I called them at 7:57pm and asked if they had live bait. She said yes and named a few of them. I informed her I was 24 mins away according to my GPS and I was coming from San Luis pass. She said ok they were opened until 9pm. When I arrived it appeared closed. I called and she answered the phone. I informed her I was outside and that I had just called about the live bait. She said they closed early and giggled. I told her I had driven from San Luis pass and that was not funny. She was very unprofessional. She referred me to Smittys...good referral. Ill be going there from now on.

Wheres the old staff. Guy made me a buy a bucket in order to move my bait from the tanks to my live well. My bucket blew out coming there from the Woodlands. I purchased the bucket and went back inside and said Im leaving this for the next person who forgot. Ive been in there a 150 times

Best bait and tackle shop on the island. And, the best part, theyre expanding their store this year so theyll have even more stuff. Friendly staff, nice bait, great tackle selection. I try to always leave a tip for the counter person.

What can I say besides Michael was incredible!!! He went above and beyond to help get the fishing pole ready. Had a fishing box full of lures(didn’t know I needed anything else) he explained what was needed and sold me the right thing. It was so remarkable how much enthusiasm he had in helping. As a manager of a large retail company I do not see that in many young people. To the owners of Bayou... great choice in your staff. Mason was just as helpful with the other customers coming in. Thank you for making our fishing trip successful!!

There was a big purple sign by the front door that only 5 people in at a time. if theyre going to keep it up they need to enforce it. My husband tried twice to get in and was told to get out. As 2 other people walked in right behind him. Sorry but not super impressed.

You have a sign say where your mask and both employees have no mask on! Lol! Not friendly at all! Did not even speak! Never again! Im good to not notice them even being there!

I stopped in yesterday to buy live bait. I was trying to get a little info on the local fishing because Im from out of town. The young bait boy was very rude and didnt want to help or even get my live shrimp. After going through the hassle of trying to get help he said that he only took cash no debit or credit cards. I finally just gave up and left. If I could give 0 stars ...I would but on the other hand..I went right around the corner to Aunt Margies..was treated great...got everything I needed...and saved a chunk of change...

One of only two bait shops worth supporting. Normally a great live selection as well as whole cut bait. They have a plethora of gear and tackle and just about anything you need to get your line wet. Open pretty late and they know their stuff about the area

If I could I would give a no star rating. I understand, as well as everyone else, that the times we live in right now are tough. But I was treated unfairly by the female cashier. Their is a sign saying that only 5 people are allowed in the store at a time. When I got their their where already 7 people in the store. My buddy walked in with no problem but as soon as I waited for one person to leave to enter but kept getting stopped by this one annoying cashier. Like I said I understand the times we are in but if you are going to be like that with one person please treat all others that same way. Because when I was waiting in like to pay I counted and their where at least 8 people. SO TO THE CASHIER IS YOU ARE READING THIS TREAT ALLLLLLLL CUSTOMERS THE SAME. I will not ever be going back to this bait and tackle shop based on that experience and mistreatment.

I like it there. The shrimp we got was small died with in 20 min after purchasing. But other times the do good.

Good people - always friendly and helpful. Front steps may be an issue for some. It might be easier to get off the previous exit because the store is right after the exit and it can be hard to get over if theres traffic.

This is always my first stop when I go to Galveston. Always have what Im looking for. Get in get out.

Has a nice assortment of all bait and tackle. Usually use Smittys but closed for remodel checked this place out has more gear then Smittys use to have. We will see what the new Smittys has to offer soon.

Prices aren’t too bad, but customer service was wack, dudes looked like they hated their job, not much friendly.

Bayou is my go to. Always have fresh dead shad and mullet plus shrimp never frozen junk baits. Plus a good live bait setups.

Its my favorite bait shop around. The shrimp are really huge and I dont recall finding any dead ones ever. Theyre always alive and JUMPING. They have a good selection of tackle and the staff is friendly. Its a very convenient location because its right off 45 on he same exit for the state park. I would highly recommend this shop for live shrimp.

Liked this place a lot. I know a couple of things about fly fishing for trout but nothing about saltwater. The guy at this place spent a lot of time getting me started.

They seem expensive to me but I think they have the best dead selection around. They are usually the only shop to have shad (less than 2 days old). The live bait is decent. They are open earlier and on more days than Smittys

I went there when they were changing shifts want to get some tackle for my rod it took a long time a little bit long for them to change shifts so I went somewhere else to get my bait and stuff but what I do I left my rod the people that was there with me they left too they say man you left your rod so I went back it was still there they had it waiting for me good folks I just didnt want to keep waiting

Just stopped at Bayou Bait & Tackle off the 71st exit to get a quart of live. Second weekend in a row theyve given me tiny shrimp. Both times I paid for it anyway, because Ive been coming here faithfully since the 90s. Dude asked me if I got everything and I said yes, but mentioned that the shrimp were really small. He says, Well thats what we have....and added if you dont like it, you can go to one of these other bait shops... Yeah buddy. And thats just how you lose customers.

I was very disappointed with the lack of customer service here. These people are not friendly or helpful. We came in for live shrimp and they were sold out. They didnt tell us in person that they were expecting a shipment within 5-10 minutes. We wasted time running around the area when they could have told us that from the beginning. I get the feeling these people are racists. They said it was $18 per quart of live shrimp but they threw the shrimp in our bucket without measuring the weight. Im wondering how they were guessing the weight of a quart. 🤔 From looking at the response on Google from the owner you can tell hes a complete A**hole.
