I went to Moonlight Motors to get a second opinion on a car issue I’ve been having. When I arrived the front desk staff was very welcoming, nice, and communicative about what to expect price-wise for a diagnostic and wait time. The wait was a little long, but as it turns out my car had more problems than expected. They broke the news to me gently that my engine would need to be replaced. But instead of pushing me to get it fixed, they gave me other options and suggestions about next steps for my car. I was really appreciative of how nice and informative they were when talking about my car! Will definitely be coming back for future car needs! Would recommend to a friend as well. My wife broke down near moonlight motors while out of state. The AAA driver said it was the alternator and we found moonlight motors would be able to look at the car. We were all set to pay for a costly repair to get her back on her way and they diagnosed and repaired the vehicle sooner than they told us to expect. They found a loose connection and fixed that for a fraction of what we expected to pay and got her back on the road. Super honest and super kind. Thank you!

Marty was terrific. He responded to my after hours message as soon as he got into the shop. He explained why I did not need to pay extra for synthetic oil. Since I was from out of town he found a coupon to lower the price to match what I pay in the Bay Area. And they did my oil change and replaced my burned out bulb asap so I could get back to vacationing. I just wish I lived nearby so I could give him more business.

What an amazing experience! Marty not only took great care of my car and was very strait forward with what was needed, he went above and beyond! First, my check engine light was on and they didnt find any reason why, so he called the dealer himself and was able to diagnose the problem. Then, my tire key was missing and he took it upon himself to drive to the tire store where they had replaced my tires to find it, which of course was literally a needle in a haystack, so he chose to go directly to the dealer to find the master key and purchased new bolts so I dont have to worry about it again in the future. All on his own time! Thank you Marty for making my car safe again!! We really had a lot of hoops to jump through, but Marty made it easy.

I want to highly recommend Moonlight Motors. They were quick, professional, and provided pictures and explanations of all the things needed for my 14yr old Infiniti FX35. They were able to complete the work in less than 2 days time. They even stayed open about 30 minutes later than normal so I could pick it up on a Saturday. Ive only had it back for a week, but so far everything is running very smoothly and Ive very excited to have it running great!

The salt of the earth AAA driver said next time take it to Moonlight Motors, I have been to several shops with my four vehicles over the past dozen years. Something was just missing from most of the those previous experiences. Like the sense of trust that can only develop when it is genuine.I have developed a genuine trust in Moonlight Motors. My father used to work on the family cars and he passed on to me the ability to do many of the basic maintenance procedures but with todays cars it rapidly becomes impossible to get very deeply into maintenance without computerized analysis and specialized tools. For that reason I am pleased that I have found Moonlight not only because they are factory trained in every vehicle type that I have thrown at them including foreign and domestic cars but also because they do things right without breaking the bank.It is good advice to find a good mechanic that you can trust. I had frozen lug nuts that prevented me from doing my own tire rotation. I usually do that every oil change. The guys at Moonlight Motors helped me make an appointment and resolved the problem the same day.I used to go to Toyota Carlsbad but they botched too many jobs on my car so I refuse to go back to that dealer. Another great experience with Moonlight Motors where an engine light came on so I scheduled an appointment to have it checked out. (The light didn’t stay on but I wanted it checked out) They spent an hour doing diagnostics and couldn’t find any issues so they let me go and didn’t charge me for their time.Thank you!

Our first experience with Moonlight Motors was this past spring when we took a trip to Mexico (14 hours drive) and had car trouble. Our friends and their families have been going to Moonlight for 15 years and now I know why. They called Adam numerous times to try to diagnose why the SUV would only start intermittently. We finally figured out that rats had eaten part of the wiring harness and it was shorting out (funny how no issues on the way down? Go figure.).So we worked with a local shop to get it patched up for the long ride home and it made it flawlessly (Im talking about an older SUV with over 250k miles on it that is maintained at Moonlight).When I say we were on the phone with Adam interrupting his workday I mean like 10 times with no issues just thoughtful help.When we got back they diagnosed the portion of the harness and got it fixed by the insurance company. We now take all 5 of our cars to Moonlight Motors for great service.I can’t thank the team from Moonlight Motors enough for the attention to detail and caring nature of their organization. Adam is great. Marty is great. The front office staff are first class (I only know some of their names) and the technicians are perfect.They prepared my son’s older Tacoma for our drive back to CO for school like they were doing it for their own kid. It ran flawlessly and I know I can always call the shop for advice. We love this place.I also love the handwritten thank you cards you get after some of the service work along with the little box of candy they put in your console sometimes. You just don’t see an organization that is this thoughtful and consistently competent and caring about the service they provide to us. Thank you Moonlight!

The people at Moonlight are awesome! Heres why...I took my SUV in for an oil change, which they had done previously on this vehicle and my truck for several years prior, without any problem. This time, the day after I had the oil changed, it leaked out a good bit at my storage facility, but I was busy unloading stuff and didnt notice. The next morning I go back to the storage unit and the guy at the front desk says he was about to call to notify me that my vehicle had leaked a good bit of oil in the parking lot. I was surprised and concerned so I went straight to my vehicle and checked the dipstick; there was one drop of oil on the very end. Pretty much all the oil had leaked out and I couldnt start the vehicle without fear of seizing up the engine. Of course the first assumption is to blame the guys that did the oil change. The age old thought process of you had it last, you broke it But since Id never had an issue with their work, I did my best to quell that thought and called them for help. They were very understanding of my situation and went so far to help figure it out that they sent a mechanic to my storage unit to make sure it wasnt something that happened during the oil change. He checked the filter and drain plug, both were dry, so they determined it wasnt anything they had worked on that caused the leak. That by itself was pretty awesome...then they called a tow truck for me. Tow truck came and picked up me and my SUV and took us over to Moonlight Motors. On the way there, Im talking to the driver and he said hes never had to take a vehicle back there to fix a mistake. He shared horror stories of several other places, but not one had ever come back to Moonlight Motors...NONE. I left the SUV with them to diagnose the problem. A short time later they called and told me what the issue was: a design flaw by the manufacturer! It required an upgraded part that they had to order and they completed the repair the following Monday. Oh! Did I forget to mention this is a Saturday on Easter weekend?? Yes, they went that far above and beyond on a holiday weekend. And if that doesnt convince you...they knew I was driving the SUV cross country to GA in the following few days; so about a week after they had replaced the defective part, they called me to make sure the SUV and I got to GA alright. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? They were so kind and patient with me, even at one of the most anxious moments of the trip; and then they called to check that the SUV and I made it safely and without incident. How cool was that? I simply cant thank or praise them enough for the excellent work done by great people. The whole experience couldve gone very differently if I wasnt lucky enough to get referred here from by friend here in Encinitas.

What I like about Moonlight and the people that work there is that it has a family feel. I enjoy the relationship that Ive developed with the staff and feel as they treat me with kindness and respect. When it comes to the automotive work done, I feel that everything is extremely well communicated and that theyre willing to work with me on the best possible solutions based on our particular circumstances. The new system of receiving detailed information via e mail about the inspections, complete with pictures allows me to look at what is going on and not feel like Im being taken. I took my car to this shop and they keep it for 5 days didn’t even repair it and they still charged me 200 hundred bucks.I wasted time and money in a reparation that never happened and the manager screamed at me for asking what was being done to my car.This place sucks!.

Had such a wonderful experience taking my 2003 Honda Accord to Moonlight Motors. It was my first visit, so I was expecting to receive a laundry list of things that need immediate attention. However, after a fairly quick oil change and evaluation I got a text that linked to recommendations including descriptions and pictures of what may need fixing/maintenance in the future. What a great resource. I also spoke with Adam who gave me honest feedback on when my next maintenance visit should be. Even sent me off with a cute little package of mints to keep in my car. Will definitely be back.

As usual, Adam and the Moonlight Motors team promptly completed the required coolant system repairs (new hoses, replaced broken thermostat housing, new coolant) to my wifes 2011 Mini Clubman S. No up-selling, no surprises, just what was diagnosed initially as needing repair/replacement at the estimated price upfront and ahead of schedule 1-day early). We will continue to use Moonlight Motors to keep our familys three cars in tip-top condition, and I would (and do) recommend them to my family and friends.

Having car problems completely suck. But having Moonlight work on my car made it all bearable. Marty was incredibly nice (they all were, but I dealt with him the most) and went above and beyond to get me through having my car die. My husband took his SUV in one morning last week for what he thought was a necessary brake replacement (BTW, weve been using MM for our service needs for 4 or 5 different cars over ~10 years). Marty, the owner, called him mid-day and said the brakes were fine, no need! Despite all the boat towing, desert driving and HWY 5 commuting over last year. What an awesome surprise! These guys are SUPER honest and thats why weve been using them for so long. This Place literally sucks, dont waist your MONEY and your TIME. I bring my VW and they never repair my car, I never received a phone call to authorize reparations, and more important I never gave my authorization to drive my car outside of this business. BE CAREFUL with this place.

As someone who runs his own business, I was so so impressed with Moonlight Motors! They are hard working, honest, super friendly and easy to work with. It is clear they care about their customers even more than making a $. I brought my truck in because I thought I was experiencing a similar pattern I had previously ignored, which resulted in me needing to replace my rotors and break pads. I worn the rotors so far down, they couldnt be machined and had to be replaced. So, after seeing a similar pattern and hearing what I thought was grinding, I took my truck in expecting to hear how much was wrong with it and what I would owe them...They test drove it, took the brakes apart and couldnt find an issue. They noticed my brake fluid was low and so they topped it off for me and did not charge me ANYTHING for all of that! That was not what I expected at all, given my experience with mechanics around here! I am so happy to say I have found my new and permanent auto shop!!! Thanks guys!

Definitely I do not recommend this place. I wasted my time for days and nobody was working in my car reparation. I have serious doubts with this local service. I payed for a reparations that they never do. This place sucks!! Don’t wast your time and money in this place.

Marty...I sent an email from your website also. I was charged $149 for a service that I never requested. At no time did anyone from Moonlight Motors ask me if I wanted a full diagnostic on my car. I told Adam that the engine was missing when idling and nothing more. When I purchased the car a year ago I had a full diagnostic on my car from Moonlight Motors so why would I want another one that was going to tell me the same thing.I am very disappointed and would appreciate a full refund.Henry Friedman

If you are in SD County and taking a car elsewhere for service, you are doing it wrong. Much faster turnaround time than taking my car to the dealer, even counting the longer drive door to door. There have been multiple occasions over the years where my wife or I have taken a car in to get looked at and we have either not been charged or charged something nominal (say $10 or $20) when no intervention was needed, or a minor computer reset was the issue. There is also a lot of nice stuff to do within walking distance of the shop if you want to wait while getting service.

I greatly appreciate Adam for the explanation and time he gave me for my quote and services. My car seems to be driving well and the price for the services were pretty much exactly what I was quoted. Also, the receptionist was very friendly and nice!

Got to speak with Adam and he was extremely helpful in figuring out what work absolutely NEEDED get done and survive the 1000 mile drive back to Colorado without my truck blowing up. Originally I was quoted anywhere from $1000 to $3000 and was about to take my truck to another shop but he worked with me and brought it to a reasonable price and I made it to Colorado safely!

After my warranty expired, I began bringing my truck to Moonlight. My girlfriend and her family have been coming to Moonlight for years and wouldnt take their cars anywhere else.They run a diagnostics, it prioritizes what your vehicle needs now or what you can wait on. Whatever you can afford or want to do, theres no pressure. Going to Moonlight feels like taking my truck to family.

Had some damage to front corner of my car. Moonlight motors fixed it and charged me less than $50 for bodywork.I cant remember paying such a reasonable price in my 50 years of driving.

We took our jeep there based on reviews from others, so I felt it fair to leave one myself. I was skeptical as you would be taking your car some place for the first time. The car didnt get fixed properly the first time but I believe that may have been due to an oversight by our dealer. Anyway, we took it back and eventually it was fixed properly. I do appreciate their honesty and that they stand behind their work and will try again if the first time it doesnt get done. We will go back again.

While it is not a rock bottom cheap operation, it is, more importantly, an excellent value for the money.
