We had a wonderful breakfast at Exeter Whistle Stop! We stumbled upon this place while traveling through the area. We were greeted as we walked in the door and invited to have a seat. The owner was so kind and friendly, treating us like family. The food was delicious, and the town is clean and so beautiful with all the murals. We would love to be able to go back again one day!
Honestly, this is my favorite breakfast restaurant in the world! Where else can you go and they actually ask you how you would like your bacon cooked!!! The food is just so good! Helpful tip: go earlier in the morning and get some of the seating outside. Fantastic!

This is the place! Our waitress, though all alone due to a no-show colleague, managed to serve a full house, making each customer feel like a best friend. The menu is excellent. hearty. diner breakfast food served in large portions.
Quaint little breakfast and lunch diner near historic downtown Exeter serving generous portions! Everything served here is homemade. Our order, along with every order we saw brought out to other diners were huge! Pancakes the size of a large platter but still delicious. I ordered diced ham with scrambled eggs and they mustve used 6 eggs (not powered!) to make it! Im a big eater and was hungry that day and I STILL struggled to finish it all! Careful if you order the biscuits n gravy, that alone is enough to satisfy most breakfast appetites.They are very busy so be patient, its well worth the wait. We went mid morning on a weekday and they were STILL busy!Be sure and ask your server to turn on the train that runs on the tracks overhead while youre there to complete your visit.They are NOT open for dinner so youve gotta make it a breakfast or lunch visit but you can do that 7 days a week.
Didnt get to try the food because they were experiencing issues in the kitchen, but despite that their hostess/waitress was doing an amazing job of handling all of the tables inside and outside the Whistle Stop.Then when the shop owner came to take our order she had a lot of attention to detail, which side of the hash you want crispy, and etc.The menu looked really good, would like to try it out another day.Owner also let us go without paying for drinks after the issue in the kitchen, appreciated the gesture.

Very fresh and delicious food. The whistle stop is a small. Like a very small diner. But is the line worth the wait? DEFINITELY! Everything is made from scratch, From the biscuits to the Chicken fried steaks! Its nothing like youve ever tasted, I say that because every other diner within tulare county either makes there stuff from a can or from a freezer! Whistle Stop is all fresh ingredients and from scratch! Give it a try when ever youre in town. You will not be disappointed.
First time I have been here and the food was great. The staff was very friendly and was great with every customer.
This was such a cute place. We had a wonderful cobb salad, the bacon was very thick and crispy, the produce was fresh as could be, and they had no problem with a cheese substitution. The menu had a lot of variety. I cant wait to go back again.

Place is always off the hook busy but if you eat here you’ll know why, a must every time I’m down to see my family in Exeter, everything is great and the biscuits and gravy is one of the best you’ll find. Staff will go out of their way to treat you like your the only one there.

Every time we visit my husbands hometown we must have breakfast at the Exeter Whistle Stop! The owner is always so welcoming and even remembered my favorite dish, the blueberry pancakes! I dont know what they do to their blueberry pancakes, but they are my favorite in the world! Must try! My son loves to watch the train as it zooms overhead.My son devoured the chicken tenders, and I ended up eating some because they were so good! Im also picky about bacon, but they do it right here; nice and crispy all the way through.Great for kids eith exceptionally friendly and fast service! Best breakfast in Exeter and the Central Valley! We couldnt love this place more!

I dont even know where to start we walked in and not one person was wearing a mask, not even the cook we asked for takeout and she wanted us to sit first off the place is small and it was full as we walked in the whole diner stopped talking and started talking about us and a man looked us up and down and shook his head.I am so disgusted with this shop and customers also this place is roach infested. Just to clarify me and my sister are people of color and everyone in the diner was white.

I was disappointed when I didn’t see eggs benedict on the menu and thought I would just settle for an omlette. I got the railroad with sausage, cheese, green pepper, and onions. It also came with hash browns and a biscuit with gravy on the side and it was A LOT of food! After I took that first bite in the omlette, I was not disappointed anymore. Usually, I feel that omlettes are bland and that’s why I never usually get them, but this one was super fluffy, flavorful, cheesy and delicious! I was really surprised and knew that I need to give omlettes a chance again. The hash browns are really good as well and were cooked so it was crispy on the outside and potato-y on the inside. I didn’t eat the biscuit as it was too much food, but the gravey – OMG – SO GOOD! I ate it on top of my hash browns and couldn’t stop eating even after I was full.Overall, this place reminded me of why I love breakfast. They make everything in house and it’s amazing. Best of all, you get a ton of food at a great price and the service is very homey and great!

Its a nice, quaint little restaurant. The owner is very friendly and treats you like family, the food gets served quickly and tastes delicious, and there is a cute railcar theme going on inside and out. The chicken fried steak I ordered was yummy and filling and cooked to perfection! If Im ever in this town again and need a nice hot meal to eat, this place would be my first choice.

Love this place! Best club sandwich Ive ever had and amazing customer service from the waitresses. I love that they ask how you like your bacon and how hard to scramble your eggs. Only downside is that they arent open long enough and they can get packed so the wait can be a little long.

My favorite place to eat in Exeter! The breakfast bowl is my favorite, but everything is great! When you go into the Whistle Stop, its like going to a friends house. Everyone is beyond friendly, it has that small town feel. The amazing food, great service and atmosphere keep me coming back!!! The fact that it looks like a train and has a train running at the ceiling is great, they always turn the train on for the kids. Sherry, the owner, takes great pride in running the cafe. I love when she sits with us and chats. Like I said, this is small town charm at its best!!!

Excellent service family feel
The place is very quaint, quite a small restaurant. The waiting area is literally in the entrance with one two seater to accommodate waiting patrons. It has a counter for diners preferring not to wait for a booth. Definitely need more waiters/waitresses. The busboy is doing double duty, serving up coffee, etc. while the single waitress is waiting on tables and cashier duty while patrons are waiting to put in orders. The food is good and plentiful but quite pricey.
This place was super cute ! We came from out of town so it was nice to get breakfast at a local place. The theme inside was cute. I got the California omlette I believe it was called and it was good ! Only downfall was that they gave me like 3 slices of avocado. The biscuit and gravy was huge here and it had good flavor. My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak and he liked it.

First time I went was last friday and I am kicking myself for not trying them sooner! Fish and chips is on special on Fridays and you can have all fish or half fish and half shrimp for the same price. I chose the half and half basket and the fish was great with the shrimp exceeded my expectations! They were HUGE and fat and perfect! Thank you Whistle Stop!
The lady who owns this little spot is so sweet and endearing, bringing the whimsy from when she worked at Disneyland into her little dinner here. You can tell she loves her comfort food as you have the option to double crisp up your hash browns and still have the additional option to have the most delicious homemade biscuits and gravy! Would recommend!

Went for breakfast. Staff was friendly & efficient. Food came out hot and delicious. Hubby ordered Chicken fried steak yum. I had a small salad. Delicious. Even tho it was a small salad, it was large enough to fill me up.

Yeah, no. Burger was a frozen patty. Fries were a bag of frozen fries. The final straw was a roach that crawled across the wall onto the table where we were eating. One extra star awarded because the server told me we didn’t have to pay for the meal. Truth be told I wasn’t going to anyway. Disappointing.

Cute, kitschy and awesome. Food was good, try the biscuit for a delicious, crusty, fluffy treat. Cheryl, the lady who owns the place, just makes you smile with her enthusiasm and obvious care for what she does. Definitely, worth the detour (we stopped by on our way home from Sequoia National Park).

Always Great Food, Good Service, and reasonable pricing. You get what you pay for. I recommend showing up between 10am and 11am to avoid the busier times.
