this point telling her to forget my order crossed my mind but I decided to give her another try. She came back to the speaker with her response of, “It doesn’t have coconut flakes so do you want it or not!?” Taking a deep breath I tell her yes I want it. Pulling up to the window I hand her my cash and she literally shoved my change at me through the drive through window with it flying all over me and my car! It took all I had not to go inside and talk to her manager, but I knew if I did with the mood she put me in would not be a good thing at all.I’m not sure what type of people are being hired there but as far as the drive through person goes she definitely does NOT belong there!

Local AppreciationIt always amazes me how many local businesses Kansas City has that offers wonderful products. The Roasterie features Air-Roasted Coffee made right here in the Show Me State. A tour at the 27th street location, offers insight into the history of this long time Kansas City favorite. It amazes me how those who go after their dreams, do so with gusto and determination. That’s what happened with Danny O’Neill in November 22,1978 when he picked his first coffee beans in Costa Rica as a foreign exchange student. You’ll learn the history that went into developing his coffee brand in his Brookside home years later. With his ongoing mission statement to choose the best beans, sourcing them from the local farmers who own and operate their own farms in thirty plus countries, you will see the process that goes into choosing and processing those green beans into air-roasted beans. The tour includes learning about the cupping process and later, sampling cold brew, nitro cold brew as well as how to make French press and drip method coffee.Overall: Although I’m not a coffee drinker, I enjoyed the history behind this Kansas City favorite, with the cool DC-3 aircraft that’s named after Danny’s mom, Betty. The Roasterie serves tea, my favorite, Wild Berry.

This establishment looks welcoming, friendly and inclusive. I moved to Kansas City from Utah after separating from the military. I visited the main Cafe ONCE and fell in love and had to ask if they were hiring. This is where everything goes bad.I was told by August and his manager that they were absolutely hiring and would love to set up an interview with me. I was given Kendalls email to send my resume to. I was then asked which location I would like to interview for, as The Roasterie, Messenger, Black Dog, and a couple others are all partnered together. They explicitly said that there were multiple positions at multiple locations that they needed filled. After a bit of playing the check-in email game (as Kendall and Jim seemed to never want to respond), I interviewed at the Brookside location. It wasnt inherently a bad interview, however the manager was NOT welcoming and seemed as if it was an inconvenience to interview me. I expressed to my boyfriend after how I felt extremely judged and made to feel uncomfortable.I then proceeded to interview with August at the main Roasterie Cafe location. I was met with someone who seemed overwhelmed, overworked, and burnt out. I was told they partnered with the other cafes to get through Covid. (this doesnt bother me. Covid was tough and I understand having to make changes to adapt, however it is very unprofessional to relay these details of the business to a possible new hire in my opinion). The overall interview seemed to have went perfect, August even invited my boyfriend and I to tag along on the tour that they run to see if I would enjoy being the guide. I was more than ecstatic the entire tour and after while talking to August and another employee.I never heard anything. I was completely left hanging by NUMEROUS managers and HR reps.I am hurt, angry and confused. On the outside this place looks as if it would be a beautiful work environment with so so much to learn and many ways to grow. The sheer amount of unprofessionalism and lack of communication is some of the worst ive seen in a workplace. I was passed around from cafe to cafe, had to basically BEG to get an answer over email, and was seemingly hired after the tour.At least my tour was free.
