Came I here a few times in the past never had an issue, but on my recent visit me and my two sisters , were constantly followed , like every three minutes there would be a young boy , checking on us , not even once asking if we need help, just making us feel very uncomfortable, even though we spent around $200 dollars, other than that they have many items , and there prices are okay

I have been shopping here for years and it’s been great because of the prices and products. Kelly Nail Supply ONLY SELLS TO PROFESSIONALS WITH A LICENSE. Keep that in mind because I want to write a review for what I just witnessed. A group of three women wanting to buy nail products. When asked if they had a license they said no. Then the owner explained to them that they cannot shop here because they only sell products to licensed professionals in the beauty/cosmetology industry. They proceed to argue saying that they have shopped here before and that they in a sense have a right to. Any business can refuse to sell unless they’re targeting a protected class I.e. sex, race, religion etc. like gas stations and shops have the right to refuse service to those that don’t have shirts or shoes. How Costco can refuse to sell to you unless you have a membership. Kelly Nail Supply is a smaller business but a business nonetheless, that has the same rights. You have the freedom to buy whatever your heart desires as long as you have a professional cosmetology license. Don’t try to take advantage of them because they seem to not know English well. They know enough to run a business for many years.

This is a good place to go for supply’s the man who owns it is very nice, he speaks English well and is kind and knowledgeable.. I don’t care much for the older man who runs the front desk sometimes because he’s a little short and not very good at customer service but overall you can find great supplies and it’s a very nice store.

I’ve shopped at this store 3 times. Twice, I went in with my mother and had a great experience. On the third trip, I came with a friend who is African American. On that third visit I was followed around for the first 15 minutes, before someone asked for my nail license and told me they only sold to people with professional licenses. The woman following us around said there were signs everywhere we should have seen. She also said it’s on their website and widely known information. The sign on the door, was not visible when walking in (or at all- because the door was propped open) and their website has been shut down and non operational for at least 2 years. When I explained that I had no idea and had shopped here twice before, the woman demanded proof and asked why I didn’t have a receipt to prove that. Essentially implying I was lying. Why would I drive myself to a store with the best intentions of making a purchase, if I knew they only sold to professionals and was attempting to fraudulently purchase from them? Also who walks around with months old receipts? That practice would be fair if they hadn’t sold to me twice before. There are plenty of distributors who exclusively sell to industry professionals. However, I suspect the issue was not that I wasn’t a professional nail tech, but was in fact that I didn’t look the part of a nail tech. It’s clear there were no issues with myself and my mother (both white) and the only issues arose when I came in with someone who was African American. It was assumed that I don’t have a nail license, because I was asked while looking around, not at the register and not at the time of purchase. At the end I said “that’s fine, I don’t need to spend my money here. I can go on amazon or purchase from Sally’s”, in which case the woman running the store said “that’s a good idea, they’re better for your type anyways”. Additionally, there’s absolutely NO statement saying this is exclusively for professionals on google or Groupon (like the owner claims there is in his responses to negative reviews on here). It’s ironic that in a response to another negative review the owner claims they “have these policies and can never make any exceptions”. They obviously made an exception for me twice and only had an issue when I came into the shop with someone black. Racial profiling aside, I went to file a complaint online when I left the shop, only to realize their Florida business license with sunbiz was not easily discoverable. I was refused a business card or contact information for the owner at the time of the issue and was not given their license number. If I am a licensed professional, I’d reconsider shopping there in light of their illegal and racist business practices.

VERY disappointed! My first visit here and Ill be purchasing from Premiere Nail Source and DHGate for all my nail supplies from now on. The man behind the counter was the most rude and unwelcoming individual. Complete racism for anybody who isnt vietnamese/Asian. Prices are ridiculous! $15 for a French tip cutter? Its $3 online from Tampa. And the man and woman behind the counter continued speaking about us the entire time while looking at us and in vietnamese! Too freaking far to drive for all this negativity. Shop online and control how consumers get treated

In response to the owner’s daughter’s reply to my original review (since I’m not able to reply to a response OR add to my original review):Kelly Nail Supply, Inc. clearly you’re confused or trying to save face, especially since as you mentioned you WEREN’T there. I find it hard to believe you’d have such a detailed narrative and full conversations from security footage, which often doesn’t even have sound. Especially since your reply to my review came within an hour or my leaving the shop. You must have gotten there and reviewed the video footage immediately after we left. No one opened a bottle of nail polish. whatever dialogue you’re referencing is completely fabricated, Not a soul spoke to me or my African American friend, who is an attorney and will be following up with a formal OEO complaint, and the conversation regarding a professional license was with my mother not myself, so again, this imaginary conversation you’re illustrating clearly did not happen. What DID happen was a conversation with all three of us, including SEVERAL of your employees (one of which was a young man who very clearly understood the situation and our concerns). Receipts were 100% requested of us, from who I assume is your mother, as proof that we’d purchased from you before, despite the discriminatory policy enforced on a whim. As other reviews have suggested, this is not the first time your establishment has racially profiled potential customers and has disregarded the policy. In terms of your frivolous “defamation and libel” statements, I merely said “I could not easily find their license”, I did not state it as fact. Slander and libel are very serious legal accusations to throw around so carelessly, accusations you’re obviously very reckless about using. Firstly, a situation CAN NOT be both slanderous and libelous, it’s one of the other. Secondly, in order to qualify as slander or libel, my statement have to be lies. Everything I stated is based on my experience, which you’ve mentioned you have well documented on video. There were 10-15 people in the store and the only three asked to present proof they should be allowed to shop there were the ones who do not share the same ethnicity as you. And furthermore, you’ve fabricated entire conversations based on mysterious video footage from an event that happened when you were not present. You are more than welcome to refuse service based on your policy, but your policy has an insidious discriminatory affect. Additionally, as you can see on your “video footage”, there were at least 10 other customers in the store who were never asked WHILE shopping to show proof of licensure. Only requesting proof of licensure from specific people, but not others means you’re clearly basing your judgement on people by how they look. There was a reason we were targeted, and it’s not because of your false narrative that we opened a bottle of polish. IF the concern was truthfully that we opened polish or otherwise could have damaged merchandise (which did NOT HAPPEN) the appropriate conversation to have would be to ask us not to do that or point out the problem, NOT to automatically assume we must not be nail technicians and therefore you should be requesting proof of our licenses. This is clearly some excuse you’ve made up to justify discriminating against us. Furthermore, we stayed and watched a complete transaction, where neither the lady nor the man behind the counter, requested proof of licensure nor was proof volunteered by the purchasing customer, exhibiting a pattern of assuming people who don’t look a certain way are not licensed professionals. It’s racist and discriminatory. What was unappreciated was the racial profiling.

Will not be coming here or recommending this place at all!! I’m a student with proof of enrollment signed paperwork from the school wanted to come and purchase a brush but because I don’t have a school id yet because orientation isn’t until the 17th of September and classes start the 23rd I was denied service even though I have proof that I’m enrolled in school for skin and nails but haven’t started yet!! Didn’t have this problem at Cosmoprof and this is one reason why we purchase online because of terrible service if a person has proof they are enrolled in classes service shouldn’t be denied bcuz of not having a id yet when paperwork clearly states that I’m enrolled and won’t recieve id until orientation!!!
