Excellent service, and a consummate professional. I took my lower end guitars in for a full setup, and they now sound and feel like instruments easily double their list price. As an added bonus, you get to see some guitars in his shop youd be hard pressed to find other places. Seems like he always has some vintage restoration process going on in his shop.

Russ and North Coast Guitars are the absolute best. Earlier this week I was in a jam and needed a guitar set up, and Russ worked extraordinarily hard on very short notice to get the job done for me. Just here to post a positive review for a simple evaluation. Russ diagnosed a buzzing pre-amp wire (I thought it was fret buzz) and corrected it, for free, in moments. I appreciate an honest and skilled craftsman. My guitar is due for some fretwork soon and Ill be back.EDIT 3 Months later - the phrase setup or even crown and polish have always seemed to me a sort of magical or mature step in a guitarists evolution Dude, I cant explain it but you gotta get a setup. Its amazing. In my naivety, I never understood it and was always hesitant to try it for fear it would screw up my guitar or was the gateway drug to harder choices (might as well change out my saddle). Well, in my jamming and grooving, Id worn some nice looking grooves on my frets and it seemed that I finally needed to take the plunge. Russ did a great job restoring my frets, adjusting the rod, and setting up the guitar (still no idea what sort of devilish magic it is) and preserving my guitars sound (its a Taylor 714). It certainly seems that the sound is a little more balanced. Tuning is more even from the low E and up and even up the neck. Great job! If you are worried about if you need a setup or if you should get one, do it. Talk to Russ.

Russell refretted my 79 Fender strat I bought back in 1983 and replaced the nut. Its the nicest my guitar has ever played and sounded. Phenomenal job. Going forward, its all Russ for any work I need done on my guitars. World class; the real deal. Id give the dude 10 stars if I could.

Russ is an insanely personable guy, with a decidedly immense skill set. I took my guitar in to have a bone saddle, bone nut and rosewood pins custom fit. Needless to say, what a change in tonality. I recently bought a new Seagull S6 acoustic guitar (online). It arrived in great shape but the strings were way too high..hard to play. I took it in to North Coast Guitar for a setup and also requested to have a pickup installed. Russ called today that the job was done.. I picked it up and I cannot believe the difference. The action is perfect.. the pickup works great and its out of sight (end pin is now a jack).. I am VERY pleased with the way this turned out. I needed a new nut and some electronic work done on a Fender Jazzmaster. It was clear from our first conversation that he knew his stuff, his prices were fair, and could work with your turnaround time needs. I really appreciate his “mission” of making it your guitar - questions about setup etc were framed around what works for me, I’ve had other techs just kinda do what they think is best. The guitar is playing like a dream and all electronics issues are totally resolved.Only disappointment is with myself in that I didn’t insist on the set of strings that I wanted. The strings he keeps in stock are fine they’re just not what I prefer for this particular instrument (I’m picky about these things and have a different set that I prefer for each guitar I own). He was ordering an unusual rating of pots for me anyway and I’m sure he would have added a string request if I had asked - my suggestion would be offering the option to order whatever a customer wants and just add it on the bill. I would have happily paid amazon rate plus a couple of bucks if given the option, and I’m sure others would too. Maybe that’s a hassle for inventory reasons or whatever, in the end really not a big deal.North Coast will definitely be my first call next time I need help with a project, 100% satisfied with the work.

Russell did some excellent work on my classical guitars that went beyond my expectations. He patiently answers all of my questions and is easy to communicate with and gets the job done with a fast turn over time. He also handled the whole transaction very professionally with all the necessary documentation. Definitely a much better idea to bring your guitar to him than to one of those big box guitar stores.

Had to have a quick re-soldered of one wire in my bass while on the road. Stopped by they did the work quickly while we waited. It was a bit expensive for soldering one wire though $45.

I can not say enough how great Russ, he is very knowledgeable and skilled. He takes great care to listen to the customers needs and concerns. I am very happy to have found North coast and will not take my guitars anywhere else.

Imagine a 1980 maple dreadnought (Ventura V-29) with a slightly bowed top throwing off the intonation. The saddle is an adjustable height metal design with a large slot in the bridge (poor design and junk). Russell carved a new bone saddle that fits the oversize slot and moved the string contact point rearward enough to fix the intonation (dead on) and provide great action/string height. If you are a guitarist or engineer you can appreciate the difficulty in finding the perfect contact point in the saddle to do this. New life for a vintage guitar. Five stars - Russel knows his stuff.

I received SIX star service at North Coast... Ive had my Martin Acoustic set up several times since I bought it, but after getting it setup at North Coast it plays like a dream. Russ--the owner/operator--also gave me some great advice that I can use to keep it humming. If youre anywhere in West Michigan, go to North Coast for your guitar service. Just a note about the location--188 Wealthy Street SE has multiple entrances, his shop is the red brick part of the building facing Wealthy. It took me a minute to figure that out once I got there.

Great job on my fender bass, i took it to Pete at rainbow music for a set up ,did not check it out ,because i heard he was the best around ,got the bass home and he had just raised the strings up higher ,it was harder to play ,so i bought some new pickup and had north coast guitar install them and do a full set up on my fender classic vibe bass ,after i got the bass back i tried it out with my band and it sounded great ,i had just bought a new fender p bass made in the u s a and i am also going to bring that bass in for a set up ,i have to say that my classic vibe p bass sounds as good now as my made in the u s a p bass i just got
